filthy_a and_o foolish_a speech_n which_o not_o only_o bring_v no_o grace_n or_o godly_a edification_n to_o the_o hearer_n but_o rather_o corrupt_v good_a manner_n other_o some_o though_o they_o fall_v not_o so_o foul_o yet_o be_v overtake_v in_o their_o discourse_n of_o pleasure_n of_o profit_n hawk_v hunt_a merchandise_n purchase_v land_n etc._n etc._n which_o though_o in_o themselves_o they_o be_v not_o evil_a yet_o because_o they_o continual_o put_v better_a matter_n out_o of_o place_n they_o be_v become_v the_o sin_n of_o their_o soul_n and_o if_o it_o so_o fall_v out_o that_o now_o and_o then_o they_o or_o some_o of_o they_o stumble_v upon_o good_a thing_n be_v it_o either_o in_o word_n or_o deed_n by_o the_o motion_n of_o their_o own_o mind_n or_o occasion_n from_o other_o it_o be_v certain_o but_o as_o a_o flash_n lightning_n no_o man_n know_v whence_o it_o come_v nor_o whither_o it_o go_v and_o even_o vanish_v away_o as_o if_o it_o be_v in_o the_o first_o appear_v of_o it_o and_o therefore_o sure_o through_o their_o sin_n of_o ignorance_n negligence_n carelessness_n contempt_n &_o profaneness_n it_o be_v likely_a that_o vengeance_n shall_v break_v forth_o from_o the_o lord_n in_o a_o grievous_a both_o
measure_n and_o manner_n &_o fearful_o consume_v both_o bough_n and_o branch_n root_n and_o body_n trunk_n stock_n and_o all_o in_o a_o day_n and_o if_o this_o be_v the_o state_n and_o condition_n of_o the_o generality_n as_o indeed_o it_o be_v what_o shall_v become_v of_o the_o particular_n the_o whole_a body_n consist_v of_o they_o as_o it_o be_v of_o several_a part_n but_o that_o they_o also_o must_v remain_v under_o the_o same_o judgement_n to_o you_o therefore_o that_o now_o be_v under_o this_o hand_n &_o hammer_v of_o god_n heavy_a indignation_n be_v it_o that_o i_o write_v and_o speak_v can_v you_o deny_v but_o that_o even_o many_o day_n and_o year_n already_o pass_v you_o have_v long_o ago_o pull_v this_o and_o a_o more_o grievous_a judgement_n by_o much_o down_o upon_o you_o from_o almighty_a god_n if_o you_o shall_v the_o heaven_n will_v blush_v at_o you_o and_o the_o earth_n will_v bear_v witness_n against_o you_o and_o testify_v unto_o your_o face_n the_o filthiness_n of_o your_o word_n and_o work_n i_o think_v it_o shall_v be_v far_o better_o for_o you_o to_o give_v glory_n to_o god_n and_o unfeigned_o confess_v that_o it_o be_v his_o singular_a favour_n to_o have_v spare_v you_o so_o long_o and_o that_o it_o be_v his_o more_o than_o common_a mercy_n that_o you_o be_v not_o all_o consume_v what_o have_v be_v threaten_v against_o you_o out_o of_o god_n word_n you_o can_v be_v ignorant_a of_o what_o punishment_n have_v light_a upon_o you_o by_o the_o plague_n the_o small_a pock_n and_o now_o this_o last_o fearful_a fire_n you_o can_v but_o feel_v what_o have_v god_n strike_v you_o without_o a_o cause_n be_v it_o far_o from_o you_o either_o to_o speak_v it_o or_o think_v it_o for_o that_o be_v to_o condemn_v the_o most_o just_a judge_n of_o the_o world_n for_o your_o own_o clear_n yea_o and_o to_o go_v against_o the_o sting_a testimony_n which_o every_o day_n when_o you_o rise_v up_o and_o every_o night_n when_o you_o lie_v down_o tell_v you_o the_o clean_a contrary_n but_o if_o you_o shall_v proceed_v to_o that_o height_n be_v not_o other_o man_n that_o have_v watch_v over_o you_o &_o preach_v &_o speak_v unto_o