need_n of_o i_o for_o it_o will_v suffice_v i_o &_o be_v too_o much_o that_o such_o a_o one_o as_o i_o be_o may_v be_v the_o lest_o of_o the_o servant_n of_o thy_o house_n &_o yet_o deserve_v not_o so_o much_o and_o be_o altogether_o unworthy_a of_o it_o but_o see_v thy_o goodness_n have_v now_o call_v i_o and_z that_o inplease_v thou_o that_o i_o shall_v dwell_v here_o &_o speak_v unto_o thou_o offend_v or_o in_o dishonour_n serve_v by_o i_o &_o despise_v of_o such_o a_o wicked_a and_o vile_a sinner_n as_o i_o be_o rather_o i_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o suffer_v a_o thousand_o death_n then_o to_o offend_v and_o despise_v thy_o highness_n for_o hereby_o i_o shall_v dishonour_v and_o injury_n the_o angel_n archangelle_n &_o all_o celestial_a power_n who_o entire_o love_v thy_o goodness_n desire_n and_o fear_v no_o more_o and_o if_o thou_o hereafter_o will_v become_v a_o new_a man_n &_o such_o a_o one_o as_o yâ—_z ought_v to_o be_v than_o i_o will_v remember_v no_o more_o the_o take_v these_o two_o i_o and_o thou_o which_o be_v the_o two_o first_o and_o the_o other_o two_o slave_n and_o king_n and_o if_o thou_o can_v right_o put_v these_o word_n in_o practice_n they_o will_v bring_v thou_o to_o great_a virtue_n &_o perfection_n &_o defend_v thou_o against_o all_o thy_o natural_a and_o unbrideled_a affection_n &_o cause_v thou_o to_o remain_v and_o live_v with_o every_o man_n in_o peace_n &_o unity_n i_o pray_v thou_o my_o only_a lord_n and_o sovereign_n qd_n desire_n that_o it_o may_v please_v thou_o to_o show_v unto_o i_o how_o i_o may_v best_o exercise_v myself_o with_o these_o four_o word_n thou_o may_v refer_v all_o thy_o exercise_n to_o these_o word_n for_o they_o contain_v in_o they_o a_o great_a and_o deep_a knowledge_n whereof_o one_o may_v write_v great_a volume_n and_o whereby_o without_o book_n one_o may_v likewise_o attain_v to_o great_a perfection_n therefore_o whensoever_o thou_o come_v to_o speak_v with_o i_o or_o go_v about_o any_o thing_n which_o be_v command_v thou_o &_o be_v altogether_o faint_a cold_a &_o unwilling_a then_o persuade_v thyself_o that_o i_o do_v speak_v to_o thou_o these_o word_n i_o &_o thou_o &_o no_o more_o &_o thus_o forget_v all_o the_o world_n &_o think_v that_o there_o be_v no_o body_n in_o the_o world_n but_o i_o and_o thou_o the_o other_o two_o word_n slave_n &_o king_n shall_v serve_v thou_o for_o thing_n which_o thou_o know_v not_o i_o will_v admonish_v thou_o which_o be_v the_o more_o cross_n adversity_n and_o misery_n i_o lay_v upon_o my_o servant_n the_o wear_v joy_n comfort_n &_o blessedness_n i_o be_o mind_v and_o endeavour_n to_o bestow_v upon_o they_o but_o will_v thou_o leave_v thy_o dog_n good_a will_v here_o to_o i_o for_o will_n may_v he_o remain_v here_o if_o thou_o page_n grow_v in_o humility_n garden_n where_o she_o esteem_v herself_o a_o slave_n of_o all_o slave_n and_o worse_o than_o a_o beast_n but_o to_o come_v easy_o to_o this_o herb_n because_o it_o be_v a_o great_a way_n to_o the_o palace_n of_o humility_n and_o thou_o shall_v take_v a_o horse_n to_o ride_v on_o call_v to_o think_v well_o of_o every_o man_n and_o by_o these_o mean_n may_v thou_o come_v by_o this_o herb_n every_o morning_n the_o second_o herb_n be_v make_v of_o three_o sundry_a herb_n of_o the_o first_o think_v humble_o of_o meekness_n and_o affability_n in_o speech_n &_o upon_o the_o last_o be_v cast_v a_o small_a ponder_v call_v slow_a and_o little_a the_o three_o herb_n call_v to_o work_v humble_o be_v make_v of_o diverse_a herb_n whereof_o mirth_n love_n and_o quietness_n or_o diligence_n be_v the_o chief_a and_o whensoever_o thou_o do_v feed_v i_o with_o these_o herb_n than_o our_o acquaintance_n and_o friend_n ship_n will_v continue_v &_o abide_v for_o ever_o &_o i_o will_v soons_o bring_v thou_o to_o that_o speech_n of_o my_o master_n the_o counsel_n and_o doctrine_n of_o the_o page_n do_v delight_v desire_n &_o say_v see_v thou_o have_v make_v i_o favour_n as_o to_o bring_v i_o to_o thy_o lord_n willing_o quoth_v neighbourly_a love_n for_o thou_o have_v do_v thy_o endeavour_n since_o thou_o have_v be_v with_o i_o but_o tarry_v here_o a_o while_n i_o will_v go_v call_v my_o lord_n &_o see_v whether_o he_o will_v come_v forth_o to_o speak_v with_o thou_o the_o third_o chapter_n intreat_v of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n &_o his_o there_o be_v seven_o house_n in_o this_o desert_n and_o there_o be_v no_o other_o high_a way_n but_o one_o but_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n i_o will_v show_v thou_o a_o short_a foot_n path_n which_o will_v shorten_v thy_o way_n that_o thou_o may_v come_v the_o soon_o to_o thy_o journey_n end_n but_o thou_o must_v follow_v my_o counsel_n desire_n be_v glad_a to_o hear_v these_o word_n and_o chief_o because_o she_o do_v it_o only_o for_o love_n and_o say_v whatsoever_o thou_o command_v i_o to_o do_v that_o will_v i_o do_v most_o willing_o for_o hereby_o to_o find_v out_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o this_o desert_n say_v she_o stand_v eight_o house_n or_o palace_n the_o first_o be_v the_o palace_n of_o humility_n the_o second_o of_o justice_n the_o three_o of_o wisdom_n the_o four_o of_o fortitude_n the_o five_o of_o temperance_n the_o sixth_o of_o faith_n the_o seven_o of_o hope_n the_o eight_o of_o charity_n and_o in_o the_o last_o of_o all_o dwellet_n the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o be_v sovereign_n of_o the_o house_n &_o all_o this_o way_n must_v thou_o go_v so_o thou_o will_v not_o go_v out_o of_o thy_o way_n but_o as_o i_o have_v tell_v thou_o before_o so_o according_a to_o my_o promise_n will_v i_o show_v thou_o a_o foot_n path_n to_o shorten_v thy_o way_n but_o first_o of_o all_o must_v thou_o dwell_v for_o a_o time_n here_o in_o this_o house_n for_o to_o learn_v mark_n and_o remember_v all_o our_o manner_n and_o become_v acquaint_v with_o our_o sovereign_n &_o her_o watch_a maid_n and_o never_o to_o forget_v their_o name_n nor_o their_o countenance_n and_o when_o thou_o shall_v have_v have_v a_o trial_n of_o all_o belong_v to_o this_o house_n and_o shall_v bring_v certain_a token_n from_o we_o to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n then_o soon_o will_v he_o entertain_v thou_o for_o the_o great_a affection_n he_o bear_v to_o our_o house_n above_o any_o of_o the_o rest_n and_o chief_o when_o he_o shall_v see_v a_o letter_n from_o our_o sovereign_n wherefore_o demand_v desire_n do_v this_o knight_n love_v this_o house_n more_o
