7._o we_o have_v somewhat_o more_o speak_v concern_v the_o governor_n of_o judah_n by_o way_n of_o prophecy_n and_o that_o be_v god_n glorious_a appearance_n for_o they_o and_o in_o their_o behalf_n they_o no_o soon_o come_v to_o own_o the_o people_n of_o god_n though_o it_o be_v but_o secret_o to_o say_v sure_o these_o be_v god_n people_n here_o lie_v our_o strength_n we_o will_v therefore_o stick_v to_o these_o but_o present_o god_n stick_v to_o they_o and_o appear_v for_o they_o and_o make_v they_o terrible_a to_o all_o they_o and_o his_o people_n adversary_n no_o soon_o do_v any_o state_n own_o god_n people_n but_o he_o own_v they_o now_o what_o be_v it_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o governor_n of_o judah_n why_o this_o i_o will_v make_v the_o governor_n of_o judah_n like_o a_o hearth_n of_o fire_n you_o know_v take_v ever_o so_o much_o wood_n and_o lay_v it_o on_o a_o hearth_n of_o fire_n and_o the_o hearth_n of_o fire_n make_v away_o with_o it_o and_o it_o be_v consume_v and_o take_v a_o sheaf_n or_o stack_n of_o corn_n though_o ever_o so_o great_a and_o put_v but_o a_o torch_n into_o it_o and_o that_o will_v consume_v it_o all_o immediate_o so_o say_v god_n shall_v the_o governor_n of_o judab_n be_v they_o shall_v consume_v and_o devour_v all_o the_o people_n on_o the_o right_a hand_n and_o on_o the_o left_a etc._n etc._n we_o see_v here_o by_o the_o by_o what_o be_v the_o way_n to_o make_v a_o state_n or_o a_o kingdom_n happy_a to_o make_v they_o prosperous_a and_o terrible_a to_o all_o god_n enemy_n why_o to_o own_o the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o vers_fw-la 8._o we_o have_v a_o precious_a prophetical_a promise_n make_v to_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n as_o of_o god_n protection_n over_o they_o in_o that_o day_n shall_v the_o lord_n defend_v so_o likewise_o of_o his_o wonderful_a blessing_n that_o shall_v in_o the_o last_o day_n be_v upon_o they_o in_o the_o abundant_a increase_n of_o their_o gift_n and_o grace_n god_n will_v not_o only_o preserve_v their_o body_n from_o the_o rage_n and_o fury_n of_o wicked_a man_n but_o he_o will_v exceed_o enrich_v their_o soul_n with_o the_o heavenly_a blessing_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o spirit_n as_o david_n i.e._n as_o the_o most_o eminent_a of_o all_o informer_n age_n for_o david_n be_v the_o most_o eminent_a in_o his_o age_n and_o the_o house_n of_o david_n shall_v be_v as_o god_n that_o be_v such_o as_o before_o be_v eminent_a in_o gift_n and_o grace_n shall_v now_o have_v their_o gift_n and_o grace_n so_o exceed_o increase_v that_o they_o shall_v seem_v rather_o like_o angel_n the_o house_n of_o david_n by_o which_o may_v be_v understand_v man_n of_o a_o high_a rank_n the_o house_n of_o david_n be_v the_o royal_a house_n and_o those_o that_o come_v there_o of_o be_v of_o the_o blood-royal_a and_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n i.e._n man_n of_o a_o low_a rank_n the_o meaning_n be_v god_n will_v in_o these_o day_n pour_v out_o his_o spirit_n upon_o all_o sort_n high_a and_o low_a prince_n and_o people_n as_o joel_n say_v chap._n 2._o end_n all_o flesh_n these_o word_n literal_o they_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o jew_n when_o they_o shall_v be_v convert_v spiritual_o they_o belong_v to_o christian_n 3_o what_o he_o pour_v the_o spirit_n which_o have_v here_o two_o thing_n attribute_v to_o it_o or_o two_o title_n give_v it_o first_o a_o spirit_n of_o grace_n so_o call_v either_o because_o it_o be_v the_o original_n or_o begetter_n of_o all_o grace_n in_o we_o or_o because_o it_o be_v give_v we_o of_o grace_n the_o gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v from_o the_o next_o of_o supplication_n because_o prayer_n or_o supplication_n be_v one_o special_a grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o if_o we_o take_v the_o first_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n that_o be_v so_o call_v because_o it_o beget_v grace_n than_o the_o latter_a viz._n supplication_n which_o be_v one_o special_a grace_n beget_v by_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o saint_n be_v include_v in_o it_o unless_o we_o shall_v take_v the_o first_o of_o grace_n for_o the_o habit_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v first_o wrought_v in_o the_o soul_n by_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o