such_o person_n that_o see_v their_o misery_n by_o reas_fw-la on_o of_o their_o apostasy_n and_o the_o want_n of_o perfect_a righteousness_n in_o themselves_o that_o fly_n to_o christ_n 3._o you_o must_v consider_v the_o greatness_n power_n holiness_n justice_n and_o righteousness_n of_o god_n as_o well_o as_o his_o mercy_n and_o goodness_n sinner_n they_o meditate_v on_o his_o mercy_n and_o goodness_n and_o they_o forget_v his_o justice_n his_o wisdom_n his_o power_n and_o his_o faithfulness_n they_o do_v consider_v that_o god_n be_v a_o faithful_a god_n but_o they_o think_v if_o they_o one_o into_o his_o bosom_n that_o be_v unclean_a and_o impure_a ii_o this_o bring_v i_o to_o show_v you_o what_o justification_n be_v and_o 1._o to_o justify_v do_v not_o here_o intend_v to_o declare_v a_o person_n innocent_a or_o that_o he_o have_v never_o sin_v or_o be_v not_o guilty_a of_o the_o fact_n that_o be_v not_o the_o meaning_n of_o it_o as_o you_o may_v see_v rom._n 4.5_o but_o to_o he_o that_o work_v not_o but_o believe_v on_o he_o that_o justifi_v the_o ungodly_a etc._n etc._n or_o that_o defend_v the_o ungodly_a it_o be_v not_o to_o make_v the_o person_n faultless_a for_o and_o without_o inherent_a sin_n 2._o neither_o be_v justification_n a_o mere_a and_o bare_a pardon_n and_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n 3._o consider_v none_o but_o such_o person_n who_o be_v inherent_o just_a or_o make_v just_o can_v be_v justify_v if_o god_n be_v say_v to_o justify_v the_o ungodly_a it_o be_v because_o they_o be_v make_v just_o though_o they_o be_v not_o just_a in_o themselves_o the_o lord_n have_v receive_v satisfaction_n by_o the_o death_n of_o the_o mediator_n by_o the_o death_n of_o our_o trustee_n who_o stand_v our_o room_n and_o bear_v our_o sin_n in_o his_o own_o body_n on_o the_o tree_n now_o this_o will_v reflect_v on_o his_o justice_n if_o he_o do_v not_o set_v the_o sinner_n free_a for_o who_o he_o have_v receive_v satisfaction_n so_o that_o it_o be_v just_a with_o god_n to_o forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n i._n e._n he_o approve_v himself_o just_a in_o forgive_a our_o sin_n but_o 3._o remission_n of_o sin_n do_v not_o make_v a_o man_n who_o be_v guilty_a to_o become_v guiltless_a i_o say_v remission_n of_o sin_n in_o respect_n to_o pardon_n so_o consider_v do_v not_o make_v a_o man_n who_o be_v guilty_a to_o become_v guiltless_a a_o thief_n though_o pardon_v be_v a_o thief_n still_o forgiveness_n discharge_v only_o from_o penalty_n 4._o the_o suffer_v the_o penalty_n do_v not_o make_v he_o that_o be_v unjust_a to_o become_v just_o therefore_o thou_o will_v not_o be_v just_o nor_o justify_v though_o thou_o do_v suffer_v the_o penalty_n a_o thief_n burn_v in_o the_o hand_n be_v a_o thief_n still_o though_o he_o have_v suffer_v betwixt_o god_n and_o we_o but_o the_o contrary_a i_o shall_v now_o prove_v namely_o that_o christ_n suffer_v as_o our_o head_n representative_a and_o surety_n first_o we_o must_v prove_v that_o he_o become_v our_o surety_n second_o that_o he_o die_v in_o our_o stead_n place_n and_o room_n and_o these_o two_o will_v magnify_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o our_o justification_n and_o 1._o consider_v god_n he_o be_v just_a so_o well_o as_o gracious_a and_o his_o justice_n require_v satisfaction_n now_o some_o man_n among_o we_o will_v be_v pardon_v but_o not_o justify_v they_o will_v have_v life_n in_o a_o way_n of_o mercy_n but_o not_o in_o a_o way_n of_o righteousness_n they_o will_v have_v their_o debt_n pardon_v and_o forgive_v but_o they_o will_v not_o have_v their_o debt_n pay_v in_o a_o word_n they_o will_v come_v to_o