saint_n who_o strength_n be_v in_o the_o lord_n to_o be_v afraid_a of_o a_o man_n who_o great_a strength_n be_v weakness_n it_o be_v a_o shame_n for_o a_o saint_n who_o hope_n and_o confidence_n be_v in_o the_o god_n of_o jacob_n to_o be_v afraid_a of_o a_o man_n who_o expectation_n shall_v perish_v it_o be_v a_o horrid_a thing_n that_o saint_n shall_v be_v more_o afraid_a to_o serve_v the_o lord_n then_o wicked_a man_n be_v to_o serve_v the_o devil_n therefore_o let_v we_o hold_v fast_o the_o profession_n of_o our_o faith_n without_o waver_v and_o never_o fear_v what_o man_n can_v do_v righteous_a and_o take_v pleasure_n in_o his_o people_n and_o though_o the_o world_n may_v be_v our_o enemy_n and_o frown_v upon_o we_o yet_o the_o lord_n be_v our_o friend_n and_o will_v smile_v upon_o we_o with_o the_o light_n of_o his_o countenance_n and_o refresh_v our_o soul_n with_o the_o choice_a manifestation_n of_o his_o spirit_n and_o presence_n and_o though_o in_o the_o world_n we_o may_v have_v tribulation_n and_o sorrow_n yet_o in_o god_n we_o may_v have_v peace_n and_o comfort_n and_o joy_n in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n through_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n therefore_o see_v where_o our_o saviour_n christ_n make_v this_o a_o great_a reason_n against_o fear_n joh._n 14.27_o where_o he_o speak_v thus_o peace_n i_o leave_v with_o you_o my_o peace_n i_o give_v unto_o you_o we_o they_o can_v hurt_v we_o if_o we_o keep_v close_o to_o god_n they_o can_v do_v we_o no_o injury_n at_o all_o nay_o the_o more_o they_o persecute_v we_o if_o it_o be_v for_o christ_n the_o more_o it_o will_v conduce_v to_o our_o good_a and_o benefit_n oh_o what_o a_o glorious_a encouragement_n be_v this_o for_o poor_a persecute_a saint_n to_o hold_v out_o in_o a_o day_n of_o trial_n and_o to_o bear_v up_o their_o soul_n
and_o glory_n therefore_o he_o strict_o charge_v they_o to_o walk_v worthy_a or_o suitable_a to_o that_o great_a love_n of_o god_n which_o have_v gracious_o call_v they_o to_o such_o a_o glorious_a move_v it_o be_v such_o a_o kingdom_n as_o can_v never_o be_v shake_v nor_o move_v by_o all_o the_o power_n on_o earth_n nor_o it_o can_v never_o be_v throw_v down_o nor_o destroy_v by_o all_o the_o strength_n in_o the_o world_n all_o the_o force_n and_o violence_n that_o man_n and_o devil_n can_v use_v against_o it_o can_v never_o shake_v nor_o move_v the_o foundation_n of_o this_o kingdom_n it_o far_o exceed_v all_o the_o kingdom_n on_o earth_n in_o this_o particular_a also_o for_o alas_o all_o the_o kingdom_n on_o earth_n be_v changeable_a and_o mutable_a and_o be_v very_o subject_a to_o be_v subdue_v and_o destroy_v by_o power_n and_o strength_n but_o the_o saint_n kingdom_n be_v unchangeable_a and_o immutable_a a_o inheritance_n which_o fade_v not_o away_o alas_o the_o kingdom_n of_o this_o world_n be_v at_o no_o certainty_n they_o be_v often_o alter_v and_o change_v in_o their_o affair_n sometime_o to_o one_o thing_n and_o sometime_o to_o another_o sometime_o high_a and_o sometime_o low_a sometime_o rich_a and_o sometime_o poor_a sometime_o gain_v and_o sometime_o lose_v sometime_o peace_n and_o sometime_o war_n sometime_o prosperity_n and_o sometime_o adversity_n always_o ebb_a and_o flow_v rise_v and_o fall_v change_a and_o turn_v from_o one_o thing_n to_o another_o till_o many_o time_n king_n be_v even_o weary_a of_o their_o kingdom_n and_o again_o in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o this_o world_n thing_n be_v so_o mutable_a and_o subject_a to_o change_v that_o it_o be_v possible_a a_o man_n may_v be_v a_o king_n to_o day_n and_o a_o beggar_n to_o morrow_n a_o man_n may_v be_v upon_o the_o throne_n to_o day_n and_o upon_o the_o dunghill_n to_o morrow_n a_o man_n may_v be_v in_o great_a honour_n to_o day_n and_o in_o great_a reproach_n to_o morrow_n yea_o a_o man_n may_v be_v a_o ruler_n to_o day_n and_o overrule_v himself_o to_o morrow_n so_o variable_a and_o changeable_a be_v even_o the_o best_a thing_n of_o this_o life_n by_o which_o mean_v all_o thing_n here_o below_o be_v but_o