encouragement_n for_o all_o pastor_n and_o minister_n of_o god_n church_n to_o labour_v painful_o &_o faithful_o in_o their_o place_n for_o the_o goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n will_v never_o fail_v they_o nor_o shall_v they_o want_v comfort_n when_o ever_o they_o stand_v in_o need_n thereof_o yea_o rather_o shall_v angel_n from_o heaven_n be_v their_o help_n and_o comforter_n then_o faithful_a minister_n shall_v be_v leave_v destitute_a hitherto_o of_o the_o second_o general_a point_n namely_o of_o the_o prophet_n consolation_n the_o three_o and_o last_o general_a point_n be_v the_o renovatiou_n of_o the_o prophet_n commission_n point_n in_o the_o eight_o &_o part_n of_o the_o nine_o verse_n and_o it_o contain_v 3._o part_n 1._o a_o question_n or_o inquiry_n make_v by_o god_n when_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o 2_o the_o answer_n of_o the_o prophet_n here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o 3_o the_o commission_n renew_v unto_o he_o the_o lord_n say_v go_v and_o speak_v unto_o this_o people_n the_o first_o part_n be_v a_o question_n make_v by_o question_n god_n by_o way_n of_o proclamation_n wherein_o he_o enquire_v who_o shall_v go_v preach_v unto_o send_v this_o people_n also_o i_o hear_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o lord_n say_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o who_o shall_v gay_n for_o we_o in_o which_o proclamation_n and_o inquiry_n who_o of_o the_o lord_n we_o be_v not_o to_o imagine_v that_o the_o lord_n be_v either_o unprovided_a of_o such_o as_o shall_v execute_v his_o will_n or_o know_v not_o who_o be_v able_a or_o who_o be_v willing_a to_o go_v preach_v his_o word_n for_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v in_o the_o matter_n of_o election_n 19_o the_o lord_n know_v whr_fw-mi be_v he_o so_o much_o more_o in_o particular_a vocation_n the_o lord_n know_v who_o be_v his_o and_o need_v not_o to_o ask_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v or_o who_o shall_v go_v but_o than_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v why_o the_o doctrine_n lord_n say_v so_o i_o answer_v not_o for_o his_o own_o sake_n but_o for_o we_o who_o hereby_o he_o will_v instruct_v in_o diverse_a point_n of_o holy_a doctrine_n first_o hereby_o he_o will_v give_v we_o to_o understand_v how_o hard_o a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o find_v a_o able_a and_o godly_a minister_n for_o if_o minister_n there_o be_v not_o a_o great_a scarcity_n of_o such_o man_n the_o lord_n need_v not_o ask_v this_o question_n but_o some_o will_v object_v against_o this_o that_o there_o be_v in_o many_o christian_a down_o church_n so_o many_o minister_n as_o they_o can_v all_o be_v maintain_v but_o some_o go_v up_o and_o down_o undisposed_a and_o unprovided_a for_o i_o answer_v this_o be_v too_o true_a in_o all_o age_n there_o be_v wander_v church_n levits_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n which_o go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o offer_v their_o service_n and_o serve_v for_o 10._o shekel_n of_o silver_n and_o a_o suit_n of_o apparel_n and_o meat_n and_o drink_v but_o this_o calamity_n be_v upon_o the_o 6._o church_n of_o the_o jew_n never_o but_o then_o when_o there_o be_v no_o king_n in_o israel_n and_o every_o one_o do_v that_o which_o be_v good_a in_o his_o own_o eye_n if_o therefore_o there_o be_v any_o in_o our_o church_n and_o in_o christian_n nation_n which_o go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o offer_v their_o service_n at_o such_o rate_n it_o be_v much_o more_o miserable_a 6._o see_v now_o there_o be_v king_n in_o israel_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o reason_n that_o every_o man_n rob_v the_o church_n as_o it_o shall_v please_v his_o covetous_a mind_n but_o cease_v to_o inquire_v whether_o this_o be_v so_o or_o no_o and_o if_o it_o be_v so_o leave_v the_o reformation_n thereof_o to_o those_o church_n and_o state_n any_o who_o it_o may_v concern_v i_o answer_v for_o the_o matter_n in_o hand_n that_o this_o may_v be_v so_o and_o yet_o the_o lord_n may_v complain_v as_o here_o he_o do_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v for_o the_o lord_n mean_v not_o such_o as_o bear_v the_o name_n of_o levit_n or_o priest_n in_o the_o old_a or_o of_o minister_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n for_o there_o be_v always_o enough_o of_o they_o who_o some_o for_o preferment_n sake_n some_o for_o their_o ease_n and_o some_o for_o a_o refuge_n how_o to_o live_v be_v willing_a to_o enter_v that_o function_n and_o according_o in_o that_o call_n see_v not_o the_o lord_n but_o themselves_o and_o their_o own_o end_n but_o here_o the_o lord_n enquire_v