i_o r_n act_z of_o privy_a council_n anent_o the_o shire_n of_o dumfreis_n air_n etc._n etc._n their_o out-rick_a edinburgh_n the_o twenty_o five_o day_n of_o october_n 1688._o the_o lord_n of_o his_o majesty_n privy_a council_n have_v think_v fit_a for_o his_o majesty_n service_n and_o for_o preserve_v the_o peace_n of_o some_o of_o the_o western_a shire_n of_o this_o kingdom_n in_o stead_n of_o call_v out_o their_o militia_n to_o authorize_v and_o require_v the_o heritor_n of_o these_o shire_n to_o keep_v together_o in_o arm_n in_o a_o body_n and_o that_o in_o such_o proportion_n by_o turn_n as_o the_o king_n service_n and_o their_o own_o security_n may_v require_v and_o for_o the_o case_n of_o the_o small_a heritor_n of_o these_o shire_n the_o said_n lord_n do_v hereby_o require_v and_o command_v the_o sheriff_n or_o their_o depute_n of_o the_o shire_n of_o dumfreis_n air_n lanerk_n wigtoun_n renfrew_n and_o dunbartoun_n and_o the_o stewart_n and_o their_o depute_n of_o the_o stewartry_n of_o annandale_n and_o kirkcudbright_n wiâ—h_v all_o possible_a diligence_n to_o conveen_n a_o quorum_fw-la of_o the_o commissioner_n of_o assessment_n and_o forthwith_o by_o a_o cast_n of_o the_o say_n respective_a shire_n and_o stewartry_n to_o conjoin_v so_o many_o of_o the_o say_n small_a heritor_n as_o may_v among_o they_o make_v up_o six_o hundred_o pound_n scot_n of_o yearly_a value_a rent_n who_o be_v to_o contribute_v among_o themselves_o proportional_o conform_v to_o their_o respective_a interest_n to_o râ—ek_v out_o a_o sufficient_a horseman_n well_o arm_v and_o appoint_v for_o his_o majesty_n service_n upon_o this_o occasion_n and_o the_o say_n lord_n consider_v that_o several_a burgh_n of_o regality_n and_o barony_n have_v any_o considerable_a common-good_a ought_v likewise_o to_o contribute_v and_o bear_v their_o proportion_n in_o this_o his_o majesty_n service_n in_o the_o above-written_a shire_n and_o stewartry_n do_v therefore_o ordain_v that_o where_o any_o burgh_n of_o barony_n or_o regality_n have_v of_o yearly_a value_a rent_n one_o thousand_o pound_n scot_n they_o be_v oblige_v to_o put_v forth_o a_o horseman_n sufficient_o arm_v as_o aforesaid_a and_o where_o their_o value_a rent_n will_v not_o extend_v to_o the_o say_a sum_n that_o they_o be_v join_v with_o other_o small_a burgh_n or_o heritor_n for_o make_v up_o of_o the_o say_a proportion_n of_o value_a rent_n and_o that_o for_o reik_v out_o a_o horseman_n sufficient_o mount_v as_o say_v be_v which_o horseman_n be_v to_o be_v under_o the_o command_n of_o the_o person_n entrust_v by_o his_o majesty_n privy_a council_n for_o command_v the_o respective_a shire_n and_o stewartry_n above_o write_v and_o to_o the_o end_n all_o concern_v may_v have_v timeous_a notice_n hereof_o the_o said_n lord_n ordain_v these_o present_n to_o be_v publish_v at_o the_o mercat_n cross_n of_o edinburgh_n and_o whole_a mercat_n cross_v of_o the_o head_n burgh_v of_o the_o shire_n and_o stewartry_n above-written_a that_o none_o may_v pretend_v ignorance_n extract_v forth_o of_o the_o record_n of_o privy_a council_n by_o i_o col_n mckenÈie_n cls._n sti._n concilii_fw-la god_n save_o the_o king_n edinburgh_n print_v by_o the_o heir_n of_o andrew_n anderson_n printer_n to_o his_o most_o sacred_a majesty_n anno_fw-la dom._n 1688._o
