kindle_v it_o and_o revel_v 20.21_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o devil_n be_v cast_v into_o a_o lake_n of_o fire_n and_o brimstone_n and_o revel_v 21.8_o all_o the_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a be_v threaten_v to_o have_v their_o portion_n in_o the_o lake_n that_o burn_v with_o fire_n and_o brimstone_n which_o be_v the_o second_o death_n so_o that_o the_o torment_n of_o hell_n and_o the_o judgement_n wherewith_o sodom_n and_o gomorrha_n be_v destroy_v be_v fire_n and_o brimstone_n as_o therefore_o the_o torment_n of_o hell_n be_v unspeakable_a and_o pass_v all_o other_o torment_n so_o this_o vengeance_n which_o the_o lord_n inflict_v upon_o sodom_n and_o gomorrha_n resemble_v hell_n torment_n be_v the_o most_o grievous_a and_o fearful_a vengeance_n which_o ever_o be_v execute_v upon_o any_o people_n in_o this_o world_n &_o for_o this_o cause_n ought_v we_o more_o due_o and_o serious_o to_o consider_v it_o to_o the_o end_n that_o the_o horror_n and_o dread_n thereof_o may_v example_n to_o terrify_v we_o we_o now_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o they_o in_o this_o hard_a and_o flinty-hearted_a age_n of_o the_o world_n wherein_o neither_o precept_n nor_o counsel_n nor_o example_n of_o other_o folk_n harm_n can_v any_o thing_n prevail_v with_o we_o to_o make_v we_o beware_v what_o thing_n soever_o be_v write_v before_o be_v all_o write_v for_o our_o learning_n all_o people_n before_o we_o have_v be_v make_v example_n for_o we_o yet_o nothing_o can_v move_v we_o or_o make_v we_o wise_a but_o we_o be_v as_o inrespective_a of_o god_n judgement_n and_o as_o careless_a of_o his_o displeasure_n as_o though_o we_o have_v never_o read_v or_o hear_v any_o thing_n and_o so_o resolute_a be_v we_o in_o our_o impenitency_n that_o if_o we_o shall_v see_v sodom_n and_o gomorrah_n burn_v before_o our_o face_n the_o fearful_a behold_v of_o so_o strange_a a_o object_n may_v happy_o breed_v admiration_n and_o wonderment_n in_o we_o but_o repentance_n and_o amendment_n of_o life_n it_o will_v not_o but_o sodom_n lie_v in_o the_o ash_n of_o her_o destruction_n and_o we_o have_v rake_v by_o the_o remembrance_n of_o she_o in_o the_o ash_n of_o oblivion_n great_a wonder_n last_v but_o nine_o day_n and_o as_o the_o smoke_n of_o she_o and_o of_o her_o land_n sometime_o ascend_v into_o the_o cloud_n and_o so_o vanish_v in_o like_a manner_n the_o remembrance_n of_o she_o and_o of_o her_o destruction_n be_v perish_v like_o smoke_n and_o forget_v as_o though_o it_o have_v never_o be_v yet_o we_o practise_v her_o sin_n and_o be_v corrupt_v more_o than_o she_o in_o all_o her_o abomination_n she_o be_v a_o young_a sister_n to_o we_o in_o iniquity_n and_o we_o justify_v she_o in_o all_o our_o transgression_n what_o a_o madness_n be_v this_o to_o forget_v the_o judgement_n wherewith_o she_o be_v destroy_v and_o to_o practice_v her_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n she_o be_v destroy_v this_o be_v to_o be_v penny_n wise_a &_o pound_n foolish_a for_o we_o may_v be_v well_o assure_v sodom_n that_o if_o we_o practise_v her_o sin_n we_o shall_v taste_v of_o her_o judgement_n therefore_o in_o her_o name_n i_o have_v undertake_v to_o give_v a_o alarm_n to_o this_o city_n and_o this_o land_n to_o eschew_v the_o sin_n of_o sodom_n lest_o they_o burn_v in_o the_o judgement_n of_o sodom_n and_o for_o the_o same_o purpose_n i_o have_v make_v choice_n of_o this_o parcel_n of_o scripture_n contain_v a_o true_a plain_a and_o perfect_a relation_n of_o that_o fearful_a overthrow_n which_o almighty_a god_n bring_v upon_o sodom_n and_o