than_o any_o other_o for_o in_o my_o judgement_n it_o be_v the_o poor_a and_o bare_a of_o they_o all_o thou_o must_v know_v that_o this_o house_n be_v the_o first_o build_v in_o this_o desert_n and_o all_o the_o rest_n be_v subject_a under_o it_o and_o our_o commander_n and_o chief_a govenour_n the_o first_o founder_n of_o it_o do_v dwell_v here_o and_o although_o he_o go_v in_o progress_n oftentimes_o for_o to_o see_v the_o other_o his_o friend_n and_o subject_n so_o to_o keep_v they_o in_o good_a order_n yet_o notwtstanding_v all_o this_o will_v not_o be_v call_v but_o a_o son_n of_o this_o house_n desire_n have_v give_v a_o diligent_a ear_n to_o her_o word_n find_v his_o hart_n to_o be_v more_o inflaim_v with_o love_n for_o he_o do_v conceive_v her_o meaning_n very_o well_o &_o say_v that_o he_o will_v willing_o remain_v there_o for_o a_o time_n till_o she_o have_v learn_v all_o their_o custom_n let_v we_o go_v within_o then_o say_v she_o and_o take_v he_o by_o the_o hand_n and_o go_v to_o show_v he_o all_o the_o house_n the_o seven_o chapter_n concern_v the_o talk_n which_o humility_n have_v with_o desire_n after_o that_o the_o lady_n have_v show_v he_o all_o the_o house_n he_o great_o marvel_v at_o the_o fairness_n and_o beauty_n thereof_o and_o the_o more_o because_o it_o seem_v outwarde_o but_o very_o simple_a and_o homely_a and_o of_o no_o great_a shoe_n but_o be_v within_o very_o profitable_a and_o necessary_a the_o foundation_n whereof_o be_v not_o set_v upon_o gravel_n or_o sand_n but_o upon_o a_o fair_a and_o precious_a stone_n and_o after_o he_o have_v say_v his_o prayer_n in_o the_o chapel_n stand_v in_o the_o house_n the_o lady_n do_v lead_v he_o into_o the_o chamber_n of_o her_o sovereign_n who_o receive_v he_o most_o courteous_o and_o because_o she_o find_v he_o so_o advise_v and_o circumspect_a in_o all_o his_o word_n bid_v he_o to_o sit_v down_o next_o to_o her_o side_n and_o say_v my_o son_n wherefore_o be_v thou_o come_v to_o we_o see_v that_o we_o be_v so_o simple_a poor_a and_o despise_v ah_o most_o reverend_a lady_n answer_v desire_n i_o seek_v for_o a_o knight_n call_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o i_o be_o tell_v that_o i_o shall_v not_o find_v he_o unless_o i_o remain_v for_o a_o certain_a time_n with_o your_o ladyship_n and_o if_o it_o will_v please_v you_o i_o will_v most_o glad_o tarry_v here_o at_o your_o obedience_n and_o commandment_n thy_o good_a will_n say_v the_o lady_n please_v i_o well_o but_o first_o of_o all_o remember_v thyself_o and_o have_v care_n what_o thou_o have_v to_o do_v for_o not_o we_o than_o thou_o must_v seek_v to_o keep_v my_o daughter_n favour_n who_o bring_v thou_o in_o &_o take_v she_o as_o thy_o govern_v for_o she_o be_v call_v esteem_v nothing_o and_o we_o have_v put_v she_o in_o this_o office_n to_o entertain_v stranger_n because_o she_o shall_v instruct_v they_o and_o those_o that_o will_v not_o be_v under_o her_o commandment_n can_v never_o remain_v constant_a that_o it_o be_v necessary_a for_o i_o to_o know_v all_o this_o that_o by_o these_o mean_v i_o may_v love_v your_o ladyship_n and_o all_o your_o household_n the_o better_a and_o likewise_o when_o i_o shall_v go_v from_o hence_o that_o i_o may_v give_v those_o that_o shall_v ask_v i_o good_a directious_a and_o certain_a token_n of_o my_o former_a abide_v here_o my_o name_n say_v she_o be_v humility_n my_o father_n be_v call_v contempt_n of_o himself_o and_o my_o grandfather_n knowledge_n of_o himself_o and_o my_o grandmother_n knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o my_o grandfather_n be_v bear_v in_o a_o city_n call_v remember_v what_o thou_o be_v what_o thou_o have_v be_v and_o what_o thou_o shall_v be_v and_o my_o grandmother_n be_v bear_v in_o a_o city_n call_v remembrance_n of_o the_o love_n god_n and_o to_o come_v to_o the_o city_n where_o they_o be_v bear_v there_o be_v but_o two_o way_n and_o two_o gate_n to_o come_v in_o the_o one_o be_v himself_o and_o the_o other_o the_o creature_n beside_o they_o say_v that_o none_o can_v come_v into_o the_o foresay_a gate_n but_o fly_v and_o how_o the_o lord_n himself_o have_v build_v the_o city_n with_o his_o own_o hand_n for_o there_o be_v no_o man_n able_a to_o build_v so_o great_a fair_a and_o strong_a a_o city_n than_o he_o only_o how_o say_v desire_n the_o lord_n who_o be_v so_o excellent_a will_v be_v busy_a himself_o to_o make_v such_o wall_n of_o earth_n i_o answer_v she_o for_o he_o be_v a_o cunning_a mason_n and_o delight_v great_o to_o make_v wall_n and_o monument_n of_o earth_n wherefore_o do_v he_o this_o see_v he_o need_v nor_o want_v nothing_o quoth_v desire_n therefore_o answer_v she_o because_o he_o be_v so_o bountiful_a that_o he_o will_v never_o be_v idle_a in_o do_v good_a to_o other_o and_o of_o all_o that_o he_o do_v seek_v but_o every_o man_n health_n rest_n and_o salvation_n although_o the_o honour_n hereof_o apertaine_v to_o he_o only_o and_o therefore_o he_o make_v his_o work_n of_o such_o slight_a and_o vile_a stuff_n as_o earth_n to_o be_v the_o more_o praise_v of_o all_o i_o marvel_v say_v desire_n that_o such_o a_o noble_a and_o high_a lord_n will_v be_v praise_v and_o fear_v not_o to_o fall_v into_o vain_a glory_n not_o so_o say_v humility_n for_o he_o be_v so_o perfect_a in_o all_o goodness_n that_o no_o imperfection_n can_v any_o way_n touch_v he_o and_o the_o glory_n which_o we_o do_v give_v he_o be_v not_o vain_a but_o be_v his_o due_n as_o belong_v unto_o he_o and_o although_o we_o shall_v give_v he_o as_o much_o honour_n as_o ever_o we_o can_v yet_o in_o no_o wise_a shall_v we_o pay_v that_o which_o we_o do_v owe_v and_o much_o less_o attain_v to_o that_o he_o be_v worthy_a of_o and_o therefore_o he_o will_v be_v praise_v and_o honour_v not_o because_o he_o be_v ambitious_a but_o because_o he_o be_v the_o most_o perfect_a in_o all_o justice_n &_o perfection_n and_o will_v that_o every_o one_o shall_v receive_v that_o which_o be_v their_o own_o and_o due_a unto_o they_o and_o because_o we_o do_v owe_v unto_o he_o which_o be_v good_a alone_a all_o hâ—â—â—or_n praise_n &_o thanks_o he_o will_v therefore_o in_o justice_n that_o we_o do_v give_v it_o unto_o he_o and_o whensoever_o any_o other_o do_v desire_n or_o look_v â—or_a it_o as_o if_o it_o be_v hâ—s_n own_o then_o may_v he_o well_o be_v call_v vainglorious_a steal_v it_o from_o he_o to_o who_o it_o only_o belong_v and_o be_v worthy_a of_o no_o better_a title_n then_o of_o a_o thief_n that_o will_v seem_v to_o usurp_v god_n right_a