for_o minister_n such_o man_n as_o first_o pure_o do_v seek_v and_o undertake_v that_o function_n therein_o to_o honour_n god_n and_o to_o gather_v his_o church_n and_o then_o in_o all_o their_o labour_n and_o ministerial_a duty_n true_o and_o faithful_o endeavour_n to_o the_o same_o end_n preach_v god_n word_n and_o as_o god_n word_n diligent_o reprove_v exhort_v and_o admonish_v and_o shine_v before_o their_o people_n in_o good_a work_n for_o such_o man_n it_o be_v no_o marvel_n though_o the_o lord_n light_v a_o candle_n at_o no_o one_o day_n and_o make_v open_a proclamation_n 16._o to_o seek_v for_o they_o say_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v for_o such_o a_o man_n be_v as_o job_n say_v one_o of_o a_o thousand_o for_o some_o wat_fw-mi ability_n to_o discharge_v their_o duty_n as_o s._n paul_n say_v who_o be_v sufficient_a for_o those_o thing_n and_o some_o want_n willingness_n to_o undertake_v the_o labour_n as_o god_n here_o complain_v who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o now_o to_o make_v use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n to_o our_o church_n it_o be_v to_o be_v wish_v that_o in_o these_o day_n &_o for_o our_o christian_n church_n the_o lord_n day_n have_v not_o as_o great_a cause_n to_o cry_v out_o in_o the_o want_n of_o able_a faithful_a and_o godly_a minister_n who_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o but_o alas_o this_o want_n be_v too_o apparent_a and_o this_o blemish_n be_v too_o notorious_a and_o it_o be_v a_o work_n worthy_a the_o labour_n of_o king_n and_o prince_n to_o reform_v it_o and_o be_v a_o king_n evil_a not_o to_o be_v heal_v but_o by_o the_o power_n of_o a_o king_n for_o as_o long_o as_o there_o be_v so_o few_o and_o mean_a preferment_n for_o painful_a minister_n there_o will_v never_o want_v abundance_n of_o such_o minister_n as_o do_v want_v either_o conscience_n or_o ability_n to_o discharge_v their_o duty_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n till_o god_n put_v into_o ministry_n the_o heart_n of_o parliament_n and_o prince_n to_o lock_v to_o this_o great_a and_o needful_a work_n let_v we_o minister_n learn_v our_o duty_n and_o first_o we_o who_o be_v in_o the_o university_n be_v here_o admonish_v to_o look_v to_o ourselves_o by_o god_n blessing_n we_o be_v many_o and_o daily_o grow_v more_o and_o more_o let_v we_o therefore_o so_o furnish_v ourselves_o as_o that_o when_o god_n or_o his_o church_n shall_v say_v who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o and_o who_o shall_v i_o send_v then_o he_o may_v find_v many_o among_o we_o who_o he_o may_v send_v to_o that_o great_a work_n of_o the_o minisierie_a &_o let_v we_o fear_v to_o be_v such_o as_o thar_z god_n may_v affirm_v of_o we_o as_o in_o the_o day_n of_o job_n that_o he_o can_v find_v one_o of_o a_o thousand_o second_o all_o minister_n learn_v here_o minister_n not_o to_o content_v themselves_o with_o the_o name_n and_o title_n of_o minister_n but_o labour_n for_o the_o substantial_a ornament_n thereof_o nor_o to_o be_v willing_a to_o take_v the_o honour_n and_o live_n and_o to_o refuse_v the_o burden_n and_o duty_n of_o the_o ministry_n for_o else_o let_v they_o know_v god_n have_v minister_n no_o need_n of_o they_o for_o have_v the_o lord_n please_v or_o content_v himself_o with_o such_o kind_n of_o man_n as_o seek_v to_o be_v minister_n for_o themselves_o and_o not_o for_o his_o sake_n or_o be_v minister_n do_v feed_v themselves_o and_o not_o their_o flock_n or_o preach_v themselves_o and_o not_o christ_n then_o have_v he_o not_o need_v to_o have_v make_v this_o proclamation_n for_o age_n have_v yield_v store_n of_o such_o but_o contrariwise_o he_o that_o be_v painful_a and_o faithful_a in_o this_o function_n let_v he_o know_v that_o god_n and_o his_o church_n have_v send_v need_n of_o he_o last_o here_o the_o romish_a clergy_n be_v just_o to_o be_v tax_v who_o number_n be_v infinite_a but_o it_o be_v lamentable_a to_o see_v how_o few_o among_o they_o be_v such_o as_o the_o lord_n here_o seek_v for_o their_o order_n of_o regulars_n be_v exceed_v many_o beside_o all_o their_o secular_a priest_n and_o it_o be_v almost_o incredible_a how_o many_o thousand_o there_o be_v of_o dominican_n or_o franciscan_n or_o in_o some_o one_o of_o their_o order_n and_o yet_o among_o the_o many_o million_o of_o their_o monk_n there_o be_v scarce_o to_o