her_o city_n for_o their_o abomination_n in_o which_o overthrow_n we_o have_v four_o thing_n especial_o to_o consider_v 1._o destroy_v the_o suddenness_n of_o it_o it_o be_v by_o sun-rise_n 2._o the_o author_n of_o it_o which_o be_v the_o lord_n from_o the_o lord_n out_o of_o heaven_n 3._o the_o manner_n of_o it_o which_o be_v with_o fire_n &_o brimstone_n 4._o the_o generality_n of_o it_o all_o the_o plain_a and_o all_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o city_n &_o all_o that_o grow_v upon_o the_o earth_n be_v destroy_v in_o this_o overthrow_n last_o the_o cause_n of_o this_o sudden_a fearful_a general_a overthrow_n which_o be_v sin_n
himself_o in_o his_o affliction_n i_o shall_v have_v be_v dumb_a 39.9_o and_o not_o have_v open_v my_o mouth_n say_v he_o because_o thou_o do_v it_o see_v his_o trouble_n come_v from_o god_n he_o confess_v he_o shall_v have_v endure_v they_o patient_o let_v we_o therefore_o learn_v what_o to_o do_v in_o the_o same_o case_n even_o to_o be_v patient_a in_o our_o great_a trouble_n because_o god_n unable_a she_o make_v herself_o to_o make_v her_o escape_n if_o she_o be_v at_o liberty_n even_o so_o the_o party_n afflict_v not_o know_v or_o acknowledge_v from_o whence_o his_o affliction_n come_v the_o more_o he_o labour_v to_o recover_v and_o rid_v himself_o out_o of_o his_o trouble_n the_o more_o he_o inwrap_v himself_o into_o trouble_n the_o more_o mean_n he_o use_v of_o his_o own_o devise_v to_o relieve_v himself_o the_o less_o comfort_n do_v he_o feel_v and_o the_o heavy_a be_v his_o cross_n unto_o he_o but_o as_o the_o ship_n which_o by_o the_o violent_a course_n of_o a_o springtide_n be_v drive_v upon_o the_o main_a do_v patient_o abide_v till_o the_o next_o springtide_n come_v and_o fetch_v she_o off_o know_v that_o as_o she_o be_v drive_v upon_o the_o ground_n by_o the_o tide_n so_o she_o must_v be_v bring_v off_o with_o a_o tide_n so_o that_o person_n which_o be_v cross_v or_o afflict_v know_v that_o his_o affliction_n come_v from_o god_n do_v patient_o endure_v they_o know_v that_o he_o which_o lay_v his_o affliction_n upon_o he_o can_v also_o in_o his_o good_a time_n remove_v they_o from_o he_o last_o to_o acknowledge_v god_n to_o be_v the_o author_n of_o our_o affliction_n 3._o stir_v we_o up_o more_o due_o &_o serious_o to_o serve_v &_o please_v he_o according_a to_o his_o wil._n if_o there_o can_v have_v be_v find_v but_o 10._o righteous_a man_n in_o sodom_n the_o lord_n will_v have_v spare_v the_o whole_a city_n for_o those_o ten_o sake_n so_o if_o the_o lord_n find_v any_o thing_n in_o we_o that_o be_v agreeable_a to_o his_o will_n or_o acceptable_a in_o his_o sight_n he_o will_v not_o punish_v we_o nor_o afflict_v we_o nor_o cross_v we_o further_o than_o may_v be_v for_o his_o glory_n and_o our_o good_a none_o can_v promise_v to_o himself_o though_o he_o be_v never_o so_o righteous_a that_o he_o shall_v be_v free_a from_o affliction_n but_o the_o affliction_n of_o god_n child_n be_v gentle_a chastisement_n they_o come_v from_o the_o love_n of_o a_o father_n and_o not_o from_o the_o rigour_n of_o a_o judge_n we_o never_o read_v that_o ever_o he_o rain_v down_o fire_n &_o brimstone_n upon_o the_o godly_a but_o if_o at_o any_o time_n he_o do_v correct_v they_o his_o correction_n be_v mild_a fatherly_a and_o tend_v to_o amendment_n and_o not_o to_o their_o destruction_n if_o therefore_o thou_o will_v have_v god_n favourable_a and_o kind_a and_o good_a unto_o thou_o serve_v he_o fear_v he_o &_o please_v he_o so_o if_o he_o do_v chastise_v thou_o it_o shall_v be_v for_o thy_o good_a and_o not_o bring_v upon_o sodom_n