which_o be_v due_a only_a unto_o his_o divine_a majesty_n the_o eight_o chapter_n wherein_o humility_n proceed_v in_o her_o word_n desire_v say_v i_o pray_v your_o ladyship_n see_v you_o have_v satisfy_v i_o in_o the_o rest_n to_o tell_v i_o by_o what_o mean_v you_o be_v become_v a_o sovereign_n to_o this_o house_n for_o in_o my_o judgement_n it_o be_v a_o great_a honour_n &_o credit_n and_o perchance_o it_o may_v be_v my_o luck_n to_o be_v once_o a_o commander_n of_o such_o a_o like_a place_n for_o there_o be_v great_a difference_n to_o command_v and_o to_o be_v command_v the_o lady_n humility_n hear_v these_o word_n begin_v to_o bitter_o wherefore_o desire_n demand_v she_o the_o occasion_n of_o her_o sorrow_n &_o weep_v then_o answer_v she_o i_o weep_v because_o i_o see_v thou_o outward_o &_o not_o inward_o clad_v with_o humility_n and_o carry_v only_o the_o bare_a name_n of_o a_o advise_a man_n thy_o heart_n and_o mind_n be_v notwithstanding_o far_o from_o it_o in_o vain_a have_v thou_o speak_v yet_o to_o i_o and_o till_o now_o have_v thou_o dissemble_v with_o we_o all_o because_o such_o thought_n and_o desire_n
the_o great_a token_n and_o witness_n which_o we_o can_v have_v of_o his_o love_n towards_o we_o be_v when_o he_o do_v not_o comfort_v we_o in_o this_o wretched_a world_n or_o bestow_v on_o we_o all_o that_o our_o flesh_n and_o lust_n do_v crave_v and_o desire_v moreover_o he_o do_v send_v we_o poverty_n because_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v too_o pensive_a and_o careful_a for_o the_o good_n and_o riches_n of_o this_o world_n but_o that_o we_o shall_v serve_v he_o with_o a_o unfeigned_a mind_n and_o a_o joyful_a spirit_n and_o not_o light_o for_o any_o worldly_a thing_n gain_n or_o loss_n prosperity_n or_o adversity_n receive_v a_o vain_a joy_n or_o discomfort_n but_o that_o our_o heart_n shall_v always_o in_o rest_n and_o quiet_a without_o perturbation_n or_o discord_n be_v unite_v with_o god_n our_o creator_n and_o saviour_n for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v of_o such_o tender_a and_o gentle_a nature_n that_o he_o can_v not_o dwell_v but_o in_o a_o quiet_a cleave_v &_o peaceable_a place_n which_o be_v your_o chief_a virtue_n quoth_v desire_n my_o chief_a virtue_n be_v answer_v poverty_n to_o frame_v and_o conform_v myself_o to_o the_o godly_a and_o virtuous_a conversation_n of_o the_o child_n of_o god_n who_o company_n i_o glad_o do_v frequent_v and_o although_o my_o desire_n be_v for_o to_o have_v nothing_o yet_o for_o to_o shut_v out_o a_o wild_a bear_v who_o do_v destroy_v all_o our_o garden_n call_v partiality_n or_o exception_n of_o person_n my_o mother_n have_v ordain_v that_o i_o shall_v live_v as_o the_o other_o of_o my_o sister_n do_v but_o because_o i_o shall_v not_o lose_v the_o reward_n of_o my_o virtue_n she_o have_v marry_v i_o to_o a_o holy_a mind_n call_v to_o desire_v nothing_o this_o quoth_v desire_n in_o my_o judgement_n be_v to_o desire_v more_o then_o to_o be_v good_a or_o more_o than_o we_o do_v owe_v or_o be_v bind_v unto_o for_o i_o do_v persuade_v myself_o that_o your_o landlord_n do_v counsel_v you_o rather_o to_o the_o poverty_n of_o the_o spirit_n they_o to_o that_o of_o the_o boly_n and_o the_o prophet_n say_v if_o thy_o good_n and_o wealth_n do_v increase_v set_v not_o thy_o heart_n upon_o it_o therefore_o i_o esteem_v that_o the_o virtue_n of_o poverty_n do_v not_o consist_v in_o possess_v little_a or_o much_o but_o in_o the_o hart_n and_o mind_n of_o the_o possessor_n it_o be_v true_a quoth_v she_o that_o the_o virtue_n of_o poverty_n consist_v in_o the_o spiritie_n yet_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o forbear_v these_o thing_n it_o be_v a_o precious_a virtue_n &_o worthy_a of_o great_a praise_n &_o commendation_n for_o our_o love_n and_o desire_n be_v so_o much_o incline_v to_o the_o beauty_n and_o comeliness_n of_o these_o earthly_a thing_n that_o hardly_o we_o can_v possess_v they_o without_o fix_v our_o whole_a mind_n upon_o they_o and_o because_o they_o shall_v not_o draw_v we_o away_o from_o the_o love_n which_o we_o bear_v to_o god_n which_o common_o be_v very_o small_a it_o be_v good_a and_o wise_o do_v to_o take_v the_o flax_n from_o the_o fire_n and_o to_o remove_v &_o prevent_v all_o occasion_n of_o mischief_n as_o much_o as_o lie_v in_o us._n for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n will_v have_v all_o the_o heart_n and_o can_v abide_v no_o partner_n and_o take_v of_o this_o a_o example_n of_o our_o saviour_n himself_o who_o can_v have_v possess_v all_o the_o wealth_n of_o this_o world_n &_o that_o without_o to_o set_v his_o mind_n upon_o it_o but_o behold_v i_o pray_v thou_o how_o poor_a he_o and_o all_o his_o apostle_n be_v what_o do_v this_o else_o signify_v but_o that_o we_o shall_v abstain_v from_o these_o thing_n which_o be_v so_o dangerous_a &_o draw_v many_o that_o do_v possess_v they_o into_o everlasting_a pain_n and_o damnation_n the_o twenty_o one_o chapter_n intreat_v of_o obedience_n desire_n be_v likewise_o comfort_v by_o this_o damsel_n and_o take_v his_o leave_n of_o she_o and_o his_o guide_n bring_v he_o to_o a_o other_o of_o lady_n humility_n daughter_n call_v obedience_n who_o he_o great_o do_v reverence_v for_o her_o countenance_n and_o outward_a apparaunce_n do_v show_v that_o she_o be_v of_o great_a dignity_n and_o more_o esteem_v of_o by_o the_o love_n of_o god_n than_o any_o of_o her_o sister_n be_v and_o when_o he_o do_v offer_v to_o kiss_v her_o hand_n she_o will_v not_o suffer_v it_o for_o she_o be_v one_o of_o lady_n humilitye_n daughter_n and_o seek_v not_o after_o honour_n and_o promotion_n but_o she_o bid_v he_o to_o sit_v down_o by_o she_o whereupon_o desire_n do_v inquire_v her_o name_n and_o condition_n my_o name_n quoth_v the_o lady_n be_v obedience_n &_o i_o be_o marry_v to_o a_o husband_n call_v to_o leave_v nothing_o undo_v who_o be_v a_o very_a valiant_a and_o renown_a knight_n and_o he_o only_o be_v able_a to_o overthrow_v this_o fearful_a and_o terrible_a beast_n range_v thus_o in_o the_o world_n call_v self-will_n which_o beast_n do_v devour_v all_o those_o that_o follow_v and_o love_v he_o and_o cause_v through_o his_o sweet_a whistle_n all_o the_o ungodly_a to_o follow_v he_o and_o few_o do_v leave_v he_o before_o he_o have_v bring_v they_o to_o eternal_a destruction_n but_o every_o body_n fly_v away_o from_o i_o although_o it_o be_v most_o true_a that_o without_o i_o none_o can_v get_v and_o obtain_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o