you_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n able_a to_o convince_v you_o of_o falsehood_n to_o your_o face_n and_o to_o throw_v the_o dounge_n of_o your_o iniquity_n upon_o your_o countenance_n give_v they_o therefore_o leave_v to_o declare_v the_o truth_n to_o you_o and_o labour_n to_o bear_v with_o patience_n and_o to_o profit_v by_o the_o word_n of_o exhortation_n since_o it_o be_v direct_v to_o you_o for_o your_o good_a and_o unfeigned_a humiliation_n also_o for_o they_o know_v you_o and_o your_o offence_n far_o better_a than_o you_o yourselves_o perhaps_o you_o will_v think_v this_o speech_n strange_a but_o deceive_v not_o your_o own_o heart_n i_o beseech_v you_o for_o if_o you_o will_v weigh_v that_o natural_o we_o be_v blind_a to_o discern_v sin_n and_o after_o they_o see_v it_o yet_o many_o time_n they_o be_v partial_a in_o their_o own_o way_n and_o even_o blear_v up_o their_o understanding_n and_o harden_v their_o heart_n and_o again_o that_o they_o be_v more_o quick_a and_o better_o sight_v to_o discern_v other_o man_n transgression_n than_o their_o own_o as_o also_o that_o god_n reveal_v not_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o people_n unto_o his_o faithful_a servant_n the_o prophet_n by_o the_o half_n i_o think_v you_o will_v or_o at_o the_o least_o i_o be_o sure_a you_o shall_v be_v of_o another_o mind_n to_o reckon_v up_o all_o the_o particular_n be_v hard_a and_o impossible_a for_o who_o can_v understande_v his_o fault_n and_o yet_o not_o to_o lay_v down_o some_o be_v to_o fail_v in_o the_o iustifify_n of_o the_o charge_n which_o be_v unjust_a and_o to_o let_v you_o alone_o in_o your_o iniquity_n which_o shall_v be_v uncharitable_a this_o therefore_o i_o say_v that_o among_o the_o infinite_a and_o innumerable_a sin_n of_o your_o soul_n there_o be_v some_o particular_n that_o have_v be_v and_o be_v most_o odious_a before_o god_n and_o most_o apparent_a in_o the_o view_n of_o the_o world_n among_o which_o i_o reckon_v in_o the_o first_o place_n a_o fearful_a contempt_n of_o godliness_n in_o the_o most_o of_o you_o and_o a_o great_a and_o grievous_a carelessness_n thereof_o even_o in_o the_o best_a how_o often_o and_o long_o have_v god_n speak_v unto_o you_o by_o the_o public_a ministry_n of_o his_o word_n in_o the_o holy_a exercise_n of_o prayer_n preach_v administration_n and_o participation_n of_o his_o bless_a sacrament_n if_o you_o can_v have_v see_v your_o happiness_n in_o that_o behalf_n both_o for_o the_o length_n of_o they_o &_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o man_n that_o god_n use_v as_o mean_n to_o publish_v his_o truth_n unto_o you_o your_o favour_n both_o way_n not_o far_o inferior_a to_o any_o congregation_n of_o the_o land_n and_o in_o these_o respect_n indeed_o go_v before_o many_o it_o have_v be_v well_o but_o how_o little_a you_o have_v profit_v by_o they_o nay_o how_o careless_o you_o have_v hear_v they_o &_o how_o cold_o you_o have_v frequent_v they_o your_o gross_a ignorance_n in_o the_o ground_n of_o christian_a religion_n show_v the_o first_o few_o or_o none_o of_o you_o be_v able_a to_o render_v a_o reason_n thereof_o to_o they_o that_o shall_v ask_v you_o &_o your_o sleep_v in_o the_o church_n talk_v one_o with_o another_o and_o turn_v of_o your_o book_n there_o and_o use_v of_o your_o own_o private_a devotion_n or_o prayer_n in_o the_o time_n