some_o for_o tradesman_n some_o for_o man_n some_o for_o woman_n but_o repentance_n be_v for_o all_o without_o which_o it_o may_v be_v say_v of_o all_o and_o every_o one_o of_o age_n not_o one_o except_v no_o repentance_n no_o salvation_n these_o sermon_n be_v in_o my_o hand_n and_o not_o deliver_v to_o i_o from_o hand_n to_o hand_n but_o take_v with_o this_o hand_n of_o i_o from_o his_o own_o mouth_n be_v think_v worthy_a for_o the_o excellency_n &_o fit_a for_o the_o generality_n of_o the_o matter_n to_o be_v offer_v to_o the_o public_a view_v i_o have_v also_o other_o work_n of_o his_o in_o my_o hand_n of_o which_o be_v many_o i_o confess_v myself_o to_o be_v but_o the_o keeper_n for_o the_o time_n take_v myself_o bind_v to_o keep_v they_o safe_o to_o the_o benefit_n of_o god_n church_n of_o who_o treasure_n upon_o earth_n i_o make_v no_o question_n but_o they_o be_v a_o part_n and_o i_o hearty_o desire_v you_o my_o godly_a friend_n &_o all_o other_o faithful_a christian_n to_o solicit_v the_o lord_n in_o prayer_n for_o i_o that_o i_o may_v faithful_o discharge_v myself_o of_o that_o great_a charge_n which_o in_o this_o respect_n lie_v upon_o i_o and_o that_o his_o grace_n and_o blessing_n may_v be_v on_o i_o and_o all_o other_o who_o be_v to_o be_v employ_v in_o this_o service_n wherein_o have_v the_o lord_n so_o please_v we_o can_v hearty_o have_v wish_v never_o to_o have_v be_v employ_v but_o that_o his_o life_n may_v have_v ease_v we_o of_o the_o labour_n and_o that_o as_o i_o begin_v with_o this_o so_o i_o or_o some_o other_o better_a able_a which_o i_o rather_o desire_v may_v go_v forward_o undertake_v the_o weight_n of_o this_o great_a burden_n and_o not_o faint_a till_o he_o have_v make_v a_o faithful_a account_n to_o the_o church_n of_o god_n of_o all_o these_o jewel_n deliver_v to_o our_o trust_n and_o now_o these_o first_o fruit_n of_o my_o labour_n in_o another_o man_n vineyard_n as_o also_o all_o that_o hereafter_o do_v or_o may_v follow_v i_o humble_o consecrate_v to_o the_o bless_a spouse_n of_o christ_n jesus_n the_o holy_a church_n of_o god_n on_o earth_n and_o namely_o to_o the_o church_n of_o england_n our_o belove_a mother_n who_o may_v rejoice_v that_o she_o be_v the_o mother_n of_o such_o a_o son_n who_o in_o few_o year_n do_v so_o much_o good_a to_o the_o public_a cause_n of_o religion_n as_o the_o wickedness_n of_o many_o year_n shall_v not_o death_n be_v able_a to_o wear_v out_o but_o first_o of_o all_o and_o especial_o i_o present_v the_o same_o unto_o you_o my_o very_a worsh_n and_o for_o he_o who_o be_v the_o author_n hereof_o who_o mouth_n speak_v it_o from_o the_o feel_n of_o his_o soul_n &_o who_o soul_n be_v now_o bind_v up_o in_o the_o bundle_n of_o life_n i_o know_v and_o can_v in_o good_a conscience_n conceal_v the_o great_a delight_n you_o have_v always_o have_v in_o the_o read_n of_o his_o book_n the_o reverend_a opinion_n you_o have_v of_o he_o live_v and_o how_o heavy_o and_o passionate_o you_o take_v his_o death_n and_o departure_n therefore_o to_o cheer_v you_o up_o in_o want_n of_o he_o i_o send_v you_o here_o this_o little_a book_n his_o own_o child_n beget_v in_o his_o life_n time_n but_o bear_v after_o his_o death_n observe_v it_o well_o and_o you_o shall_v find_v it_o not_o unlike_o the_o father_n yea_o you_o shall_v discern_v in_o it_o the_o father_n spirit_n and_o it_o doubt_v not_o but_o to_o find_v entertainment_n with_o they_o of_o who_o the_o father_n be_v so_o well_o respect_v and_o for_o myself_o i_o spare_v to_o rehearse_v what_o at_o the_o last_o day_n from_o the_o lord_n my_o god_n who_o word_n at_o my_o mouth_n you_o have_v receive_v with_o much_o reverence_n and_o with_o such_o profit_n as_o if_o i_o have_v the_o like_a success_n of_o my_o labour_n in_o other_o i_o shall_v then_o never_o have_v cause_n to_o say_v with_o the_o prophet_n i_o have_v labour_v in_o vain_a &_o spend_v my_o strength_n in_o vain_a but_o my_o judgement_n be_v with_o the_o lord_n &_o my_o work_n with_o my_o god_n and_o if_o i_o know_v you_o not_o to_o be_v such_o as_o take_v more_o delight_n in_o do_v well_o then_o in_o hear_v of_o it_o i_o will_v prove_v at_o large_a what_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o you_o yet_o give_v i_o leave_v to_o say_v that_o which_o without_o open_a wrong_n i_o may_v not_o conceal_v that_o beside_o your_o rare_a knowledge_n and_o godly_a zeal_n to_o religion_n and_o other_o duty_n of_o the_o first_o table_n to_o god_n himself_o your_o charity_n &_o pity_n to_o the_o needy_a distress_a christian_n at_o home_o and_o abroad_o your_o merciful_a deal_n with_o they_o who_o be_v in_o your_o power_n your_o benevolence_n to_o learning_n and_o namely_o to_o some_o in_o the_o university_n do_v all_o proclaim_v to_o the_o world_n those_o your_o due_a praise_n which_o i_o well_o know_v your_o modesty_n do_v spare_v once_o to_o name_n neither_o will_v i_o have_v say_v thus_o much_o be_v it_o not_o for_o this_o cold_a and_o barren_a age_n wherein_o we_o live_v that_o so_o when_o our_o preach_n can_v move_v yet_o your_o godly_a example_n may_v stir_v up_o pardon_v i_o therefore_o i_o