see_v that_o god_n have_v give_v i_o so_o good_a a_o husband_n therefore_o i_o do_v nothing_o but_o that_o he_o command_v i_o likewise_o i_o crave_v nothing_o at_o his_o hand_n but_o necessary_n and_o i_o never_o do_v go_v about_o any_o thing_n alone_o for_o fear_n of_o thief_n for_o here_o be_v many_o and_o hide_v themselves_o so_o that_o i_o can_v see_v they_o who_o go_v then_o with_o you_o quoth_v desire_n first_o answer_v she_o a_o trusty_a dog_n call_v good_a will_n and_o my_o sister_n sincerity_n and_o my_o daughter_n foresight_n mirth_n diligence_n and_o chastity_n and_o before_o all_o thing_n my_o mother_n humility_n will_v always_o accompany_v i_o all_o these_o must_v i_o needs_o take_v with_o i_o for_o to_o go_v sure_a and_o without_o danger_n and_o for_o to_o do_v those_o thing_n which_o be_v command_v i_o i_o pray_v you_o quoth_v desire_n to_o tell_v i_o in_o what_o sort_n your_o mother_n humility_n be_v always_o with_o you_o in_o all_o thing_n which_o you_o take_v in_o hand_n for_o i_o can_v well_o understande_v it_o of_o all_o thing_n which_o i_o do_v answer_v she_o although_o they_o be_v the_o great_a of_o the_o world_n i_o think_v not_o once_o that_o i_o have_v do_v any_o goodness_n nor_o set_v my_o trust_n or_o confidence_n upon_o they_o nor_o do_v exalt_v myself_o for_o they_o nor_o persuade_v myself_o that_o other_o be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v the_o like_a or_o better_o nor_o do_v desire_n that_o any_o man_n shall_v praise_v i_o although_o i_o shall_v seem_v to_o have_v do_v great_a wonder_n but_o humble_o i_o do_v thank_v the_o lord_n that_o it_o have_v please_v his_o goodness_n to_o give_v and_o bestow_v upon_o i_o this_o knowledge_n wisdom_n &_o grace_n to_o do_v this_o for_o the_o love_n of_o he_o and_o think_v because_o god_n have_v grant_v i_o the_o grace_n for_o to_o do_v this_o therein_o have_v make_v i_o more_o beholden_a unto_o he_o &_o therefore_o be_o altogether_o unwilling_a that_o any_o shall_v do_v otherwise_o but_o laud_n &_o praise_n god_n for_o it_o and_o as_o concern_v myself_o i_o desire_v nothing_o but_o pain_n and_o travail_v till_o my_o last_o end_n and_o that_o my_o lord_n god_n may_v receive_v thereof_o the_o praise_n and_o thanks_o &_o my_o neighbour_n the_o gain_n and_o profit_n and_o therefore_o i_o desire_v nothing_o for_o all_o my_o do_n because_o i_o know_v that_o i_o meryte_v nor_o deserve_v be_v force_v to_o endure_v and_o sustain_v many_o danger_n peril_n and_o pain_n for_o he_o do_v stumble_v oftentimes_o but_o sincerity_n keep_v he_o from_o fall_v and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o sometime_o fell_a but_o sincerity_n do_v reach_v he_o the_o hand_n and_o help_v he_o up_o again_o and_o sometime_o catch_v such_o fall_n that_o if_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n have_v not_o aid_v he_o it_o again_o oftentimes_o fall_v a_o sleep_n but_o the_o â—eare_z of_o god_n do_v awake_v he_o sometime_o be_v weary_a sit_v down_o and_o rest_v himself_o but_o his_o dog_n goodwill_n do_v not_o hold_v off_o from_o bark_v until_o he_o do_v rise_v again_o sometime_o the_o way_n be_v so_o tedious_a unto_o he_o that_o his_o heart_n begin_v to_o faint_v â—un_v and_o desire_v to_o turn_v back_o again_o but_o as_o soon_o as_o he_o do_v eat_v of_o the_o fruit_n to_o trust_v in_o god_n which_o he_o have_v in_o his_o pocket_n and_o in_o every_o place_n about_o he_o come_v to_o himself_o and_o wax_v strong_a again_o and_o sometime_o go_v by_o night_n lose_v the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o sincerity_n so_o that_o he_o miss_v his_o way_n but_o as_o soon_o as_o the_o day_n appear_v and_o the_o sun_n begin_v to_o shine_v find_v quick_o the_o way_n again_o by_o mean_n of_o his_o dog_n and_o when_o they_o have_v thus_o travail_v certain_a day_n come_v at_o the_o last_o into_o a_o fair_a large_a and_o pleasant_a field_n in_o the_o midst_n whereof_o stand_v a_o princely_a and_o coastly_a palace_n call_v love_n where_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v porter_n the_o third_o part_n of_o the_o treasure_n of_o the_o soul_n of_o love_n &_o charity_n the_o first_o chapter_n do_v entreat_v how_o the_o love_n of_o god_n do_v exercise_n and_o try_v us._n desire_n be_v glad_a when_o he_o see_v so_o fair_a and_o princely_a a_o palace_n &_o find_v by_o experience_n that_o this_o wearisome_a tedious_a and_o troublesome_a way_n have_v so_o good_a &_o pleasant_a a_o issue_n come_v therefore_o present_o at_o the_o gate_n of_o the_o palace_n but_o find_v they_o shut_v close_o begin_v to_o call_v and_o knock_v yet_o notwithstanding_o after_o long_o cry_v and_o knock_v none_o come_v to_o answer_v call_v and_o cry_v aloud_o quoth_v sincerity_n for_o in_o so_o do_v although_o they_o be_v all_o a_o sleep_n or_o half_a deaf_a it_o can_v be_v but_o they_o shall_v hear_v thou_o deserve_v it_o and_o persuade_v himself_o that_o he_o be_v worthy_a of_o it_o and_o that_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n and_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v it_o and_o be_v thou_o none_o of_o those_o fellow_n no_o my_o good_a lord_n quoth_v desire_n for_o although_o i_o have_v suffer_v and_o sustain_v much_o sorrow_n and_o pain_n both_o of_o body_n and_o soul_n yet_o i_o know_v for_o certain_a that_o i_o have_v not_o deserve_v &_o be_o altogether_o unworthye_a to_o enter_v into_o the_o house_n unless_o it_o will_v please_v your_o lord_n ship_n through_o your_o great_a mercy_n &_o goodness_n to_o lead_v and_o although_o it_o lie_v hide_v secret_a win_v the_o heart_n and_o wheresoever_o he_o put_v his_o hand_n upon_o there_o he_o purge_v and_o cleanse_v all_o thing_n wherefore_o say_v the_o love_n of_o god_n do_v thou_o desire_v to_o be_v thus_o clean_o sound_a and_o unspotted_a because_o answer_v desire_n that_o i_o be_v also_o tell_v that_o none_o who_o be_v unclean_a and_o undefiled_a shall_v obedience_n when_o i_o dress_v it_o with_o a_o certain_a sauce_n call_v to_o do_v and_o then_o be_v call_v advance_v not_o to_o do_v and_o the_o fine_a i_o dress_v this_o for_o her_o diet_n the_o more_fw-it friendship_n she_o get_v for_o i_o and_o in_o great_a favour_n she_o bringer_n i_o with_o my_o lord_n and_o say_v much_o good_a of_o i_o unto_o he_o so_o that_o he_o by_o her_o word_n love_v i_o dear_o and_o be_v a_o merciful_a and_o bountiful_a lord_n unto_o i_o this_o foresay_a dish_n namely_o advance_v not_o to_o do_v when_o i_o dress_v it_o with_o another_o sauce_n call_v to_o have_v than_o