of_o faith_n as_o it_o do_v receive_v christ_n how_o that_o be_v perform_v etc._n etc._n therefore_o i_o shall_v confine_v myself_o to_o the_o text_n and_o the_o boundary_n of_o it_o to_o show_v that_o in_o all_o the_o difficulty_n the_o soul_n meet_v withal_o in_o come_v to_o christ_n faith_n bear_v the_o soul_n up_o under_o all_o and_o pray_v mark_v what_o i_o say_v i_o say_v true_a faith_n nor_o strong_a faith_n neither_o do_v i_o say_v a_o degree_n of_o faith_n but_o a_o true_a faith_n it_o be_v true_a this_o woman_n have_v great_a faith_n and_o she_o need_v it_o for_o she_o have_v great_a difficulty_n but_o the_o point_n lie_v positive_o thus_o faith_n if_o it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v that_o and_o that_o alone_a that_o carry_v up_o the_o soul_n above_o all_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n in_o its_o come_n to_o christ_n i_o suppose_v i_o need_v not_o tell_v you_o that_o there_o be_v difficulty_n in_o the_o way_n of_o come_v to_o christ_n this_o woman_n know_v there_o be_v difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n but_o what_o carry_v she_o through_o do_v her_o patience_n carry_v she_o through_o she_o have_v that_o do_v her_o reverend_a esteem_n of_o christ_n carry_v she_o through_o she_o have_v that_o do_v the_o pinch_n of_o her_o want_n carry_v she_o through_o no_o christ_n do_v not_o say_v oh_o woman_n great_a be_v thy_o patience_n or_o great_a be_v thy_o esteem_n of_o i_o or_o great_a be_v thy_o want_n but_o o_o woman_n great_a be_v thy_o faith_n it_o be_v the_o woman_n faith_n that_o carry_v she_o through_o these_o difficulty_n i_o will_v demonstrate_v this_o doctrine_n by_o some_o instance_n and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v mention_v some_o of_o the_o difficulty_n which_o be_v in_o our_o way_n to_o christ_n and_o show_v how_o that_o it_o be_v faith_n and_o faith_n alone_o by_o which_o the_o lord_n do_v use_v to_o help_v we_o against_o all_o these_o difficulty_n now_o therefore_o i_o pray_v mind_n it_o and_o you_o may_v most_o observe_v in_o our-coming_a to_o christ_n there_o be_v four_o way_n from_o whence_o our_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n do_v arise_v and_o you_o will_v see_v that_o true_a faith_n alone_o will_v carry_v the_o soul_n through_o all_o these_o the_o difficulty_n arise_v thus_o from_o 1_o self_n 2_o satan_n 3_o the_o world_n 4_o christ_n himself_o may_v do_v that_o seem_o which_o may_v and_o do_v christ_n god_n have_v appoint_v no_o other_o leg_n to_o carry_v we_o and_o because_o he_o have_v appoint_v these_o he_o will_v bless_v his_o own_o appointment_n to_o effect_v the_o work_n the_o lord_n appointment_n make_v all_o thing_n operative_a therefore_o second_o the_o reason_n be_v from_o the_o operation_n of_o faith_n in_o we_o by_o virtue_n of_o that_o appointment_n my_o belove_a faith_n it_o be_v a_o work_a grace_n and_o faith_n be_v our_o great_a strength_n in_o every_o work_a grace_n it_o convey_v strength_n unto_o all_o grace_n there_o be_v a_o threefold_a operation_n of_o faith_n to_o carry_v the_o soul_n through_o all_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n in_o its_o go_n to_o christ_n viz._n a_o enlighten_v a_o enliven_a and_o a_o embrace_v work_n in_o the_o bless_a business_n of_o close_v with_o christ_n i_o will_v a_o little_a open_v they_o all_o three_o first_o faith_n have_v a_o enlighten_v work_n a_o enlighten_v work_n be_v that_o which_o carry_v a_o man_n through_o many_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n in_o psal_n 34._o you_o have_v a_o fine_a expression_n where_o david_n be_v speak_v of_o his_o and_o other_o seek_v god_n and_o of_o their_o encouragement_n