pray_v you_o and_o think_v it_o no_o wrong_n to_o you_o which_o be_v a_o benefit_n to_o god_n church_n but_o go_v forward_o in_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o lord_n your_o god_n &_o hold_v on_o in_o that_o happy_a 24._o course_n you_o have_v begin_v be_v faithful_a unto_o the_o end_n the_o lord_n will_v give_v you_o the_o crown_n of_o life_n faithful_a be_v he_o which_o have_v promise_v who_o will_v also_o do_v it_o proceed_v good_a sir_n to_o honour_v learning_n in_o yourself_o and_o other_o and_o religion_n especial_o which_o be_v the_o principal_a learning_n and_o proceed_v both_o of_o you_o to_o practice_v religion_n in_o your_o own_o person_n and_o in_o your_o family_n hold_v on_o to_o shine_v before_o your_o family_n and_o among_o the_o people_n where_o you_o dwell_v in_o zeal_n and_o holiness_n hold_v on_o hereby_o still_o to_o shame_v popery_n to_o stop_v your_o enemy_n mouth_n and_o to_o honour_v that_o holy_a religion_n which_o you_o profess_v to_o gain_v comfort_n of_o good_a conscience_n to_o yourselves_o &_o assurance_n of_o eternal_a reward_n and_o last_o to_o encourage_v i_o in_o those_o painful_a duty_n which_o lie_v upon_o i_o for_o i_o open_o profess_v that_o your_o religious_a zeal_n and_o love_n of_o the_o truth_n with_o many_o other_o good_a help_n be_v principal_a encouragement_n in_o my_o ministry_n &_o especial_a motive_n unto_o i_o to_o undertake_v the_o charge_n of_o publication_n of_o so_o many_o of_o the_o work_n of_o this_o holy_a man_n decease_v as_o may_v not_o in_o better_a manner_n be_v do_v by_o other_o but_o i_o keep_v you_o too_o long_o from_o this_o holy_a exhortation_n follow_v i_o therefore_o send_v you_o to_o it_o &_o it_o to_o you_o and_o from_o you_o to_o the_o church_n of_o god_n for_o i_o dare_v not_o make_v it_o to_o be_v private_o you_o and_o i_o wherein_o the_o whole_a church_n have_v interest_n as_o well_o as_o we_o it_o be_v preach_v in_o the_o field_n but_o it_o be_v worthy_a to_o be_v admit_v into_o our_o heart_n i_o find_v it_o in_o the_o open_a field_n but_o upon_o diligent_a view_n find_v it_o to_o be_v god_n corn_n and_o a_o parcel_n of_o his_o holy_a and_o immortal_a seed_n therefore_o i_o bring_v it_o home_o as_o good_a corn_n deserve_v and_o as_o it_o be_v god_n corn_n so_o in_o you_o i_o desire_v all_o holy_a christian_n to_o lay_v it_o up_o in_o god_n garner_n that_o be_v in_o their_o heart_n and_o soul_n and_o thus_o commit_v this_o little_a volume_n to_o your_o read_n the_o matter_n
must_v therefore_o know_v that_o his_o sin_n in_o eat_v the_o forbid_a fruit_n be_v thy_o sin_n and_o thou_o sin_v therein_o as_o well_o as_o he_o though_o thou_o be_v then_o unborn_a and_o that_o thou_o be_v guilty_a of_o it_o before_o god_n and_o must_v answer_v for_o it_o to_o god_n justice_n unless_o christ_n do_v it_o for_o thou_o the_o reason_n hereof_o be_v because_o we_o be_v his_o well_o as_o for_o himself_o if_o we_o doubt_v of_o this_o point_n it_o be_v prove_v by_o the_o apostle_n where_o the_o holy_a ghost_n say_v sin_n enter_v by_o one_o man_n and_o death_n by_o sin_n and_o that_o sin_n go_v over_o all_o and_o that_o it_o go_v over_o 14_o all_o they_o which_o sin_v not_o in_o the_o like_a transgression_n with_o adam_n that_o be_v even_o our_o child_n who_o as_o they_o be_v bear_v be_v bear_v not_o only_o taint_v with_o original_a corruption_n but_o guilty_a also_o of_o adam_n sin_n this_o be_v a_o most_o certain_a truth_n though_o it_o seem_v strange_a for_o few_o man_n think_v of_o it_o that_o ever_o they_o shall_v answer_v for_o adam_n sin_n and_o therefore_o if_o any_o object_n what_o reason_n be_v there_o that_o i_o answer_v for_o another_o man_n sin_n i_o answer_v true_a if_o it_o have_v be_v adam_n sin_n alone_o but_o it_o be_v he_o and_o thou_o also_o for_o he_o be_v thy_o father_n and_o stand_v in_o thy_o room_n and_o thou_o also_o since_o best_a nature_a man_n make_v choice_n of_o the_o best_a man_n and_o the_o great_a sin_n and_o that_o worst_a sin_n be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o that_o best_a man_n if_o any_o doubt_n of_o this_o let_v he_o consider_v what_o original_a sin_n be_v namely_o a_o corruption_n of_o the_o power_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o that_o not_o of_o some_o or_o in_o part_n but_o of_o all_o and_o whole_o this_o their_o good_a meaning_n and_o upright_o heart_n and_o brag_v of_o a_o good_a nature_n but_o they_o be_v foul_o deceive_v for_o take_v the_o civil_a man_n upon_o the_o earth_n and_o the_o seed_n of_o all_o sin_n in_o the_o world_n be_v in_o he_o by_o nature_n but_o to_o explain_v this_o point_n full_o observe_v these_o two_o clause_n first_o i_o say_v not_o the_o practice_n of_o all_o sin_n but_o the_o seed_n for_o all_o man_n