heaven_n but_o not_o by_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n blood_n though_o they_o may_v pretend_v they_o believe_v no_o come_n there_o but_o by_o his_o merit_n yet_o they_o understand_v it_o in_o a_o remote_a sâ—â—ce_n they_o will_v i_o say_v attain_v eternal_a glory_n and_o a_o deliverance_n from_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v hurtful_a to_o they_o but_o this_o they_o will_v not_o have_v to_o run_v in_o the_o channel_n of_o christ_n obedience_n and_o righteousness_n but_o in_o the_o channel_n of_o their_o own_o obedience_n but_o 2._o consider_v that_o as_o god_n be_v just_o so_o well_o as_o gracious_a therefore_o our_o debt_n must_v must_v be_v pay_v so_o well_o as_o pardon_v or_o we_o can_v be_v justify_v and_o consider_v christ_n be_v call_v a_o surety_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n vide_fw-la heb._n 7.22_o there_o our_o saviour_n be_v call_v the_o surety_n of_o a_o better_a covenant_n by_o so_o much_o be_v jesus_n make_v a_o surety_n of_o a_o better_a testament_n i._n e._n covenant_n belove_a a_o surety_n be_v one_o that_o undertake_v or_o engage_v to_o satisfy_v for_o another_o it_o signify_v to_o strike_v hand_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o another_o and_o 1._o for_o one_o who_o credit_n be_v go_v or_o who_o credit_n be_v suspect_v as_o be_v not_o good_a therefore_o a_o surety_n stand_v in_o his_o place_n and_z strikes_z hand_n with_o the_o creditor_n thus_o do_v the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n strike_v hand_n with_o the_o father_n and_o become_v our_o surety_n that_o he_o may_v stand_v paymaster_n for_o we_o and_o in_o our_o room_n and_o stead_n god_n the_o father_n foresee_v that_o the_o creature_n that_o he_o will_v make_v will_v fall_v and_o fore-designed_n to_o leave_v he_o to_o the_o liberty_n of_o god_n so_o well_o as_o justice_n that_o he_o may_v magnify_v his_o mercy_n and_o not_o wrong_v his_o justice_n and_o that_o his_o justice_n may_v be_v satisfy_v and_o his_o mercy_n not_o impeach_v do_v enter_v into_o a_o covenant_n with_o his_o own_o son_n his_o eternal_a son_n and_o his_o son_n strike_v hand_n with_o he_o on_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o sinner_n who_o credit_n god_n foresee_v as_o lose_v etc._n etc._n 2._o a_o surety_n be_v to_o give_v stability_n and_o security_n in_o case_n of_o bond_n and_o covenant_n not_o only_o because_o man_n have_v plunge_v himself_o under_o god_n wrath_n therefore_o christ_n shake_v hand_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o sinner_n who_o credit_n be_v go_v to_o deliver_v he_o from_o wrath_n but_o christ_n strike_v hand_n with_o the_o father_n and_o set_v his_o hand_n to_o the_o sinner_n bond_n and_o become_v oblige_v to_o keep_v the_o covenant_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o sinner_n christ_n set_v his_o hand_n to_o the_o covenant_n to_o keep_v it_o for_o the_o sinner_n god_n foresee_v the_o breach_n of_o this_o covenant_n on_o our_o side_n and_o do_v therefore_o enter_v into_o a_o covenant_n with_o his_o son_n and_o the_o son_n strike_v hand_n with_o the_o father_n that_o he_o will_v keep_v the_o covenant_n for_o man._n 3._o a_o surety_n dâ—th_v not_o only_o undertake_v for_o debt_n but_o sometime_o for_o criminal_n sometime_o person_n be_v bind_v as_o surety_n body_n for_o body_n and_o life_n for_o life_n and_o this_o be_v a_o common_a thing_n in_o some_o countâ—eys_n now_o jesus_n christ_n do_v not_o only_o become_v surety_n to_o pay_v our_o debt_n as_o we_o be_v debtor_n but_o he_o become_v our_o surety_n as_o we_o be_v criminal_n and_o traitor_n also_o and_o so_o be_v bind_v body_n