whatever_o act_n of_o love_n we_o exercise_v towards_o our_o neighbour_n they_o must_v come_v from_o the_o heart_n and_o from_o a_o sense_n of_o our_o duty_n and_o of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o these_o act_n must_v be_v so_o manage_v that_o they_o become_v not_o accessary_a to_o other_o man_n sin_n for_o it_o be_v no_o love_n to_o love_v another_o into_o sin_n or_o sinful_a compliance_n which_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o the_o apostle_n press_v this_o peace_n and_o love_n to_o our_o neighbour_n make_v holiness_n its_o inseparable_a companion_n follow_v peace_n with_o all_o man_n and_o holiness_n without_o which_o no_o man_n shall_v see_v the_o lord_n heb._n twelve_o 14_o and_o this_o love_n be_v call_v the_o royal_a law_n jam._n two_o 8_o not_o because_o the_o king_n of_o let_v we_o bold_o vent_v our_o hatred_n even_o against_o all_o his_o work_n and_o all_o his_o evil_a suggestion_n which_o way_n soever_o they_o be_v present_v to_o we_o whether_o by_o the_o flesh_n or_o by_o the_o world_n or_o by_o evil_a men._n here_o we_o need_v move_v no_o scruple_n no_o case_n of_o conscience_n how_o far_o we_o may_v lawful_o hate_v the_o devil_n we_o be_v to_o hate_v he_o with_o a_o perfect_a hatred_n and_o express_v it_o by_o tremble_v and_o by_o abhorrency_n of_o all_o that_o be_v please_v to_o he_o or_o offensive_a to_o god_n it_o be_v true_a we_o see_v not_o the_o devil_n but_o we_o feel_v he_o and_o whatever_o evil_a thought_n or_o desire_v or_o motion_n appear_v in_o our_o mind_n let_v we_o firm_o conclude_v it_o come_v either_o direct_o or_o indirect_o from_o that_o enemy_n to_o this_o enemy_n no_o kindness_n be_v to_o be_v show_v no_o league_n no_o peace_n no_o confederacy_n no_o not_o so_o much_o as_o a_o truce_n be_v to_o be_v make_v with_o he_o with_o he_o we_o be_v to_o wage_v war_n continual_o he_o be_v no_o subject_a capable_a of_o make_v peace_n with_o for_o peace_n with_o he_o be_v enmity_n against_o god_n wound_v our_o own_o soul_n destroy_v the_o peace_n of_o our_o conscience_n and_o descend_v into_o the_o chamber_n of_o hell_n inference_n 1._o if_o we_o take_v a_o view_n of_o the_o manner_n of_o man_n in_o the_o age_n we_o live_v in_o one_o will_v think_v that_o the_o pharisee_n be_v still_o alive_a and_o instill_v the_o same_o principle_n into_o they_o that_o they_o do_v into_o their_o disciple_n in_o christ_n day_n viz._n love_v your_o friend_n and_o hate_v your_o enemy_n for_o the_o action_n of_o man_n be_v so_o exact_o conformable_a to_o this_o rule_n that_o if_o a_o man_n be_v to_o measure_v christ_n religion_n by_o the_o practice_n of_o his_o follower_n he_o may_v go_v near_o to_o infer_v that_o christ_n teach_v this_o doctrine_n as_o well_o as_o the_o pharisee_n to_o hate_v a_o enemy_n we_o look_v upon_o to_o be_v a_o very_a just_a and_o reasonable_a thing_n and_o do_v he_o all_o the_o ill_a office_n as_o we_o have_v occasion_n to_o speak_v evil_a of_o he_o to_o reproach_v he_o to_o calumniate_v he_o to_o invent_v lie_n of_o he_o and_o to_o report_v they_o too_o we_o general_o make_v so_o light_a of_o that_o we_o wonder_v at_o the_o man_n that_o offer_v to_o exhort_v we_o to_o better_a principle_n among_o heathen_n and_o infidel_n this_o will_v not_o look_v very_o strange_a among_o man_n who_o never_o hear_v of_o a_o jesus_n or_o of_o the_o gospel_n this_o may_v pass_v though_o there_o be_v something_o even_o in_o the_o voice_n of_o nature_n which_o may_v teach_v they_o better_a thing_n but_o among_o christian_n who_o talk_n and_o sing_v and_o speak_v every_o day_n of_o god_n love_v they_o when_o they_o be_v his_o enemy_n this_o be_v a_o huge_a paradox_n christ_n exercise_v the_o great_a act_n of_o love_n towards_o we_o in_o die_v for_o we_o when_o we_o be_v enemy_n we_o confess_v it_o and_o our_o church_n ring_n of_o these_o glad_a tiding_n how_o easy_a will_v be_v the_o inference_n have_v god_n love_v i_o when_o i_o be_v his_o enemy_n and_o shall_v i_o hate_v my_o fellow-christian_a because_o i_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o my_o enemy_n be_v this_o my_o acknowledgement_n of_o god_n love_n be_v this_o to_o express_v my_o gratitude_n for_o his_o
