the_o notion_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n in_o the_o scripture_n if_o we_o will_v know_v a_o saint_n from_o a_o sinner_n as_o i_o say_v a_o man_n that_o be_v the_o lord_n and_o another_o that_o be_v not_o this_o be_v the_o main_a way_n the_o chief_a essential_a difference_n the_o one_o have_v the_o spirit_n the_o other_o have_v not_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o whether_o yonder_o man_n pray_v ridiculous_a thing_n to_o name_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n we_o shall_v i_o say_v distinguish_v man_n from_o man_n by_o the_o spirit_n and_o labour_n in_o a_o special_a manner_n to_o assure_v our_o self_n that_o we_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n we_o shall_v not_o rest_v in_o this_o that_o i_o have_v leave_v such_o sin_n or_o i_o do_v such_o duty_n but_o go_v on_o still_o till_o i_o come_v up_o to_o this_o that_o with_o all_o humility_n and_o thankfulness_n i_o may_v say_v god_n have_v give_v to_o i_o of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n the_o spirit_n of_o jesus_n christ_n dwell_v in_o my_o heart_n paul_n be_v humble_a and_o modest_a enough_o in_o his_o expression_n yet_o he_o can_v bold_o say_v he_o have_v the_o spirit_n we_o have_v the_o earnest_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o john_n can_v say_v so_o of_o other_o saint_n you_o have_v a_o unction_n or_o a_o anoint_v 1_o john_n 2._o and_o that_o be_v the_o bless_a spirit_n true_o belove_v it_o be_v a_o comfortable_a thing_n in_o respect_n of_o himself_o for_o a_o poor_a creature_n to_o see_v many_o stumble_v at_o the_o word_n of_o god_n whereas_o if_o we_o will_v resolve_v to_o be_v wise_a in_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n and_o to_o speak_v of_o thing_n as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v to_o look_v on_o thing_n as_o the_o scripture_n look_v on_o they_o to_o use_v those_o phrase_n and_o expression_n and_o those_o notion_n we_o shall_v understand_v many_o mystery_n in_o godliness_n which_o now_o be_v little_o less_o than_o stumble_a block_n to_o we_o because_o there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o thwart_a wisdom_n in_o we_o that_o be_v cross_a to_o that_o god_n be_v now_o i_o tell_v you_o about_o to_o exalt_v the_o spirit_n yet_o not_o in_o a_o way_n contrary_a to_o the_o scripture_n but_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o scripture_n i_o mean_v therefore_o learn_v this_o lesson_n to_o strive_v for_o this_o as_o the_o chief_a thing_n to_o find_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o you_o dwell_v and_o work_v in_o you_o because_o as_o in_o the_o old_a testament_n there_o be_v one_o great_a promise_n to_o wit_n of_o the_o messiah_n the_o lord_n jesus_n that_o be_v the_o great_a promise_n and_o all_o other_o promise_v belong_v to_o that_o so_o in_o the_o new_a testament_n there_o be_v but_o one_o great_a promise_n the_o promise_n of_o the_o father_n as_o christ_n call_v it_o and_o that_o be_v the_o pour_v out_o of_o the_o spirit_n therefore_o as_o the_o lord_n have_v be_v teach_v we_o of_o late_a year_n to_o know_v his_o son_n christ_n crucify_v the_o doctrine_n of_o justification_n where_o our_o righteousness_n lie_v etc._n etc._n so_o let_v we_o not_o think_v these_o speculation_n enough_o but_o take_v the_o other_o main_a thing_n that_o be_v as_o great_a as_o this_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o i_o may_v as_o well_o find_v the_o spirit_n work_v in_o i_o as_o to_o know_v without_o that_o jesus_n christ_n die_v for_o i_o if_o religion_n be_v state_v aright_o i_o mean_v christianity_n christian_a religion_n under_o the_o new_a testament_n not_o in_o book_n but_o the_o life_n