vanity_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n but_o now_o it_o be_v not_o so_o in_o the_o saint_n kingdom_n it_o be_v altogether_o unmovable_a and_o unchangeable_a there_o be_v nothing_o can_v alter_v or_o change_v the_o excellency_n of_o that_o kingdom_n there_o be_v nothing_o can_v stain_v the_o glory_n nor_o diminish_v the_o beauty_n of_o that_o kingdom_n but_o as_o it_o be_v a_o heavenly_a kingdom_n now_o so_o it_o will_v be_v a_o heavenly_a kingdom_n for_o ever_o and_o as_o it_o be_v a_o glorious_a kingdom_n now_o so_o it_o will_v be_v a_o glorious_a kingdom_n for_o ever_o and_o as_o it_o be_v full_a of_o beauty_n and_o majesty_n now_o so_o it_o will_v be_v full_a of_o beauty_n and_o majesty_n for_o ever_o so_o that_o this_o be_v also_o another_o thing_n which_o do_v exceed_o proclaim_v the_o excellency_n of_o this_o kingdom_n therefore_o say_v the_o apostle_n heb._n 12.28_o wherefore_o we_o receive_v a_o kingdom_n first_o it_o be_v a_o heavenly_a kingdom_n second_o it_o be_v a_o glorious_a kingdom_n three_o it_o be_v a_o unmovable_a kingdom_n which_o be_v put_v together_o make_v a_o heavenly_a glorious_a unmovable_a kingdom_n a_o excellent_a habitation_n a_o appoint_a portion_n a_o precious_a reward_n for_o the_o people_n of_o god_n so_o much_o shall_v suffice_v concern_v the_o excellency_n of_o pilgrimage_n for_o alas_o now_o we_o be_v subject_a to_o sin_n every_o day_n and_o liable_a to_o fall_v into_o iniquity_n every_o hour_n and_o many_o temptation_n offer_v themselves_o unto_o we_o and_o spread_v themselves_o before_o we_o and_o many_o time_n occasion_v we_o to_o sin_n against_o the_o lord_n and_o endanger_v the_o destruction_n of_o our_o soul_n but_o now_o when_o the_o saint_n and_o buffet_n shall_v daily_o attend_v we_o if_o it_o be_v upon_o the_o account_n of_o god_n we_o shall_v be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v afraid_a as_o that_o we_o shall_v rather_o rejoice_v that_o we_o be_v count_v worthy_a to_o suffer_v any_o thing_n for_o the_o name_n of_o jesus_n possible_o the_o man_n of_o the_o world_n may_v be_v fill_v with_o madness_n against_o we_o and_o put_v we_o in_o prison_n by_o hundred_o and_o thousand_o and_o violent_o threaten_v we_o with_o halter_n and_o gibbet_n well_o be_v it_o so_o we_o shall_v notwithstanding_o be_v resolute_a in_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o not_o be_v afraid_a nor_o discourage_v at_o rabshekah_n rail_a nor_o yet_o at_o nebuchadnezzar_n fury_n see_v a_o notable_a text_n to_o bind_v this_o duty_n ezek._n 2.6_o and_o and_o to_o the_o great_a grief_n of_o those_o who_o be_v true_o sincere_a oh_o how_o base_a and_o cowardly_a do_v many_o eminent_a professor_n prove_v in_o this_o day_n of_o adversity_n how_o be_v they_o ready_a to_o cast_v off_o all_o their_o religion_n and_o to_o close_v in_o with_o the_o worshipper_n of_o antichrist_n and_o all_o out_o of_o a_o slavish_a fear_n of_o their_o persecute_v enemy_n well_o but_o the_o lord_n have_v a_o controversy_n against_o such_o backslide_n professor_n and_o they_o shall_v not_o escape_v the_o hand_n of_o his_o wrath_n for_o those_o that_o forget_v the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n in_o such_o a_o day_n as_o this_o and_o stretch_v out_o their_o hand_n to_o a_o strange_a god_n the_o lord_n will_v sure_o search_v they_o out_o for_o he_o know_v the_o secret_n of_o the_o heart_n psal_n 44.20_o 21._o but_o we_o will_v see_v what_o the_o scripture_n say_v in_o another_o place_n for_o the_o proof_n of_o this_o proposition_n isa_n 51.7_o harken_v unto_o i_o you_o that_o know_v righteousness_n say_v the_o text_n the_o people_n in_o who_o heart_n be_v my_o law_n well_o what_o be_v the_o matter_n that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n call_v so_o trouble_a condition_n yet_o in_o a_o happy_a condition_n why_o so_o how_o do_v it_o appear_v that_o they_o be_v bless_v in_o a_o persecute_a state_n why_o here_o be_v the_o business_n there_o be_v a_o kingdom-portion_n prepare_v to_o make_v they_o amends_o for_o their_o suffering-portion_n therefore_o though_o they_o may_v be_v persecute_v and_o reproach_v and_o evil_o speak_v of_o yet_o their_o blast_n in_o our_o way_n to_o heaven_n and_o to_o climb_v over_o many_o troublesome_a style_n before_o we_o come_v to_o the_o land_n of_o rest_n but_o when_o we_o come_v home_o to_o our_o own_o country_n and_o arrive_v at_o our_o continue_a city_n then_o we_o shall_v
