in_o the_o wholesome_a word_n of_o truth_n one_o that_o will_v suffer_v we_o to_o go_v on_o in_o our_o sin_n and_o never_o awake_v we_o out_o of_o our_o dead_a sleep_n of_o security_n one_o that_o will_v sow_v pillow_n under_o our_o elbow_n and_o cry_v peace_n peace_n when_o there_o be_v no_o peace_n one_o that_o will_v sort_v himself_o unto_o our_o manner_n and_o apply_v himself_o unto_o our_o humour_n he_o be_v a_o man_n fit_a for_o we_o he_o be_v a_o mild_a a_o soft_a man_n and_o a_o good_a companion_n and_o we_o wish_v that_o he_o may_v live_v for_o ever_o with_o us._n but_o if_o our_o pastor_n with_o the_o prophet_n of_o the_o lord_n threaten_v the_o judgement_n of_o the_o lord_n against_o we_o for_o our_o sin_n if_o with_o john_n baptist_n he_o reprove_v we_o bold_o to_o our_o face_n for_o such_o cry_a sin_n as_o reign_v among_o we_o if_o with_o the_o bless_a martyr_n steven_n in_o the_o application_n of_o his_o doctrine_n he_o shall_v come_v upon_o we_o and_o say_v you_o stiffnecked_a &_o of_o uncircumcised_a heart_n and_o ear_n you_o have_v always_o resist_v the_o holy_a ghost_n as_o your_o father_n do_v so_o do_v you_o if_o with_o the_o apostle_n he_o shall_v rebuke_v we_o and_o say_v o_o foolish_a people_n who_o have_v bewitch_v you_o that_o you_o shall_v not_o obey_v the_o truth_n if_o he_o shall_v lance_n our_o sore_n unto_o the_o bottom_n that_o so_o we_o may_v be_v thorough_o heal_v if_o he_o shall_v wound_v the_o hairy_a scalp_n of_o he_o that_o go_v on_o in_o his_o wickedness_n and_o lay_v the_o axe_n to_o the_o root_n of_o our_o sin_n he_o we_o can_v by_o no_o mean_n endure_v he_o be_v a_o contentious_a man_n a_o seditious_a man_n a_o schismatical_a fellow_n a_o troubler_n of_o the_o world_n away_o with_o such_o a_o man_n he_o be_v not_o worthy_a to_o live_v upon_o the_o earth_n thus_o the_o pastor_n from_o who_o it_o be_v a_o mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o deliver_v we_o we_o love_v and_o like_v and_o he_o in_o the_o continuance_n of_o who_o live_n be_v a_o blessing_n of_o the_o lord_n upon_o we_o we_o can_v away_o with_o so_o great_o be_v we_o in_o love_n with_o our_o sin_n and_o ignorance_n and_o so_o little_o do_v we_o love_v knowledge_n and_o the_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o our_o peace_n but_o belove_a i_o persuade_v myself_o better_a thing_n of_o a_o great_a many_o of_o you_o as_o already_o you_o do_v so_o continue_v to_o have_v they_o that_o labour_n among_o you_o in_o singular_a love_n for_o their_o work_n sake_n let_v the_o foot_n of_o they_o that_o bring_v you_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n jesus_n be_v beautiful_a unto_o you_o count_n the_o life_n of_o your_o faithful_a teacher_n a_o blessing_n of_o the_o lord_n upon_o you_o and_o pray_v you_o unto_o the_o lord_n when_o you_o have_v such_o a_o blessing_n for_o the_o continuance_n thereof_o unto_o you_o this_o blessing_n be_v as_o needful_a for_o you_o as_o the_o great_a blessing_n of_o this_o life_n and_o therefore_o rejoice_v in_o it_o and_o pray_v for_o it_o as_o the_o great_a blessing_n of_o your_o life_n and_o let_v this_o suffice_v to_o be_v observe_v from_o the_o reason_n which_o make_v the_o apostle_n doubt_v what_o to_o choose_v whether_o to_o live_v in_o the_o body_n or_o to_o remove_v out_o of_o the_o body_n it_o follow_v and_o this_o be_o i_o sure_a of_o etc._n etc._n in_o the_o apostle_n narration_n which_o begin_v at_o the_o 12._o verse_n first_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o what_o success_n his_o band_n have_v already_o have_v and_o then_o what_o success_n he_o hope_v they_o shall_v have_v touch_v the_o success_n which_o they_o shall_v have_v we_o have_v hear_v that_o the_o apostle_n