jot_n to_o profane_v his_o name_n so_o they_o may_v effect_v their_o malicious_a purpose_n and_o matter_n go_v on_o their_o side_n yet_o god_n will_v have_v a_o care_n that_o their_o wickedness_n shall_v return_v and_o fall_v upon_o their_o own_o head_n &_o their_o own_o shame_n shall_v cover_v their_o face_n and_o the_o wrong_n do_v both_o to_o his_o name_n and_o to_o his_o servant_n shall_v be_v full_o discover_v and_o avenge_v thus_o much_o concern_v the_o three_o commandment_n for_o the_o glorifieng_v of_o god_n name_n now_o follow_v the_o four_o in_o these_o word_n follow_v remember_v put_v to_o any_o civil_a labour_n yea_o that_o the_o stranger_n when_o he_o come_v among_o we_o do_v not_o open_o profane_v the_o same_o though_o we_o can_v enforce_v he_o to_o come_v to_o the_o public_a exercise_n yet_o those_o that_o be_v in_o superiority_n must_v restrain_v he_o from_o public_a violate_v of_o it_o by_o open_a work_n and_o must_v lay_v the_o authority_n so_o far_o upon_o he_o as_o that_o they_o suffer_v he_o not_o among_o their_o people_n and_o in_o their_o jurisdiction_n in_o the_o face_n of_o the_o congregation_n open_o to_o break_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n the_o reason_n be_v diverse_a first_o draw_v from_o the_o equity_n and_o righteousness_n of_o it_o in_o these_o word_n six_o day_n shall_v thou_o labour_v q._n d._n i_o have_v give_v thou_o six_o day_n for_o thy_o business_n and_o have_v take_v but_o one_o for_o myself_o therefore_o thou_o must_v be_v very_o well_o content_v to_o yield_v to_o i_o in_o this_o so_o reasonable_a and_o equal_a a_o in_o these_o word_n for_o in_o six_o day_n the_o lord_n make_v heaven_n &_o earth_n the_o sea_n and_o all_o that_o in_o they_o be_v and_o rest_v the_o seven_o day_n q._n d._n if_o thou_o will_v follow_v example_n and_o be_v lead_v by_o other_o then_o follow_v the_o example_n of_o the_o best_a now_o what_o better_a example_n can_v there_o be_v than_o the_o example_n of_o god_n himself_o now_o god_n himself_o when_o he_o go_v to_o make_v the_o world_n and_o all_o the_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n contrive_v all_o his_o work_n so_o as_o that_o he_o finish_v they_o within_o the_o compass_n of_o six_o day_n and_o on_o the_o seven_o day_n do_v rest_n from_o all_o his_o work_n of_o creation_n only_o preserve_v those_o thing_n which_o before_o he_o have_v make_v therefore_o from_o his_o example_n learn_v thou_o so_o to_o dispatch_v all_o thy_o business_n on_o the_o six_o day_n as_o that_o on_o the_o seven_o day_n cease_v from_o labour_n in_o thy_o call_n thou_o may_v whole_o give_v thyself_o to_o the_o duty_n of_o sanctification_n and_o to_o meditate_v on_o god_n power_n and_o greatness_n in_o his_o six_o day_n work_n for_o which_o end_n as_o one_o special_a thing_n to_o be_v sabbath_n thus_o much_o concern_v the_o sum_n and_o exposition_n of_o this_o commandment_n now_o because_o there_o be_v many_o that_o do_v disagree_v in_o this_o doctrine_n of_o the_o sabbath_n and_o account_v the_o keep_n holy_a of_o the_o seven_o day_n in_o the_o number_n of_o those_o ceremony_n which_o be_v abrogate_a by_o christ_n and_o reach_v only_o to_o the_o jew_n therefore_o it_o be_v requisite_a that_o we_o approve_v and_o confirm_v by_o some_o sound_a reason_n out_o of_o god_n word_n that_o this_o