practise_v not_o all_o sin_n the_o seed_n be_v in_o their_o nature_n but_o the_o practice_n be_v restrain_v sometime_o by_o education_n sometime_o by_o good_a and_o wholesome_a law_n sometime_o the_o constitution_n of_o man_n body_n deny_v the_o practice_n of_o some_o sin_n sometime_o the_o country_n a_o man_n dwell_v in_o or_o call_v a_o man_n live_v in_o keep_v he_o from_o the_o practice_n of_o some_o sin_n and_o always_o a_o general_a and_o limit_v grace_n of_o god_n restrain_v the_o nature_n of_o all_o man_n from_o run_v into_o many_o sin_n which_o hand_n of_o god_n if_o god_n shall_v take_v away_o and_o leave_v every_o man_n to_o his_o nature_n we_o shall_v see_v that_o every_o man_n will_v practice_v any_o sin_n in_o the_o world_n yea_o even_o the_o great_a sin_n that_o ever_o we_o hear_v to_o be_v do_v in_o the_o world_n all_o man_n which_o know_v themselves_o know_v this_o to_o be_v true_a and_o the_o more_o a_o man_n know_v his_o own_o heart_n the_o more_o he_o see_v that_o his_o heart_n be_v a_o sea_n of_o all_o wickedness_n &_o that_o it_o be_v the_o mercy_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n that_o he_o have_v not_o fall_v into_o the_o mighty_a &_o most_o monstrous_a sin_n in_o the_o world_n second_o i_o say_v by_o nature_n for_o i_o know_v by_o good_a education_n &_o by_o grace_n it_o be_v otherwise_o grace_n rectify_v nature_n but_o that_o be_v no_o thanks_n to_o nature_n for_o it_o be_v as_o evil_a and_o corrupt_a still_o be_v sever_v from_o grace_n and_o therefore_o nature_n must_v be_v full_o abolish_v afore_o man_n come_v to_o heaven_n and_o yet_o though_o all_o this_o be_v true_a i_o say_v not_o that_o sin_n break_v out_o in_o all_o nature_n alike_o though_o all_o nature_n be_v alike_o corrupt_a for_o the_o course_n of_o nature_n be_v restrain_v in_o some_o more_o than_o other_o by_o the_o mean_v aforesaid_a but_o this_o be_v the_o truth_n that_o whereas_o some_o be_v not_o so_o angry_a some_o not_o so_o wanton_a some_o not_o so_o cruel_a some_o not_o so_o covetous_a some_o not_o so_o ambitious_a etc._n etc._n as_o other_o that_o come_v not_o from_o any_o goodness_n of_o nature_n in_o they_o above_o the_o other_o original_o but_o from_o god_n hand_n which_o temper_v restrain_v and_o moderate_v every_o man_n nature_n as_o he_o see_v good_a and_o if_o god_n do_v not_o thus_o moderate_a &_o restrain_v the_o nature_n of_o man_n but_o suffer_v they_o to_o break_v out_o to_o the_o full_a there_o will_v then_o be_v no_o order_n but_o all_o confusion_n in_o the_o world_n therefore_o as_o especial_o for_o his_o church_n quietness_n so_o also_o for_o the_o preservation_n of_o public_a peace_n and_o the_o uphold_v of_o society_n in_o the_o world_n between_o man_n and_o man_n the_o lord_n hold_v a_o hand_n over_o every_o man_n nature_n and_o keep_v every_o one_o in_o a_o certain_a compass_n limit_v by_o the_o wisdom_n of_o his_o power_n which_o restrain_v hand_n of_o he_o if_o the_o lord_n shall_v take_v away_o all_o society_n and_o common_a wealth_n will_v be_v turn_v upside_o down_o because_o every_o man_n by_o the_o universal_a corruption_n of_o his_o nature_n will_v break_v out_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o a_o proneness_n to_o it_o be_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o every_o man_n though_o not_o one_o man_n among_o many_o thousand_o do_v commit_v that_o sin_n for_o see_v in_o that_o sin_n there_o be_v a_o heap_n or_o sea_n of_o all_o sin_n gather_v together_o
belove_v of_o their_o god_n requite_v this_o his_o love_n which_o they_o have_v no_o more_o deserve_v than_o any_o other_o nation_n certain_o as_o they_o deserve_v it_o not_o afore_o they_o have_v it_o so_o they_o requite_v it_o not_o when_o they_o have_v it_o but_o requite_v this_o love_n of_o god_n with_o sin_n with_o rebellion_n and_o with_o disobedience_n they_o tempt_v he_o they_o provoke_v he_o to_o wrath_n they_o presume_v of_o his_o mercy_n &_o prove_v a_o most_o stubborn_a and_o stifnecked_a people_n a_o froward_a generation_n moses_n partly_o see_v this_o in_o his_o own_o this_o we_o have_v a_o land_n also_o that_o flow_v with_o milk_n &_o honey_n it_o be_v plentiful_a in_o all_o good_a thing_n we_o have_v liberty_n &_o peace_n under_o a_o peaceable_a prince_n and_o the_o companion_n of_o peace_n prosperity_n plenty_n health_n wealth_n corn_n wool_n gold_n silver_n abundance_n of_o all_o thing_n that_o may_v please_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n thus_o have_v god_n deserve_v the_o love_n of_o england_n 2_o but_o now_o england_n how_o have_v thou_o requite_v this_o kindness_n of_o the_o lord_n certain_o even_o with_o a_o great_a measure_n of_o unkindness_n that_o be_v with_o more_o and_o great_a sin_n than_o ever_o israel_n