to_o the_o right_n honourable_a the_o lord_n high_a chancellor_n and_o remanent_fw-la lord_n of_o his_o majesty_n most_o honourable_a privy_a council_n the_o humble_a petition_n of_o his_o majesty_n printer_n and_o servant_n humble_o show_v that_o where_o your_o petitioner_n be_v necessary_o employ_v in_o his_o majesty_n service_n at_o all_o time_n but_o especial_o in_o time_n of_o war_n when_o public_a paper_n be_v so_o frequent_a at_o the_o press_n which_o necessitat_v we_o to_o be_v at_o work_n both_o day_n and_o night_n at_o all_o time_n and_o on_o all_o occasion_n it_o be_v therefore_o humble_o desire_v that_o as_o the_o king_n printer_n and_o their_o servant_n in_o all_o kingdom_n be_v exempt_v not_o only_o from_o personal_a attendance_n on_o public_a occasion_n and_o at_o all_o time_n but_o be_v free_v from_o all_o burden_n whatsoever_o so_o that_o the_o petitioner_n may_v be_v according_o exempt_v whereby_o they_o will_v be_v enable_v to_o serve_v his_o majesty_n in_o their_o employment_n and_o that_o this_o may_v be_v make_v the_o more_o effectual_a to_o discharge_v the_o magistrate_n of_o edinburgh_n from_o trouble_v the_o petitioner_n in_o all_o time_n come_v with_o watch_n warding_n outreick_n of_o the_o militia_n or_o such_o other_o public_a burden_n and_o we_o and_o our_o successor_n serve_v his_o majesty_n in_o the_o say_a art_n shall_v ever_o pray_v &_o c._n by_o order_n of_o the_o secret_a committee_n tarbat_n for_o the_o whole_a officer_n of_o the_o militia-regiment_n within_o the_o good_a town_n of_o edinburgh_n who_o may_v be_v herein_o respective_o concern_v and_o whole_a officer_n of_o the_o train-band_n thereof_o you_o be_v hereby_o discharge_v from_o trouble_v and_o molest_v m_o âs_a tailzifer_n or_o any_o of_o her_o servant_n employ_v in_o the_o printing-house_n in_o attend_v the_o militia_n or_o any_o of_o your_o company_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o constant_a employment_n they_o have_v in_o the_o public_a concern_v for_o which_o these_o shall_v be_v your_o warrant_n under_o my_o hand_n at_o edinburgh_n the_o 21_o of_o may_n 1685._o year_n george_n drummond_n colonel_n