it_o be_v call_v wish_v or_o advance_v not_o to_o have_v &_o herewithal_o i_o feed_v and_o maintain_v the_o other_o damsel_n call_v poverty_n stay_v a_o while_n quoth_v desire_v why_o shall_v i_o not_o wish_v or_o advance_v myself_o to_o have_v something_o when_o i_o lack_v this_o be_v not_o thus_o to_o be_v understand_v answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n for_o if_o thou_o need_v some_o thing_n thou_o have_v thy_o sovereign_n who_o will_v by_o himself_o or_o by_o his_o commander_n sufficient_o provide_v for_o thou_o without_o thy_o wishinge_v or_o ask_v which_o be_v altogether_o unmannerly_a for_o where_o one_o be_v who_o have_v the_o commandment_n and_o care_n over_o all_o the_o household_n he_o will_v sufficient_o provide_v for_o they_o all_o after_o his_o power_n &_o ability_n &_o as_o it_o become_v his_o duty_n place_n and_o authority_n to_o the_o end_n the_o rest_n shall_v addict_v themselves_o more_o zealous_o to_o the_o service_n of_o god_n and_o to_z the_o contemplation_n of_o heavenly_a and_o spiritual_a thing_n without_o every_o man_n own_o and_o particular_a carefulness_n to_o crave_v ask_v or_o advance_v to_o have_v that_o which_o he_o need_v and_o it_o be_v a_o great_a oversight_n that_o a_o chief_a commander_n of_o any_o place_n shall_v not_o have_v the_o care_n and_o forecast_v to_o provide_v for_o his_o subject_n or_o housh_n olde_v necessity_n without_o their_o ask_n but_o that_o which_o i_o speak_v of_o advance_v demand_v or_o crave_v be_v diverse_o but_o chief_o two_o way_n to_o be_v understode_v first_o when_o they_o provide_v not_o for_o thy_o necessity_n without_o thy_o ask_n or_o crave_v which_o be_v great_o to_o be_v mislike_v discommend_v &_o dispraise_v in_o a_o congregation_n whatsoever_o second_o that_o which_o thou_o need_v thou_o do_v lack_v it_o great_o and_o not_o to_o be_v wilful_a and_o wanton_a orel_n in_o all_o thing_n which_o thou_o can_v desire_v therein_o will_v consist_v curiosity_n superfluity_n and_o tempt_a of_o god_n for_o believe_v i_o that_o under_o the_o cover_n &_o colour_n of_o necessity_n lie_v oftentimes_o hide_v diverse_a and_o many_o sin_n &_o chief_o in_o thing_n belong_v to_o the_o maintenance_n &_o and_o sustenance_n of_o the_o body_n as_o more_z drink_n apparel_n and_o such_o like_a thing_n be_v how_o shall_v i_o know_v quoth_v desire_v whether_o it_o be_v needful_a superfluity_n or_o wantonness_n only_o that_o which_o i_o demand_v or_o crave_v to_o have_v see_v answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n whether_o thou_o can_v forbear_v it_o and_o live_v without_o it_o without_o the_o great_a hindrance_n peril_n and_o danger_n of_o thy_o soul_n and_o body_n but_o if_o thou_o do_v perceive_v that_o it_o shall_v turn_v thou_o to_o such_o peril_n &_o damage_n then_o to_o desire_v nothing_o be_v a_o great_a sin_n and_o madness_n and_o contrary_a to_o god_n commandment_n but_o if_o thou_o can_v forbear_v it_o and_o be_v without_o it_o so_o it_o be_v not_o as_o i_o have_v say_v dangerous_a and_o hurtful_a to_o thy_o health_n although_o somewhat_o painful_a troublesome_a and_o tedious_a to_o thy_o flesh_n then_o to_o desire_v nothing_o be_v a_o great_a virtue_n and_o morthie_a of_o praise_n and_o commendation_n but_o as_o the_o holy_a scripture_n say_v bless_a be_v the_o man_n that_o suffer_v something_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god._n therefore_o if_o thou_o can_v forbear_v it_o without_o the_o hazard_n and_o endanger_n both_o of_o thy_o soul_n and_o body_n then_o to_o crave_v ask_v and_o demand_n esteem_v it_o wantonness_n only_o although_o it_o cover_v itself_o which_o the_o cloak_n of_o necessity_n want_n need_v &_o holiness_n for_o sin_n never_o disclose_v and_o show_v themselves_o hare_n but_o present_v themselves_o always_o under_o the_o colour_n of_o good_a thing_n and_o hereby_o may_v thou_o know_v whether_o it_o be_v necessary_a or_o not_o when_o thou_o crave_v some_o thing_n and_o that_o none_o deceive_v themselves_o in_o their_o own_o opinion_n they_o need_v great_o a_o diligent_a inquisition_n &_o a_o virtuous_a exercise_n and_o if_o they_o be_v destitute_a hereof_o then_o set_v they_o go_v about_o their_o business_n with_o counsel_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n or_o with_o the_o advice_n of_o
a_o goodly_a and_o wise_a man_n who_o will_v instruct_v they_o herein_o the_o fifte_a chapter_n intreat_v of_o the_o two_o other_o intentes_fw-la namely_o of_o desire_n nothing_o and_o remember_v nothing_o seeinge_v i_o have_v now_o disclose_v unto_o thou_o my_o first_o intent_n wherewithal_o i_o maintain_v the_o two_o damosel_n obedience_n and_o povertie_n likewise_o i_o will_v discover_v the_o nature_n and_o property_n of_o other_o namely_o desire_v nothing_o &_o remember_v nothing_o thou_o must_v know_v that_o the_o say_v first_o intent_n to_o wish_v for_o nothing_o grow_v and_o come_v of_o nothing_o but_o from_o a_o desire_n to_o have_v or_o do_v nothing_o and_o when_o the_o cause_n which_o be_v the_o desire_n to_o wish_v for_o be_v take_v away_o and_o root_v out_o than_o his_o force_n and_o effect_n do_v cease_v quick_o which_o be_v to_o ask_v for_o and_o hereby_o be_v make_v that_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o it_o namely_o to_o ask_v nothing_o which_o be_v my_o second_o intent_n wherewithal_o i_o maintain_v dame_n povertie_n but_o thou_o must_v mark_v that_o this_o desire_n be_v understand_v only_o of_o worldly_a and_o earthly_a matter_n but_o because_o this_o herb_n have_v a_o other_o root_n where_o out_o it_o grow_v which_o be_v to_o remember_v for_o nothing_o there_o can_v be_v wish_v for_o which_o be_v not_o before_o remember_v therefore_o make_v much_o of_o this_o three_o intent_n which_o be_v to_o remember_v nothing_o wherewithal_o i_o maintain_v the_o three_o damsel_n call_v chastity_n but_o thou_o must_v understande_v this_o remember_v when_o it_o be_v substantial_a steadfast_a wilful_a and_o spring_v out_o of_o a_o fleshly_a lust_n for_o it_o be_v not_o in_o man_n power_n not_o to_o remember_v nothing_o but_o well_o not_o to_o suffer_v thought_n to_o remain_v and_o cast_v foundation_n in_o he_o but_o to_o turn_v they_o quick_o of_o and_o to_o think_v of_o god_n but_o because_o that_o this_o herb_n remember_v do_v water_n itself_o with_o a_o water_n call_v to_o see_v we_o must_v cast_v upon_o it_o a_o powder_n call_v diligent_o to_o have_v care_n to_o the_o eye_n which_o be_v very_o profitable_a so_o it_o these_o three_o intent_n do_v not_o only_o