break_v not_o friendship_n be_v not_o against_o the_o law_n but_o not_o according_a to_o the_o law_n because_o it_o be_v not_o against_o charity_n but_o not_o according_a to_o charity_n take_v a_o example_n to_o steal_v a_o great_a quantity_n of_o money_n be_v a_o mortal_a sin_n because_o it_o be_v against_o the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v in_o a_o matter_n of_o weight_n and_o in_o the_o judgement_n of_o most_o man_n sufficient_a to_o break_v friendship_n and_o so_o be_v against_o charity_n but_o to_o steal_v a_o farthing_n or_o a_o pin_n or_o a_o like_a thing_n be_v not_o a_o mortal_a sin_n but_o a_o venial_a because_o it_o be_v in_o a_o small_a matter_n which_o although_o it_o be_v not_o according_a to_o charity_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o against_o charity_n because_o it_o be_v not_o a_o thing_n that_o in_o reason_n can_v break_v friendship_n in_o like_a manner_n we_o may_v say_v of_o be_v voluntary_a for_o when_o a_o thing_n be_v against_o the_o law_n in_o a_o matter_n of_o weight_n and_o full_o voluntary_a it_o be_v a_o mortal_a sin_n but_o if_o it_o be_v not_o full_o voluntary_a as_o if_o one_o have_v a_o thought_n or_o a_o sudden_a desire_n to_o steal_v or_o to_o kill_v or_o to_o blaspheme_v and_o present_o perceive_v his_o error_n before_o he_o full_o consent_v with_o his_o will_n it_o be_v only_o a_o venial_a sin_n therefore_o a_o man_n must_v stand_v upon_o a_o above_o he_o nor_o equal_a with_o he_o the_o sin_n which_o it_o produce_v be_v vain_a glory_n and_o vaunt_v of_o himself_o contend_v with_o other_o discord_n disobedience_n and_o the_o like_a whereupon_o it_o be_v write_v that_o god_n resist_v proud_a man_n and_o bow_v himself_o to_o humble_a man_n he_o confound_v the_o proud_a and_o exalt_v the_o humble_a s_o what_o be_v covetousness_n that_o the_o most_o strong_a samson_n the_o most_o holy_a david_n and_o the_o most_o wise_a solomon_n be_v deceive_v with_o this_o vice_n and_o fall_v into_o great_a blindness_n of_o mind_n &_o chief_o solomon_n who_o be_v bring_v to_o adore_v all_o the_o idol_n of_o his_o concubine_n saint_n what_o be_v envy_n what_o sin_n do_v come_v of_o it_o &_o what_o remedy_n be_v there_o against_o whatsoever_o more_o than_o god_n or_o equal_a with_o god_n and_o much_o more_o do_v they_o sin_v that_o hate_n god_n final_o whosoever_o adore_v god_n with_o great_a reverence_n as_o the_o virtue_n of_o religion_n teach_v we_o take_v god_n for_o god_n for_o he_o take_v he_o for_o the_o first_o beginning_n and_o author_n of_o all_o thing_n and_o in_o this_o point_n they_o offend_v that_o bear_v small_a respect_n to_o god_n and_o to_o thing_n consecrate_v unto_o he_o as_o church_n hallow_a vessel_n priest_n and_o the_o like_a and_o those_o also_o that_o honour_n man_n equal_o with_o god_n or_o more_o than_o god_n s_o declare_v i_o pray_v you_o the_o second_o part_n of_o this_o commandment_n m_o in_o the_o second_o part_n god_n will_v and_o command_v that_o we_o take_v no_o create_a thing_n for_o god_n and_o in_o this_o the_o gentile_n offend_v in_o old_a time_n who_o not_o know_v the_o true_a god_n do_v take_v and_o adore_v for_o god_n diverse_a creature_n as_o the_o sun_n the_o moon_n or_o some_o dead_a man_n in_o the_o same_o enchanter_n &_o witch_n offend_v and_o all_o sorcerer_n negromancer_n and_o soothsayer_n who_o give_v to_o the_o devil_n of_o hell_n that_o honour_n which_o be_v due_a only_a to_o god_n &_o some_o of_o they_o take_v he_o and_o adore_v he_o for_o their_o god_n and_o think_v by_o his_o mean_n to_o foretell_v thing_n to_o come_v or_o to_o find_v treasure_n or_o to_o attain_v unto_o other_o their_o dishonest_a desire_n for_o the_o devil_n be_v deadly_a enemy_n to_o all_o mankind_n deceive_v often_o this_o poor_a sort_n of_o people_n and_o with_o vain_a hope_n cause_v they_o to_o commit_v many_o sin_n &_o in_o the_o end_n to_o loose_v their_o soul_n and_o many_o time_n