sinner_n it_o be_v their_o work_n &_o the_o very_a design_n of_o their_o office_n to_o stop_v the_o current_n of_o profaneness_n to_o promote_v righteousness_n to_o discountenance_v sin_n and_o maintain_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n therefore_o they_o be_v to_o lay_v themselves_o out_o for_o god_n the_o minister_n to_o reprove_v rebuke_n exhort_v with_o all_o authority_n and_o the_o magistrate_n to_o maintain_v justice_n and_o good_a order_n and_o to_o distribute_v reward_n and_o punishment_n for_o he_o be_v the_o minister_n of_o god_n a_o revenger_n to_o execute_v wrath_n upon_o he_o that_o do_v evil_a hence_o it_o be_v he_o be_v say_v not_o to_o bear_v the_o sword_n in_o vain_a rom._n 13.4_o let_v such_o ruler_n consider_v the_o great_a end_n of_o providence_n in_o call_v they_o to_o authority_n over_o and_o above_o other_o and_o they_o need_v no_o more_o to_o discover_v or_o prompt_v they_o to_o their_o duty_n to_o be_v zealous_a for_o that_o god_n by_o who_o they_o involve_v themselves_o in_o the_o guilt_n of_o the_o abomination_n and_o sin_n commit_v in_o the_o place_n where_o they_o live_v and_o bear_v rule_n malum_fw-la qui_fw-la non_fw-la prohibet_fw-la cum_fw-la potest_fw-la jubet_fw-la say_v the_o moralist_n he_o that_o suffer_v sin_n to_o be_v commit_v when_o it_o be_v in_o his_o power_n to_o hinder_v it_o be_v equal_o guilty_a with_o the_o a_o people_n within_o a_o magistrate_n juridiction_n be_v his_o also_o if_o it_o be_v in_o their_o power_n therefore_o to_o command_v good_a order_n and_o reform_v the_o one_o or_o the_o other_o and_o they_o do_v it_o not_o what_o be_v this_o but_o to_o encourage_v sinner_n in_o their_o wickedness_n be_v it_o not_o to_o become_v public_a patron_n of_o sin_n and_o consequent_o to_o contract_v public_a gild_n elie_n great_a sin_n be_v that_o when_o his_o son_n make_v themselves_o vile_a he_o restrain_v they_o not_o therefore_o say_v the_o lord_n i_o will_v judge_v his_o house_n for_o ever_o impunity_n the_o zeal_n of_o two_o such_o witness_n as_o a_o religious_a magistracy_n and_o ministry_n do_v not_o only_o torment_v but_o terrify_v the_o bold_a son_n of_o belial_n and_o for_o encouragement_n act_n of_o justice_n be_v a_o sacrifice_n acceptable_a unto_o god_n and_o sometime_o as_o a_o atonement_n for_o the_o most_o cry_a sin_n as_o in_o the_o case_n of_o phinehas_n but_o suppose_v a_o people_n incorrigible_a and_o equal_o regardless_o of_o the_o authority_n of_o religious_a magistrate_n and_o minister_n which_o be_v the_o sad_a case_n &_o the_o worst_a that_o can_v be_v suppose_v yet_o what_o comfort_n will_v it_o prove_v unto_o such_o ruler_n that_o they_o have_v do_v their_o duty_n it_o be_v not_o of_o they_o that_o sin_n grow_v or_o sinner_n multiply_v they_o stand_v in_o the_o gap_n and_o their_o great_a affliction_n be_v that_o the_o son_n of_o belial_n be_v too_o hard_o for_o they_o but_o however_o as_o faithful_a witness_n and_o in_o some_o sense_n martyr_n they_o shall_v have_v their_o soul_n for_o a_o prey_n god_n be_v not_o unfaithful_a to_o forget_v their_o labour_n and_o zeal_n for_o his_o glory_n iv_o a_o hatred_n of_o sinner_n &_o a_o restraint_n of_o profaneness_n make_v ruler_n a_o public_a blessing_n unto_o any_o people_n by_o righteousness_n a_o nation_n be_v exalt_v and_o sin_n be_v not_o only_o a_o reproach_n but_o a_o sore_a and_o threaten_a evil_n then_o it_o be_v the_o wicked_a walk_n on_o every_o side_n when_o vile_a man_n be_v exalt_v psal_n 12.8_o then_o sinner_n multiply_v and_o sin_n appear_v bare_a face_v and_o the_o consequence_n be_v such_o ruler_n be_v a_o visible_a judgement_n and_o a_o curse_n upon_o the_o people_n they_o be_v give_v in_o wrath_n and_o not_o in_o mercy_n on_o the_o contrary_a