cleanse_v my_o soul_n of_o all_o worldly_a thing_n as_o selfe-wil_a &_o such_o like_a spot_n but_o they_o breed_v in_o i_o a_o great_a pureness_n &_o promptitude_n to_o love_v my_o lord_n draw_v from_o i_o all_o other_o love_n and_o unite_n i_o altogether_o with_o he_o in_o these_o three_o intent_n i_o have_v comprehend_v all_o the_o other_o godly_a exercise_n serve_v the_o spirit_n as_o well_o of_o humility_n as_o of_o any_o other_o virtue_n because_o i_o know_v that_o the_o perfection_n of_o virtue_n consist_v herein_o think_v not_o therefore_o that_o use_n but_o a_o few_o book_n now_o do_v you_o call_v this_o jewel_n quoth_v desire_n it_o be_v call_v answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n nothing_o at_o all_o for_o this_o be_v the_o great_a treasure_n that_o poverty_n can_v possess_v who_o be_v the_o rich_a lady_n of_o all_o the_o earth_n because_o she_o have_v as_o much_o treasure_n hereof_o as_o she_o will_v herself_o the_o sixth_o chapter_n do_v commandment_n as_o my_o duty_n do_v require_v there_o be_v yet_o another_o circumstance_n to_o be_v consider_v for_o the_o office_n sake_n wherein_o he_o have_v place_v i_o namely_o to_o be_v his_o chamberlain_n which_o be_v whensoever_o i_o come_v to_o serve_v he_o or_o come_v to_o crave_v something_o at_o his_o hand_n or_o but_o only_o to_o speak_v with_o he_o i_o have_v then_o a_o special_a care_n to_o come_v before_o he_o with_o such_o great_a humility_n lowliness_n &_o pureness_n of_o mind_n as_o i_o be_o able_a and_o the_o pure_a and_o clean_a that_o my_o heart_n be_v the_o more_o casie_a i_o see_v behold_v and_o know_v he_o and_o pray_v my_o love_a brother_n the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o my_o aunt_n reverence_n to_o keep_v i_o company_n what_o do_v you_o when_o lady_n reverence_n go_v with_o you_o say_v desire_v then_o i_o remember_v and_o think_v what_o i_o be_o answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o set_v before_o my_o eye_n the_o majesty_n and_o greatness_n of_o my_o lord_n who_o be_v to_o be_v serve_v with_o fear_n and_o reverence_n as_o one_o only_a worthy_a of_o it_o beside_o i_o remember_v that_o all_o angel_n and_o heavenly_a principality_n do_v fall_v down_o before_o he_o worship_n and_o adore_v he_o be_v astonish_v at_o such_o great_a excellent_a and_o incomprehensible_a a_o majesty_n moreover_o i_o conclude_v that_o he_o know_v the_o secret_n of_o my_o bart_n and_o see_v my_o inward_a thought_n better_a than_o i_o myself_o likewise_o that_o he_o can_v according_a unto_o his_o godly_a will_n and_o pleasure_n do_v and_o undoo_v all_o thing_n and_o that_o life_n and_o death_n be_v and_o not_o be_v and_o the_o salvation_n and_o condemnation_n of_o all_o the_o world_n be_v in_o his_o hand_n and_o power_n furthermore_o i_o remember_v that_o he_o be_v the_o fountain_n and_o wellspring_n of_o all_o goodness_n the_o only_a and_o sovereign_n good_a in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o when_o diligent_o i_o put_v in_o mind_n those_o thing_n than_o i_o begin_v to_o shake_v and_o tremble_v than_o my_o heart_n and_o mind_n begin_v to_o alter_v so_o that_o oftentimes_o i_o fall_v in_o a_o sound_n chief_o when_o i_o consider_v that_o i_o be_v so_o wicked_a vile_a unclean_a &_o worse_a than_o any_o dog_n presume_v to_o undertake_v such_o a_o high_a office_n &_o to_o be_v so_o familiar_a with_o such_o a_o mighty_a lord_n &_o that_o such_o a_o renown_a majesty_n will_v vouchsafe_v to_o delight_v in_o my_o vile_a company_n &_o suffer_v i_o to_o speak_v &_o eat_v with_o he_o as_o his_o familiar_a and_o only_a friend_n and_o oftentimes_o myself_o do_v tell_v he_o of_o it_o say_v wherefore_o do_v thou_o suffer_v o_o my_o god_n these_o vile_a &_o unclean_a sinner_n to_o stand_v before_o thou_o how_o my_o lord_n be_v it_o decent_a that_o thou_o shall_v be_v serve_v of_o such_o wretch_n &_o wicked_a offender_n as_o we_o be_v where_o be_v the_o honour_n and_o reverence_v due_a to_o thy_o princely_a majesty_n but_o what_o answer_n do_v he_o give_v you_o quoth_v desire_n i_o can_v tell_v answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n but_o only_o that_o for_o very_a joy_n he_o make_v i_o to_o weep_v and_o say_v do_v not_o trouble_v thyself_o herewithal_o for_o thou_o have_v not_o procure_v thou_o the_o office_n &_o have_v not_o place_v thyself_o in_o it_o but_o i_o have_v call_v thou_o unto_o it_o and_o i_o know_v wherefore_o i_o have_v do_v it_o but_o be_v thou_o careful_a to_o look_v to_o thy_o call_n and_o that_o which_o thy_o office_n do_v require_v &_o demand_v endeavour_n thyself_o diligent_o to_o further_a and_o perform_v it_o what_o do_v you_o say_v unto_o he_o quoth_v desire_n when_o you_o come_v before_o he_o accompanied_z with_o humility_n charity_n fear_v and_o reverence_n first_o of_o all_o quoth_v the_o love_n of_o god_n when_o i_o crave_v something_o at_o his_o hand_n and_o will_v move_v he_o to_o grant_v i_o my_o request_n than_o i_o endeavour_n with_o all_o my_o force_n and_o power_n to_o exalte_n and_o praise_v he_o and_o cease_v not_o for_o to_o give_v he_o thanks_n for_o all_o his_o benefit_n which_o i_o have_v receive_v for_o i_o know_v that_o this_o be_v acceptable_a &_o pleasant_a in_o his_o sight_n and_o whensoever_o i_o go_v about_o to_o praise_v he_o than_o i_o rehearse_v all_o the_o wondrous_a work_n which_o he_o have_v do_v recreate_v and_o delight_v myself_o therein_o great_o this_o my_o back_n and_o not_o my_o face_n therefore_o i_o think_v and_o persuade_v myself_o that_o he_o always_o see_v i_o and_o never_o turn_v his_o eye_n from_o i_o for_o to_o mark_v what_o i_o say_v unto_o he_o whereby_o do_v you_o know_v qd_n desire_v that_o you_o do_v that_o which_o be_v pleasant_a in_o his_o sight_n by_o two_o thing_n answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n the_o one_o be_v to_o love_v that_o which_o he_o love_v and_o the_o other_o to_o hate_v that_o which_o he_o hate_v as_o concern_v the_o first_o to_o love_v that_o which_o he_o leve_v thereby_o i_o love_v my_o lord_n only_a son_n who_o be_v the_o fair_a gentle_a and_o most_o worthy_a that_o ever_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v be_v like_a unto_o his_o father_n in_o all_o thing_n and_o yet_o the_o most_o obedient_a that_o be_v or_o ever_o shall_v be_v this_o son_n be_v love_v as_o much_o as_o hun_z self_n because_o he_o be_v more_o like_a unto_o he_o than_o ever_o son_n be_v unto_o his_o father_n and_o the_o unity_n and_o love_n between_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n