do_v so_o that_o if_o moses_n speak_v true_a of_o they_o then_o may_v our_o moses_n much_o more_o true_o cry_v out_o against_o england_n deal_n in_o bargain_v betwixt_o man_n and_o man_n how_o hard_o be_v it_o to_o find_v a_o honest_a simple_a plain_a deal_n man_n and_o that_o even_o in_o such_o great_a assembly_n as_o this_o be_v i_o fear_v present_a experience_n will_v testify_v you_o be_v now_o many_o thousand_o gather_v together_o some_o to_o buy_v some_o to_o sell_v some_o to_o exchange_v remember_v that_o i_o have_v tell_v you_o a_o honest_a heart_a and_o plain_a deal_n man_n be_v hard_o to_o find_v therefore_o labour_v to_o approve_v yourselves_o sincere_a heart_v man_n remember_v the_o counsel_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n let_v no_o man_n oppress_v nor_o defraud_v his_o brother_n in_o bargain_v for_o the_o lord_n be_v the_o avenger_n of_o all_o such_o thing_n these_o sin_n be_v general_a and_o universal_a as_o a_o cancer_n and_o so_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o the_o 6._o 7._o and_o 8._o commandment_n though_o they_o be_v not_o altogether_o so_o common_a as_o these_o be_v murder_v adultery_n usury_n bribery_n extorsion_n cousenage_n they_o be_v a_o burden_n under_o which_o our_o earth_n groan_v and_o they_o cry_v against_o we_o to_o heaven_n so_o that_o upon_o as_o good_a or_o much_o
their_o trial_n let_v the_o ten_o commandment_n pass_v upon_o they_o and_o thy_o sin_n and_o corruption_n which_o thou_o find_v to_o be_v chaff_n blow_v they_o away_o by_o repentance_n so_o shall_v thou_o remain_v pure_a and_o clean_a wheat_n fit_a for_o the_o house_n and_o church_n of_o god_n in_o this_o world_n &_o for_o his_o kingdom_n in_o heaven_n but_o if_o we_o will_v not_o do_v this_o then_o alas_o what_o will_v follow_v my_o heart_n grieve_v to_o utter_v it_o but_o i_o must_v unless_o i_o shall_v be_v a_o false_a prophet_n and_o therefore_o i_o wil._n our_o long_a peace_n plenty_n this_o kingdom_n to_o some_o miserable_a ruin_n o_o therefore_o how_o happy_a be_v we_o if_o we_o can_v entertain_v this_o doctrine_n and_o practice_v it_o for_o in_o so_o do_v we_o shall_v prevent_v god_n judgement_n we_o shall_v continue_v the_o gospel_n to_o this_o land_n and_o preserve_v this_o glorious_a nation_n from_o be_v destroy_v or_o dispeople_v by_o some_o fearful_a judgement_n belove_a you_o come_v hither_o to_o this_o fair_a place_n purposely_o to_o buy_v and_o sell_v and_o thereby_o to_o better_v your_o estate_n in_o this_o world_n how_o happy_a then_o be_v you_o if_o beside_o the_o good_a market_n you_o make_v for_o your_o body_n and_o estate_n you_o learn_v also_o how_o to_o make_v yourselves_o abide_v the_o trial_n of_o god_n judgement_n and_o how_o to_o be_v make_v pure_a corn_n fit_a to_o replenish_v the_o garner_n of_o heaven_n &_o how_o to_o continue_v god_n favour_n and_o the_o gospel_n to_o this_o nation_n if_o thou_o go_v away_o with_o this_o lesson_n thou_o have_v a_o jewel_n more_o worth_a then_o if_o thou_o shall_v go_v home_o possess_v or_o all_o the_o huge_a riches_n of_o this_o fair_a you_o call_v this_o and_o such_o like_a time_n fair_a time_n but_o if_o thou_o learn_v this_o lesson_n right_a than_o thou_o may_v say_v that_o this_o be_v the_o fair_a day_n in_o deed_n that_o ever_o shine_v upon_o thou_o since_o thou_o be_v bear_v this_o precious_a jewel_n which_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o all_o this_o while_n i_o hear_v offer_n unto_o thou_o every_o one_o bring_v hither_o something_o to_o be_v sell_v this_o be_v the_o merchandise_n that_o i_o bring_v and_o set_v to_o sale_n unto_o you_o what_o ever_o commodity_n any_o of_o you_o bring_v it_o be_v from_o some_o quarter_n of_o this_o land_n but_o all_o be_v from_o the_o earth_n but_o this_o that_o i_o bring_v it_o be_v from_o heaven_n and_o all_o the_o earth_n can_v yield_v it_o and_o as_o it_o be_v from_o heaven_n so_o it_o be_v of_o a_o heavenly_a virtue_n and_o will_v work_v that_o which_o all_o the_o wealth_n in_o this_o fair_a be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v therefore_o cast_v not_o to_o buy_v the_o base_a and_o let_v pass_v the_o best_a of_o all_o and_o never_o allege_v that_o it_o be_v above_o thy_o compass_n and_o be_v a_o jewel_n it_o be_v too_o dear_a and_o costly_a for_o thou_o for_o i_o offer_v it_o free_o unto_o you_o and_o to_o every_o one_o of_o you_o i_o pronounce_v unto_o you_o from_o the_o 55._o lord_n that_o here_o this_o bless_a doctrine_n be_v offer_v unto_o you_o all_o in_o his_o name_n free_o and_o that_o you_o may_v buy_v it_o gospel_n nor_o this_o peace_n will_v reach_v to_o our_o posterity_n therefore_o now_o to_o make_v a_o end_n i_o once_o again_o &_o last_o commend_v this_o doctrine_n to_o you_o all_o &_o every_o