heavenly_a call_v by_o a_o cheerful_a continue_v in_o the_o path_n of_o holiness_n oh_o let_v we_o take_v heed_n that_o our_o action_n do_v not_o witness_v against_o our_o word_n and_o our_o conversation_n give_v our_o profession_n the_o lie_n but_o as_o we_o bear_v a_o heavenly_a profession_n so_o let_v we_o lead_v a_o heavenly_a conversation_n and_o let_v we_o not_o suffer_v our_o heart_n and_o affection_n to_o run_v out_o after_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n but_o if_o we_o be_v rise_v with_o christ_n let_v we_o seek_v those_o thing_n which_o be_v above_o and_o set_v our_o affection_n there_o where_o we_o profess_v our_o portion_n be_v and_o let_v we_o manifest_v ourselves_o to_o be_v heir_n of_o this_o kingdom_n by_o our_o constant_a continue_v in_o the_o work_n of_o the_o kingdom_n and_o let_v we_o not_o shame_v ourselves_o nor_o disgrace_v our_o royal_a profession_n with_o dore_v upon_o the_o beggarly_a thing_n of_o this_o world_n but_o let_v we_o make_v it_o appear_v to_o the_o world_n that_o we_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o heir_n of_o heaven_n by_o abound_v in_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o devote_v ourselves_o to_o heavenly_a thing_n and_o let_v we_o take_v heed_n that_o we_o do_v not_o defile_v ourselves_o with_o any_o of_o the_o work_n of_o darkness_n nor_o stain_v our_o heavenly_a reputation_n with_o wander_v in_o the_o filthy_a path_n of_o iniquity_n for_o we_o that_o profess_v ourselves_o to_o be_v heir_n of_o this_o glorious_a kingdom_n we_o must_v not_o expect_v to_o walk_v as_o other_o gentile_n walk_v in_o the_o vanity_n of_o their_o mind_n and_o in_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n for_o if_o we_o do_v we_o must_v expect_v to_o be_v reward_v according_o but_o we_o must_v if_o we_o expect_v a_o better_a reward_n than_o other_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o a_o better_a work_n than_o other_o and_o we_o must_v put_v off_o our_o former_a conversation_n and_o cast_v away_o the_o old_a man_n with_o his_o deed_n which_o be_v corrupt_a and_o be_v renew_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o our_o mind_n and_o put_v on_o the_o new_a man_n which_o after_o god_n be_v create_v in_o righteousness_n &_o true_a holiness_n that_o so_o we_o may_v adorn_v our_o princely_a profession_n and_o walk_v worthy_a of_o the_o vocation_n wherewith_o we_o be_v call_v for_o pray_v consider_v what_o a_o unsuitable_a thing_n it_o will_v be_v for_o a_o prince_n or_o one_o that_o be_v heir_n to_o a_o earthly_a kingdom_n to_o go_v up_o and_o down_o in_o beggar_n apparel_n and_o associate_v himself_o with_o the_o mean_a and_o base_a of_o the_o people_n and_o expose_v himself_o to_o such_o a_o contemptible_a course_n of_o life_n as_o to_o spend_v his_o time_n in_o the_o work_n of_o drudgery_n and_o slavish_a employment_n and_o take_v up_o his_o lodging_n with_o beggar_n on_o a_o dunghill_n or_o under_o a_o hedge_n and_o yet_o keep_v up_o his_o princely_a profession_n and_o proclaim_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o son_n of_o a_o king_n and_o heir_n to_o a_o kingdom_n i_o say_v it_o will_v be_v account_v a_o very_a unsuitable_a thing_n and_o a_o great_a dishonour_n to_o one_o of_o his_o degree_n and_o it_o will_v very_o much_o stain_v and_o diminish_v his_o reputation_n in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n and_o render_v he_o very_o ridiculous_a among_o his_o friend_n and_o relation_n how_o much_o more_o will_v it_o be_v a_o unsuitable_a thing_n for_o we_o that_o profess_v ourselves_o to_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o prince_n of_o heaven_n and_o heir_n to_o a_o eternal_a kingdom_n if_o we_o shall_v suffer_v the_o rag_n