of_o christianty_n it_o will_v be_v to_o know_v christ_n crucify_v and_o to_o enjoy_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n that_o when_o we_o read_v the_o new_a testament_n and_o cast_v up_o the_o bill_n of_o account_n when_o we_o have_v do_v there_o be_v the_o sum_n of_o all_o the_o two_o hinge_n that_o all_o go_v on_o therefore_o take_v heed_n of_o be_v deceive_v by_o notionall_a knowledge_n of_o thing_n only_o without_o you_o though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o glorious_a for_o if_o thou_o be_v a_o saint_n thou_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n real_o dwell_v in_o thou_o in_o its_o measure_n as_o true_o as_o in_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n as_o it_o be_v in_o ephes_n 1._o the_o latter_a end_n the_o spirit_n that_o work_v in_o they_o that_o believe_v o_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v a_o glorious_a thing_n it_o be_v that_o that_o not_o only_o make_v the_o grand_a difference_n between_o a_o saint_n and_o a_o sinner_n but_o even_o in_o a_o godly_a man_n the_o spirit_n be_v all_o in_o all_o in_o religion_n let_v the_o spirit_n but_o stir_n in_o he_o though_o he_o be_v never_o so_o dark_a yet_o all_o be_v light_a before_o he_o let_v the_o spirit_n come_v and_o comfort_v he_o though_o he_o be_v in_o chain_n of_o iron_n though_o he_o be_v in_o the_o great_a misery_n in_o this_o world_n yet_o he_o can_v sing_v psalm_n let_v the_o spirit_n be_v give_v he_o and_o then_o not_o only_a faith_n and_o the_o promise_n but_o grace_n and_o common_a providence_n every_o thing_n speak_v the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o his_o soul_n but_o let_v the_o spirit_n withdraw_v from_o he_o if_o the_o lord_n take_v away_o his_o spirit_n but_o for_o a_o moment_n even_o from_o the_o best_a saint_n his_o be_v as_o real_a a_o prophet_n priest_n and_o king_n as_o the_o lord_n jesus_n be_v only_o in_o all_o thing_n he_o must_v have_v the_o preeminence_n we_o have_v a_o share_n in_o all_o his_o action_n we_o be_v one_o with_o he_o in_o his_o grace_n in_o his_o life_n and_o death_n and_o resurrection_n and_o ascension_n there_o be_v nothing_o in_o christ_n there_o be_v nothing_o that_o christ_n be_v people_n and_o eye_v the_o judgement_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o eye_v what_o comfort_n on_o the_o otherside_n god_n give_v to_o any_o among_o they_o the_o prophet_n i_o say_v be_v tower_n and_o shall_v for_o i_o mean_v to_o gather_v up_o the_o whole_a chapter_n in_o a_o little_a method_n take_v it_o as_o it_o be_v describe_v verse_n 2._o i_o have_v liken_v the_o daughter_n of_o zion_n to_o a_o you_o do_v rule_v all_o kingdom_n beside_o you_o can_v make_v king_n and_o parliament_n and_o do_v any_o thing_n you_o have_v such_o ship_n and_o tower_n and_o army_n and_o arm_a man_n you_o see_v what_o god_n say_v of_o jerusalem_n when_o he_o be_v go_v to_o destroy_v she_o i_o have_v liken_v she_o to_o a_o fair_a delicate_a woman_n and_o yet_o all_o can_v not_o excuse_v she_o if_o the_o lord_n come_v against_o you_o all_o your_o riches_n and_o power_n and_o trade_v and_o gallantry_n can_v excuse_v you_o three_o here_o be_v all_o the_o good_a in_o jerusalem_n the_o religion_n and_o godliness_n the_o lord_n acknowledge_v that_o too_o and_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o forget_v any_o good_a thing_n among_o they_o that_o you_o shall_v see_v in_o verse_n 20._o to_o what_o purpose_n come_v there_o to_o i_o incense_v from_o sheba_n and_o the_o sweet_a cane_n from_o a_o far_a country_n your_o burnt-offering_n be_v not_o acceptable_a nor_o your_o sacrifice_n sweet_a unto_o i_o jerusalem_n do_v not_o forget_v the_o service_n of_o god_n they_o have_v their_o