primitive_a and_o pure_a age_n of_o the_o church_n 1._o whether_o there_o be_v any_o warrant_n for_o the_o use_n of_o form_n of_o prayer_n in_o holy_a scripture_n where_o by_o warrant_n must_v be_v same_o matter_n be_v mention_v ambiguous_o in_o one_o text_n and_o plain_o and_o express_o in_o another_o it_o be_v a_o necessary_a rule_n of_o interpretation_n that_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o doubtful_a and_o ambiguous_a text_n shall_v be_v determine_v by_o the_o word_n of_o the_o plain_a and_o express_v text._n now_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d pray_v thus_o have_v our_o saviour_n express_v himself_o in_o no_o other_o word_n but_o these_o there_o can_v have_v be_v no_o doubt_n but_o that_o his_o meaning_n be_v to_o prescribe_v those_o word_n for_o a_o suppose_v that_o without_o high_a presumption_n have_v it_o not_o be_v for_o this_o pretence_n of_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d pray_v thus_o since_o therefore_o pray_v thus_o be_v a_o doubtful_a expression_n it_o be_v very_o reasonable_a it_o shall_v be_v interpret_v by_o say_v our_o father_n which_o be_v a_o plain_a and_o determinate_a one_o and_o if_o so_o the_o sense_n of_o both_o must_v father_n he_o will_v have_v bid_v they_o call_v upon_o god_n by_o the_o name_n of_o their_o heavenly_a father_n and_o beseech_v he_o to_o cause_v his_o name_n to_o be_v glorify_v and_o hallow_v in_o the_o world_n and_o his_o kingdom_n to_o spread_v and_o advance_v etc._n etc._n instead_o of_o which_o he_o give_v they_o a_o form_a prayer_n and_o bid_v they_o say_v it_o and_o therefore_o since_o he_o give_v it_o to_o they_o after_o the_o manner_n of_o a_o form_n and_o not_o after_o the_o manner_n of_o a_o directory_n and_o since_o we_o may_v reasonable_o suppose_v that_o he_o intend_v they_o shall_v use_v it_o after_o the_o same_o manner_n in_o which_o he_o give_v it_o it_o follow_v that_o he_o give_v it_o to_o they_o to_o be_v use_v as_o a_o form_n and_o not_o mere_o as_o a_o pattern_n or_o directory_n 3_o lie_n i_o answer_v that_o suppose_v that_o when_o he_o bid_v they_o pray_v thus_o in_o the_o six_o of_o st._n matthew_n he_o prescribe_v it_o only_o as_o a_o directory_n for_o prayer_n yet_o it_o do_v not_o follow_v but_o that_o when_o he_o bid_v they_o say_v our_o father_n in_o the_o 11_o of_o luke_n he_o may_v prescribe_v it_o as_o a_o form_n because_o it_o be_v not_o one_o before_o either_o therefore_o their_o request_n in_o st._n luke_n must_v be_v very_o impertinent_a or_o it_o must_v be_v to_o desire_v he_o to_o teach_v they_o something_o more_o
name_n since_o we_o may_v as_o well_o and_o true_o offer_v it_o in_o his_o name_n though_o he_o be_v not_o name_v in_o it_o as_o if_o he_o be_v and_o he_o have_v not_o give_v we_o the_o least_o intimation_n of_o his_o will_n to_o the_o contrary_a it_o be_v true_a he_o do_v not_o express_v his_o name_n in_o it_o because_o as_o yet_o they_o to_o who_o he_o give_v it_o be_v not_o to_o ask_v in_o his_o name_n he_o be_v not_o yet_o ascend_v but_o now_o that_o he_o be_v ascend_v we_o can_v as_o well_o offer_v it_o in_o his_o name_n as_o if_o his_o name_n have_v be_v express_v in_o it_o how_o then_o do_v it_o follow_v that_o because_o he_o do_v not_o direct_v they_o to_o offer_v it_o in_o his_o name_n before_o his_o ascension_n therefore_o he_o do_v not_o intend_v they_o shall_v if_o we_o use_v another_o prayer_n before_o it_o we_o may_v express_v in_o the_o transition_n to_o it_o as_o we_o ordinary_o do_v that_o it_o be_v in_o the_o name_n and_o mediation_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o we_o pray_v our_o father_n etc._n etc._n since_o therefore_o when_o we_o say_v our_o father_n we_o do_v implicit_o pray_v in_o christ_n mediation_n and_o also_o explicit_o in_o the_o work_n by_o which_o it_o be_v confirm_v it_o can_v no_o more_o be_v expect_v that_o the_o prayer_n of_o the_o christian_a assembly_n shall_v be_v record_v in_o it_o than_o that_o the_o liturgy_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n shall_v be_v recite_v in_o the_o exposition_n of_o the_o creed_n or_o the_o whole_a duty_n of_o man._n and_o therefore_o as_o the_o new_a testament_n take_v no_o notice_n of_o their_o use_v the_o lord_n prayer_n so_o neither_o do_v it_o take_v notice_n of_o any_o other_o particular_a prayer_n that_o they_o use_v in_o their_o public_a assembly_n from_o whence_o we_o may_v as_o reasonable_o conclude_v that_o they_o use_v no_o prayer_n at_o all_o notwithstanding_o our_o lord_n command_v they_o to_o pray_v as_o that_o they_o do_v not_o use_v the_o lord_n prayer_n notwithstanding_o he_o command_v they_o to_o say_v our_o father_n or_o at_o least_o that_o they_o do_v not_o baptise_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o father_n and_o of_o the_o son_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n since_o notwithstanding_o christ_n command_v they_o to_o do_v so_o yet_o there_o be_v no_o record_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n of_o their_o baptise_v any_o person_n in_o that_o form_n