of_o unrighteousness_n to_o rest_v upon_o we_o and_o go_v along_o with_o the_o wicked_a in_o the_o path_n of_o impurity_n and_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o the_o devil_n drudgery_n and_o set_v our_o affection_n upon_o the_o unprofitable_a dunghill_n of_o this_o life_n &_o take_v up_o our_o lodging_n here_o under_o the_o hedge_n of_o earthly_a vanity_n oh_o how_o unsuitable_a will_v it_o be_v to_o our_o heavenly_a profession_n and_o how_o great_o will_v it_o derogate_v from_o god_n and_o diminish_v the_o reputation_n of_o godliness_n and_o how_o unworthy_a and_o unfit_a shall_v we_o render_v ourselves_o of_o such_o a_o glorious_a inheritance_n and_o we_o shall_v cause_v the_o way_n of_o truth_n to_o be_v mighty_o abuse_v and_o manifest_v ourselves_o to_o be_v no_o better_o than_o hypocrite_n therefore_o now_o let_v we_o endeavour_v to_o regulate_v and_o order_v our_o conversation_n aright_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o to_o walk_v circumspect_o both_o in_o word_n and_o action_n redeem_v the_o time_n because_o the_o day_n be_v evil_a and_o let_v no_o corrupt_a communication_n proceed_v out_o of_o our_o mouth_n nor_o no_o corrupt_a action_n be_v see_v in_o our_o life_n but_o rather_o let_v the_o appearance_n of_o god_n grace_n unto_o our_o soul_n teach_v as_o to_o deny_v ungodliness_n and_o worldly_a lust_n and_o to_o live_v sober_o and_o righteous_o in_o this_o present_a evil_a world_n that_o so_o we_o may_v walk_v worthy_a of_o the_o lord_n unto_o all_o please_a increase_a and_o abound_v in_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o continue_v and_o persevere_v in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n all_o the_o day_n of_o our_o life_n to_o the_o praise_n and_o glory_n of_o he_o who_o have_v call_v we_o to_o forth_o a_o cord_n of_o encouragement_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n of_o comfort_n as_o a_o mean_n to_o arm_n and_o fortify_v our_o soul_n against_o the_o fear_n and_o terror_n of_o man_n that_o we_o may_v cheerful_o &_o faithful_o stand_v to_o the_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n notwithstanding_o the_o great_a opposition_n which_o we_o may_v meet_v withal_o from_o the_o son_n of_o men._n it_o be_v that_o which_o i_o pen_v in_o the_o time_n of_o my_o restraint_n and_o imprisonment_n when_o my_o soul_n be_v much_o exercise_v in_o the_o thought_n of_o god_n goodness_n and_o true_o my_o soul_n and_o trial_n and_o i_o hope_v it_o will_v through_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n be_v of_o the_o same_o use_n unto_o your_o soul_n if_o the_o lord_n by_o this_o discourse_n shall_v make_v i_o who_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o your_o body_n a_o instrument_n of_o joy_n and_o comfort_n to_o your_o soul_n in_o this_o day_n of_o trouble_n and_o difficulty_n i_o shall_v think_v myself_o large_o requite_v for_o my_o labour_n in_o write_v and_o shall_v earnest_o desire_v that_o god_n may_v have_v the_o glory_n therefore_o to_o that_o end_n i_o shall_v commend_v the_o follow_a discourse_n to_o the_o the_o honest_a and_o well-affected_n reader_n christian_n reader_n if_o thou_o be_v willing_a to_o walk_v in_o the_o path_n of_o righteousness_n that_o thou_o may_v enjoy_v peace_n and_o favour_n with_o god_n thou_o must_v expect_v to_o meet_v with_o many_o trouble_n and_o afsliction_n trial_n and_o temptation_n in_o this_o earthly_a pilgrimage_n and_o many_o disquietment_n from_o the_o hand_n of_o man_n for_o here_o thou_o be_v but_o as_o a_o poor_a traveller_n in_o a_o strange_a country_n subject_a to_o be_v much_o wrong_v and_o abuse_v by_o the_o man_n of_o this_o world_n because_o thou_o belong_v to_o another_o country_n and_o can_v not_o travel_v with_o they_o in_o the_o road_n of_o iniquity_n insomuch_o that_o thy_o portion_n it_o may_v be_v here_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v grievous_a and_o thy_o burden_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v heavy_a therefore_o out_o of_o tender_a love_n to_o thy_o soul_n i_o have_v here_o compound_v a_o choice_n