of_o public_a preach_n &_o prayer_n a_o grievous_a transgression_n no_o doubt_n prove_v the_o second_o and_o your_o daily_a and_o continual_a absence_n therfrom_o and_o special_o upon_o the_o lord_n day_n then_o lie_v in_o your_o bed_n haunt_v of_o alehouse_n ride_v and_o go_v abroad_o for_o your_o worldly_a affair_n of_o pleasure_n and_o profit_n manife_v the_o three_o and_o how_o weary_a you_o be_v when_o you_o be_v there_o let_v this_o testify_v none_o prevent_v the_o time_n of_o public_a assembly_n and_o some_o come_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o your_o exercise_n to_o the_o great_a disturbance_n of_o the_o same_o and_o other_o that_o be_v there_o and_o that_o some_o again_o before_o the_o sermon_n be_v finish_v other_o some_o after_o the_o prayer_n make_v and_o before_o the_o sing_n of_o the_o psalm_n and_o the_o usual_a blessing_n to_o be_v pronounce_v depart_v thence_o whereof_o you_o as_o well_o as_o they_o that_o tarry_n shall_v be_v partaker_n post_v also_o out_o of_o the_o church_n as_o it_o be_v from_o a_o play_n or_o may_v game_n as_o though_o you_o suppose_v that_o no_o more_o reverence_n shall_v be_v show_v there_o than_o in_o other_o place_n or_o that_o some_o part_n of_o divine_a service_n belong_v unto_o you_o and_o not_o other_o some_o whereas_o in_o truth_n you_o ought_v to_o be_v alike_o partaker_n of_o the_o whole_a and_o how_o shall_v we_o look_v for_o any_o goodness_n where_o this_o that_o be_v the_o seed_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o nurse_n of_o all_o abomination_n sway_v so_o much_o sure_o when_o man_n have_v once_o cast_v god_n law_n behind_o their_o back_n and_o have_v it_o not_o in_o deed_n in_o a_o high_a and_o reverend_a regard_n what_o can_v there_o be_v to_o restrain_v they_o from_o evil_a or_o to_o direct_v they_o in_o good_a nay_o what_o shall_v not_o then_o be_v right_a and_o lawful_a though_o indeed_o it_o be_v never_o so_o corrupt_a and_o vile_a from_o this_o therefore_o as_o from_o a_o stream_n and_o fountain_n of_o filthiness_n have_v flow_v all_o your_o oath_n particular_a transgression_n as_o first_o for_o example_n your_o swear_n and_o curse_v by_o the_o first_o blaspheme_v of_o god_n name_n and_o hale_v down_o wrath_n and_o vengeance_n from_o the_o lord_n upon_o yourselves_o your_o wife_n child_n family_n friend_n yea_o all_o the_o good_n and_o cattle_n that_o you_o have_v and_o possess_v for_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o hold_v he_o guiltless_a that_o take_v his_o name_n in_o vain_a and_o sure_o we_o be_v that_o the_o plague_n of_o god_n shall_v not_o depart_v from_o the_o house_n of_o the_o swearer_n as_o also_o we_o may_v perceive_v by_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o fly_a book_n mention_v zachar_n 5._o in_o which_o be_v contain_v curse_n against_o every_o one_o that_o swear_v who_o also_o shall_v be_v cut_v off_o as_o well_o on_o this_o side_n as_o on_o that_o yea_o that_o this_o judgement_n shall_v enter_v into_o and_o remain_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o such_o swerer_n house_n and_o shall_v consume_v the_o same_o with_o the_o timber_n thereof_o and_o stone_n thereof_o and_o by_o the_o second_o not_o only_o testify_v the_o malice_n and_o madness_n of_o your_o own_o heart_n against_o man_n and_o other_o creature_n of_o god_n upon_o which_o you_o pour_v out_o the_o