in_o that_o work_n say_v he_o in_o vers_fw-la 5._o they_o look_v unto_o he_o and_o be_v lighten_v and_o their_o face_n be_v not_o ashamed_a by_o faith_n the_o soul_n see_v the_o safe_a land_n christ_n say_v faith_n stand_v with_o outstretch_v arm_n of_o power_n and_o love_n to_o embrace_v thou_o and_o faith_n realize_v such_o a_o fight_n evidence_v it_o to_o the_o soul_n and_o so_o enable_v the_o soul_n to_o see_v it_o help_v the_o soul_n to_o go_v to_o christ_n second_o faith_n have_v not_o only_o a_o enlighten_v work_n but_o a_o inlve_a work_n my_o belove_a other_o grace_n stir_v we_o up_o and_o put_v we_o on_o to_o go_v to_o christ_n but_o faith_n do_v only_o enliven_v we_o love_n and_o humility_n do_v marvellous_o stir_v up_o the_o soul_n to_o go_v to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o so_o do_v other_o grace_n i_o but_o these_o do_v not_o feed_v the_o soul_n nor_o strengthen_v there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n between_o the_o whip_n and_o the_o meat_n you_o give_v the_o horse_n a_o whip_n a_o blow_n that_o stir_v it_o but_o do_v not_o strengthen_v it_o a_o conviction_n of_o need_n a_o fear_n of_o hell_n stir_v we_o to_o go_v to_o christ_n but_o it_o do_v not_o enable_v we_o or_o inlve_v we_o my_o belove_a faith_n be_v the_o strengthen_v grace_n the_o just_a shall_v live_v by_o faith_n heb._n 10._o there_o say_v he_o you_o bloody_a issue_n in_o luke_n 8.44_o compare_v with_o vers_n 46._o it_o be_v clear_a she_o have_v a_o faith_n and_o she_o have_v fear_n and_o she_o have_v virtue_n for_o this_o faith_n full_a of_o fear_n do_v gather_v virtue_n from_o jesus_n christ_n so_o thy_o faith_n that_o be_v full_a of_o fear_n may_v gather_v virtue_n from_o jesus_n christ_n and_o therefore_o be_v it_o that_o it_o carry_v we_o through_o all_o difficulty_n in_o our_o go_n to_o christ_n three_o faith_n it_o have_v a_o embrace_a work_n these_o all_o die_v in_o faith_n not_o have_v receive_v the_o promise_n what_o then_o how_o can_v they_o live_v but_o have_v see_v they_o afar_o off_o embrace_v they_o heb._n 11.13_o my_o belove_a faith_n it_o have_v a_o embrace_a work_n of_o the_o promise_n and_o because_o faith_n it_o with_o suggestion_n of_o sense_n or_o reason_n but_o then_o a_o second_o direction_n be_v let_v faith_n have_v its_o perfect_a work_n therefore_o as_o the_o apostle_n faith_n about_o patience_n so_o let_v faith_n have_v its_o perfect_a work_n faith_n go_v at_o first_o to_o half_a a_o promise_n but_o let_v it_o alone_o it_o know_v where_o to_o fetch_v a_o whole_a promise_n let_v faith_n alone_o it_o will_v go_v to_o a_o promise_n for_o what_o for_o refuge_n for_o help_v for_o all_o faith_n will_v go_v to_o and_o look_v upon_o abraham_n as_o isa_n 51.2_o and_o find_v encouragement_n from_o he_o nay_o it_o can_v run_v back_o to_o adam_n and_o help_v itself_o with_o the_o thought_n of_o his_o experience_n let_v faith_n have_v its_o course_n and_o it_o will_v carry_v you_o to_o every_o promise_n and_o example_n to_o encourage_v you_o if_o it_o have_v its_o perfect_a work_n it_o will_v gather_v strength_n from_o all_o the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o help_v you_o in_o your_o work_n of_o close_v with_o christ_n i_o beseech_v you_o in_o these_o direction_n strengthen_v and_o labour_v to_o encourage_v faith_n o_o soul_n mind_n it_o storm_n and_o trial_n may_v come_v and_o then_o you_o will_v need_v afresh_o to_o run_v to_o christ_n look_v to_o your_o leg_n your_o faith_n it_o be_v that_o must_v carry_v you_o if_o death_n come_v death_n and_o doubt_v will_v come_v together_o now_o remember_v what_o must_v carry_v you_o through_o nothing_o but_o faith_n trust_v to_o no_o