and_o gomorrha_n and_o that_o be_v fire_n and_o brimstone_n fire_n which_o as_o we_o say_v have_v no_o mercy_n fire_n from_o heaven_n which_o be_v more_o fierce_a &_o fearful_a than_o other_o fire_n fire_n mingle_v with_o brimstone_n whereby_o the_o fire_n become_v more_o furious_a and_o terrible_a and_o the_o whole_a land_n make_v barren_a and_o fruitless_a for_o ever_o and_o this_o mercylesse_a fierce_a &_o terrible_a fire_n mingle_v with_o brimstone_n come_v from_o heaven_n in_o a_o shower_n of_o rain_n but_o never_o be_v there_o such_o a_o shower_n of_o rain_n fall_v upon_o the_o earth_n this_o be_v a_o rain_n not_o to_o cool_v and_o refresh_v the_o earth_n but_o to_o burn_v and_o consume_v the_o earth_n and_o the_o inhabitant_n thereof_o this_o be_v a_o rain_n not_o to_o make_v the_o earth_n fruitful_a but_o to_o make_v it_o fruitless_a for_o evermore_o this_o be_v a_o rain_n not_o to_o moisten_v the_o earth_n nor_o to_o make_v it_o spring_n and_o bring_v forth_o thing_n necessary_a for_o man_n use_n but_o it_o be_v a_o rain_n to_o skorch_v and_o parch_v the_o earth_n and_o to_o destroy_v both_o man_n and_o beast_n from_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n 7.12_o for_o it_o rain_v fire_n and_o brimstone_n from_o heaven_n in_o the_o destruction_n of_o the_o old_a world_n we_o read_v that_o it_o rain_v upon_o the_o earth_n forty_o day_n and_o fortynight_n but_o it_o be_v water_n simple_o without_o any_o other_o mixture_n 9.23_o among_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o plague_n of_o egypt_n rain_n be_v one_o but_o it_o rain_v hailstone_n &_o fire_n mingle_v with_o the_o hail_n and_o that_o rain_v hurt_v nothing_o but_o what_o be_v in_o the_o field_n but_o this_o rain_n which_o fall_v upon_o sodom_n be_v not_o water_n but_o fire_n nor_o hail_v mingle_v with_o fire_n but_o fire_n mingle_v with_o brimstone_n and_o it_o do_v not_o only_o destroy_v that_o which_o be_v in_o the_o field_n but_o whatsoever_o be_v either_o in_o field_n or_o city_n within_o the_o house_n or_o without_o at_o home_n or_o abroad_o be_v destroy_v with_o this_o rain_n man_n woman_n and_o child_n beast_n and_o cattle_n tree_n and_o herb_n all_o perish_a with_o this_o rain_n and_o the_o more_o strange_a be_v y_o e_o manner_n of_o this_o judgement_n because_o it_o be_v say_v that_o brimstone_n come_v from_o heaven_n we_o often_o read_v of_o brimstone_n in_o hell_n but_o it_o be_v very_o strange_a that_o a_o thing_n of_o so_o stink_a and_o odious_a a_o smell_n as_o brimstone_n be_v shall_v come_v from_o such_o a_o sweet_a and_o pleasant_a place_n as_o heaven_n be_v lamentable_a and_o rueful_a have_v be_v the_o divastation_n &_o overthrow_n of_o diverse_a city_n in_o the_o world_n as_o of_o troy_n carthage_n jerusalem_n thebes_n and_o such_o like_a insomuch_o as_o the_o very_a relation_n of_o their_o ruin_n have_v move_v man_n heart_n to_o pity_v the_o perplex_a estate_n of_o all_o degree_n distress_v with_o such_o desolation_n but_o the_o the_o condition_n of_o war_n and_o no_o strange_a thing_n have_v happen_v to_o these_o city_n but_o such_o as_o have_v be_v common_a to_o other_o city_n in_o their_o overthrow_n if_o the_o lord_n have_v send_v a_o famine_n upon_o the_o people_n of_o these_o city_n of_o sodom_n &_o gomorrha_n &_o break_v their_o staff_n of_o bread_n and_o diminish_v the_o oil_n in_o the_o cruse_v and_o the_o meal_n in_o the_o barrel_n and_o have_v dry_v up_o all_o their_o spring_n &_o fountain_n so_o that_o they_o have_v be_v enforce_v to_o have_v eat_v and_o drink_v their_o own_o excrement_n every_o man_n to_o have_v eat_v the_o flesh_n of_o his_o own_o