cordial_a for_o thou_o as_o a_o mean_n to_o comfort_n and_o encourage_v thou_o in_o thy_o christian_a progress_n that_o thou_o may_v not_o faint_v nor_o be_v weary_a in_o well-doing_n for_o this_o i_o can_v assure_v thou_o and_o that_o by_o experience_n that_o if_o thou_o do_v but_o carry_v this_o heavenly_a cordial_n along_o with_o thou_o upon_o thy_o heart_n it_o will_v make_v the_o bitter_a cup_n of_o affliction_n sweet_a and_o pleasant_a to_o thou_o and_o the_o great_a burden_n of_o grief_n and_o misery_n shall_v be_v light_n and_o easy_a unto_o thy_o soul_n and_o if_o thou_o can_v but_o taste_v the_o sweetness_n of_o it_o by_o experience_n upon_o thy_o soul_n it_o will_v make_v thou_o think_v thyself_o happy_a though_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o misery_n and_o make_v thou_o rejoice_v though_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o sorrow_n and_o give_v thou_o occasion_n to_o bless_v and_o praise_v the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n for_o the_o worst_a of_o dispensation_n and_o lest_o thou_o shall_v at_o any_o time_n be_v fill_v and_o overcome_v with_o slavish_a fear_n under_o the_o consideration_n of_o thy_o earthly_a adversary_n and_o be_v fright_v from_o the_o truth_n by_o the_o frown_a rage_n of_o thy_o enemy_n i_o here_o present_v thou_o with_o a_o excellent_a antidote_n against_o the_o fear_n and_o terror_n of_o man_n which_o be_v know_v by_o experience_n to_o be_v of_o a_o wonderful_a strengthen_v nature_n and_o if_o it_o be_v kind_o receive_v into_o thy_o soul_n it_o will_v sufficient_o fortify_v and_o encourage_v thou_o against_o all_o opposition_n whatsoever_o and_o make_v thou_o bold_a and_o courageous_a for_o the_o cause_n of_o god_n and_o crown_v thou_o with_o victory_n in_o life_n eternal_a so_o i_o shall_v commit_v both_o thou_o and_o the_o follow_a discourse_n to_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n desire_v thou_o to_o read_v it_o considerate_o and_o peruse_v it_o in_o love_n that_o so_o it_o may_v prove_v as_o food_n to_o thy_o soul_n and_o strength_n to_o thy_o inward_a man_n to_o the_o praise_n and_o glory_n of_o he_o who_o have_v call_v thou_o out_o of_o darkness_n into_o his_o marvellous_a light_n which_o be_v the_o earnest_a desire_n of_o his_o soul_n who_o be_v thy_o faithful_a receive_v and_o embrace_v that_o doctrine_n and_o counsel_n which_o be_v comprehend_v in_o these_o word_n because_o they_o proceed_v out_o of_o the_o mouth_n of_o so_o gracious_a wise_a and_o excellent_a nature_n and_o of_o great_a concernment_n unto_o our_o soul_n if_o we_o do_v but_o give_v diligent_a heed_n thereunto_o and_o without_o doubt_n if_o the_o doctrine_n of_o this_o text_n be_v but_o the_o practice_n of_o our_o life_n we_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o grapple_v with_o and_o get_v victory_n over_o all_o the_o temptation_n trial_n and_o difficulty_n of_o this_o life_n and_o our_o conversation_n will_v mighty_o conduce_v to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o to_o the_o eternal_a well-being_n of_o our_o soul_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v well_o but_o let_v we_o come_v a_o little_a close_o to_o the_o word_n themselves_o and_o let_v we_o see_v what_o this_o bless_a counsellor_n will_v have_v we_o learn_v from_o thence_o and_o let_v we_o a_o little_a examine_v what_o encouragement_n he_o will_v give_v we_o to_o receive_v his_o doctrine_n in_o the_o word_n themselves_o you_o have_v chief_o these_o three_o thing_n 1._o here_o be_v a_o exhortation_n or_o rather_o a_o dehortation_n to_o dehort_v we_o from_o something_o which_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v find_v among_o we_o or_o more_o plain_o here_o be_v a_o injunction_n something_o enjoin_v upon_o we_o by_o way_n of_o duty_n which_o be_v not_o to_o be_v afraid_a contain_v in_o cheese_n word_n fear_v not_o 2._o here_o be_v the_o person_n include_v upon_o who_o this_o duty_n be_v enjoin_v and_o they_o be_v the_o disciple_n and_o church_n of_o jesus_n christ_n comprehend_v in_o these_o word_n little_a flock_n fear_n