part_n duty_n etc._n etc._n only_a trust_n to_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o way_n of_o faith_n do_v but_o go_v on_o believe_v and_o thou_o shall_v see_v great_a thing_n than_o yet_o thou_o have_v see_v two_o thing_n your_o faith_n will_v do_v first_o it_o will_v be_v your_o leg_n to_o carry_v whatever_o you_o know_v talk_v or_o think_v nothing_o will_v carry_v you_o to_o jesus_n christ_n but_o faith_n you_o may_v have_v fine_a word_n and_o good_a wish_n but_o alas_o word_v and_o wish_v be_v not_o come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n why_o this_o woman_n have_v other_o gift_n and_o other_o grace_n she_o have_v much_o humility_n and_o she_o have_v much_o patience_n and_o she_o have_v a_o fine_a gift_n of_o prayer_n etc._n etc._n yet_o it_o be_v not_o say_v woman_n much_o be_v thy_o patience_n or_o great_a be_v thy_o love_n strong_a be_v thy_o prayer_n but_o oh_o woman_n great_a be_v thy_o faith_n etc._n etc._n we_o do_v open_v the_o point_n at_o large_a and_o press_v it_o upon_o you_o in_o the_o application_n in_o divers_a particular_n which_o i_o shall_v not_o add_v unto_o or_o repeat_v only_o i_o beseech_v you_o my_o belove_a let_v this_o abide_v upon_o your_o heart_n streng_v then_o faith_n when_o you_o come_v to_o die_v you_o will_v then_o see_v a_o need_n of_o christ_n if_o you_o do_v not_o now_o and_o if_o you_o have_v not_o a_o live_a faith_n you_o can_v have_v a_o live_a christ_n and_o then_o be_v your_o soul_n dead_a before_o death_n faith_n be_v another_o it_o be_v precious_a but_o by_o the_o experience_n of_o it_o now_o the_o great_a experience_n of_o faith_n be_v see_v in_o that_o bless_a business_n of_o go_v to_o christ_n in_o that_o we_o have_v this_o experience_n of_o the_o use_n power_n and_o price_n of_o faith_n that_o whatever_o we_o have_v and_o pretend_v unto_o nothing_o but_o sincere_a single_a faith_n will_v carry_v we_o unto_o jesus_n christ_n but_o i_o proceed_v the_o second_o thing_n which_o indeed_o be_v the_o principal_a thing_n be_v this_o the_o kindness_n of_o christ_n now_o to_o this_o woman_n you_o see_v his_o commendation_n of_o her_o faith_n well_o now_o mark_v his_o condescension_n to_o she_o how_o much_o do_v christ_n condescend_v to_o this_o poor_a woman_n he_o condescend_v to_o talk_v with_o she_o commend_v her_o faith_n and_o comply_v with_o her_o wish_n to_o heal_v her_o daughter_n etc._n etc._n oh_o bless_a condescension_n the_o observation_n from_o the_o whole_a will_v be_v this_o doct._n that_o however_o the_o lord_n jesus_n may_v deal_v at_o first_o with_o poor_a soul_n that_o come_v to_o he_o in_o the_o issue_n he_o will_v deal_v very_o kind_o
yet_o say_v he_o in_o vers_fw-la 8._o the_o lord_n will_v command_v salvation_n for_o i_o and_o yet_o i_o shall_v praise_v he_o and_o very_o at_o last_o you_o shall_v see_v the_o goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o land_n of_o the_o live_n he_o will_v command_v and_o create_v comfort_n for_o you_o i_o but_o say_v the_o soul_n though_o david_n may_v say_v so_o what_o be_v that_o to_o i_o still_o i_o say_v remember_v it_o be_v to_o thou_o all_o that_o take_v hold_v of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o god_n make_v with_o david_n god_n make_v with_o they_o the_o sure_a mercy_n of_o david_n as_o it_o be_v in_o that_o precious_a promise_n isa_n 55.3_o but_o however_o mark_v the_o example_n we_o be_v upon_o consider_v the_o woman_n of_o canaan_n and_o when_o you_o consider_v the_o whole_a story_n of_o she_o you_o may_v be_v confident_a at_o last_o christ_n will_v deal_v kind_o with_o you_o mind_n above_o and_o beside_o what_o we_o have_v say_v three_o thing_n in_o this_o story_n