and_o forsake_v their_o sin_n it_o be_v say_v that_o his_o soul_n be_v grieve_v for_o the_o affliction_n of_o israel_n by_o the_o behaviour_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n towards_o the_o woman_n which_o be_v a_o canaanit_n 28._o for_o when_o she_o have_v cry_v after_o he_o to_o have_v mercy_n on_o she_o because_o her_o daughter_n be_v miserable_o vex_v with_o a_o devil_n and_o our_o saviour_n answer_v not_o a_o word_n she_o notwithstanding_o persist_v in_o call_v upon_o he_o insomuch_o that_o his_o disciple_n come_v unto_o he_o and_o beseech_v he_o say_v send_v she_o away_o for_o she_o cry_v after_o we_o and_o although_o he_o answer_v that_o he_o be_v not_o send_v but_o to_o the_o lose_a sheep_n of_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n notwithstanding_o she_o importune_v he_o again_o and_o come_v unto_o he_o worship_v he_o say_v lord_n help_v i_o and_o have_v receive_v another_o repulse_n our_o saviour_n answer_v that_o it_o be_v not_o meet_v to_o take_v the_o child_n bread_n and_o to_o cast_v it_o to_o whelp_n she_o acknowledge_v herself_o to_o be_v such_o a_o one_o but_o yet_o expect_v such_o crumb_n as_o it_o be_v from_o his_o table_n whereupon_o our_o saviour_n christ_n have_v try_v she_o sufficient_o commend_v her_o faith_n and_o grant_v her_o request_n and_o last_o because_o the_o lord_n in_o this_o place_n have_v not_o only_o command_v we_o to_o call_v upon_o he_o in_o the_o time_n of_o affliction_n but_o also_o have_v promise_v to_o deliver_v us._n and_o therefore_o in_o obedience_n to_o this_o commandment_n and_o in_o faith_n in_o this_o promise_n we_o be_v to_o pour_v forth_o our_o soul_n before_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o day_n of_o affliction_n but_o some_o man_n will_v ask_v when_o be_v this_o day_n of_o affliction_n wherein_o we_o be_v to_o call_v upon_o god_n affliction_n be_v every_o thing_n that_o cross_v our_o lawful_a desire_n and_o that_o be_v either_o private_a or_o public_a private_a either_o belong_v to_o ourselves_o or_o to_o other_o to_o ourselves_o either_o in_o our_o soul_n as_o the_o anguish_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o great_a affliction_n or_o other_o heaviness_n and_o passion_n melancholic_a or_o in_o our_o body_n as_o sickness_n infirmity_n hurt_n or_o wound_n or_o in_o our_o good_n as_o poverty_n want_n loss_n debt_n or_o in_o our_o good_a name_n as_o infamy_n by_o evil_a report_n or_o slander_n or_o in_o those_o that_o belong_v unto_o we_o as_o wife_n child_n and_o servant_n to_o other_o as_o to_o our_o kindred_n friend_n acquaintance_n neighbour_n countryman_n brethren_n in_o christ_n as_o all_o christian_n be_v to_o be_v esteem_v of_o we_o though_o foreigner_n in_o respect_n of_o place_n and_o in_o respect_n of_o affection_n not_o well_o mind_v to_o we_o for_o such_o a_o sympathy_n there_o ought_v to_o be_v betwixt_o those_o that_o be_v member_n of_o the_o same_o body_n politic_a but_o much_o more_o of_o the_o same_o mystical_a body_n of_o christ_n especial_o when_o other_o respect_n also_o concur_v of_o kindred_n amity_n acquaintance_n neighbourhood_n etc._n etc._n that_o in_o a_o fellow_n feel_n and_o christian_a compassion_n we_o shall_v mourn_v when_o other_o member_n of_o the_o same_o body_n be_v afflict_v when_o the_o affliction_n therefore_o belong_v to_o ourselves_o we_o be_v in_o our_o own_o behalf_n to_o call_v upon_o god_n when_o to_o other_o we_o be_v in_o tender_a compassion_n of_o their_o grief_n to_o commend_v their_o cause_n