certain_o look_v for_o and_o hope_v that_o they_o shall_v turn_v to_o the_o salvation_n of_o his_o soul_n through_o his_o constancy_n in_o his_o band_n whether_o it_o be_v in_o life_n or_o in_o death_n but_o what_o shall_v be_v the_o success_n of_o his_o band_n touch_v the_o salvation_n and_o deliverance_n of_o his_o body_n the_o apostle_n now_o tell_v the_o philippian_n that_o namely_o he_o know_v certain_o that_o he_o shall_v live_v be_v deliver_v out_o of_o prison_n &_o be_v restore_v this_o general_a whereunto_o he_o exhort_v they_o be_v 1._o that_o they_o have_v the_o same_o love_n that_o be_v that_o they_o love_v the_o same_o thing_n in_o the_o lord_n 2._o that_o they_o be_v of_o one_o accord_n that_o be_v that_o they_o agree_v in_o their_o will_n and_o desire_n in_o the_o lord_n 3._o that_o they_o be_v of_o one_o judgement_n that_o be_v that_o they_o agree_v in_o the_o doctrine_n and_o truth_n of_o christ_n jesus_n these_o be_v the_o thing_n which_o he_o wish_v to_o be_v in_o they_o that_o their_o conversation_n may_v be_v such_o as_o become_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n in_o general_a to_o be_v like_o affection_a in_o the_o lord_n in_o special_a to_o love_v the_o same_o thing_n in_o the_o lord_n to_o agree_v in_o their_o will_n and_o desire_n in_o the_o lord_n to_o agree_v in_o the_o doctrine_n and_o truth_n of_o christ_n jesus_n now_o the_o fault_n which_o he_o wish_v they_o to_o be_v free_a from_o be_v contention_n vainglory_n and_o self-love_n note_v in_o the_o verse_n follow_v yet_o so_o that_o the_o countrepoyson_n of_o humility_n be_v therein_o countre-ballanced_n and_o persuade_v that_o nothing_o be_v do_v through_o contention_n etc._n etc._n this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v the_o order_n and_o meaning_n of_o these_o word_n thus_o far_o now_o let_v we_o see_v what_o observation_n we_o may_v gather_v hence_o for_o our_o own_o far_a use_n and_o instruction_n if_o there_o be_v therefore_o any_o consolation_n in_o christ_n jesus_n in_o this_o manner_n of_o the_o apostle_n exhortation_n 1._o in_o general_n i_o note_v the_o apostle_n vehement_a obtestation_n of_o the_o philippian_n for_o the_o embrace_v of_o concord_n love_n and_o humility_n that_o they_o may_v never_o fail_v from_o among_o they_o he_o may_v as_o he_o say_v to_o they_o even_o as_o if_o they_o desire_v no_o other_o recompense_n of_o their_o labour_n and_o travel_n among_o they_o than_o this_o that_o such_o and_o such_o contention_n may_v be_v take_v up_o such_o and_o such_o disorder_n may_v be_v reform_v such_o and_o such_o christian_a piety_n may_v be_v maintain_v they_o be_v to_o remember_v that_o they_o be_v father_n to_o their_o flock_n as_o the_o apostle_n call_v himself_o 2.1_o 1_o cor._n 4.15_o 1_o joh._n 2.1_o and_o as_o john_n also_o impli_v when_o he_o say_v my_o babe_n little_a child_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o they_o as_o parent_n with_o their_o child_n now_o the_o father_n if_o happy_o his_o child_n be_v at_o odds_n among_o themselves_o what_o do_v he_o he_o call_v they_o unto_o he_o he_o remember_v they_o what_o care_n he_o have_v have_v over_o they_o what_o cost_v he_o have_v be_v at_o with_o they_o what_o his_o love_n have_v be_v towards_o they_o what_o his_o desire_n have_v be_v of_o their_o good_a what_o honour_n duty_n reverence_n and_o obedience_n they_o owe_v unto_o he_o and_o at_o length_n entreat_v they_o that_o if_o they_o have_v any_o care_n of_o these_o thing_n if_o they_o desire_v his_o comfort_n if_o they_o will_v not_o bring_v his_o life_n down_o unto_o the_o dust_n with_o grief_n they_o will_v be_v reconcile_v and_o live_v together_o as_o brethren_n in_o unity_n even_o so_o pastor_n which_o