one_o ourselves_o in_o the_o breach_n and_o pray_v for_o the_o ignorances_n of_o the_o multitude_n and_o bewail_v their_o sin_n who_o bewail_v not_o their_o own_o so_o do_v 14._o noah_n daniel_n and_o job_n in_o their_o age_n and_o pray_v for_o the_o people_n in_o general_a calamity_n let_v we_o all_o be_v noah_n daniel_n and_o job_n in_o our_o generation_n if_o we_o do_v thus_o then_o when_o judgement_n come_v we_o shall_v either_o turn_v they_o away_o from_o our_o nation_n or_o at_o the_o least_o we_o shall_v deliver_v our_o own_o soul_n let_v we_o now_o turn_v to_o the_o lord_n in_o prayer_n and_o because_o it_o can_v be_v hope_v but_o that_o this_o our_o general_a sinfulness_n must_v needs_o end_v with_o some_o heavy_a judgement_n let_v we_o desire_v the_o lord_n still_o to_o defer_v our_o deserve_a punishment_n and_o still_o to_o spare_v we_o and_o to_o give_v we_o time_n and_o leisure_n to_o repent_v that_o so_o we_o enter_v into_o ourselves_o
poverty_n contempt_n &_o baseness_n upon_o it_o it_o be_v a_o work_n worth_a the_o labour_n of_o the_o wise_a head_n to_o put_v down_o the_o true_a mean_a betwixt_o both_o extreme_n &_o worth_a the_o labour_n of_o our_o noble_a king_n to_o take_v order_n that_o that_o mean_v be_v keep_v without_o rise_v to_o the_o right_a hand_n or_o fall_v to_o the_o left_a this_o short_a treatse_n may_v hap_v to_o give_v some_o light_n &_o direction_n therein_o or_o at_o least_o may_v encourage_v &_o stir_v up_o their_o heart_n in_o who_o hand_n it_o be_v to_o do_v it_o under_o your_o worthy_a name_n will_v i_o have_v it_o see_v the_o world_n not_o so_o much_o for_o that_o i_o be_o bind_v to_o you_o both_o in_o many_o private_a and_o particular_a respect_n though_o that_o be_v much_o as_o for_o that_o know_v you_o both_o to_o be_v oâ—_n so_o right_a and_o reform_v a_o judgement_n in_o this_o case_n as_o you_o will_v have_v none_o minister_n but_o of_o sufficient_a gift_n and_o unblameable_a life_n nor_o those_o minister_n put_v to_o their_o pension_n or_o uncertain_a salaile_n but_o to_o have_v certain_a &_o sufficient_a maintenance_n proportionable_a to_o their_o charge_n and_o beseem_v the_o honour_n of_o a_o christian_a church_n god_n continue_v you_o still_o in_o that_o mind_n and_o make_v many_o more_o of_o the_o same_o with_o you_o so_o shall_v we_o have_v as_o flourish_v a_o church_n as_o any_o christendom_n have_v see_v go_v forward_o in_o that_o and_o other_o your_o religious_a resolution_n it_o be_v the_o true_a way_n to_o honour_n both_o here_o and_o in_o a_o better_a world_n stand_v firm_o for_o the_o truth_n and_o bold_o against_o the_o popish_a enemy_n thereof_o as_o hitherto_o you_o have_v do_v religion_n have_v never_o more_o cause_v to_o thank_v you_o and_o before_o the_o world_n when_o man_n say_v of_o a_o preacher_n sure_o this_o man_n have_v show_v himself_o a_o proper_a scholar_n of_o good_a learning_n great_a read_n strong_a memory_n and_o good_a delivery_n preach_v and_o so_o it_o be_v and_o such_o commendation_n if_o just_a be_v not_o to_o be_v contemn_v but_o that_o that_o commend_v a_o man_n to_o the_o lord_n his_o god_n and_o to_o his_o own_o conscience_n be_v when_o he_o preach_v so_o plain_o to_o the_o capacity_n and_o so_o powerful_o to_o the_o conscience_n of_o a_o wicked_a man_n as_o that_o he_o think_v doubtless_o god_n be_v within_o he_o be_v thou_o therefore_o a_o angel_n of_o god_n then_o magnify_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o not_o thyself_o in_o thy_o preach_n of_o his_o word_n the_o next_o use_n be_v for_o the_o he_o even_o so_o all_o good_a minister_n be_v to_o stay_v god_n call_v if_o any_o ask_v how_o he_o shall_v know_v when_o call_n god_n call_v he_o i_o answer_v god_n call_v ordinary_o by_o his_o church_n her_o voice_n be_v he_o therefore_o whensoever_o the_o church_n of_o god_n say_v unto_o thou_o thou_o shall_v be_v send_v and_o â—â—ou_fw-mi shall_v go_v for_o we_o even_o than_o do_v the_o fit_a nor_o sound_a collection_n rather_o in_o my_o opinion_n we_o person_n may_v safe_o collect_v and_o conclude_v out_o of_o these_o word_n i_o and_o we_o that_o there_o be_v more_o person_n in_o to_o live_v there_o and_o send_v out_o other_o man_n and_o give_v testimony_n and_o letter_n of_o commendation_n themselves_o to_o other_o man_n but_o themselves_o stir_v not_o when_o question_n be_v make_v who_o shall_v go_v to_o such_o a_o place_n or_o who_o shall_v be_v send_v to_o such_o a_o parish_n they_o say_v not_o here_o be_o i_o but_o either_o it_o be_v too_o little_a a_o live_n or_o the_o contempt_n and_o burden_n of_o the_o ministry_n let_v such_o man_n therefore_o learn_v when_o god_n &_o his_o church_n give_v they_o a_o calling_n to_o answer_v with_o the_o prophet_n here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o