Reg. chap. 18. a. 1.3 HEzekia the sonne of Ahaz reigned ouer Iuda and he did that which is right in the sight of the Lorde according to all as did Dauid his father verse 4 He put away the high places and brake the Images and cut downe the groues and all to brake the brasen serpent that Moses had made for vnto those dayes the children of Israel did burne sacrifice to it verse 5 and he called it Nehustan He trusted in the Lord God of Israel so that after him was none like him among all the Kings of Iuda neither were there any such before him verse 6 For he claue to the Lorde departed not from him but kept his commaundementes which the Lorde commaunded Moses And the Lorde was with him verse B. 7 so that he prospered in all things which he tooke in hande and he resisted the King of Assyria verse B. 13 and serued him not Therefore in the fourteenth yeere of king Hezekia did Sennacherib King of Assyria come vp against all the strong cities of Iuda verse C. 17. 18 and tooke them And he sent worde to King Hezekia by his captayne Rabsakeh verse 19 who sayde Tel Hezekia thus sayth the great king euen the king of Assyria What confidence is this thou hast or on whom doest thou trust that thou rebellest against mee If ye saye Ye trust in the Lorde our God is not that hee whose high places and whose altars Hezekia hath put downe And Rabsakeh stoode and cryed vnto the Iewes that stoode vpon the walles verse E. 28 with a lowde voyce saying Heare the wordes of the great King euen the King of Assyria verse 29 Thus sayth the King Let not Hezekia beguile you for he shall not be able to deliuer you out of my hands verse 30 Neither let Hezekia make you to trust in the Lorde saying The Lorde shall surely deliuer vs and this citie shall not be giuen ouer into the handes of the King of Assyria verse 32 Hearken not vnto Hezekia for he beguileth you saying The Lorde shall deliuer vs. verse 33 Hath euery one of the gods of the nations deliuered his lande out of the hande of the King of Assyria verse 34 Where is the God of Hamath of Arphad and where is the God of Sepharuaim Hena and Iua did they deliuer Samaria out of mine handes verse 35 And what god is among all the gods of the nations that hath deliuered his land out of mine hand Shall the Lord deliuer Hierusalem out of mine hande 4. I will put him in another minde and he shall heare tydings and so returne to his owne lande and I will bring to passe that he shal fall vpon the sworde euen in his owne lande verse 9 And when Sennacherib had worde that Thirhaka King of Ethiopia was come out to fight against him he departed sent messengers vnto Hezekia verse 10 saying Thus speake to Hezekia king of Iuda saying Let not thy God deceyue thee in whom thou trustest saying Hierusalem shal not be deliuered into the hande of the king of Assyria Beholde verse 11 thou hast heard what the kinges of Assyria haue done to all landes howe they haue vtterly destroyed them verse 14 and shalt thou escape And Hezekia receyued the letter of the hande of the messengers and readde it and Hezekia went vp into the house of the Lorde and layde it abroade before the Lorde verse 15 And Hezekia prayed before the Lorde and sayde O Lorde God of Israel which dwellest betweene the Cherubims thou art God alone ouer all the kingdomes of the earth thou hast made heauen and earth verse 16 Lord bowe downe thine eare and heare open Lorde thine eyes I beseech thee and see and heare the wordes of Sennacherib which hath sent this man to rayle on the liuing God verse 17 Of a trueth Lorde the kings of Assyria haue destroyed nations and their landes verse 18 and haue set fire on their gods for they are no gods but the worke of the handes of man euen of wood and stone and they destroyed them verse 19 Nowe therefore O Lorde our God I beseech thee saue thou vs out of his hande that all the kingdomes of the earth may knowe that thou onely art the Lorde God verse 20 And Isai the sonne of Amos sent to Hezekia saying Thus saith the Lorde God of Israel That which thou hast prayed mee concerning Sennacherib King of Assyria I haue heard it Wherefore thus sayth the Lord concerning the king of Assyria He shall not come to this citie verse E. 32. nor shoote an arrowe into it nor come before it with shield nor cast a banke against it verse 33 but shall go backe againe the way he came shall not come into this citie saith the Lord. Cha. 34. vers 1.2 a IOsia raigned in Hierusalem he did that which was right in the sight of the Lorde and walked in the wayes of Dauid his father and bowed neither to the right hande nor to the left verse 3 In the eyght yere of his raigne when he was yet a childe he began to seeke after the God of Dauid his father and in the twelfth yeere he began to purge Iuda and Hierusalem