for_o body_n soul_n for_o soul_n life_n for_o life_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o sinner_n 4._o if_o the_o party_n which_o the_o surety_n engage_v for_o fail_v the_o surety_n be_v then_o to_o make_v a_o full_a compensation_n and_o pay_v the_o debt_n and_o die_v for_o the_o criminal_a thus_o it_o be_v here_o we_o do_v fail_v and_o be_v not_o able_a to_o pay_v our_o own_o debt_n and_o because_o we_o have_v heinous_o break_v the_o holy_a law_n of_o god_n and_o despise_v the_o lawgiver_n and_o contemn_a and_o trample_v under_o our_o foot_n his_o royal_a authority_n we_o become_v traitor_n to_o the_o divine_a majesty_n and_o jesus_n christ_n he_o do_v not_o only_o become_v paymaster_n of_o our_o debt_n but_o do_v die_v in_o our_o room_n and_o his_o life_n be_v take_v for_o we_o 5._o a_o surety_n our_o use_n and_o advantage_n 4._o it_o be_v call_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n because_o it_o be_v a_o righteousness_n approve_v and_o accept_v as_o well_o as_o appoint_v by_o the_o holy_a god_n god_n the_o father_n have_v accept_v this_o righteousness_n he_o be_v full_o satisfy_v with_o it_o he_o be_v well_o please_v with_o his_o son_n jesus_n christ_n i.e._n in_o his_o obedience_n and_o conformity_n to_o his_o will_n therefore_o it_o be_v call_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n because_o it_o be_v a_o righteousness_n that_o please_v god_n and_o that_o god_n accept_v of_o for_o the_o good_a of_o we_o and_o in_o the_o behalf_n of_o we_o but_o further_o to_o prove_v the_o three_o thing_n viz._n that_o the_o material_a cause_n of_o our_o justification_n be_v that_o righteousness_n by_o which_o christ_n do_v full_o and_o complete_o answer_v the_o demand_n of_o justice_n to_o every_o jot_n that_o it_o be_v this_o righteousness_n and_o not_o inherent_a righteousness_n how_o do_v you_o prove_v that_o say_v some_o that_o it_o be_v not_o inherent_a righteousness_n why_o if_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o inherent_a righteousness_n than_o it_o will_v follow_v 1._o that_o the_o formal_a cause_n of_o our_o justification_n be_v by_o infuse_v a_o righteousness_n and_o not_o by_o imputation_n it_o will_v follow_v then_o that_o a_o righteousness_n implant_v in_o we_o and_o not_o impute_v to_o we_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o our_o justification_n 2._o it_o will_v then_o follow_v that_o if_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o grace_n inherent_a it_o will_v be_v by_o a_o complication_n of_o grace_n and_o not_o by_o faith_n only_o which_o will_v antiquate_v that_o text_n rom._n 4.5_o but_o to_o he_o that_o work_v not_o but_o believe_v on_o he_o that_o justifi_v the_o ungodly_a his_o faith_n be_v count_v for_o righteousness_n but_o this_o will_v be_v i_o say_v not_o only_a faith_n but_o the_o grace_n of_o love_n and_o the_o grace_n of_o humility_n and_o the_o grace_n of_o long_o suffer_v the_o grace_n of_o meekness_n and_o temperance_n together_o with_o the_o grace_n of_o faith_n 3._o if_o it_o be_v by_o a_o righteousness_n inherent_a in_o we_o than_o it_o will_v follow_v that_o faith_n will_v not_o be_v impute_v or_o account_v to_o we_o for_o righteousness_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o object_n jesus_n christ_n but_o faith_n will_v be_v account_v to_o we_o for_o righteousness_n as_o a_o holy_a act_n or_o divine_a grace_n in_o we_o together_o with_o other_o grace_n 4._o if_o it_o be_v by_o a_o righteousness_n inherent_a then_o also_o it_o will_v follow_v that_o work_n may_v as_o well_o be_v say_v to_o be_v our_o actual_a righteousness_n to_o justification_n as_o inherent_a grace_n how_o