and_o let_v all_o such_o as_o be_v student_n of_o ministry_n divinity_n in_o the_o university_n mark_v here_o the_o prophet_n answer_n not_o i_o will_v be_v ready_a but_o here_o i_o be_o why_o take_v he_o no_o long_a time_n because_o he_o be_v now_o sufficient_o qualify_v where_o let_v they_o learn_v not_o to_o linger_v and_o lie_v rot_v too_o long_o in_o their_o specidative_a course_n but_o when_o they_o be_v competent_o furnish_v with_o learning_n and_o other_o quality_n befit_v that_o call_n let_v they_o show_v themselves_o willing_a and_o ready_a to_o yield_v their_o service_n to_o the_o church_n when_o they_o shall_v be_v call_v for_o as_o a_o apple_n may_v as_o well_o soon_o hang_v too_o long_o on_o the_o tree_n as_o be_v pull_v too_o soon_o and_o both_o make_v it_o unfit_a for_o use_v so_o many_o man_n as_o well_o stay_v too_o long_o as_o go_v out_o too_o soon_o and_o both_o way_n be_v make_v unprofitable_a or_o at_o least_o less_o profitable_a in_o the_o church_n and_o to_o conclude_v this_o second_o point_n it_o be_v not_o unworthy_a to_o be_v note_v that_o the_o prophet_n say_v not_o here_o i_o be_o and_o i_o send_v run_v on_o my_o own_o head_n but_z send_v i_o he_o will_n the_o lord_n to_o send_v he_o then_o where_o be_v they_o who_o dare_v brag_v of_o their_o private_a motion_n and_o will_v run_v when_o they_o be_v not_o send_v the_o prophet_n may_v have_v say_v oh_o word_n now_o i_o feel_v a_o motion_n from_o the_o spirit_n therefore_o i_o will_v go_v and_o preach_v but_o he_o stay_v till_o he_o be_v send_v in_o express_a term_n let_v no_o man_n therefore_o presume_v to_o press_v into_o this_o function_n till_o he_o be_v full_o resolve_v in_o his_o conscience_n that_o god_n and_o his_o church_n have_v say_v unto_o he_o go_v and_o though_o a_o man_n be_v never_o so_o well_o qualify_v with_o all_o manner_n of_o sufficiency_n send_v yet_o let_v he_o sit_v still_o and_o stay_v god_n leisure_n and_o nor_o have_v any_o power_n in_o they_o unless_o they_o be_v speak_v by_o virtue_n protection_n of_o a_o commission_n nor_o have_v their_o labour_n any_o blessing_n unless_o god_n give_v it_o three_o out_o of_o his_o word_n and_o holy_a scripture_n and_o in_o particular_a word_n and_o personal_a duty_n where_o the_o word_n in_o plain_a term_n serve_v not_o he_o speak_v to_o a_o man_n by_o his_o own_o conscience_n and_o by_o the_o voice_n of_o his_o church_n out_o of_o his_o word_n god_n show_v thou_o the_o dignity_n and_o excellency_n of_o this_o call_n 18._o to_o be_v a_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n namely_o they_o be_v his_o messenger_n and_o ambassador_n etc._n etc._n that_o so_o he_o may_v win_v they_o to_o love_n and_o affect_v it_o and_o again_o the_o necessicitie_n of_o it_o that_o it_o teach_v the_o way_n to_o salvation_n that_o without_o it_o ordinary_o god_n church_n be_v not_o gather_v nor_o man_n soul_n save_v that_o this_o may_v stir_v thou_o gift_n up_o to_o wonder_v at_o but_o look_v at_o the_o life_n of_o our_o ordinary_a professor_n look_v at_o our_o sin_n and_o at_o our_o requite_v of_o god_n love_n and_o we_o be_v a_o people_n of_o sodom_n as_o full_a of_o iniquity_n as_o they_o be_v who_o sin_n be_v so_o many_o so_o rife_o and_o so_o ripe_a that_o at_o the_o last_o they_o will_v even_o bring_v down_o fire_n &_o brimstone_n or_o some_o other_o strange_a judgement_n upon_o we_o if_o repentance_n do_v not_o prevent_v it_o or_o the_o cry_n and_o prayer_n of_o holy_a man_n stay_v not_o god_n hand_n so_o then_o let_v we_o all_o here_o assemble_v grant_v &_o confess_v that_o we_o be_v a_o nation_n so_o far_o from_o be_v worthy_a to_o be_v belove_v as_o that_o we_o be_v most_o worthy_a to_o be_v hate_v &_o to_o have_v all_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n pour_v upon_o us._n now_o then_o be_v we_o so_o and_o shall_v we_o continue_v so_o still_o nay_o that_o be_v the_o worst_a and_o most_o wretched_a of_o all_o then_o let_v every_o one_o of_o we_o learn_v this_o duty_n enter_v into_o ourselves_o search_v our_o heart_n and_o life_n that_o they_o may_v lie_v open_a to_o our_o own_o sight_n to_o the_o confusion_n of_o we_o in_o god_n search_v yourselves_o find_v out_o your_o sin_n confess_v they_o to_o god_n free_o and_o ingenious_o confess_v their_o desert_n to_o be_v hell_n and_o damnation_n humble_a your_o heart_n to_o point_n in_o this_o exhortation_n be_v the_o time_n limit_v they_o when_o they_o shall_v search_v before_o the_o decree_n come_v forth_o etc._n etc._n as_o though_o the_o prophet_n shall_v say_v israel_n repent_v before_o god_n execute_v his_o judgement_n on_o thou_o for_o behold_v the_o gracious_a deal_n of_o god_n man_n sin_v his_o sin_n deserve_v plague_n but_o god_n present_o plague_v
