and_o abominable_a carriage_n these_o sinful_a wretch_n be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v excuse_v by_o be_v at_o religious_a exercise_n that_o they_o be_v much_o to_o be_v condemn_v for_o that_o in_o the_o land_n of_o righteousness_n as_o the_o prophet_n speak_v they_o work_v wickedness_n and_o in_o the_o place_n where_o they_o shall_v show_v all_o manner_n of_o holiness_n they_o express_v such_o notable_a profaneness_n these_o be_v even_o like_o judas_n who_o be_v plot_v to_o betray_v his_o master_n even_o then_o when_o he_o be_v at_o the_o lord_n table_n to_o be_v partaker_n of_o the_o holy_a sacrament_n and_o they_o shall_v speed_v even_o as_o he_o do_v for_o when_o affliction_n and_o misery_n seize_v upon_o they_o as_o come_v it_o will_v soon_o or_o late_a if_o they_o prevent_v it_o not_o by_o hearty_a repentance_n then_o shall_v they_o not_o be_v able_a to_o stand_v before_o the_o lord_n nor_o before_o the_o face_n of_o their_o accuse_a conscience_n but_o shall_v be_v overwhelm_v with_o horror_n and_o amazement_n and_o be_v moreready_o to_o lay_v violent_a hand_n on_o themselves_o then_o to_o seek_v unto_o the_o lord_n for_o mercy_n who_o they_o have_v so_o hainouslie_o and_o presumptuous_o offend_v second_o let_v we_o hence_o learn_v to_o be_v the_o same_o alone_a for_o matter_n of_o godliness_n as_o we_o be_v in_o company_n and_o to_o do_v duty_n when_o no_o body_n see_v we_o even_o because_o god_n behold_v we_o as_o well_o as_o when_o many_o eye_n be_v cast_v upon_o us._n this_o will_v be_v a_o testimony_n unto_o our_o soul_n of_o great_a sincerity_n and_o uprightness_n and_o these_o private_a exercise_n of_o religion_n will_v marvellous_o fit_v we_o for_o the_o public_a and_o thence_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o many_o be_v so_o loath_a to_o appear_v before_o god_n in_o the_o congregation_n or_o in_o the_o family_n and_o do_v feel_v the_o service_n of_o god_n so_o tedious_a and_o wearisome_a because_o their_o heart_n have_v not_o be_v exercise_v therewith_o in_o secret_a for_o he_o that_o deal_v with_o his_o own_o soul_n alone_o shall_v find_v so_o many_o defect_n in_o himself_o that_o he_o will_v be_v very_o desirous_a constant_o perform_v these_o and_o the_o like_a duty_n in_o secret_a and_o then_o shall_v it_o be_v plain_a unto_o our_o soul_n that_o we_o be_v guide_v by_o god_n good_a spirit_n and_o howsoever_o preach_v object_n 1_o yet_o will_n some_o say_v they_o pray_v very_o much_o what_o of_o that_o answ_n do_v they_o imagine_v to_o have_v any_o benesit_fw-la by_o their_o prayer_n if_o they_o do_v they_o will_v be_v much_o deceive_v 28.9_o prou._n 28.9_o for_o solomon_n say_v he_o that_o turn_v away_o his_o ear_n from_o hear_v the_o law_n even_o his_o prayer_n shall_v be_v abominable_a let_v will_v come_v unto_o the_o church_n and_o sit_v before_o the_o preacher_n as_o man_n and_o woman_n desire_v to_o obtain_v the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n way_n whereas_o in_o truth_n the_o lord_n and_o their_o own_o conscience_n can_v witness_v that_o they_o be_v altogether_o unwilling_a to_o receive_v any_o wholesome_a admonition_n and_o instruction_n and_o that_o no_o charge_n be_v or_o can_v be_v more_o unpleasant_a and_o distasteful_a unto_o they_o then_o that_o of_o the_o god_n of_o heaven_n when_o he_o strait_o enjoin_v they_o with_o all_o speed_n to_o get_v out_o of_o their_o sin_n and_o to_o turn_v their_o foot_n into_o the_o way_n of_o his_o testimony_n and_o because_o they_o will_v be_v very_o loath_a to_o acknowledge_v thus_o much_o but_o be_v ready_a to_o harbour_v too_o good_a a_o opinion_n of_o themselves_o as_o if_o none_o be_v more_o forward_a hearer_n than_o they_o be_v let_v their_o own_o heart_n be_v judge_n what_o preparation_n they_o make_v before_o hand_n for_o the_o fit_v of_o themselves_o for_o such_o a_o great_a work_n what_o attention_n they_o use_v when_o they_o be_v present_a and_o what_o meditation_n and_o conference_n they_o have_v concern_v it_o when_o they_o be_v depart_v of_o which_o point_v if_o they_o will_v without_o partiality_n examine_v themselves_o they_o shall_v easy_o discern_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o backwardness_n in_o their_o nature_n and_o in_o their_o practice_n if_o a_o man_n shall_v protest_v that_o he_o go_v to_o the_o market_n with_o a_o great_a desire_n to_o buy_v food_n for_o himself_o and_o his_o family_n yet_o if_o he_o always_o play_v the_o unthrift_n with_o his_o money_n and_o never_o bring_v home_o any_o provision_n we_o will_v not_o give_v credit_n to_o his_o word_n but_o account_v he_o a_o mere_a dissembler_n and_o the_o like_a censure_n may_v we_o pass_v on_o such_o as_o pretend_v they_o be_v willing_a to_o reap_v benefit_n by_o the_o word_n to_o the_o intent_n they_o may_v be_v able_a to_o help_v both_o themselves_o and_o their_o family_n and_o yet_o never_o carry_v away_o any_o thing_n to_o the_o purpose_n but_o if_o they_o ask_v they_o what_o point_n be_v handle_v they_o can_v say_v nothing_o but_o this_o sure_o we_o hear_v a_o very_a good_a sermon_n god_n be_v thank_v but_o my_o memory_n be_v very_o short_a or_o i_o can_v utter_v all_o that_o i_o have_v in_o my_o mind_n my_o