be_v spiritual_a father_n when_o their_o people_n their_o child_n fall_v to_o inconvenience_n which_o any_o way_n breed_v offence_n they_o be_v to_o remember_v they_o with_o what_o care_n they_o labour_v among_o they_o how_o they_o long_v after_o their_o good_a from_o the_o very_a heart_n root_n in_o jesus_n christ_n what_o continual_a mention_n they_o make_v of_o they_o in_o their_o prayer_n unto_o the_o lord_n what_o honour_n again_o duty_n reverence_n and_o obedience_n they_o owe_v unto_o they_o as_o unto_o they_o that_o watch_v for_o their_o soul_n and_o at_o length_n earnest_o to_o beseech_v they_o that_o if_o they_o have_v any_o care_n of_o these_o thing_n if_o they_o desire_v his_o continuance_n with_o comfort_n among_o they_o if_o they_o wish_v that_o he_o may_v give_v up_o his_o account_n for_o they_o in_o that_o day_n with_o joy_n &_o not_o with_o grief_n than_o they_o will_v reform_v such_o and_o such_o disorder_n live_v in_o such_o and_o such_o sort_n as_o become_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n jesus_n our_o apostle_n deal_v thus_o with_o the_o philippian_n in_o this_o place_n have_v therein_o leave_v a_o pattern_n for_o all_o pastor_n that_o they_o shall_v so_o deal_v with_o their_o people_n as_o they_o have_v he_o for_o example_n here_o it_o may_v be_v you_o will_v say_v that_o you_o can_v like_v this_o well_o that_o in_o thing_n convenient_a for_o you_o pastor_n will_v thus_o mild_o deal_v with_o you_o as_o parent_n with_o their_o child_n but_o forsooth_o they_o will_v rather_o command_v as_o master_n over_o servant_n and_o oftentimes_o threaten_v the_o law_n they_o will_v when_o thing_n be_v amiss_o and_o this_o you_o can_v brook_v will_v you_o then_o have_v we_o to_o beseech_v you_o &_o mild_o to_o deal_v with_o you_o as_o here_o the_o apostle_n deal_v with_o the_o philippian_n if_o you_o do_v not_o it_o be_v because_o you_o be_v not_o as_o be_v the_o philippian_n be_v you_o as_o be_v the_o philippian_n general_o embrace_v the_o truth_n of_o christ_n jesus_n be_v constant_a in_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n jesus_n be_v patient_a in_o affliction_n for_o christ_n jesus_n his_o sake_n communicate_v to_o the_o affliction_n of_o the_o saint_n of_o christ_n jesus_n love_v they_o that_o labour_n among_o you_o and_o be_v ever_o in_o the_o lord_n among_o many_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n let_v there_o be_v but_o some_o infirmity_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o see_v whether_o we_o will_v not_o beseech_v you_o and_o deal_v with_o you_o as_o here_o the_o apostle_n deal_v with_o these_o philippian_n but_o if_o you_o be_v like_a unto_o the_o galathian_o unstable_a soul_n carry_v about_o with_o every_o wind_n of_o doctrine_n corrupt_v in_o judgement_n corrupt_v in_o manner_n than_o you_o may_v look_v for_o it_o that_o as_o paul_n sharp_o rebuke_v they_o say_v o_o foolish_a galatian_n who_o have_v bewitch_v you_o that_o you_o shall_v not_o obey_v the_o truth_n 3.1_o gal._n 3.1_o so_o we_o will_v learn_v of_o he_o sharp_o to_o reprove_v you_o this_o you_o must_v know_v that_o we_o may_v come_v unto_o you_o either_o with_o a_o rod_n 8._o 1_o cor._n 4.21_o philem_n 8._o or_o in_o love_n and_o in_o the_o spirit_n of_o meekness_n that_o in_o christ_n we_o may_v command_v you_o that_o which_o be_v convenient_a for_o you_o even_o when_o for_o love_n sake_n we_o rather_o beseech_v you_o if_o we_o come_v then_o unto_o you_o with_o a_o rod_n or_o if_o we_o command_v you_o we_o do_v that_o we_o may_v do_v but_o you_o drive_v we_o unto_o it_o by_o your_o inordinate_a way_n and_o dissolute_a life_n which_o as_o canker_a sore_n need_v sharp_a corrosive_n for_o this_o be_v a_o thing_n you_o