be_v so_o exceed_v great_a that_o they_o be_v both_o one_o of_o one_o will_n force_n power_n wisdom_n &_o majesty_n and_o although_o they_o be_v distinguish_v in_o person_n be_v notwithstanding_o but_o of_o one_o substance_n and_o essence_n my_o lord_n do_v make_v with_o his_o own_o hand_n for_o this_o his_o son_n a_o shepherd_n garment_n wherewithal_o be_v clothe_v come_v out_o of_o his_o father_n chamber_n yet_o never_o be_v from_o he_o but_o always_o with_o he_o and_o be_v daily_o conversant_a with_o we_o in_o this_o house_n for_o otherwise_o we_o can_v not_o see_v nor_o know_v he_o and_o thus_o apparel_v his_o father_n send_v he_o with_o a_o basket_n at_o his_o arm_n through_o the_o whole_a world_n &_o likewise_o through_o this_o wilderness_n to_o seek_v out_o his_o sheep_n that_o be_v lose_v and_o run_v astray_o and_o as_o he_o be_v walk_a through_o the_o desert_n his_o father_n suffer_v he_o to_o be_v slay_v by_o the_o wolf_n and_o devour_v by_o dog_n and_o in_o no_o wise_a will_v come_v to_o aid_v or_o assist_v he_o although_o he_o be_v able_a enough_o to_o have_v do_v it_o but_o his_o will_n be_v that_o the_o wolf_n shall_v tear_v he_o in_o piece_n and_o put_v he_o to_o the_o most_o cruel_a death_n that_o can_v be_v invent_v or_o imagine_v and_o shall_v use_v he_o the_o worse_a because_o he_o be_v a_o king_n son_n and_o this_o do_v our_o lord_n for_o mere_a love_n which_o he_o bear_v we_o because_o that_o all_o they_o which_o be_v of_o his_o household_n may_v perceive_v and_o see_v how_o dear_o he_o love_v we_o in_o that_o he_o have_v not_o spare_v his_o own_o son_n but_o have_v give_v he_o in_o sacrifice_n for_o we_o therefore_o be_v we_o bind_v to_o love_v he_o also_o because_o he_o love_v we_o so_o much_o before_o when_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v tell_v this_o desire_v weep_v bitter_o so_o that_o his_o hart_n seem_v to_o break_v in_o piece_n the_o father_n love_v the_o son_n so_o much_o say_v the_o love_n of_o god_n that_o although_o he_o suffer_v he_o to_o be_v put_v to_o death_n yet_o through_o his_o omnipotency_n do_v soon_o raise_v he_o up_o again_o from_o the_o dead_z with_o more_o glozie_n and_o triumph_v they_o ever_o before_o carrying_z with_o he_o those_o sheep_n for_o who_o bee_n be_v come_v have_v a_o special_a care_n over_o those_o who_o he_o have_v yet_o leave_v in_o the_o desert_n and_o pasture_n to_o wax_v fat_a and_o thus_o he_o return_v into_o his_o father_n chamber_n where_o he_o now_o sit_v at_o his_o right_a hand_n make_v daily_a intercession_n for_o we_o and_o excuse_v our_o infirmity_n for_o the_o unspeakable_a love_n which_o he_o bear_v unto_o mankind_n &_o i_o believe_v that_o if_o it_o be_v not_o for_o his_o sake_n the_o lord_n will_v have_v cast_v we_o long_o ago_o out_o of_o this_o house_n for_o our_o great_a wickedness_n sake_n because_o we_o serve_v he_o so_o negligent_o without_o any_o zeal_n or_o affection_n and_o so_o high_o do_v forget_v he_o &_o put_v he_o out_o of_o mind_n for_o every_o trifle_n and_o small_a occasion_n the_o father_n love_v his_o son_n so_o dear_o that_o i_o believe_v not_o that_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n in_o this_o world_n wherewith_o we_o can_v do_v he_o better_o service_n then_o in_o love_v of_o his_o son_n therefore_o i_o endeavour_n myself_o to_o love_n &_o please_v his_o son_n wherein_o quoth_v desire_n do_v you_o love_v and_o please_v he_o when_o ay_o answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n remember_v his_o holy_a life_n his_o exceed_a great_a travail_n his_o death_n &_o his_o bless_a doctrine_n &_o endeavour_n to_o comform_v &_o frame_v my_o action_n and_o manner_n unto_o his_o life_n for_o when_o my_o lord_n do_v see_v one_o resemble_v the_o life_n of_o his_o son_n so_o much_o the_o more_o do_v he_o love_v he_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v his_o will_n that_o he_o shall_v come_v to_o visit_v we_o dwell_v with_o we_o and_o teach_v we_o how_o we_o shall_v live_v for_o we_o live_v before_o even_o as_o beast_n and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n do_v send_v he_o unto_o we_o in_o steed_n of_o a_o mirror_n and_o look_v glass_n that_o all_o man_n who_o be_v desirous_a to_o know_v whether_o their_o will_n or_o action_n be_v bad_a or_o good_a shall_v behold_v his_o son_n life_n for_o in_o the_o world_n there_o be_v no_o sure_a &_o better_o touchstone_n than_o it_o the_o second_o who_o my_o lord_n love_v be_v my_o page_n call_v neighbourly_a love_n for_o he_o love_v this_o lad_n so_o tender_o that_o all_o that_o we_o do_v unto_o he_o whether_o it_o be_v good_a or_o evil_n he_o do_v take_v it_o as_o it_o be_v do_v unto_o his_o own_o person_n in_o what_o love_n you_o this_o boy_n quoth_v desire_n first_o ol_n all_o i_o esteem_v he_o to_o be_v better_a than_o myself_o and_o although_o i_o do_v supply_v a_o great_a and_o high_a office_n yet_o be_o obedient_a unto_o he_o in_o all_o lawful_a &_o good_a thing_n i_o take_v heed_n in_o no_o wise_a to_o hinder_v or_o endamage_v any_o man_n for_o to_o do_v it_o i_o wish_v that_o he_o shall_v exceed_v i_o in_o love_n which_o i_o bear_v to_o god_n and_o that_o it_o will_v please_v almighty_a god_n to_o make_v he_o better_o than_o myself_o i_o in_o no_o wise_a ennie_n his_o temporal_a or_o spiritual_a blessing_n or_o any_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o he_o but_o rejoice_v in_o his_o prosperity_n and_o welfare_n his_o and_o this_o do_v i_o because_o my_o lord_n love_v he_o so_o deore_o i_o love_v also_o the_o affair_n of_o the_o common_a wealth_n have_v a_o special_a care_n over_o they_o because_o they_o