from the high places groues carued images and images of metall verse 4 And they brake downe the altars of Baalim euen in his presence and other images that were in greater honour then they he caused to be destroyed and the groues carued images and images of metall he brake and made dust of them and strawed it vpon the graues of them that had offred to them And he burnt the bones of the Priestes vpon the altars of them verse 5 and clensed Iuda Hierusalem And in the eyghteenth yeere of his raigne 4. Reg. 22. chap vers 3.4 a. when hee had purged the lande the temple he sent Saphan the Scribe to Helkia the high Priest that he shoulde see the decayed places of the temple repaired with such money as the keepers of the porche of the house of the Lord had gathered of the people verse a. 5. 6. And Helkia verse B. 8. 9. 10. as he was about the kinges commaundement found in the temple the booke of the lawe of the Lord and deliuered it vnto Saphan who brought it vnto the king and read in it before him verse 11. 12. When the king had heard the wordes of the booke of the lawe he rent his clothes commaunded Helkia the priest with certaine others saying Goe ye and enquire of the Lorde for me and for the people and for all Iuda verse 13 concerning the wordes of the booke that is founde for great is the wrath of the Lorde that is kindled against vs because our fathers haue not hearkened to the wordes of this booke to do according to all that which is written therein for vs. So Helkia the high Priest verse 14 with others went vnto Hulda the Prophetisse and they communed with her And shee answered them verse 15 Thus sayth the Lorde God of Israel Tell the man that sent you to me Thus sayth the Lorde Behold verse 16 I will bring euill vpon this place and on the inhabiters thereof euen all the woordes of the booke which the king of Iuda hath read verse 17 because they haue forsaken me and haue burnt incense to other gods to anger me with al the workes of their hands my wrath therefore is kindled agaynst this place and shal not be quenched But to the king of Iuda verse 18 which sent you to aske counsell of the Lord so shall ye say Thus saith the Lord God of Israel verse 19 Because thine heart did melte and because thou hast humbled thy selfe before the Lorde when thou heardest what I spake against this place against the inhabiters of the same howe that they shoulde be destroyed and accursed and hast rent thy clothes and wept before me that I also haue heard sayeth the Lorde verse 20 Beholde therefore I will receiue thee vnto thy fathers and thou shalt be put into thy graue in peace and thine eyes shal not see all the euill which I wil bring vpon this place And they brought the king worde againe 4. And then the king sent and there gathered together vnto him all the Elders of Iuda and of Hierusalem verse 2 And the king went vp into the house of the Lord with al the men of Iuda and al the inhabiters of Hierusalem with the Priestes and Prophets and all the people both small and great and hee read in the eares of them all the wordes of the booke of the couenant which was found in the house of the Lorde verse 3 And the king stoode by a piller and made a couenant before the Lord that they should walke after the Lord and keepe his commaundementes his witnesses and his statutes with all their heart and with all their soule and make good the wordes of the said couenant that were written in the foresaide booke and al the people consented to the couenant verse 4 And the King commaunded Helkia the high Priest and the inferior Priestes and the keepers of the ornaments to bring out of the temple of the Lorde all the vessels that were made for Baal for the groues and for all the hoast of heauen and he burnt them without Hierusalem in the fieldes of Cedron and caried the ashes of them into Bethel verse 5 And he put downe the Priestes of Baal whom the kings of Iuda had founded to burne incense in the high places and cities of Iuda that were round about Hierusalem and also them that burnt incense vnto Baal to the Sunne to the Moone to the Planets to al the hoast of heauen And moreouer all workers with spirits verse 24 and soothsayers images idoles and all the abominations that were spyed in the lande of Iuda and in Hierusalem these did Iosia put out of the way to perfourme the wordes of the lawe which were written in the booke that Helkia the Priest found in the house of the Lorde verse 25 Like vnto him was there no king before him that turned to the Lorde with all his heart with al his soule al his might according to all the lawe of Moses neyther after him arose there any such as he Te Deum WE praise thee O God we knowledge thee to be the Lorde All the earth doth worship thee the father euerlasting To thee