not_o little_a flock_n 3._o here_o be_v a_o great_a reason_n or_o encouragement_n lay_v down_o to_o enforce_v the_o exhortation_n or_o to_o stir_v we_o up_o to_o put_v this_o necessary_a duty_n into_o practice_n and_o that_o be_v in_o these_o word_n for_o it_o be_v your_o father_n good_a pleasure_n to_o give_v you_o the_o kingdom_n a_o reason_n sufficient_a to_o enforce_v the_o duty_n and_o to_o balance_n alâ—_n opposition_n whatsoever_o it_o be_v somewhat_o requisite_a that_o i_o shall_v speak_v something_o concern_v this_o word_n fear_v before_o i_o come_v to_o the_o observation_n of_o the_o text_n for_o the_o better_a understanding_n of_o our_o saviour_n concern_v this_o of_o all_o their_o affliction_n well_o but_o we_o will_v see_v what_o the_o scripture_n say_v concern_v this_o matter_n see_v first_o psal_n 23.4_o yea_o say_v the_o psalmist_n though_o i_o walk_v through_o the_o valley_n of_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n yet_o will_v i_o fear_v no_o evil_n mark_n how_o bold_a and_o resolute_a the_o psalmist_n be_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o strange_a difficulty_n as_o much_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v although_o i_o shall_v walk_v in_o a_o dangerous_a valley_n and_o my_o enemy_n at_o the_o top_n of_o the_o hill_n ready_a to_o overwhelm_v i_o with_o destruction_n and_o though_o death_n shall_v pursue_v i_o and_o be_v as_o near_o to_o i_o as_o my_o shadow_n yet_o will_v i_o fear_v no_o evil_n why_o david_n what_o be_v the_o matter_n that_o thou_o be_v so_o exceed_o transport_v above_o the_o fear_n of_o evil_a certain_o thou_o have_v some_o reason_n for_o it_o thou_o can_v never_o be_v so_o full_a of_o courage_n in_o such_o eminent_a danger_n as_o thou_o speak_v of_o if_o thou_o have_v not_o something_o more_o than_o ordinary_a to_o support_v thy_o spirit_n see_v the_o reason_n therefore_o in_o the_o follow_a word_n the_o lord_n be_v proclaim_v they_o bless_v and_o happy_a now_o upon_o earth_n though_o in_o a_o mourn_a condition_n yet_o in_o a_o bless_a condition_n though_o in_o a_o persecute_a state_n yet_o in_o a_o bless_a state_n whatever_o their_o condition_n be_v yet_o they_o be_v bless_v because_o their_o reward_n be_v great_a in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n so_o that_o this_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n that_o i_o gather_v from_o this_o heavenly_a doctrine_n it_o inform_v we_o that_o the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v a_o bless_a and_o happy_a people_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o first_o use_v by_o way_n of_o discovery_n but_o second_o by_o way_n of_o examination_n 2._o use_v be_v it_o so_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v prepare_v a_o kingdom_n for_o his_o people_n then_o let_v we_o serious_o examine_v whether_o we_o have_v a_o interest_n in_o this_o kingdom_n or_o no_o let_v we_o search_v and_o try_v whether_o we_o have_v any_o thing_n to_o do_v with_o this_o heavenly_a portion_n or_o whether_o we_o have_v any_o share_n in_o this_o glorious_a reward_n or_o no_o for_o pray_v consider_v serious_o what_o will_v it_o profit_v we_o to_o hear_v of_o a_o glorious_a kingdom_n prepare_v for_o the_o saint_n if_o we_o have_v no_o part_n nor_o portion_n there_o or_o what_o will_v it_o benefit_v we_o to_o hear_v of_o the_o glory_n and_o happiness_n of_o saint_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n if_o it_o do_v not_o belong_v to_o we_o alas_o it_o will_v avail_v we_o nothing_o to_o hear_v of_o these_o thing_n nor_o to_o talk_v of_o these_o
