of_o the_o flesh_n but_o the_o answer_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n towards_o god_n by_o the_o resurrection_n of_o jesus_n christ_n in_o this_o morning_n lecture_n i_o have_v former_o in_o my_o course_n out_o of_o several_a scripture_n handle_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o sacrament_n in_o general_n and_o then_o proceed_v to_o speak_v of_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n and_o therein_o their_o number_n their_o agreement_n and_o disagreement_n with_o those_o of_o the_o new_a testament_n and_o now_o late_o have_v begin_v to_o open_v the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n the_o first_o of_o they_o be_v now_o in_o hand_n and_o i_o have_v already_o out_o of_o this_o text_n make_v four_o or_o five_o sermon_n concerning_o the_o nature_n and_o use_n of_o the_o sacrament_n of_o baptism_n wherein_o i_o have_v clear_v unto_o you_o first_o who_o be_v the_o author_n and_o institutor_n of_o it_o second_o who_o be_v to_o be_v the_o 〈◊〉_d of_o it_o three_o the_o essence_n of_o it_o the_o matter_n and_o form_n of_o it_o both_o the_o res_fw-la terrena_fw-la and_o the_o res_fw-la coelestibus_fw-la the_o earthly_a and_o the_o spiritual_a part_n and_o now_o four_o it_o remain_v that_o i_o treat_v of_o the_o subject_n of_o it_o or_o the_o person_n who_o be_v to_o be_v baptise_v and_o they_o be_v of_o two_o sort_n either_o grow_a man_n who_o be_v instruct_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n and_o profess_v their_o faith_n in_o he_o and_o their_o willingness_n and_o readiness_n to_o live_v according_a to_o his_o will_n and_o do_v desire_n to_o be_v the_o baptise_n of_o such_o as_o these_o there_o be_v no_o question_n the_o other_o sort_n be_v infant_n of_o who_o right_a to_o this_o sacrament_n i_o shall_v by_o god_n assistance_n treat_v this_o day_n and_o concerning_o these_o there_o be_v two_o sort_n of_o question_n first_o whether_o any_o infant_n at_o all_o be_v to_o be_v baptise_v second_o suppose_v some_o have_v right_a to_o it_o yet_o it_o be_v great_o dispute_v state_v who_o infant_n may_v be_v baptise_v viz._n whether_o the_o infant_n of_o excommunicate_a person_n of_o heretic_n of_o profane_a man_n of_o mere_o civil_o righteous_a whether_o bastard_n whether_o the_o infant_n of_o heathen_n who_o be_v to_o be_v bring_v up_o by_o christian_n and_o whether_o these_o may_v not_o be_v baptise_v with_o some_o caution_n use_v thereby_o to_o make_v distinction_n betwixt_o the_o pure_a and_o the_o impure_a i_o shall_v for_o the_o present_a balk_v all_o these_o latter_a question_n and_o handle_v only_o the_o former_a viz._n 〈◊〉_d any_o at_o all_o be_v to_o be_v baptise_v or_o as_o the_o question_n use_v to_o be_v state_v whether_o the_o infant_n of_o believe_a parent_n the_o infant_n of_o saint_n be_v to_o be_v admit_v to_o the_o holy_a sacrament_n and_o here_o also_o arise_v another_o question_n who_o be_v to_o be_v mean_v by_o believer_n and_o saint_n whether_o only_o such_o as_o have_v the_o inward_a virtue_n of_o faith_n and_o holiness_n who_o be_v real_o believer_n and_o sanctify_v one_o or_o whether_o by_o believer_n and_o saint_n may_v be_v mean_v such_o a_o faith_n and_o sanctity_n as_o be_v outward_o profess_v although_o possible_o the_o inward_a grace_n itself_o which_o only_o god_n can_v judge_v of_o be_v altogether_o want_v concerning_o which_o question_n baptise_v although_o for_o my_o own_o part_n i_o believe_v we_o be_v to_o understand_v it_o of_o that_o which_o man_n may_v judge_v of_o and_o that_o god_n have_v not_o make_v that_o the_o condition_n of_o his_o servant_n apply_v his_o ordinance_n which_o can_v be_v infallible_o know_v to_o none_o but_o himself_o and_o that_o therefore_o the_o profession_n of_o faith_n and_o holiness_n be_v sufficient_a to_o make_v man_n pass_v for_o believer_n and_o saint_n in_o the_o church_n judgement_n yet_o i_o shall_v at_o the_o present_a balk_v the_o handle_n of_o this_o also_o and_o will_v take_v it_o in_o the_o sure_a sense_n in_o the_o apostle_n sense_n what_o the_o apostle_n mean_v by_o believer_n and_o saint_n when_o he_o write_v unto_o the_o church_n that_o i_o will_v take_v to_o be_v the_o state_n of_o the_o question_n if_o by_o believer_n and_o saint_n the_o apostle_n mean_v visible_a professor_n of_o faith_n and_o holiness_n then_o the_o question_n be_v whether_o their_o infant_n be_v to_o be_v baptise_v if_o the_o apostle_n by_o believer_n and_o saint_n mean_v such_o only_a as_o be_v inward_o holy_a inward_o believer_n than_o the_o question_n be_v whether_o their_o infant_n be_v to_o be_v baptise_v in_o a_o word_n whether_o the_o infant_n of_o such_o as_o be_v or_o may_v have_v be_v style_v believer_n and_o saint_n in_o the_o apostle_n day_n and_o writing_n be_v to_o be_v admit_v to_o the_o sacrament_n of_o baptism_n this_o privilege_n of_o the_o baptise_n of_o such_o infant_n the_o christian_a church_n have_v be_v in_o possession_n of_o for_o the_o space_n of_o fifteen_o hundred_o
