adoration_n for_o his_o saviour_n and_o yet_o contrary_a to_o the_o dictate_v of_o heaven_n and_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o bless_a jesus_n make_v it_o his_o business_n to_o speak_v evil_a of_o dignity_n and_o disturb_v the_o peace_n of_o the_o kingdom_n in_o which_o he_o live_v ii_o i_o proceed_v to_o show_v that_o we_o owe_v a_o strict_a obedience_n to_o the_o high_a power_n of_o this_o realm_n which_o be_v easy_o evince_v because_o they_o be_v such_o power_n which_o be_v sovereign_a and_o as_o they_o be_v absolute_o supreme_a so_o ought_v we_o to_o be_v absolute_o obedient_a the_o king_n of_o this_o realm_n be_v say_v crimine_fw-la vacare_fw-la because_o they_o owe_v a_o account_n of_o their_o offence_n only_o to_o heaven_n they_o be_v say_v to_o be_v law_n to_o themselves_o because_o though_o in_o the_o court_n of_o their_o own_o conscience_n they_o be_v oblige_v to_o reign_v according_a to_o law_n yet_o they_o be_v absolve_v of_o all_o law_n in_o relation_n to_o a_o earthly_a tribunal_n the_o king_n of_o this_o realm_n like_o those_o of_o the_o jew_n may_v do_v whatsoever_o they_o think_v fit_a without_o controlment_n from_o the_o subject_a for_o since_o they_o be_v god_n lieutenant_n can_v they_o be_v accountable_a to_o any_o but_o their_o almighty_a captain_n since_o they_o be_v head_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n what_o member_n shall_v call_v they_o to_o question_n and_o since_o they_o have_v the_o sole_a power_n of_o the_o sword_n what_o hand_n can_v just_o draw_v it_o without_o their_o commission_n the_o king_n of_o this_o realm_n by_o virtue_n their_o prerogative_n when_o law_n become_v sharp_a may_v soften_v they_o as_o they_o please_v and_o when_o too_o cruel_a total_o pro_fw-la tempore_fw-la suspend_v they_o to_o the_o prerogative_n we_o owe_v the_o call_n of_o parliament_n the_o prorogue_a of_o the_o good_a and_o the_o dissolution_n of_o the_o bad_a to_o the_o merciful_a exercise_n of_o the_o prerogative_n we_o owe_v that_o we_o ourselves_o sit_v every_o man_n under_o his_o own_o vine_n and_o drink_v the_o water_n of_o his_o own_o cistern_n for_o by_o the_o same_o undoubted_a right_n of_o sovereignty_n that_o the_o king_n in_o dispense_n with_o the_o law_n show_v the_o light_n of_o his_o countenance_n to_o some_o of_o his_o subject_n by_o the_o same_o he_o may_v if_o he_o please_v become_v a_o cloud_n and_o darkness_n to_o the_o rest_n for_o by_o the_o right_n of_o supremacy_n he_o may_v do_v all_o thing_n without_o controlment_n and_o coercion_n and_o although_o he_o at_o any_o time_n act_n as_o he_o may_v do_v contrary_a to_o the_o law_n which_o himself_o or_o his_o ancestor_n have_v ratify_v yet_o at_o the_o same_o time_n he_o act_v but_o according_a to_o the_o natural_a law_n and_o right_n of_o his_o prerogative_n and_o indeed_o if_o we_o consider_v the_o natural_a law_n and_o right_n of_o sovereignty_n no_o law_n can_v be_v make_v by_o a_o sovereign_n but_o there_o must_v be_v this_o tacit_n reserve_v in_o it_o viz._n that_o it_o shall_v continue_v in_o force_n only_o so_o long_o as_o the_o supreme_a power_n think_v it_o necessary_a and_o convenient_a and_o thus_o since_o the_o king_n of_o this_o realm_n be_v supreme_a we_o ought_v strict_o to_o pay_v they_o such_o a_o humble_a obedience_n as_o may_v be_v answerable_a to_o the_o greatness_n of_o their_o power_n iii_o i_o come_v now_o to_o show_v the_o reasonableness_n of_o our_o obedience_n to_o the_o king_n in_o this_o present_a juncture_n of_o affair_n that_o be_v why_o we_o ought_v to_o comply_v and_o cooperate_v with_o his_o majesty_n in_o the_o repeal_n of_o the_o test_n and_o penal_a law_n and_o settle_v a_o last_a indulgence_n in_o relation_n to_o conscience_n for_o matter_n of_o mere_a religion_n and_o this_o i_o shall_v evince_v from_o these_o eight_o follow_a consideration_n 1._o from_o the_o nature_n of_o conscience_n as_o to_o matter_n of_o mere_a religion_n 2._o from_o the_o genius_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n consider_v in_o its_o first_o plant_v and_o propagation_n 3._o from_o the_o ill_a consequence_n of_o force_n and_o the_o happy_a effect_n of_o clemency_n in_o affair_n of_o religion_n 4._o from_o the_o allegiance_n and_o gratitude_n we_o oweto_a his_o majesty_n 5._o from_o the_o liberty_n that_o be_v due_a to_o the_o subject_a 6._o from_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o interest_n of_o the_o church_n 7._o from_o the_o duty_n we_o owe_v toour_fw-mi neighbour_n 8._o from_o the_o kindness_n that_o be_v due_a to_o our_o country_n first_o