appertain_v to_o the_o service_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o his_o honour_n and_o to_o the_o maintenance_n of_o his_o house_n therefore_o i_o do_v my_o endeavour_n that_o nothing_o be_v neglect_v chief_o which_o concern_v any_o godly_a exercise_n as_o be_v read_v fast_a chasten_v of_o the_o flesh_n and_o such_o like_a although_o some_o do_v but_o little_a esteem_n of_o these_o thing_n further_o i_o remember_v that_o i_o know_v he_o better_o than_o any_o other_o creature_n because_o i_o have_v receyve_v more_o at_o his_o hand_n then_o any_o and_o see_v that_o other_o servant_n serve_v their_o earthly_a master_n with_o great_a attendance_n and_o diligence_n why_o shall_v i_o not_o serve_v my_o lord_n who_o have_v choose_v â—â—â—e_a to_o be_v his_o chamberlain_n above_o any_o domestical_a servant_n and_o although_o all_o the_o world_n shall_v fail_v and_o there_o shall_v none_o be_v remain_v yet_o i_o will_v never_o be_v unfaithful_a unto_o he_o till_o death_n the_o nine_o chapter_n intreat_v of_o those_o thing_n which_o the_o love_n of_o god_n have_v anâ—_n of_o the_o conclusion_n the_o other_o of_o these_o two_o thing_n whereof_o i_o have_v speak_v unto_o thou_o and_o wherewith_o i_o seek_v to_o please_v my_o lord_n be_v to_o hate_v yâ—_z which_o he_o hate_v therefore_o i_o set_v before_o i_o that_o my_o lord_n have_v two_o enemy_n the_o one_o the_o world_n the_o other_o my_o flesh_n therefore_o i_o have_v determine_v with_o myself_o to_o hate_v they_o mortal_o &_o never_o to_o contracte_v any_o league_n with_o they_o &_o because_o i_o may_v the_o stedfaster_n remain_v in_o my_o determination_n i_o use_v these_o mean_n never_o to_o recreate_v myself_o with_o they_o to_o speak_v or_o frequent_v their_o company_n unless_n my_o lord_n do_v command_v it_o i_o who_o commandment_n i_o esreene_v more_o than_o my_o determination_n and_o therefore_o i_o have_v desire_v the_o lieutenant_n of_o the_o house_n that_o be_v send_v i_o not_o about_o such_o business_n whereby_o i_o may_v recreatemy_n self_n as_o in_o town_n city_n country_n or_o among_o people_n for_o i_o esteem_v this_o a_o great_a contempt_n and_o despise_v but_o when_o i_o be_o command_v than_o i_o obey_v and_o although_o my_o lord_n for_o certain_a affair_n command_v i_o to_o go_v into_o the_o world_n yet_o his_o will_n be_v that_o i_o in_o go_v shall_v not_o loiter_v and_o in_o return_v shall_v be_v find_v faithful_a unto_o he_o and_o in_o no_o wise_a shall_v use_v any_o falsehood_n practise_v treason_n against_o he_o but_o shall_v withdraw_v myself_o as_o soon_o as_o it_o be_v possible_a &_o come_v again_o for_o i_o know_v certain_o that_o how_o narrow_o we_o look_v to_o ourselves_o and_o as_o much_o good_a as_o we_o can_v do_v yet_o we_o be_v like_a to_o get_v there_o nothing_o but_o be_v always_o in_o danger_n to_o loose_a much_o in_o this_o sort_n i_o hate_v like_o my_o sin_n iniquity_n uncleanness_n carnal_a motion_n week_n desire_n and_o unnatural_a passion_n and_o be_o vetie_a pensive_a and_o sorrowful_a that_o they_o dwell_v within_o i_o know_v that_o they_o be_v contrary_a to_o my_o lord_n will_v &_o do_v altogether_o displease_v he_o therefore_o i_o endeavour_n myself_o always_o to_o amend_v through_o love_n like_o wise_a for_o the_o love_n of_o he_o i_o eschew_v and_o fly_v from_o all_o those_o that_o be_v in_o his_o house_n except_o it_o be_v in_o thing_n of_o necessity_n and_o love_n withdraw_v myself_o altogether_o from_o they_o wherefore_o do_v you_o so_o quoth_v desire_n because_o now_o a_o day_n there_o be_v no_o spiritual_a prayer_n love_n and_o goodly_a zeal_n practise_v and_o exercise_v and_o those_o that_o boast_v of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n common_o decay_v in_o slothfulness_n therefore_o i_o will_v accustom_v myself_o to_o be_v alone_o and_o addict_v myself_o to_o prayer_n that_o my_o soul_n may_v receine_v and_o feel_v some_o comfort_n and_o joy_n in_o the_o lord_n and_o i_o learn_v to_o love_v he_o as_o it_o become_v i_o for_o to_o that_o intent_n i_o have_v forsake_v the_o world_n and_o all_o the_o vanity_n thereof_o but_o quoth_v desire_v other_o will_v account_v you_o fantastical_a &_o partial_a and_o every_o man_n will_v cast_v his_o eye_n upon_o you_o it_o be_v no_o matter_n answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n for_o i_o shall_v not_o serve_v to_o please_v man_n and_o chief_o in_o thing_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o god_n and_o when_o i_o give_v no_o offence_n to_o my_o brother_n i_o care_v not_o what_o the_o world_n speak_v so_o i_o do_v my_o duty_n in_o that_o which_o be_v command_v i_o and_o chief_o at_o the_o first_o fall_v somewhat_o hard_a &_o uneasy_a to_o be_v swallow_v this_o fruit_n quoth_v he_o to_o desire_n god_n be_v marvelous_a sweet_a and_o pleasant_a but_o to_o some_o more_o sweet_a and_o of_o pleasant_a taste_n than_o to_o other_o which_o happen_v after_o the_o good_a appetite_n and_o stomach_n that_o they_o have_v and_o the_o sound_a that_o their_o taste_n be_v and_o their_o tooth_n the_o better_a thereafter_o they_o find_v this_o fruit_n the_o sweet_a and_o more_o pleasant_a for_o some_o there_o be_v who_o have_v rot_a tooth_n &_o to_o those_o this_o other_o meat_n and_o to_o those_o likewise_o it_o be_v unpleasant_a because_o they_o can_v well_o digeste_v it_o although_o it_o do_v they_o but_o sinal_a hurt_n and_o some_o there_o be_v who_o taste_n be_v mar_v through_o a_o fever_n or_o a_o unnatural_a heat_n and_o these_o know_v nothing_o of_o this_o fruit_n but_o only_o by_o hear_v say_v i_o pray_v you_o qd_n desire_v let_v i_o taste_v of_o this_o fruit_n i_o be_o glad_a answer_v to_o desire_v gâ—d_v be_v thou_o willing_a to_o taste_v of_o it_o for_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o we_o during_o this_o life_n shall_v satisfy_v ourselves_o or_o sil_fw-fr our_o belly_n with_o it_o but_o only_o taste_v how_o sweet_a and_o pleasant_a it_o be_v wherefore_o quoth_v desire_n therefore_o answer_v to_o desire_n god_n for_o if_o they_o will_v go_v always_o with_o thou_o and_o never_o forsake_v thou_o unless_o thyself_o bear_v they_o away_o and_o do_v misuse_v they_o for_o they_o themselves_o be_v wondrous_a desirous_a of_o that_o they_o shall_v command_v thou_o answer_v to_o desire_v god_n and_o when_o i_o shall_v not_o be_v command_v at_o all_o say_v desire_n what_o shall_v i_o do_v then_o sing_v answer_v to_o desire_n god_n praise_n thank_v &_o magnify_v the_o lord_n and_o whensoever_o thou_o art_n about_o thy_o business_n &_o do_v that_o be_v command_v unto_o then_o them_z thou_o may_v yet_o sing_v to_o thyself_o choose_v those_o for_o his_o service_n who_o be_v the_o abject_n of_o that_o world_n to_o the_o end_n that_o no_o body_n who_o dwell_v here_o shall_v think_v he_o to_o be_v receyve_v and_o entertain_v for_o his_o desert_n &_o worthiness_n but_o only_o through_o the_o goodness_n and_o mere_a mercy_n of_o god_n therefore_o if_o thou_o be_v willing_a for_o to_o dwell_v here_o and_o desirous_a not_o to_o loose_v but_o to_o profit_n &_o further_o thyself_o and_o procure_v that_o thy_o song_n be_v acceptable_a unto_o god_n remember_v these_o four_o part_n the_o first_o be_v goodwill_n the_o second_o humility_n that_o third_z patience_n the_o four_o love_n or_o charity_n and_o whensoever_o thou_o sing_v with_o these_o four_o part_n thou_o shall_v never_o fail_v in_o thy_o song_n and_o