thing_n except_o we_o ourselves_o have_v a_o interest_n in_o they_o and_o can_v call_v they_o we_o it_o will_v do_v we_o little_a good_a to_o hear_v of_o the_o saint_n happiness_n if_o we_o ourselves_o be_v miserable_a therefore_o i_o say_v let_v we_o take_v heed_n and_o diligent_o examine_v how_o it_o be_v with_o we_o lest_o any_o root_n of_o bitterness_n spring_v up_o in_o our_o soul_n and_o defile_v we_o and_o make_v we_o unfit_a for_o this_o glorious_a kingdom_n for_o no_o unclean_a thing_n nor_o no_o unrighteous_a person_n shall_v ever_o inherit_v this_o heavenly_a kingdom_n there_o be_v none_o shall_v be_v bless_v with_o the_o vision_n of_o god_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n but_o such_o as_o have_v clean_a hand_n and_o a_o pure_a heart_n and_o be_v cleanse_v from_o sin_n and_o iniquity_n there_o be_v none_o shall_v receive_v the_o kingdom_n which_o can_v be_v move_v but_o such_o as_o serve_v god_n acceptable_o with_o reverence_n and_o godly_a fear_n there_o be_v none_o shall_v dwell_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n in_o his_o heavenly_a habitation_n but_o such_o as_o be_v humble_a and_o upright_o in_o conversation_n there_o be_v none_o shall_v be_v happy_a in_o heaven_n but_o such_o as_o be_v holy_a and_o heavenly_a mind_a on_o earth_n for_o without_o holiness_n no_o man_n shall_v see_v god_n and_o to_o be_v carnal_o mind_v be_v death_n but_o to_o be_v spiritual_o mind_v be_v life_n and_o peace_n therefore_o let_v we_o not_o flatter_v ourselves_o with_o vain_a fancy_n nor_o satisfy_v ourselves_o with_o a_o bare_a profession_n of_o alas_o such_o shall_v never_o find_v acquaintance_n with_o god_n at_o the_o last_o day_n nor_o never_o be_v entertain_v nor_o receive_v into_o this_o heavenly_a kingdom_n for_o every_o one_o that_o diligence_n to_o make_v our_o call_v and_o election_n sure_a by_o a_o humble_a walk_n with_o god_n and_o by_o a_o constant_a persevere_v in_o the_o pure_a way_n of_o the_o lord_n lest_o we_o shall_v deceive_v our_o own_o soul_n and_o miss_v of_o his_o glorious_a reward_n in_o this_o heavenly_a kingdom_n and_o if_o upon_o examination_n we_o find_v ourselves_o to_o be_v in_o god_n way_n stand_v upon_o a_o sure_a foundation_n than_o we_o may_v rejoice_v in_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n and_o satisfy_v our_o soul_n at_o this_o heavenly_a fountain_n and_o so_o long_o as_o we_o continue_v faithful_a to_o god_n in_o purity_n of_o soul_n we_o may_v challenge_v a_o interest_n in_o this_o heavenly_a portion_n and_o call_v the_o kingdom_n and_o all_o its_o glory_n we_o and_o all_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n be_v yea_o and_o amen_o to_o we_o that_o by_o they_o we_o may_v be_v encourage_v to_o continue_v and_o persevere_v in_o holiness_n and_o righteousness_n all_o the_o day_n of_o our_o life_n to_o the_o praise_n and_o glory_n of_o he_o who_o have_v call_v we_o to_o this_o heavenly_a kingdom_n but_o now_o give_v i_o leave_v to_o intermix_v a_o word_n of_o caution_n into_o this_o use_n of_o examination_n and_o that_o be_v this_o if_o upon_o right_a examination_n we_o find_v that_o we_o have_v a_o interest_n in_o this_o glorious_a kingdom_n then_o let_v we_o take_v heed_n that_o we_o do_v not_o turn_v aside_o out_o of_o the_o way_n of_o god_n and_o travel_v again_o in_o the_o path_n of_o iniquity_n and_o so_o lose_v our_o interest_n and_o be_v deprive_v of_o that_o kingdom_n which_o once_o we_o have_v a_o right_a unto_o let_v we_o take_v heed_n that_o the_o devil_n do_v not_o beguile_v we_o with_o his_o golden_a bait_n of_o sin_n and_o iniquity_n and_o so_o rob_v we_o of_o our_o heavenly_a portion_n let_v we_o take_v heed_n that_o we_o do_v not_o fell_v our_o heavenly_a birthright_n for_o a_o little_a worldly_a pottage_n nor_o change_v our_o heavenly_a kingdom_n for_o a_o little_a earthly_a profit_n or_o worldly_a advantage_n i_o say_v let_v we_o take_v heed_n of_o these_o thing_n lest_o there_o shall_v spring_v up_o some_o root_n of_o bitterness_n in_o our_o soul_n and_o cause_v we_o to_o depart_v from_o the_o live_a god_n and_o grieve_v his_o holy_a spirit_n with_o our_o evil_a way_n and_o give_v he_o occasion_n to_o swear_v in_o his_o wrath_n that_o we_o shall_v never_o enter_v into_o this_o heavenly_a rest_n for_o it_o be_v not_o every_o one_o that_o begin_v well_o but_o he_o that_o endure_v to_o the_o end_n shall_v be_v save_v not_o every_o one_o that_o follow_v jesus_n christ_n for_o a_o little_a season_n and_o so_o leave_v he_o that_o shall_v receive_v the_o reward_n but_o he_o that_o continue_v and_o abide_v faithful_a