to_o further_o off_o than_o the_o woman_n of_o canaan_n be_v and_o deal_v withalt_v worse_o than_o she_o be_v yet_o there_o be_v hope_n in_o israel_n for_o this_o thing_n first_o you_o can_v be_v further_o off_o than_o the_o woman_n of_o canaan_n be_v my_o belove_a there_o be_v no_o people_n visible_o so_o far_o from_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o so_o much_o out_o of_o the_o commission_n of_o christ_n as_o the_o canaanite_n and_o the_o samaritan_n and_o yet_o it_o be_v observable_a you_o have_v two_o great_a instance_n the_o one_o of_o a_o canaanite_n and_o the_o other_o of_o a_o samaritan_n that_o christ_n must_v deal_v well_o withal_o in_o john_n 4._o it_o be_v say_v of_o christ_n that_o he_o must_v needs_o go_v through_o samaria_n and_o what_o be_v it_o for_o but_o to_o bring_v home_o a_o poor_a woman_n of_o samaria_n now_o a_o samaritan_n be_v far_o off_o from_o christ_n and_o such_o a_o one_o as_o she_o be_v very_o far_o from_o christ_n yet_o the_o lord_n at_o last_o must_v deal_v kind_o with_o she_o and_o so_o this_o woman_n of_o canaan_n she_o be_v far_o off_o from_o jesus_n christ_n she_o be_v a_o woman_n of_o tyre_n and_o sidon_n yet_o she_o come_v to_o the_o lord_n and_o the_o lord_n deal_v well_o with_o she_o second_o consider_v this_o for_o your_o comfort_n christ_n can_v deal_v worse_o with_o you_o than_o he_o deal_v with_o the_o woman_n of_o canaan_n i_o beseech_v you_o in_o the_o lord_n presence_n you_o that_o have_v be_v under_o any_o darkness_n cloud_n or_o trouble_n tell_v i_o do_v ever_o the_o lord_n speak_v to_o you_o as_o he_o do_v canaan_n be_v yet_o there_o be_v hope_n in_o israel_n concern_v this_o thing_n why_o what_o hope_n there_o be_v this_o hope_n that_o the_o lord_n will_v create_v a_o new_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n it_o be_v often_o use_v in_o the_o prophet_n that_o expression_n among_o other_o i_o shall_v now_o mind_v you_o only_o of_o one_o in_o isa_n 43.18_o 19_o say_v the_o lord_n there_o unto_o his_o do_v hear_v david_n for_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o child_n i_o shall_v give_v you_o this_o account_n of_o it_o say_v david_n in_o v._o 23._o i_o shall_v go_v to_o he_o but_o he_o shall_v not_o return_v to_o i_o whither_o be_v that_o not_o so_o much_o i_o shall_v go_v to_o he_o in_o my_o body_n to_o the_o grave_n but_o in_o my_o soul_n to_o god_n and_o my_o belove_a that_o this_o be_v intend_v

that_o be_v another_o thing_n to_o satisfy_v any_o christian_n in_o this_o case_n i_o say_v when_o christ_n do_v not_o hear_v prayer_n to_o restore_v a_o child_n to_o life_n and_o health_n yet_o in_o this_o case_n in_o particular_a go_v to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n you_o may_v go_v and_o you_o may_v prevail_v for_o corporal_a kindness_n for_o they_o and_o if_o not_o for_o their_o body_n who_o can_v tell_v but_o you_o may_v for_o their_o soul_n then_o i_o beseech_v you_o all_o in_o the_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n phil._n 4.6_o compare_v with_o verse_n 19_o be_v careful_a for_o nothing_o but_o prevail_v with_o christ_n for_o corporal_a kindness_n first_o in_o what_o case_n may_v we_o go_v to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n and_o set_v prayer_n and_o faith_n on_o work_n for_o corporal_a kindness_n it_o be_v a_o case_n of_o conscience_n which_o be_v not_o oftentimes_o touch_v upon_o three_o thing_n i_o shall_v tell_v you_o to_o regulate_v you_o and_o then_o in_o any_o case_n you_o may_v go_v to_o christ_n and_o act_v faith_n for_o corporal_a mercy_n first_o when_o the_o thing_n be_v lawful_a that_o you_o ask_v there_o be_v many_o thing_n that_o be_v not_o lawful_a