their_o body_n also_o s_o declare_v to_o i_o the_o three_o part_n m_o in_o the_o three_o part_n god_n do_v command_v that_o not_o only_o we_o take_v not_o the_o thing_n create_v by_o he_o for_o god_n as_o have_v be_v say_v but_o that_o much_o less_o we_o make_v to_o ourselves_o any_o thing_n to_o take_v it_o &_o adore_v it_o for_o god_n wherein_o the_o gentile_n offend_v who_o be_v so_o blind_a that_o they_o make_v idol_n to_o wit_n statue_n of_o gold_n or_o of_o silver_n or_o of_o wood_n or_o of_o stone_n and_o make_v it_o be_v think_v that_o they_o be_v god_n chief_o because_o the_o devil_n sometime_o enter_v into_o they_o and_o cause_v they_o to_o speak_v or_o to_o move_v themselves_o &_o so_o they_o sacrifice_v unto_o they_o and_o adore_v they_o and_o because_o the_o holy_a martyr_n will_v not_o in_o any_o wise_a do_v the_o same_o they_o put_v they_o to_o death_n with_o most_o cruel_a torment_n s_o be_v there_o any_o thing_n else_o in_o this_o commandment_n m_o there_o be_v annex_v by_o god_n a_o terrible_a threaten_n to_o those_o that_o do_v contrary_a to_o this_o commandment_n &_o a_o great_a promise_n to_o those_o that_o observe_v it_o for_o after_o the_o give_v of_o the_o commandment_n god_n speak_v those_o word_n i_o be_o a_o jealous_a god_n who_o punish_v not_o only_o those_o that_o love_v i_o not_o but_o their_o posterity_n also_o unto_o the_o four_o generation_n and_o show_v mercy_n to_o those_o that_o love_v i_o unto_o a_o thousand_o generation_n where_o mark_v well_o that_o our_o lord_n say_v that_o he_o be_v a_o jealous_a god_n to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v understande_v that_o he_o can_v punish_v most_o grievous_o with_o impiety_n and_o iniquity_n which_o be_v against_o those_o that_o sin_n continual_o &_o yet_o live_v merry_o as_o if_o god_n have_v no_o care_n thereof_o but_o by_o this_o you_o see_v god_n have_v care_n &_o will_v show_v it_o when_o time_n be_v s_o what_o mean_a thit_n that_o god_n punish_v such_o as_o do_v evil_a unto_o the_o four_o generation_n and_o give_v reward_n unto_o those_o that_o do_v well_o unto_o a_o thousand_o generation_n m_o god_n punish_v unto_o the_o four_o generation_n for_o that_o for_o the_o most_o part_n a_o man_n do_v not_o live_v long_o than_o to_o see_v the_o child_n of_o his_o nephew_n or_o at_o the_o most_o the_o nephew_n to_o his_o nephew_n &_o he_o will_v not_o punish_v other_o of_o his_o posterity_n than_o the_o sinner_n himself_o may_v see_v but_o in_o do_v well_o god_n extend_v himself_o not_o only_o unto_o the_o four_o generation_n but_o unto_o a_o thousand_o if_o there_o be_v so_o many_o for_o that_o our_o lord_n be_v more_o incline_v to_o reward_v then_o to_o punish_v because_o that_o he_o reward_v be_v of_o his_o own_o goodness_n and_o therefore_o he_o do_v it_o very_o willing_o but_o that_o he_o punish_v any_o it_o come_v of_o our_o sin_n and_o therefore_o he_o do_v it_o as_o it_o be_v perforce_o to_o wit_n urge_v by_o our_o perverseness_n s_o wherefore_o be_v this_o threat_n and_o this_o promise_n join_v to_o the_o first_o commandment_n only_o m_o because_o this_o be_v the_o principal_a commandment_n &_o of_o more_o importance_n than_o the_o rest_n again_o for_o that_o it_o be_v the_o first_o and_o so_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o first_o it_o may_v be_v understand_v also_o of_o the_o rest_n s_o i_o desire_v to_o know_v how_o the_o honour_n which_o we_o give_v to_o saint_n and_o their_o relic_n and_o image_n be_v not_o against_o this_o commandment_n for_o it_o seem_v that_o we_o adore_v all_o these_o thing_n see_v we_o kneel_v unto_o they_o and_o pray_v unto_o they_o as_o we_o do_v unto_o god_n m_o the_o holy_a church_n be_v the_o spouse_n of_o god_n and_o have_v the_o holy_a ghost_n for_o her_o master_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o danger_n that_o she_o shall_v be_v deceive_v or_o that_o she_o shall_v do_v or_o teach_v