A67544 God's great and vvonderful vvork in Somerset-shire the charitable farmer miraculously rewarded h[a]ppening at Welling within three miles of the city of Wells this last harvest, where an honest Godly farmer having sold most part of this last summer and winter great quantities of corn to the poor in their distress at five or six shillings the bushel, when the market price was ten and eleven shillings; for which he was much derided and scoft at by his rich neighbours, he was recompensed by an extraordinary crop of wheat, the like was never before heard; of each stalk of straw having divers full large ears, some nine, ten and thirteen, but generally ten ears on every straw throughout the field which was ten acres and upwards; of which ears are to be seen at divers coffy-houses by the Royal Exchange, and at other places in London, published as a grateful acknowledgement to the goodness of providence, and to stir up all into faith in God, and charity towards their poor neighbours from the consideration of so remarkable an example. god_n great_a and_o wondered_a work_n in_o somersetshire_n the_o charitable_a farmer_n miraculous_o reward_v happen_v at_o welling_n within_o three_o mile_n of_o the_o city_n of_o well_n this_o last_o harvest_n where_o a_o honest_a godly_a farmer_n have_v sell_v most_o part_n of_o this_o last_o summer_n and_o winter_n great_a quantity_n of_o corn_n to_o the_o poor_a in_o their_o distress_n at_o five_o or_o six_o shilling_n the_o bushel_n when_o the_o market_n price_n be_v ten_o and_o eleven_o shilling_n for_o which_o he_o be_v much_o deride_v and_o scoff_v at_o by_o his_o rich_a neighbour_n he_o be_v recompense_v by_o a_o extraordinary_a crop_n of_o wheat_n the_o like_a be_v never_o before_o hear_v of_o each_o stalk_n of_o straw_n have_v divers_a full_a large_a ear_n some_o nine_o ten_o and_o thirteen_o but_o general_o ten_o ear_n on_o every_o straw_n throughout_o the_o field_n which_o be_v ten_o acre_n and_o upward_o of_o which_o ear_n be_v to_o be_v see_v at_o divers_a coffy-house_n by_o the_o royal_a exchange_n and_o at_o other_o place_n in_o london_n publish_v as_o a_o grateful_a acknowledgement_n to_o the_o goodness_n of_o providence_n and_o to_o stir_v up_o all_o into_o faith_n in_o god_n and_o charity_n towards_o their_o poor_a neighbour_n from_o the_o consideration_n of_o so_o remarkable_a a_o example_n the_o tune_n be_v aim_v not_o too_o high_a some_o be_v put_v to_o such_o great_a want_n and_o need_v on_o pease_n and_o bean_n like_o horse_n they_o do_v feed_v poor_a little_a child_n stand_v with_o weep_a eye_n and_o few_o there_o be_v that_o do_v regard_v their_o cry_n in_o somersetshire_n a_o honest_a man_n do_v dwell_v who_o always_o love_v poor_a people_n very_o well_o when_o some_o beguile_v widow_n and_o fatherless_a this_o man_n relieve_v many_o in_o distress_n when_o wheat_n be_v sell_v at_o market_n round_o about_o for_o ten_o or_o eleven_o shilling_n a_o strike_v throughout_o unto_o the_o poor_a this_o man_n be_v do_v not_o grudge_v to_o sell_v for_o five_o and_o six_o his_o love_n be_v such_o the_o second_o part_n to_o the_o same_o tune_n which_o make_v poor_a people_n flock_n to_o he_o a_o main_a for_o half_a their_o charge_n with_o bread_n he_o do_v maintain_v beside_o what_o he_o can_v spare_v he_o free_o give_v unto_o the_o poor_a they_o need_v not_o stand_v to_o crave_v for_o which_o some_o rich_a man_n envy_v he_o full_a sore_n and_o say_v be_v simple_o part_v with_o his_o store_n and_o tell_v he_o plain_o if_o he_o have_v not_o give_v over_o he_o may_v be_v force_v to_o beg_v from_o door_n to_o door_n to_o which_o this_o good_a samriitan_n do_v say_v i_o shall_v not_o want_v for_o this_o another_o day_n for_o when_o the_o lord_n do_v send_v man_n blessing_n store_n he_o be_v no_o more_o than_o stuard_v for_o the_o poor_a beside_o quoth_v he_o scripture_n it_o do_v record_v he_o which_o give_v to_o the_o poor_a lend_v to_o the_o lord_n and_o god_n above_o will_v pay_v he_o ten_o time_n more_o than_o what_o in_o charity_n he_o give_v the_o poor_a and_o now_o to_o see_v the_o mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n what_o love_v he_o to_o his_o servant_n do_v aford_v a_o wonder_n strange_a i'm_n go_v now_o to_o name_v it_o will_v amaze_v you_o all_o to_o hear_v the_o same_o for_o this_o same_o man_n have_v such_o a_o crap_n of_o wheat_n the_o like_o no_o mortal_a man_n before_o do_v reap_v nine_o ten_o eleven_o and_o thirteen_o ear_n it_o yield_v on_o every_o stalk_n or_o straw_n throughout_o the_o field_n ten_o acre_n and_o above_o of_o this_o same_o ground_n that_o bear_v this_o wheat_n the_o like_v not_o to_o be_v find_v the_o corn_n be_v good_a and_o heavy_a in_o the_o head_n and_o eat_v as_o well_o as_o any_o be_v make_v in_o bread_n in_o thresh_v now_o they_o find_v so_o much_o in_o store_n as_o ere_o they_o do_v in_o ten_o year_n crap_n before_o it_o make_v all_o stand_v amaze_v for_o to_o see_v how_o god_n have_v bless_v this_o man_n charity_n hundred_o of_o people_n round_o about_o there_o come_v to_o see_v this_o wonder_n that_o hear_v of_o its_o fame_n both_o old_a and_o young_a both_o rich_a and_o poor_a do_v cry_v the_o like_a be_v never_o see_v with_o mortal_a eye_n look_v on_o the_o picture_n and_o hear_v take_v a_o view_n of_o this_o same_o pattern_n which_o be_v carve_v true_a it_o plain_o show_v the_o several_a ear_n that_o grow_v upon_o one_o straw_n believe_v for_o it_o be_v true_a you_o covetous_a miser_n which_o do_v grip_n &_o grind_v the_o poor_a which_o can_v of_o you_o no_o favour_n find_v poor_a labourer_n that_o work_v hard_a day_n and_o night_n to_o stop_v their_o wage_n many_o take_v delight_n and_o you_o that_o have_v great_a yearly_a rent_n come_v in_o to_o love_v the_o poor_a it_o be_v high_a time_n to_o begin_v do_v good_a with_o what_o the_o lord_n have_v give_v to_o thou_o and_o god_n above_o will_v thy_o rewarder_n be_v but_o pride_n &_o tavern_n now_o have_v all_o the_o gain_n and_o poor_a man_n cry_n in_o heart_n they_o do_v disdain_n how_o many_o pound_n do_v some_o spend_v on_o a_o whore_n and_o will_v not_o give_v one_o shilling_n to_o the_o poor_a so_o to_o conclude_v of_o this_o here_o i_o have_v pen_v hope_v the_o truth_n do_v no_o body_n offend_v but_o keep_v in_o mind_n still_o what_o to_o you_o i_o say_v the_o king_n and_o beggar_n both_o be_v lump_n of_o clay_n by_o l.w._n