unto_o death_n shall_v receive_v the_o crown_n of_o life_n it_o be_v not_o every_o one_o that_o begin_v to_o fight_v well_o that_o shall_v obtain_v the_o prize_n but_o he_o that_o work_n and_o whole_o apply_v ourselves_o to_o the_o work_n and_o service_n of_o god_n and_o make_v it_o our_o meat_n and_o drink_n to_o do_v the_o will_n of_o our_o heavenly_a father_n and_o as_o the_o lord_n have_v call_v we_o to_o a_o heavenly_a kingdom_n so_o let_v we_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o heavenly_a thing_n and_o be_v no_o more_o in_o love_n with_o the_o beggarly_a thing_n of_o this_o life_n but_o let_v we_o always_o be_v find_v act_v suitable_a to_o our_o profession_n and_o walk_v in_o such_o way_n as_o become_v those_o that_o be_v heir_n of_o a_o glorious_a kingdom_n confess_v that_o we_o be_v but_o stranger_n and_o pilgrim_n here_o on_o earth_n have_v our_o affection_n estrange_v from_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n that_o we_o may_v declare_v plain_o that_o here_o we_o have_v no_o continue_a
city_n but_o we_o seek_v one_o to_o come_v that_o so_o in_o all_o thing_n we_o may_v dignify_v our_o heavenly_a profession_n and_o walk_v worthy_a of_o god_n who_o have_v call_v we_o to_o his_o kingdom_n and_o glory_n always_o remember_v the_o counsel_n of_o the_o apostle_n heb._n 12.28_o wherefore_o we_o receive_v a_o kingdom_n which_o can_v be_v move_v let_v we_o hold_v fast_o grace_n whereby_o we_o may_v serve_v god_n acceptable_o with_o reverence_n and_o godly_a fear_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o second_o use_v by_o way_n of_o examination_n intermix_v with_o a_o word_n of_o rather_o let_v we_o be_v encourage_v to_o continue_v faithful_a in_o our_o testimony_n for_o god_n whatever_o it_o may_v cost_v we_o and_o let_v we_o lift_v up_o our_o head_n with_o joy_n and_o be_v exceed_o cheerful_a under_o all_o our_o persecute_v trouble_n for_o whatever_o our_o condition_n be_v yet_o still_o our_o kingdom-portion_n remain_v firm_a and_o sure_a without_o corruption_n and_o can_v never_o be_v take_v away_o from_o we_o unless_o we_o deprive_v ourselves_o of_o it_o by_o our_o sin_v against_o the_o lord_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o this_o very_a consideration_n do_v 34._o where_o the_o apostle_n be_v put_v of_o they_o in_o mind_n of_o their_o former_a great_a and_o grievous_a suffering_n and_o commend_v of_o they_o for_o their_o excellent_a behaviour_n under_o they_o but_o call_v to_o remembrance_n say_v the_o apostle_n the_o former_a day_n in_o which_o after_o you_o be_v illuminate_v you_o endure_v a_o great_a fight_n of_o affliction_n partly_o whilst_o you_o be_v make_v a_o gazingstock_n both_o by_o reproach_n and_o affliction_n and_o partly_o whilst_o you_o become_v companion_n of_o they_o that_o be_v so_o use_v for_o you_o have_v compassion_n of_o i_o in_o my_o bond_n and_o take_v joyful_o the_o spoil_n of_o your_o good_n here_o be_v a_o great_a storm_n of_o affliction_n and_o abundance_n of_o suffering_n that_o befall_v these_o poor_a primitive_a christian_n in_o their_o journey_n towards_o heaven_n here_o be_v mock_n and_o reproach_n and_o many_o other_o affliction_n together_o with_o plunder_v and_o spoil_v of_o good_n and_o yet_o they_o be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v discourage_v at_o these_o thing_n as_o that_o they_o do_v not_o only_o take_v they_o patient_o but_o joyful_o why_o what_o be_v the_o matter_n that_o these_o christian_n be_v so_o joyful_a under_o their_o suffering_n and_o so_o much_o support_v and_o encourage_v under_o all_o their_o affliction_n why_o this_o be_v the_o business_n they_o know_v in_o themselves_o that_o in_o heaven_n they_o have_v a_o better_a and_o a_o endure_v substance_n they_o know_v that_o though_o they_o be_v loser_n now_o yet_o they_o shall_v be_v great_a gainer_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n they_o know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o reward_n lay_v up_o for_o they_o in_o heaven_n which_o will_v abundant_o make_v they_o amends_o for_o all_o their_o loss_n and_o