worship_n and_o sacrifice_n and_o they_o have_v sweet_a cane_n from_o sheba_n the_o lord_n complain_v in_o isaiah_n you_o may_v know_v the_o meaning_n of_o it_o he_o tell_v you_o after_o as_o a_o fountain_n cast_v out_o her_o water_n so_o she_o cast_v out_o her_o wickedness_n violence_n and_o spoil_n be_v hear_v in_o she_o before_o i_o continual_o be_v grief_n and_o wound_n say_v the_o lord_n she_o be_v oppression_n as_o a_o fountain_n cast_v forth_o water_n what_o be_v a_o fountain_n it_o be_v a_o hole_n in_o the_o earth_n that_o cast_v out_o water_n so_o say_v the_o lord_n i_o see_v nothing_o in_o jerusalem_n from_o one_o day_n to_o another_o from_o one_o year_n to_o another_o and_o from_o one_o end_n of_o the_o city_n to_o another_o but_o oppression_n i_o see_v one_o oppress_v another_o i_o see_v it_o full_a of_o wound_n and_o grief_n and_o bruise_n especial_o to_o my_o poor_a saint_n there_o be_v nothing_o but_o oppression_n and_o i_o leave_v you_o to_o judge_n this_o day_n whether_o this_o city_n at_o this_o time_n be_v not_o so_o she_o be_v whole_o oppression_n from_o the_o least_o to_o the_o great_a there_o be_v almost_o nothing_o else_o to_o be_v see_v then_o the_o second_o sin_n the_o lord_n lay_v down_o be_v in_o verse_n 13._o that_o every_o one_o be_v give_v to_o covetousness_n mark_v that_o word_n and_o let_v every_o one_o of_o your_o own_o conscience_n apply_v it_o for_o from_o the_o least_o even_o to_o the_o great_a of_o they_o every_o one_o be_v give_v to_o covetousness_n o_o this_o covetousness_n there_o can_v be_v no_o reformation_n either_o in_o church_n or_o commonwealth_n as_o thing_n be_v because_o of_o covetous_a people_n if_o there_o be_v any_o good_a course_n take_v by_o magistrate_n to_o reform_v any_o business_n in_o court_n or_o office_n because_o of_o the_o covetousness_n of_o people_n the_o business_n be_v mar_v you_o all_o know_v it_o and_o so_o far_o outward_a reformation_n of_o church_n and_o the_o like_a because_o of_o covetousness_n you_o all_o know_v that_o the_o business_n of_o reformation_n be_v mar_v minister_n have_v lose_v themselves_o there_o be_v many_o godly_a man_n that_o have_v room_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n people_n some_o in_o this_o city_n and_o in_o the_o assembly_n that_o have_v room_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n people_n before_o these_o time_n and_o before_o they_o have_v all_o thing_n in_o their_o own_o hand_n and_o become_v reformer_n of_o the_o church_n now_o because_o of_o covetousness_n all_o be_v mar_v that_o no_o business_n can_v be_v look_v upon_o now_o the_o lord_n look_v upon_o we_o and_o indeed_o though_o we_o see_v not_o he_o he_o see_v we_o and_o look_n on_o we_o then_o the_o three_o sin_n be_v lay_v down_o in_o verse_n 13_o 14._o that_o be_v the_o false_a deal_n of_o the_o prophet_n the_o minister_n from_o the_o prophet_n even_o to_o the_o priest_n every_o one_o deal_v false_o how_o be_v that_o they_o have_v heal_v the_o hurt_n of_o the_o daughter_n of_o my_o people_n slight_o say_v peace_n peace_n when_o there_o be_v no_o peace_n the_o prophet_n deal_v false_o they_o be_v become_v hypocrite_n they_o tell_v the_o people_n they_o be_v in_o a_o gallant_a way_n of_o reformation_n when_o the_o lord_n know_v both_o according_a to_o scripture_n and_o sound_a reason_n they_o be_v in_o the_o way_n to_o destruction_n they_o tell_v they_o now_o the_o church_n and_o reformation_n be_v go_v up_o when_o the_o poor_a kingdom_n be_v never_o in_o such_o a_o sad_a condition_n they_o deal_v false_o that_o be_v hypocritical_o what_o a_o stir_n be_v there_o here_o about_o schismatic_n and_o heretic_n and_o about_o reformation_n and_o what_o consult_v and_o work_v in_o the_o city_n
