crime_n be_v commit_v and_o by_o any_o law_n yet_o make_v i_o do_v not_o believe_v he_o be_v guilty_a of_o treason_n however_o the_o bill_n of_o attainder_n pass_v in_o the_o house_n of_o commons_o and_o mr._n sir_n john_n endeavour_v to_o satisfy_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o reasonableness_n thereof_o to_o induce_v they_o to_o pass_v it_o for_o say_v he_o though_o the_o proof_n at_o the_o trial_n be_v insufficient_a and_o nothing_o but_o legal_a evidence_n can_v prevail_v in_o judicature_n yet_o by_o this_o way_n both_o lord_n and_o commons_o may_v proceed_v by_o the_o light_n of_o their_o own_o conscience_n although_o no_o evidence_n be_v give_v at_o all_o and_o after_o many_o aggravation_n of_o the_o earl_n offence_n in_o subvert_v our_o law_n as_o he_o affirm_v he_o conclude_v thus_o '_o he_o that_o will_v not_o have_v have_v other_o have_v any_o law_n shall_v have_v none_o himself_o it_o be_v true_a we_o give_v law_n to_o hare_n and_o d_o you_o because_o they_o be_v beast_n of_o chase_n it_o be_v never_o account_v cruelty_n or_o foul_a play_n to_o knock_v fox_n or_o wolf_n on_o the_o head_n as_o they_o can_v be_v find_v because_o these_o be_v beast_n of_o prey_n the_o warrenner_n set_v trap_n for_o powl-cat_n and_o other_o vermin_n for_o preservation_n of_o the_o warren_n the_o lord_n after_o this_o speech_n show_v a_o great_a propensity_n towards_o the_o earl_n condemnation_n than_o before_o the_o king_n have_v a_o account_n of_o it_o come_v next_o day_n to_o the_o house_n of_o peer_n and_o send_v for_o the_o house_n of_o commons_o tell_v they_o '_o that_o judgement_n be_v ready_a to_o pass_v on_o the_o earl_n of_o strafford_n he_o think_v it_o necessary_a to_o declare_v his_o conscience_n therein_o they_o be_v sensible_a that_o he_o have_v be_v present_a at_o the_o hear_n this_o great_a cause_n from_o one_o end_n to_o the_o other_o and_o yet_o that_o in_o his_o conscience_n he_o can_v not_o condemn_v he_o of_o high_a treason_n assure_v he_o of_o the_o disloyalty_n of_o his_o english_a subject_n nor_o have_v he_o ever_o any_o suspicion_n of_o they_o that_o he_o be_v never_o counsel_v by_o any_o to_o after_o all_o or_o any_o of_o the_o law_n of_o england_n since_o if_o any_o dare_v have_v be_v so_o impudent_a he_o shall_v have_v make_v they_o example_n to_o posterity_n that_o he_o will_v be_v right_o understand_v for_o though_o in_o conscience_n he_o can_v not_o condemn_v he_o of_o high_a treason_n yet_o he_o can_v not_o clear_v he_o of_o such_o misdemeanour_n as_o he_o do_v not_o think_v he_o fit_a to_o serve_v justice_n and_o their_o own_o fear_n and_o not_o oppress_v his_o conscience_n since_o neither_o fear_n nor_o any_o other_o respect_n whatsoever_o shall_v ever_o make_v he_o act_v against_o it_o this_o speech_n relish_v so_o ill_o with_o the_o two_o house_n that_o few_o of_o they_o attend_v next_o day_n be_v sunday_n may_v 2._o on_o the_o solemnity_n of_o the_o king_n be_v elder_a daughter_n mary_n be_v marry_v to_o the_o prince_n of_o orange_n on_o monday_n five_o or_o six_o thousand_o apprentice_n and_o other_o tumultuous_a citizen_n come_v down_o to_o westminster_n to_o demand_v justice_n against_o the_o earl_n of_o strafford_n and_o petition_n subscribe_v with_o thousand_o of_o hand_n be_v present_v to_o both_o house_n about_o redress_v grievance_n soon_o after_o the_o lord_n pass_v lincoln_n urge_v that_o the_o opinion_n