latter_a or_o supplication_n for_o the_o act_n of_o those_o grace_n one_o spiritual_a work_n wherein_o much_o grace_n be_v exercise_v be_v put_v for_o the_o exercise_n of_o all_o grace_n 4_o when_o he_o pour_v this_o though_o it_o be_v out_o of_o the_o text_n yet_o it_o be_v a_o necessary_a question_n and_o it_o be_v answer_v in_o the_o foregoing_a verse_n where_o the_o time_n in_o which_o god_n will_v do_v this_o be_v call_v that_o day_n it_o be_v a_o phrase_n which_o be_v much_o use_v in_o the_o prophet_n no_o less_o than_o forty_o time_n as_o i_o take_v it_o in_o isaiah_n and_o near_o twenty_o in_o this_o prophet_n and_o it_o be_v call_v that_o day_n for_o eminency_n sake_n because_o this_o time_n when_o it_o shall_v come_v it_o shall_v be_v a_o very_a eminent_a and_o remarkable_a time_n such_o never_o see_v and_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v that_o day_n 1_o note_v a_o eminent_a glorious_a day_n far_o excel_v all_o day_n that_o ever_o have_v go_v before_o it_o and_o when_o it_o be_v call_v a_o day_n we_o be_v not_o to_o understand_v it_o a_o natural_a day_n i._n e._n consist_v of_o twenty_o four_o hour_n nor_o of_o a_o ordinary_a prophetical_a day_n that_o be_v a_o day_n for_o a_o one_o day_n now_o the_o time_n which_o be_v set_v forth_o in_o scripture_n by_o this_o phrase_n of_o speech_n that_o day_n be_v sometime_o take_v for_o a_o large_a sometime_o for_o a_o strict_a time_n sometime_o it_o be_v take_v so_o strict_o that_o it_o may_v contain_v not_o much_o more_o time_n if_o so_o much_o as_o a_o mere_a natural_a day_n and_o so_o we_o have_v the_o day_n of_o that_o great_a battle_n of_o armageddon_n often_o call_v where_o it_o be_v speak_v of_o that_o day_n rev._n 16.14_o and_o joel_n 3._o and_o other_o place_n sometime_o it_o be_v take_v strict_o but_o not_o so_o strict_o and_o then_o it_o be_v put_v for_o the_o whole_a time_n of_o christ_n kingdom_n here_o on_o earth_n from_o the_o time_n that_o he_o set_v up_o his_o kingdom_n to_o the_o end_n and_o this_o be_v so_o frequent_o speak_v of_o in_o the_o prophet_n that_o i_o need_v name_n no_o place_n only_o i_o will_v turn_v you_o to_o one_o because_o not_o far_o from_o the_o text_n zach._n 14.6_o 7_o 8_o 9_o and_o it_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v in_o that_o day_n that_o the_o light_n shall_v not_o be_v clear_a nor_o dark_a but_o it_o shall_v be_v one_o day_n which_o shall_v be_v know_v to_o the_o gospel_n the_o ruin_n of_o antichrist_n and_o the_o call_v of_o the_o jew_n which_o if_o it_o be_v not_o before_o yet_o it_o shall_v be_v just_a upon_o christ_n set_v up_o of_o his_o kingdom_n and_o so_o may_v have_v reference_n to_o the_o time_n before_o or_o after_o the_o last_o day_n or_o the_o time_n of_o christ_n kingdom_n and_o in_o this_o sense_n it_o be_v here_o to_o be_v take_v as_o i_o conceive_v for_o the_o time_n just_a upon_o christ_n set_v up_o his_o kingdom_n when_o god_n people_n enemy_n shall_v be_v ruin_v the_o jew_n call_v and_o mourn_v as_o here_o we_o read_v of_o 2_o a_o glorious_a effect_n follow_v this_o effusion_n or_o pour_v forth_o of_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v twofold_a 1_o upon_o the_o sense_n they_o shall_v look_v upon_o i_o who_o they_o have_v pierce_v which_o word_n literal_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o jew_n who_o at_o the_o time_n of_o their_o call_n shall_v behold_v that_o jesus_n christ_n who_o their_o nation_n have_v pierce_v spiritual_o it_o be_v expression_n show_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v a_o exceed_a great_a mourning_n and_o that_o so_o too_o as_o it_o shall_v stick_v by_o they_o it_o shall_v not_o light_o pass_v off_o their_o spirit_n and_o glide_v away_o and_o so_o be_v forget_v and_o there_o be_v no_o more_o of_o it_o as_o other_o sorrow_n do_v but_o it_o shall_v be_v a_o exceed_a great_a and_o a_o remain_a mourning_n of_o which_o more_o be_v speak_v in_o the_o next_o verse_n the_o word_n thus_o open_v yield_v we_o several_a useful_a observation_n obs_n 1._o that_o the_o pour_v out_o of_o the_o spirit_n upon_o any_o it_o forth_o and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o god_n have_v great_a work_n to_o do_v in_o the_o last_o day_n and_o the_o church_n come_v near_a to_o man_n estate_n and_o the_o people_n of_o god_n have_v more_o and_o great_a enemy_n to_o encounter_v with_o than_o in_o former_a time_n