for_o we_o to_o ask_v like_o nero_n mother_n ask_v and_o say_v i_o will_v have_v my_o son_n king_n though_o i_o die_v for_o it_o you_o may_v not_o beg_v of_o the_o lord_n that_o your_o child_n may_v be_v thus_o great_a or_o thus_o honourable_a but_o you_o may_v beg_v of_o the_o lord_n life_n and_o health_n creature_n accommodation_n so_o far_o as_o necessary_a these_o thing_n you_o may_v beg_v and_o go_v to_o christ_n for_o second_o you_o must_v look_v that_o your_o spirit_n be_v not_o inordinate_o set_v upon_o the_o thing_n when_o ever_o thou_o find_v thy_o heart_n inordinate_o set_v upon_o any_o thing_n then_o do_v not_o pray_v for_o it_o and_o then_o three_o when_o you_o can_v appeal_v to_o jesus_n christ_n that_o the_o end_n for_o which_o you_o beg_v a_o corporal_a kindness_n it_o be_v for_o his_o spirit_n of_o this_o woman_n be_v take_v it_o in_o some_o particular_n i_o will_v name_v only_o two_o viz._n first_o she_o have_v this_o frame_n of_o spirit_n that_o though_o she_o mention_v her_o in_o a_o few_o word_n to_o you_o the_o first_o frame_n of_o her_o spirit_n be_v that_o though_o she_o do_v beg_v this_o mercy_n for_o her_o child_n yet_o the_o frame_n of_o her_o spirit_n be_v principal_o set_v upon_o her_o soul_n this_o poor_a woman_n do_v desire_v her_o daughter_n life_n but_o however_o lord_n bread_n for_o my_o poor_a soul_n oh_o sir_n when_o you_o can_v go_v to_o god_n and_o say_v lord_n i_o will_v have_v such_o a_o corpotal_a mercy_n but_o however_o lord_n soul-mercy_n when_o you_o can_v desire_v a_o sick_a child_n may_v be_v make_v well_o but_o especial_o a_o evil_a heart_n mend_v when_o your_o soul_n be_v set_v most_o upon_o your_o soul_n and_o its_o concernment_n then_o be_v you_o in_o a_o good_a frame_n second_o this_o woman_n be_v raise_v up_o to_o measure_n of_o faith_n indeed_o some_o great_a and_o considerate_a divine_n do_v think_v that_o that_o text_n of_o james_n 5._o where_o it_o be_v say_v the_o prayer_n of_o faith_n shall_v save_v the_o sick_a be_v to_o be_v understand_v in_o reference_n to_o a_o particular_a faith_n and_o my_o belove_a howsoever_o yet_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o it_o be_v not_o always_o necessary_a we_o shall_v have_v frame_n of_o heart_n as_o to_o mind_v spiritual_a thing_n most_o and_o yet_o to_o believe_v that_o in_o a_o temporal_a thing_n god_n will_v gratify_v we_o then_o may_v we_o expect_v that_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v ashamed_a of_o our_o faith_n and_o that_o we_o shall_v have_v the_o particular_a corporal_a mercy_n grant_v to_o we_o but_o to_o end_v this_o be_v that_o i_o will_v press_v upon_o the_o whole_a as_o ever_o you_o will_v have_v mercy_n for_o body_n and_o soul_n go_v to_o jesus_n christ_n but_o now_o there_o be_v some_o general_a word_n that_o i_o will_v draw_v from_o the_o whole_a story_n we_o have_v now_o dispatch_v this_o whole_a discourse_n of_o the_o woman_n of_o canaan_n what_o be_v there_o that_o be_v upon_o my_o spirit_n to_o beg_v of_o the_o lord_n for_o you_o and_o for_o my_o own_o soul_n but_o this_o that_o this_o story_n may_v be_v always_o a_o good_a story_n to_o we_o first_o of_o all_o therefore_o i_o say_v look_v about_o you_o that_o the_o story_n of_o the_o woman_n of_o canaan_n may_v not_o be_v a_o sad_a story_n to_o any_o be_v there_o any_o such_o as_o may_v have_v cause_n to_o fear_v that_o you_o will_v say_v yes_o man_n or_o woman_n whoever_o thou_o be_v who_o do_v not_o faithful_o go_v to_o jesus_n christ_n the_o story_n of_o the_o woman_n of_o canaan_n shall_v condemn_v you_o you_o have_v no_o excuse_n to_o keep_v you_o off_o from_o go_v to_o jesus_n christ_n but_o this_o woman_n will_v condemn_v you_o
