true_o that_o the_o people_n have_v no_o great_a list_n to_o hear_v they_o but_o when_o john_n baptist_n the_o forerunner_n of_o christ_n be_v raise_v up_o to_o publish_v the_o beginning_n of_o the_o suck_v ivice_n out_o of_o the_o ground_n for_o the_o nourishment_n of_o the_o blade_n when_o the_o parch_a heat_n of_o the_o sun_n light_v upon_o it_o than_o it_o be_v dry_v up_o and_o scorch_v and_o die_v and_o never_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n some_o other_o do_v fall_v among_o thorn_n there_o be_v depth_n of_o earth_n for_o the_o seed_n to_o grow_v so_o that_o it_o spring_v up_o and_o not_o only_o a_o blade_n but_o also_o a_o stalk_n and_o come_v so_o far_o as_o to_o have_v the_o ear_n but_o the_o thorn_n grow_v up_o with_o
we_o understand_v that_o a_o man_n may_v be_v zealous_a &_o ready_a to_o hear_v preach_v understand_v carry_v away_o let_v it_o grow_v in_o his_o hart_n have_v some_o joy_n in_o it_o and_o yet_o never_o the_o better_a abide_v still_o under_o the_o curse_n but_o there_o be_v some_o which_o will_v object_v against_o i_o &_o say_v this_o be_v no_o good_a manner_n of_o teach_v for_o the_o use_v of_o true_a teach_n be_v to_o build_v up_o and_o edify_v the_o faith_n but_o this_o seem_v to_o take_v away_o the_o certainty_n of_o faith_n from_o all_o so_o that_o no_o man_n can_v tell_v whether_o heed_n that_o you_o give_v it_o depth_n of_o earth_n enough_o look_v that_o your_o heart_n be_v not_o soft_a and_o pliable_a enough_o a_o little_a above_o and_o a_o hard_a rock_n of_o stone_n within_o pleasure_n &_o delight_n when_o he_o hear_v yet_o nevertheless_o because_o he_o take_v no_o heed_n thereto_o his_o heart_n within_o be_v so_o stony_a that_o he_o hear_v but_o to_o his_o further_a increase_n of_o damnation_n many_o think_v it_o go_v well_o with_o they_o when_o as_o they_o receive_v this_o testimony_n from_o man_n he_o be_v a_o sound_n protestant_n he_o favour_v &_o delight_v their_o horn_n and_o to_o kide_v their_o head_n so_o soon_o as_o there_o be_v any_o fear_n of_o danger_n or_o likelihood_n of_o persecution_n neither_o will_v man_n bear_v themselves_o in_o hand_n that_o they_o â—e_v jolly_a professor_n when_o they_o have_v but_o a_o little_a taste_v of_o the_o word_n and_o be_v no_o more_o but_o empty_a barrel_n which_o give_v a_o great_a sound_n here_o than_o we_o be_v set_v a_o work_n with_o great_a toil_n to_o have_v this_o same_o hard_a stony_a ground_n make_v soft_a and_o fit_a to_o receive_v this_o heavenlye_a seed_n and_o he_o which_o be_v not_o careful_a in_o this_o point_n to_o take_v pain_n you_o shall_v see_v he_o wax_v so_o hard_o that_o even_o as_o a_o continual_a rain_n drop_v upon_o a_o rock_n of_o stone_n make_v it_o never_o the_o soft_a so_o nothing_o can_v make_v his_o heart_n to_o relent_v this_o may_v teach_v we_o then_o to_o cease_v marvel_v when_o we_o see_v so_o many_o which_o willing_o give_v themselves_o to_o be_v our_o neck_n to_o receive_v the_o doctrine_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o to_o open_v our_o heart_n in_o such_o sort_n that_o he_o may_v dig_v in_o they_o and_o thrust_v in_o his_o spade_n to_o the_o bottom_n for_o otherwise_o it_o can_v go_v well_o with_o us._n if_o this_o be_v practise_v among_o we_o we_o shall_v not_o have_v so_o many_o old_a rusty_a protestant_n which_o if_o a_o man_n talk_v with_o they_o from_o morning_n to_o night_n they_o be_v able_a to_o continue_v speech_n in_o recite_v story_n and_o place_n of_o scripture_n and_o will_v utter_v matter_n against_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o pope_n but_o let_v a_o man_n urge_v they_o with_o the_o doctrine_n of_o regeneration_n and_o stand_v upon_o the_o necessity_n of_o sincere_a repentance_n show_v they_o that_o they_o must_v be_v trulye_o humble_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o their_o sin_n that_o they_o must_v mortify_v and_o subdue_v their_o carnal_a lust_n this_o be_v to_o hard_a a_o crust_n for_o their_o old_a tooth_n to_o purge_v his_o heart_n and_o to_o make_v room_n for_o the_o holy_a word_n that_o it_o may_v grow_v there_o alone_o and_o not_o be_v overshadow_a and_o choke_v now_o let_v we_o mark_v well_o that_o which_o be_v say_v here_o both_o of_o the_o stony_a and_o also_o of_o the_o thorny_a ground_n how_o far_o they_o proceed_v in_o profess_v christ_n and_o embrace_v his_o gospel_n and_o we_o shall_v plain_o see_v how_o great_o those_o carnal_a gospeler_n which_o will_v not_o have_v faith_n to_o be_v try_v by_o the_o fruit_n be_v deceive_v faith_n faith_n say_v they_o be_v that_o which_o do_v justify_v it_o be_v true_a indeed_o but_o not_o a_o fruitless_a faith_n whosoever_o beléeve_v shall_v be_v save_v it_o be_v even_o so_o but_o not_o after_o every_o kind_n of_o belief_n for_o then_o why_o shall_v not_o these_o two_o sort_n of_o herer_n be_v save_v it_o be_v marvellous_a when_o the_o scripture_n be_v so_o evident_a &_o our_o saviour_n christ_n speak_v so_o plain_o that_o this_o gross_a &_o doltish_a error_n shall_v possess_v the_o mind_n of_o so_o many_o but_o indeed_o it_o be_v a_o sweet_a doctrine_n when_o a_o man_n may_v let_v loose_a the_o reins_n to_o all_o the_o lust_n