arm_n and_o every_o mother_n the_o child_n of_o her_o own_o womb_n this_o have_v be_v very_o miserable_a yet_o such_o as_o diverse_a other_o people_n beside_o have_v taste_v of_o but_o this_o people_n be_v otherwise_o surprise_v it_o be_v no_o mortal_a enemy_n but_o the_o immortal_a god_n that_o fight_v against_o this_o people_n the_o heaven_n send_v down_o their_o force_n against_o this_o people_n and_o therefore_o in_o vain_a be_v it_o to_o lift_v up_o hand_n head_z or_o eye_n towards_o heaven_n because_o from_o thence_o come_v their_o destruction_n if_o a_o enemy_n of_o the_o same_o mould_n that_o this_o people_n be_v of_o have_v besiege_v they_o there_o may_v have_v be_v some_o treaty_n some_o parley_n some_o condition_n of_o peace_n of_o depart_v with_o bag_n and_o
mourning_n yet_o her_o plague_n shall_v come_v upon_o she_o in_o one_o day_n death_n sorrow_n and_o famine_n and_o she_o shall_v be_v burn_v with_o fire_n the_o disciple_n wonder_v at_o the_o fair_a and_o goodly_a build_n of_o the_o temple_n but_o our_o saviour_n christ_n tell_v they_o that_o there_o shall_v a_o time_n come_v even_o the_o time_n when_o god_n shall_v visit_v that_o people_n for_o whole_a land_n yet_o if_o god_n once_o visit_v this_o land_n and_o city_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o inhabitant_n thereof_o neither_o this_o nor_o that_o neither_o the_o largeness_n of_o their_o territory_n nor_o their_o beauty_n excellency_n riches_n or_o multitude_n of_o people_n shall_v excuse_v they_o but_o he_o will_v make_v they_o as_o sodom_n and_o like_v unto_o gomorrha_n if_o god_n be_v in_o the_o city_n even_o all_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o those_o city_n be_v overthrow_v in_o this_o destruction_n so_o that_o as_o god_n spare_v no_o place_n for_o any_o respect_n of_o outward_a excellency_n no_o more_o do_v he_o spare_v any_o person_n for_o his_o own_o worthiness_n or_o eminency_n but_o when_o he_o bring_v his_o judgement_n upon_o man_n for_o sin_n the_o wise_a and_o the_o the_o lord_n bring_v upon_o this_o country_n and_o people_n it_o be_v say_v overthrow_n that_o he_o destroy_v all_o that_o grow_v upon_o the_o earth_n or_o as_o tremelius_fw-la have_v learned_o translate_v the_o same_o word_n thus_o all_o that_o the_o earth_n bring_v forth_o and_o nourish_v all_o cattle_n and_o beast_n of_o the_o field_n all_o creep_a thing_n and_o whatsoever_o be_v upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n be_v destroy_v in_o this_o overthrow_n and_o here_o we_o may_v just_o wonder_v at_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n which_o he_o extend_v not_o only_o unto_o man_n which_o have_v judgement_n &_o will_n nor_o unto_o babe_n and_o suckling_n which_o be_v taint_v with_o corruption_n by_o the_o propagation_n of_o nature_n from_o their_o parent_n but_o also_o to_o but_o sin_n and_o sin_v it_o be_v that_o move_v the_o lord_n to_o revenge_v himself_o thus_o severe_o upon_o this_o land_n and_o people_n as_o it_o appear_v by_o the_o word_n of_o almighty_a god_n to_o abraham_n 18.20_o because_o the_o cry_n of_o sodom_n and_o gomorrah_n be_v great_a and_o because_o their_o sin_n be_v exceed_o grievous_a i_o will_v go_v down_o now_o say_v the_o lord_n sin_n nobility_n of_o his_o dignity_n and_o greatness_n of_o his_o wealth_n and_o riches_n of_o his_o credit_n and_o estimation_n of_o his_o learning_n and_o wisdom_n of_o his_o apparel_n of_o his_o costly_a and_o goodly_a building_n or_o whatsoever_o else_o be_v the_o object_n of_o his_o pride_n he_o do_v not_o only_o set_v his_o heart_n upon_o it_o himself_o seek_v all_o mean_n to_o uphold_v