other_o to_o do_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v against_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n and_o to_o come_v to_o the_o particular_a we_o do_v honour_n and_o call_v upon_o saint_n as_o friend_n of_o god_n who_o can_v help_v we_o with_o their_o merit_n and_o prayer_n before_o he_o but_o we_o do_v not_o take_v they_o for_o god_n neither_o adore_v they_o as_o god_n neither_o import_v it_o that_o we_o knee_n because_o this_o reverence_n be_v not_o proper_a to_o god_n alone_o but_o be_v do_v also_o unto_o creature_n of_o high_a dignity_n as_o to_o the_o pope_n and_o in_o many_o place_n religious_a person_n kneel_v unto_o their_o superior_n so_o that_o it_o be_v no_o marvel_v
if_o that_o be_v do_v unto_o saint_n who_o reign_n with_o christ_n in_o heaven_n which_o be_v do_v unto_o some_o man_n in_o earth_n s_o but_o what_o shall_v we_o say_v of_o the_o relic_n of_o saint_n which_o understand_v nothing_o and_o yet_o we_o kneel_v and_o pray_v unto_o they_o m_o we_o do_v not_o pray_v to_o the_o relic_n which_o we_o know_v well_o do_v not_o understand_v but_o we_o honour_v the_o holy_a relic_n as_o those_o which_o have_v be_v the_o instrument_n of_o the_o holy_a soul_n to_o do_v many_o good_a work_n and_o shall_v again_o in_o their_o time_n be_v live_a body_n and_o be_v to_o we_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n dear_a pledge_n of_o the_o love_n which_o the_o saint_n do_v &_o do_v bear_v unto_o us._n and_o therefore_o we_o do_v pray_v before_o the_o same_o relic_n unto_o the_o saint_n desire_v they_o by_o these_o dear_a pledge_n which_o we_o keep_v of_o they_o that_o they_o remember_v to_o help_v we_o as_o we_o remember_v to_o honour_v they_o s_o the_o same_o perhaps_o may_v be_v say_v of_o image_n m_o so_o it_o be_v for_o the_o image_n of_o our_o lord_n of_o our_o lady_n &_o other_o saint_n be_v not_o take_v by_o we_o for_o god_n &_o therefore_o they_o can_v be_v call_v idol_n as_o those_o be_v of_o the_o gentile_n but_o they_o be_v hold_v for_o image_n which_o make_v we_o to_o remember_v our_o lord_n our_o lady_n and_o other_o saint_n &_o so_o they_o serve_v such_o as_o can_v read_v in_o place_n of_o book_n for_o that_o by_o image_n they_o learn_v many_o mystery_n of_o our_o holy_a faith_n &_o the_o life_n and_o death_n of_o many_o saint_n and_o the_o honour_n we_o do_v unto_o they_o we_o do_v it_o not_o because_o they_o be_v figure_n of_o paper_n or_o of_o metal_n or_o because_o they_o be_v well-coloured_a &_o well_o make_v but_o because_o they_o represent_v unto_o we_o our_o lord_n our_o lady_n or_o other_o saint_n and_o for_o that_o we_o know_v that_o the_o image_n do_v not_o live_v nor_o have_v sense_n be_v make_v by_o the_o hand_n of_o man_n we_o do_v not_o demand_v any_o thing_n of_o they_o but_o we_o pray_v before_o they_o unto_o those_o who_o they_o represent_v unto_o we_o to_o wit_n our_o lord_n our_o lady_n or_o other_o saint_n s_o if_o relic_n and_o image_n do_v not_o understand_v how_o then_o do_v they_o work_v so_o many_o miracle_n to_o such_o as_o do_v recommend_v themselves_o unto_o they_o m_o god_n work_v all_o the_o miracle_n but_o he_o work_v they_o often_o by_o the_o intercession_n of_o saint_n and_o chief_o of_o our_o bless_a lady_n &_o oftentimes_o he_o do_v they_o unto_o those_o who_o which_o be_v make_v by_o lend_v of_o money_n with_o covenant_n that_o it_o shall_v be_v restore_v with_o something_o more_o and_o these_o be_v reduce_v to_o roberie_n because_o he_o that_o take_v usury_n exact_v manifest_o more_o they_o he_o hathlent_a three_o all_o the_o damage_n which_o be_v do_v to_o our_o neighbour_n though_o he_o that_o be_v the_o occasion_n thereof_o gain_v nothing_o we_o see_v that_o judas_n by_o the_o custom_n he_o have_v to_o steal_v appropriate_v to_o himself_o that_o be_v give_v he_o for_o the_o common_a use_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o his_o holy_a apostle_n