hear_v which_o we_o urge_v and_o press_v that_o pastor_n be_v to_o labour_v to_o repress_v such_o enormity_n as_o arise_v among_o their_o people_n in_o the_o mild_a sort_n that_o may_v be_v earnest_o beseech_v they_o to_o reform_v such_o thing_n as_o be_v amiss_o and_o again_o if_o we_o come_v unto_o you_o for_o love_n sake_n beseech_v you_o we_o remit_v of_o that_o we_o may_v do_v even_o because_o in_o all_o love_a kindness_n and_o meekness_n of_o the_o spirit_n we_o will_v reconcile_v you_o unto_o god_n and_o join_v you_o unto_o the_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o your_o peace_n for_o therefore_o we_o beseech_v you_o that_o by_o mildness_n we_o may_v prevail_v in_o that_o wherein_o of_o right_a we_o may_v command_v but_o this_o withal_o you_o must_v note_v that_o our_o beseech_v of_o you_o be_v to_o be_v unto_o you_o as_o if_o we_o command_v you_o for_o when_o the_o apostle_n say_v 2.1.2_o 2_o thes_n 2.1.2_o we_o beseech_v you_o brethren_z by_o the_o come_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o by_o our_o assemble_v unto_o he_o that_o you_o be_v not_o sudden_o move_v from_o your_o mind_n etc._n etc._n what_o else_o be_v his_o beseech_v of_o the_o thessalonian_o but_o a_o adjuration_n of_o they_o by_o these_o thing_n that_o they_o be_v not_o trouble_v about_o the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n
heart_n holy_a david_n here_o that_o upright_o and_o just_a man_n holy_a job_n here_o that_o choose_a vessel_n to_o bear_v christ_n his_o name_n before_o the_o gentile_n our_o holy_a apostle_n shall_v have_v their_o fault_n and_o their_o fall_n here_o abraham_n and_o lot_n will_v be_v sometime_o at_o variance_n here_o paul_n and_o barnabas_n will_v sometime_o not_o be_v of_o one_o accord_n here_o paul_n and_o peter_n will_v sometime_o not_o be_v of_o one_o judgement_n here_o we_o shall_v have_v our_o fall_n we_o shall_v have_v our_o imperfection_n whatsoever_o we_o be_v only_o in_o the_o city_n which_o be_v above_o shall_v all_o tear_n be_v wipe_v from_o our_o eye_n all_o wane_v supply_v all_o imperfection_n perfect_v all_o sin_n cease_v and_o all_o enemy_n be_v utter_o destroy_v only_o there_o our_o knowledge_n our_o judgement_n our_o love_n our_o peace_n our_o joy_n shall_v be_v perfect_a how_o shall_v we_o not_o long_o then_o to_o remove_v out_o of_o the_o body_n and_o to_o dwell_v with_o the_o lord_n and_o yet_o to_o earthly_a mind_a be_v we_o many_o of_o we_o that_o here_o we_o can_v be_v content_a to_o pitch_v our_o tabernacle_n and_o never_o to_o remove_v hence_o even_o as_o if_o we_o love_v darkness_n better_a than_o light_n and_o have_v rather_o dwell_v in_o the_o valley_n of_o tear_n then_o in_o the_o valley_n of_o blessing_n where_o we_o be_v but_o stranger_n then_o at_o home_n in_o our_o own_o city_n let_v we_o belove_a remember_v that_o here_o the_o best_a of_o we_o have_v our_o blemish_n and_o that_o when_o it_o be_v it_o the_o best_a with_o we_o we_o be_v but_o in_o the_o way_n unto_o that_o which_o be_v best_a of_o all_o for_o we_o that_o the_o best_a reform_a church_n on_o earth_n be_v not_o thorough_o reform_v and_o that_o the_o most_o sanctify_a man_n on_o earth_n be_v but_o only_o in_o part_n sanctify_v and_o let_v we_o make_v this_o benefit_n hereof_o daily_o more_o and_o more_o to_o grow_v out_o of_o love_n with_o this_o life_n and_o in_o love_n with_o that_o life_n in_o which_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o more_o death_n daily_o more_o and_o more_o to_o weyne_v ourselves_o from_o the_o vanity_n of_o jerusalem_n which_o be_v on_o earth_n where_o many_o thing_n will_v be_v do_v through_o contention_n and_o vainglory_n and_o to_o have_v our_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n