of_o the_o almighty_a god_n in_o send_v so_o cold_a and_o unkind_o a_o season_n and_o seed_n time_n after_o two_o year_n scarcity_n and_o dearth_n as_o also_o the_o great_a death_n of_o cattle_n through_o most_o part_n of_o the_o kingdom_n and_o grow_a dearth_n and_o famine_n threaten_v do_v all_o express_v his_o high_a displeasure_n against_o this_o land_n and_o provoke_v he_o to_o multiply_v and_o inflict_v these_o and_o heavy_a judgement_n as_o the_o just_a deserve_n and_o effect_n of_o the_o sin_n abound_v in_o this_o nation_n and_o of_o the_o great_a security_n and_o impenitency_n under_o they_o and_o therefore_o do_v certain_o call_v aloud_o for_o our_o own_o and_o our_o people_n deep_a humiliation_n under_o the_o mighty_a hand_n of_o god_n and_o our_o most_o earnest_a and_o solemn_a application_n by_o fast_v and_o prayer_n for_o his_o gracious_a pardon_n and_o remove_v and_o avert_v the_o foresaid_n judgement_n and_o turn_v we_o sincere_o to_o the_o lord_n upon_o which_o consideration_n the_o provincial_a synod_n of_o lothian_n and_o tweddale_n with_o a_o commity_n of_o the_o commission_n from_o the_o general_n assembly_n have_v likewise_o address_v the_o lord_n of_o our_o privy_a council_n that_o a_o day_n of_o humiliation_n may_v be_v appoint_v and_o keep_v for_o these_o cause_n and_o other_o mention_v in_o their_o say_a address_n throughout_o the_o whole_a kingdom_n therefore_o we_o with_o the_o advice_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o our_o privy_a council_n command_v and_o appoint_v a_o day_n of_o humiliation_n fast_v and_o prayer_n to_o be_v keep_v and_o observe_v within_o the_o bound_n of_o the_o provincial_a synod_n of_o lothian_n and_o tweddale_n upon_o tuesday_n the_o seventeen_o day_n of_o this_o current_a month_n of_o may_n and_o upon_o the_o twenty_o five_o day_n of_o the_o say_a month_n for_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o kingdom_n upon_o this_o side_n of_o the_o river_n of_o tay_n and_o throughout_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o whole_a kingdom_n upon_o the_o first_o day_n of_o june_n nixt_v to_o come_v upon_o which_o day_n respective_a we_o and_o our_o people_n be_v to_o be_v deep_o humble_v before_o god_n for_o the_o manifold_a sin_n and_o provocation_n that_o so_o open_o abound_v in_o the_o land_n and_o in_o which_o man_n still_o continue_v secure_a and_o harden_a notwithstanding_o of_o god_n great_a mercy_n and_o deliverance_n wrought_v for_o we_o and_o of_o frequent_a confession_n and_o former_a fast_n which_o yet_o have_v produce_v no_o amendment_n or_o reformation_n and_o therefore_o to_o avert_v the_o judgement_n hang_v over_o we_o and_o other_o evil_n wherewith_o we_o be_v so_o eminent_o threaten_v and_o send_v kind_o wether_n to_o cherish_v the_o fruit_n of_o the_o earth_n for_o food_n to_o man_n and_o beast_n which_o respective_a day_n of_o solemn_a humiliation_n and_o prayer_n above_o appoint_v we_o with_o advice_n foresay_a require_v and_o command_v to_o be_v most_o religious_o and_o serious_o observe_v by_o all_o our_o people_n by_o public_a prayer_n preach_v and_o all_o other_o act_n of_o deep_a humiliation_n and_o devotion_n suitable_a to_o the_o foresaid_n cause_n and_o occasion_n our_o will_n be_v herefore_o and_o we_o charge_v you_o strict_o and_o command_v that_o incontinent_a their_o our_a letter_n see_v you_o pass_v to_o the_o mercat_n cross_n of_o edinburgh_n and_o to_o the_o remanent_fw-la mercat-cross_n of_o the_o head_n burgh_n of_o the_o several_a shire_n and_o stevartry_n within_o this_o kingdom_n and_o there_o in_o our_o name_n and_o