they_o have_v and_o therefore_o god_n give_v they_o more_o of_o the_o spirit_n what_o a_o mercy_n than_o be_v it_o to_o be_v bring_v forth_o and_o to_o live_v in_o the_o last_o day_n and_o how_o do_v it_o call_v upon_o we_o all_o the_o near_a these_o time_n draw_v on_o to_o be_v the_o more_o spiritual_a thus_o much_o for_o the_o observation_n from_o the_o first_o part_n of_o the_o word_n i_o come_v now_o to_o the_o second_o the_o effect_n of_o this_o pour_v forth_o of_o the_o spirit_n they_o shall_v look_v on_o he_o who_o they_o have_v pierce_v observe_v 7._o the_o sin_n of_o believer_n do_v pierce_v jesus_n christ_n this_o be_v imply_v in_o that_o they_o look_v upon_o he_o who_o they_o have_v when_o we_o come_v to_o treat_v of_o the_o new_a covenant_n if_o you_o ask_v i_o wherein_o or_o in_o what_o thing_n do_v this_o conditionality_n of_o the_o old_a covenant_n appear_v i_o answer_v in_o the_o whole_a of_o it_o whatsoever_o the_o old_a covenant_n hold_v forth_o or_o give_v to_o those_o under_o it_o it_o hold_v forth_o and_o give_v in_o a_o conditional_a way_n the_o old_a covenant_n be_v rich_a have_v its_o hand_n full_a or_o mercy_n and_o blessing_n but_o will_v give_v forth_o none_o but_o upon_o condition_n as_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o new_a covenant_n so_o great_a but_o that_o covenant_n give_v it_o forth_o free_o so_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o old_a covenant_n so_o small_a which_o it_o will_v part_v with_o or_o let_v go_v without_o the_o performance_n of_o some_o condition_n by_o he_o who_o will_v enjoy_v its_o gift_n this_o will_v better_o appear_v if_o we_o consider_v how_o that_o this_o old_a covenant_n have_v two_o great_a gift_n to_o bestow_v 1_o a_o gift_n of_o blessing_n which_o it_o give_v forth_o upon_o condition_n of_o exact_a and_o perfect_a obedience_n to_o all_o those_o thing_n that_o those_o under_o the_o same_o do_v by_o virtue_n either_o of_o moral_a or_o judicial_a precept_n stand_v oblige_v to_o perform_v 2_o a_o gift_n of_o grace_n by_o which_o in_o case_n their_o blessing_n through_o disobedience_n either_o to_o any_o of_o the_o moral_a or_o judicial_a command_n shall_v become_v forfeit_a or_o lose_v and_o themselves_o bring_v under_o the_o contrary_a curse_n they_o may_v again_o recover_v their_o blessing_n and_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o curse_n but_o this_o also_o be_v upon_o condition_n of_o their_o fly_v for_o refuge_n to_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n do_v that_o thing_n which_o the_o say_a law_n do_v repentance_n for_o their_o offence_n and_o reformation_n of_o it_o under_o these_o two_o head_n viz._n the_o blessing_n of_o the_o old_a covenant_n and_o the_o grace_n of_o it_o be_v comprehend_v the_o whole_a of_o the_o old_a covenant_n and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v treat_v of_o each_o several_o concern_v both_o which_o i_o may_v say_v as_o the_o apostle_n when_o he_o be_v about_o to_o treat_v of_o the_o melchisedaical_a priesthood_n of_o which_o we_o have_v many_o thing_n to_o say_v and_o hard_o to_o be_v utter_v first_o for_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o old_a covenant_n they_o be_v of_o two_o sort_n 1_o blessing_n outward_a and_o temporal_a 2_o blessing_n spiritual_a and_o eternal_a but_o both_o upon_o condition_n first_o for_o those_o blessing_n that_o be_v outward_a and_o temporary_a they_o be_v also_o of_o two_o sort_n either_o first_o blessing_n more_o common_a by_o which_o i_o understand_v such_o blessing_n as_o though_o israel_n with_o who_o this_o old_a covenant_n be_v make_v do_v enjoy_v they_o by_o virtue_n of_o the_o old_a covenant_n yet_o be_v they_o not_o peculiar_a to_o the_o child_n of_o the_o old_a covenant_n for_o even_o other_o beside_o they_o do_v oftentimes_o enjoy_v they_o by_o virtue_n of_o common_a providence_n as_o they_o be_v blessing_n give_v by_o covenant_n they_o be_v peculiar_a to_o they_o but_o as_o blessing_n they_o be_v common_a and_o of_o such_o a_o nature_n that_o other_o who_o stand_v not_o under_o this_o old_a covenant_n as_o they_o do_v do_v yet_o notwithstanding_o through_o the_o mere_a bounty_n of_o common_a providence_n oftentimes_o partake_v of_o they_o now_o these_o be_v 1_o long_a life_n in_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n this_o be_v give_v upon_o condition_n of_o obedience_n and_o therefore_o
