I R DIEV ET MON DROIT HONI SOIT QVI MAL Y PENSE By the King ❧ A Proclamation for Ambassadours and forreigne Ministers THE Kings most Excellent Maiestie considering the great Priuiledges which by the Lawes of GOD and Nations are attributed vnto the persons of Ambassadors Agents and publique Ministers of forreigne Princes and States and the great Reuerence and Respect which of right appertaineth vnto them and weighing the manifold and important Reasons thereof and how necerely euery small neglect and disrespect of them toucheth not onely those Princes and States by whom they are imployed but all others in example and consequence and as a necessarie dependant thereupon the vniuersall weale and tranquillitie of all Kingdomes and States hauing entercourse commerce or correspondence together And willing that as great obseruance be vsed towards them within this His Maiesties Realme as in other the best gouerned Kingdomes and Nations Hath thought fit hereby to forewarne all persons whatsoeuer That they not onely forbeare to vse any insolencie misbehauiour inciuilitie disgrace or affront vnto any Ambassadors Agents or publique Ministers of any forreigne Princes or States and their followers seruants and attendants but also doe vpon all occasions performe vnto them all such reuerence respect and courtesie both in speech gesture and otherwise as is most fitting to proceed from persons of ciuill behauiour vnto men of that eminencie for place and employment vpon paine of His Maiesties highest indignation and displeasure and such senere punishment as the offenders of this His Royall Command may deserue And His Maiestie doeth hereby charge and command not onely the Lords of His Maiesties Priuie Councell but also all Maiors Sheriffes Iustices of Peace and all other His Maiesties Officers Ministers and Subiects That they and euery of them in their seuerall places doe not onely vse their best endeauour to preuent and restraine all insolencies misbehauiours and offences afore-mentioned but also take order that all offenders therein may receiue speedie and condigne punishment according to their demerits to the terror and example of others Giuen at Our Court at Whitehall the eight day of March in the one and twentieth yeereof Our Reigne of Great Britaine France and Ireland God saue the King Imprinted at London by Bonham Norton and Iohn Bill Printers to the Kings most Excellent Maiestie M.DC.XXIII
