there_o not_o many_o a_o musical_a mind_n hinder_v if_o not_o quite_o keep_v from_o sweet_a comfort_n in_o god_n by_o the_o harmony_n of_o artificial_a concord_n upon_o musical_a instrument_n and_o how_o many_o perfume_a fool_n be_v there_o in_o the_o world_n who_o by_o smell_v their_o sweet_a apparel_n and_o their_o sweet_a nosegays_a be_v keep_v from_o soul_n sweetness_n in_o christ._n and_o thus_o do_v satan_n like_o a_o cunning_a fisher_n beat_v his_o hook_n with_o a_o sensual_a object_n to_o catch_v man_n with_o and_o have_v get_v it_o into_o their_o jaw_n he_o draw_v they_o up_o and_o down_o in_o their_o sensual_a contentment_n till_o he_o have_v so_o drown_v they_o therein_o that_o the_o peace_n and_o rest_n of_o their_o soul_n in_o god_n be_v almost_o forget_v and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o great_a part_n of_o man_n life_n and_o in_o many_o their_o whole_a life_n be_v spend_v in_o seek_v satisfaction_n to_o the_o sensual_a appetite_n nom._n indeed_o sir_n this_o which_o you_o have_v say_v we_o may_v see_v true_o verify_v in_o many_o man_n who_o spend_v their_o day_n about_o these_o vanity_n and_o will_v afford_v no_o time_n for_o religious_a exercise_n no_o not_o upon_o the_o lord_n day_n by_o their_o good_a will_n neo._n you_o say_v the_o truth_n and_o yet_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o withal_o that_o a_o man_n by_o the_o power_n of_o natural_a conscience_n may_v be_v force_v to_o confess_v that_o his_o hope_n of_o happiness_n be_v in_o god_n alone_o and_o not_o in_o these_o thing_n yea_o and_o to_o forsake_v profit_n and_o pleasure_n and_o all_o sensual_a exercise_n of_o man_n do_v strong_o deceive_v and_o strange_o delude_v many_o man_n of_o their_o heart_n happiness_n in_o god_n for_o the_o first_o sort_n though_o they_o be_v such_o as_o make_v their_o belly_n their_o best_a god_n and_o do_v no_o sacrifice_n but_o to_o bacchus_n apollo_n or_o venus_n though_o their_o conscience_n do_v accuse_v they_o that_o these_o thing_n be_v nought_o some_o who_o give_v themselves_o to_o a_o more_o special_a search_n and_o seek_v out_o for_o knowledge_n in_o scripture_n learnednesse_n and_o clerk-like_a skill_n in_o this_o art_n and_o that_o for_o this_o religious_a knowledge_n be_v so_o variable_a through_o the_o multiplicity_n of_o curious_a wit_n and_o contentious_a spirit_n that_o the_o life_n of_o man_n way_n seem_v too_o short_a to_o take_v a_o full_a view_n of_o this_o variety_n for_o though_o all_o sect_n say_v
content_a with_o what_o be_v most_o repugnant_a to_o its_o desire_n as_o with_o hunger_n cold_a nakedness_n yea_o and_o with_o death_n itself_o such_o be_v the_o wonderful_a work_n of_o the_o heart_n quiet_a and_o rest_n in_o god_n so_o that_o although_o such_o a_o man_n sense_n be_v still_o exercise_v in_o and_o upon_o their_o proper_a object_n yet_o be_v not_o his_o life_n sensual_a for_o his_o heart_n take_v no_o contentment_n from_o any_o such_o exercise_n but_o be_v still_o for_o the_o most_o part_n exercise_v in_o a_o more_o transcendent_a communion_n even_o with_o god_n in_o christ_n so_o that_o he_o use_v the_o world_n and_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n as_o though_o he_o use_v they_o not_o and_o receive_v no_o cordial_a contentment_n from_o any_o sensual_a exercise_n whatsoever_o and_o that_o because_o his_o heart_n be_v withdraw_v from_o they_o which_o withdraw_v of_o the_o heart_n be_v not_o unapt_o point_v at_o in_o the_o speech_n of_o the_o spouse_n cant._n 5.2_o i_o sleep_v say_v she_o but_o my_o heart_n wake_v so_o that_o it_o may_v be_v say_v that_o such_o a_o man_n he_o be_v sleep_v look_a hear_v taste_v eat_a drink_v feast_v etc._n etc._n but_o his_o heart_n be_v withdraw_v and_o be_v rejoice_v in_o god_n his_o saviour_n and_o his_o soul_n be_v magnify_v the_o lord_n so_o that_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o sensual_a delight_n his_o heart_n and_o secret_o say_v i_o but_o my_o happiness_n be_v not_o here_o nom._n but_o sir_n i_o pray_v you_o why_o do_v you_o call_v rational_a and_o religious_a exercise_n a_o wilderness_n evan._n for_o two_o reason_n first_o because_o that_o as_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n when_o they_o be_v get_v out_o of_o egypt_n do_v yet_o wander_v many_o year_n in_o the_o wilderness_n before_o they_o come_v into_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n even_o so_o do_v many_o man_n wander_v long_o in_o rational_a and_o religious_a exercise_n after_o they_o have_v leave_v a_o sensual_a life_n before_o they_o come_v to_o rest_v in_o god_n whereof_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n be_v a_o type_n second_o because_o as_o in_o a_o wilderness_n man_n often_o lose_v themselves_o and_o can_v find_v no_o way_n out_o but_o suppose_v after_o long_a travel_n that_o they_o be_v near_o the_o place_n whither_o they_o will_v go_v be_v in_o truth_n further_o off_o even_o so_o fare_v it_o with_o many_o yea_o with_o all_o such_o