to_o god_n in_o our_o prayer_n david_n when_o those_o who_o indeed_o be_v his_o enemy_n be_v afflict_v he_o humble_v himself_o in_o fast_v and_o prayer_n for_o they_o psal._n 35.13_o 10.12_o in_o like_a sort_n he_o mourn_v and_o fast_v for_o the_o death_n of_o saul_n and_o jonathan_n 1._o chron._n 10._o and_o also_o of_o abner_n 2._o sam._n 3._o 3.35_o public_a affliction_n be_v when_o the_o country_n the_o church_n or_o commonwealth_n be_v afflict_v with_o any_o common_a calamity_n as_o famine_n sword_n pestilence_n desolation_n captivity_n and_o such_o like_a let_v we_o therefore_o consider_v whether_o this_o present_a time_n be_v a_o time_n of_o affliction_n or_o not_o and_o if_o it_o be_v let_v we_o know_v that_o this_o commandment_n belong_v unto_o we_o and_o that_o the_o lord_n call_v we_o to_o fast_v and_o prayer_n 22.12_o be_v it_o that_o in_o respect_n of_o thyself_o and_o those_o that_o belong_v to_o thou_o thou_o have_v no_o cause_n of_o mourning_n as_o who_o almost_o be_v free_a yet_o thy_o brethren_n thy_o sister_n thy_o friend_n thy_o countryman_n thy_o fellow_n member_n in_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n be_v visit_v by_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n or_o the_o place_n of_o their_o dwell_n at_o least_o infect_v with_o this_o contagious_a sickness_n do_v david_n fast_o and_o mourn_v and_o pray_v for_o his_o enemy_n when_o they_o be_v in_o affliction_n and_o do_v not_o thou_o mourn_v for_o thy_o dear_a brethren_n and_o friend_n but_o though_o we_o have_v no_o private_a cause_n of_o grief_n yet_o the_o common_a calamity_n shall_v most_o of_o all_o affect_v we_o see_v the_o chief_a city_n and_o many_o other_o place_n of_o the_o land_n the_o lord_n shoot_v his_o arrow_n on_o every_o side_n be_v visit_v with_o the_o fearful_a plague_n of_o pestilence_n what_o shall_v we_o think_v because_o we_o as_o yet_o through_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n have_v escape_v this_o plague_n that_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o a_o time_n of_o affliction_n wherein_o we_o be_v to_o humble_v ourselves_o before_o god_n by_o fast_v and_o prayer_n far_o be_v it_o from_o we_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v so_o hard-hearted_a as_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o take_v to_o heart_n the_o affliction_n of_o joseph_n 6.6_o or_o such_o unnatural_a member_n of_o the_o body_n politic_a or_o unsound_a and_o rot_a member_n of_o the_o mystical_a body_n of_o christ_n as_o that_o when_o the_o chief_a city_n and_o as_o it_o be_v the_o head_n of_o our_o country_n beside_o many_o other_o place_n and_o person_n be_v so_o grievous_o afflict_v that_o we_o shall_v not_o condole_v and_o mourn_v together_o with_o they_o and_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o they_o or_o may_v we_o think_v that_o because_o ourselves_o and_o perhaps_o also_o the_o place_n where_o we_o dwell_v be_v free_a that_o therefore_o this_o affliction_n and_o judgement_n do_v not_o concern_v we_o yes_o belove_a it_o do_v near_o concern_v us._n for_o that_o this_o affliction_n be_v lay_v upon_o the_o land_n for_o sin_n we_o need_v not_o doubt_n see_v the_o scripture_n so_o oft_o do_v teach_v that_o truth_n 3.39_o behold_v say_v the_o prophet_n isaiah_n thou_o be_v angry_a when_o we_o offend_v david_n testify_v that_o the_o lord_n with_o rebuke_n do_v chastise_v man_n for_o sin_n and_o jeremie_n that_o man_n be_v punish_v for_o their_o sin_n insomuch_o that_o affliction_n