where_o we_o shall_v all_o be_v like_o mind_a have_v the_o same_o mind_n and_o be_v of_o one_o accord_n and_o of_o one_o judgement_n and_o let_v this_o suffice_v to_o be_v observe_v in_o general_a from_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o apostle_n exhortation_n whereby_o you_o see_v the_o state_n even_o of_o the_o best_a reform_a church_n and_o so_o of_o the_o most_o holy_a man_n and_o what_o use_n be_v to_o be_v make_v of_o the_o imperfection_n which_o follow_v the_o most_o perfect_a in_o this_o life_n now_o let_v we_o come_v unto_o the_o several_a point_n whereunto_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v the_o philippian_n and_o in_o they_o us._n the_o first_o thing_n whereunto_o he_o exhort_v they_o be_v in_o general_a that_o they_o be_v like_o mind_a or_o like_o affection_a as_o the_o same_o phrase_n be_v translate_v else_o where_o 12.16_o ro._n 12.16_o have_v their_o affection_n like_n and_o desire_v set_v on_o the_o same_o thing_n for_o in_o this_o as_o in_o the_o general_n be_v comprise_v as_o i_o take_v it_o those_o particular_n which_o follow_v in_o this_o verse_n so_o that_o when_o he_o exhort_v they_o to_o be_v like_o mind_a it_o be_v in_o general_a that_o their_o affection_n be_v set_v on_o the_o same_o thing_n love_v the_o same_o thing_n according_a in_o desire_n of_o the_o same_o thing_n and_o according_a in_o judgement_n of_o the_o same_o thing_n but_o all_o in_o the_o lord_n whence_o i_o observe_v a_o necessary_a duty_n in_o all_o christian_n call_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n by_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n jesus_n which_o be_v that_o they_o be_v like_o mind_a in_o the_o lord_n set_v their_o affection_n like_n and_o desire_n on_o the_o same_o thing_n in_o the_o lord_n a_o duty_n which_o our_o apostle_n prescribe_v almost_o as_o oft_o as_o any_o other_o duty_n 1.10_o 1_o cor._n 1.10_o in_o the_o begin_n of_o his_o former_a to_o the_o corinthian_n he_o beseech_v they_o by_o the_o name_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o they_o all_o speak_v one_o thing_n and_o that_o they_o be_v knit_v together_o in_o one_o mind_n and_o in_o one_o judgement_n where_o you_o see_v he_o beseech_v they_o and_o in_o they_o we_o even_o by_o the_o name_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n to_o be_v all_o of_o one_o mind_n and_o because_o disagree_v in_o word_n engender_v dissension_n of_o mind_n therefore_o that_o we_o may_v the_o rather_o be_v all_o of_o one_o mind_n he_o beseech_v we_o all_o to_o speak_v one_o thing_n in_o the_o end_n likewise_o of_o his_o latter_a to_o the_o corinthian_n 13.11_o 2_o cor._n 13.11_o he_o commend_v this_o duty_n unto_o they_o say_v final_o brethren_n fare_v you_o well_o be_v perfect_a be_v of_o good_a comfort_n be_v of_o one_o mind_n as_o think_v this_o duty_n so_o necessary_a that_o both_o in_o the_o beginning_n and_o in_o that_o will_v care_n for_o they_o in_o thing_n most_o needful_a and_o few_o of_o all_o that_o will_v in_o such_o sort_n care_n for_o they_o in_o thing_n needful_a as_o may_v be_v most_o behooveful_a for_o they_o if_o the_o course_n most_o behooveful_a for_o our_o friend_n be_v somewhat_o hurtful_a for_o ourselves_o we_o will_v rather_o think_v of_o some_o other_o course_n than_o that_o whereby_o we_o may_v so_o help_v our_o friend_n as_o that_o withal_o we_o may_v not_o hurt_v ourselves_o and_o so_o that_o we_o show_v ourselves_o friend_n we_o think_v it_o be_v well_o though_o we_o do_v not_o so_o much_o as_o we_o shall_v well_o i_o wish_v we_o will_v think_v of_o this_o example_n of_o our_o holy_a apostle_n and_o as_o he_o be_v most_o diligent_a and_o careful_a not_o only_o to_o comfort_v