from_o the_o nature_n of_o conscience_n as_o to_o matter_n of_o mere_a religion_n now_o conscience_n in_o relation_n to_o matter_n of_o mere_a religion_n in_o the_o present_a case_n be_v a_o conclusion_n of_o the_o reason_n ableness_n or_o unreasonableness_n of_o our_o belief_n draw_v from_o scripture_n thus_o when_o man_n say_v they_o can_v believe_v such_o a_o particular_a point_n of_o divinity_n or_o they_o must_v dissent_v from_o any_o parricular_a way_n of_o divine_a worship_n it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o to_o say_v that_o their_o understanding_n tell_v they_o that_o such_o a_o point_n of_o faith_n or_o such_o a_o way_n of_o worship_n be_v not_o consentaneous_a to_o the_o scripture_n and_o when_o man_n say_v they_o believe_v and_o worship_n according_a to_o their_o conscience_n it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o to_o say_v that_o they_o do_v both_o because_o their_o understanding_n conclude_v that_o they_o act_n according_a to_o god_n word_n thus_o conscience_n in_o matter_n of_o belief_n be_v pure_o a_o act_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o since_o it_o be_v so_o it_o be_v impossible_a it_o shall_v be_v force_v and_o the_o impossibility_n of_o it_o ought_v to_o supersede_n all_o endeavonr_n towards_o it_o nay_o conscience_n in_o relation_n to_o matter_n of_o worship_n which_o be_v the_o effect_n only_o of_o the_o former_a though_o you_o may_v obstruct_v its_o public_a exercise_n yet_o without_o convert_v man_n into_o statue_n you_o can_v never_o hinder_v its_o private_a and_o therefore_o when_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o kingdom_n be_v concern_v it_o ought_v to_o be_v permit_v beside_o let_v we_o consider_v that_o every_o soul_n be_v only_o the_o empire_n of_o heaven_n &_o god_n almighty_n have_v set_v conscience_n there_o as_o he_o have_v place_v particular_a king_n in_o their_o respective_a kingdom_n &_o that_o be_v as_o his_o sole_a vice_n gerent_fw-la whosoever_o therefore_o violent_o fight_v against_o conscience_n fight_v against_o heaven_n because_o he_o endeavour_n by_o undue_a mean_n to_o subject_a god_n immediate_a minister_n and_o though_o conscience_n like_o some_o heathen_a king_n prove_v many_o time_n erroneous_a because_o it_o draw_v undue_a conclusion_n from_o god_n sacred_a word_n yet_o it_o be_v like_o those_o emperor_n only_o answerable_a to_o heaven_n for_o such_o error_n if_o it_o be_v here_o object_v that_o man_n just_o aught_o to_o be_v punish_v if_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v when_o scripture_n be_v right_o interpret_v i_o answer_v that_o i_o shall_v have_v think_v that_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n be_v only_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o light_n and_o he_o only_o can_v incline_v the_o heart_n who_o make_v it_o and_o therefore_o to_o pretend_v to_o bestow_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n be_v to_o usurp_v the_o prerogative_n of_o heaven_n no_o this_o gift_n of_o god_n can_v no_o more_o be_v confer_v by_o penal_a law_n and_o take_v away_o money_n than_o that_o which_o simon_n hope_v to_o enjoy_v by_o give_v money_n heaven_n never_o open_v the_o understanding_n by_o unlock_v the_o chest_n nor_o do_v it_o prick_n and_o wound_v the_o conscience_n by_o mangle_v a_o estate_n and_o ruine_v the_o possessor_n but_o some_o say_v dissenter_n be_v not_o punish_v as_o religious_a and_o conscientious_a but_o for_o their_o disobedience_n to_o the_o law_n of_o the_o nation_n but_o this_o fallacy_n be_v so_o palpable_a that_o it_o be_v easy_o solve_v by_o ask_v one_o plain_a question_n viz._n why_o be_v those_o law_n make_v and_o the_o answer_n must_v be_v that_o the_o spring_n which_o first_o move_v their_o debate_n be_v religion_n and_o the_o end_n for_o which_o they_o be_v make_v be_v that_o a_o religious_a uniformity_n may_v be_v observe_v by_o all_o the_o subject_n of_o this_o realm_n so_o that_o whosoever_o be_v punish_v by_o the_o force_n of_o those_o law_n who_o source_n be_v from_o and_o who_o end_n be_v for_o religion_n be_v real_o punish_v as_o religious_a and_o if_o he_o suffer_v not_o beside_o as_o a_o evil_a doer_n his_o punishment_n be_v unjust_a for_o in_o such_o a_o punishment_n the_o body_n suffer_v because_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o of_o the_o same_o stamp_n with_o that_o of_o his_o neighbour_n and_o for_o the_o same_o reason_n a_o man_n may_v be_v lash_v because_o he_o have_v not_o as_o a_o agreeable_a a_o face_n as_o those_o that_o live_v around_o he_o for_o neither_o his_o
