this_o pathetic_a declaration_n of_o my_o text_n great_a peace_n have_v they_o that_o love_v thy_o law_n in_o the_o handle_n of_o these_o word_n i_o shall_v brief_o consider_v these_o four_o thing_n first_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o when_o a_o man_n may_v be_v say_v to_o love_v it_o second_o what_o we_o be_v to_o understand_v by_o peace_n which_o the_o psalmist_n join_v with_o the_o love_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n as_o a_o inseparable_a adjunct_n or_o effect_n thereof_o three_o i_o shall_v illustrate_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o assertion_n and_o consider_v the_o various_a efficacy_n and_o operation_n of_o the_o love_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n to_o the_o production_n of_o joy_n and_o peace_n four_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o the_o full_a and_o perfect_a agreement_n of_o this_o peace_n thus_o flow_v from_o the_o love_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n to_o the_o character_n of_o my_o text_n great_a peace_n etc._n etc._n and_o last_o make_v application_n of_o the_o whole_a i._o i_o begin_v with_o the_o first_o of_o these_o namely_o to_o consider_v what_o be_v mean_v by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o when_o a_o man_n may_v be_v say_v to_o love_v it_o though_o the_o law_n in_o scripture_n sometime_o signify_v the_o particular_a oeconomy_n of_o the_o jew_n sometime_o but_o a_o part_n of_o the_o mosaic_a institution_n yet_o here_o in_o my_o text_n it_o must_v be_v understand_v in_o the_o largest_n sense_n of_o all_o the_o various_a manifestation_n of_o the_o will_n of_o god_n as_o well_o in_o the_o secret_a impression_n of_o our_o duty_n upon_o mind_n as_o in_o those_o more_o sensible_a revelation_n so_o far_o as_o their_o reason_n be_v general_a and_o their_o obligation_n moral_a to_o the_o patriarch_n to_o moses_n and_o the_o prophet_n of_o old_a and_o at_o last_o by_o his_o son_n our_o saviour_n and_o that_o because_o there_o be_v no_o restriction_n in_o the_o text_n no_o confinement_n of_o it_o to_o any_o particular_a part_n of_o the_o law_n which_o then_o have_v be_v absolute_o necessary_a for_o the_o understanding_n and_o practice_n of_o the_o proposition_n but_o chief_o because_o the_o necessity_n of_o the_o matter_n itself_o require_v it_o forasmuch_o as_o a_o habitual_a peace_n can_v never_o be_v say_v to_o flow_v from_o the_o love_n of_o a_o part_n where_o our_o obligation_n be_v alike_o to_o the_o whole_a law_n now_o to_o love_v the_o law_n of_o god_n if_o we_o comprehend_v it_o in_o a_o word_n be_v so_o to_o discern_v the_o worth_n the_o beauty_n and_o perfection_n of_o it_o as_o to_o prefer_v it_o to_o choose_v it_o and_o govern_v our_o life_n according_a to_o it_o for_o a_o quick_a and_o lively_a sense_n of_o excellency_n in_o a_o object_n or_o of_o particular_a kindness_n and_o beneficence_n to_o ourselves_o be_v the_o necessary_a and_o only_a cause_n and_o principle_n of_o love_n which_o show_v itself_o in_o admiration_n pleasure_n and_o impatient_a desire_n of_o the_o most_o intimate_a and_o complete_a enjoyment_n now_o the_o excellency_n of_o a_o law_n be_v the_o authority_n of_o its_o author_n the_o wisdom_n benefit_n equity_n compassion_n and_o impartiality_n of_o the_o law_n itself_o wheresoever_o therefore_o we_o discern_v these_o lovely_a quality_n glorious_a in_o themselves_o and_o the_o high_a perfection_n of_o a_o law_n our_o judgement_n of_o necessity_n will_v approve_v it_o our_o affection_n will_v be_v ravish_v our_o soul_n will_v desire_v to_o be_v conform_v and_o unite_v to_o it_o to_o be_v cast_v into_o the_o same_o mould_n to_o be_v tincture_v with_o the_o same_o perfection_n to_o do_v and_o to_o be_v what_o the_o law_n require_v as_o the_o