commandment_n be_v moral_a and_o perpetual_a and_o as_o careful_o to_o be_v keep_v under_o the_o gosple_n as_o under_o the_o law_n and_o to_o continue_v in_o force_n so_o long_o as_o any_o of_o the_o commandment_n even_o so_o long_o as_o there_o be_v this_o world_n and_o a_o church_n militant_a upon_o earth_n the_o first_o reason_n to_o confirm_v this_o may_v be_v draw_v from_o those_o reason_n which_o god_n use_v for_o the_o confirmation_n of_o it_o in_o the_o text_n the_o reason_n be_v all_o of_o they_o perpetual_a and_o none_o of_o they_o ceremonial_a and_o every_o one_o as_o much_o belong_v unto_o we_o as_o unto_o they_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v without_o reason_n to_o make_v the_o commandment_n itself_o of_o less_o scope_n and_o bind_v few_o to_o keep_v it_o than_o those_o reason_n which_o be_v bring_v to_o confirm_v it_o for_o go_v through_o the_o do_v give_v the_o ceremonial_a law_n by_o moses_n hand_n and_o use_v he_o as_o a_o instrument_n to_o write_v they_o but_o for_o the_o great_a reverence_n of_o these_o ten_o he_o will_v not_o use_v the_o help_n of_o moses_n hand_n and_o pen_n but_o with_o his_o own_o finger_n write_v they_o not_o in_o paper_n with_o ink_n but_o in_o stone_n to_o show_v the_o strength_n and_o continuance_n of_o they_o and_o command_v moses_n to_o put_v they_o in_o the_o ark_n to_o show_v that_o no_o man_n can_v fulfil_v &_o perfect_o obey_v they_o but_o only_o christ_n if_o these_o ten_o be_v all_o write_v by_o god_n and_o no_o exception_n make_v whereby_o the_o sabbath_n shall_v be_v inferior_a to_o the_o rest_n but_o altogether_o put_v into_o the_o ark_n than_o a_o man_n may_v even_o as_o well_o rend_v any_o of_o the_o other_o ten_o away_o as_o this_o yea_o and_o with_o more_o warrant_n to_o for_o none_o of_o they_o all_o be_v more_o fence_v with_o reason_n and_o mound_v about_o with_o more_o strong_a argument_n to_o keep_v out_o the_o cavil_n and_o objection_n of_o man_n than_o this_o so_o that_o where_o god_n have_v as_o it_o be_v of_o set_a purpose_n give_v more_o strength_n for_o a_o man_n to_o impute_v more_o weakness_n to_o this_o thing_n be_v a_o note_n either_o of_o great_a folly_n or_o else_o of_o singular_a impudency_n and_o impiety_n the_o four_o reason_n be_v draw_v from_o the_o person_n upon_o who_o it_o lie_v and_o unto_o who_o it_o be_v give_v for_o we_o know_v that_o the_o ceremony_n do_v lie_v only_o upon_o the_o jew_n the_o gentile_n be_v not_o bind_v to_o observe_v they_o but_o now_o this_o commandment_n say_v not_o only_o thou_o thy_o son_n thy_o daughter_n thy_o man_n thy_o maid_n which_o contain_v all_o the_o whole_a commonwealth_n but_o it_o go_v further_a &_o say_v thy_o stranger_n which_o be_v within_o thy_o gate_n so_o that_o if_o a_o heathen_a man_n of_o another_o country_n and_o religion_n have_v come_v among_o they_o the_o magistrate_n the_o sabbath_n confirm_v the_o sabbath_n most_o strong_o mat._n 24._o 20._o where_o speak_v of_o the_o destruction_n of_o jerusalem_n by_o vespasian_n and_o speak_v to_o the_o faithful_a of_o the_o church_n and_o true_a christian_n who_o prayer_n shall_v sure_o prevail_v he_o bid_v they_o pray_v that_o their_o flight_n be_v not_o upon_o the_o sabbath_n day_n or_o in_o the_o winter_n forty_o the_o sabbath_n yes_o and_o christ_n allow_v it_o but_o he_o know_v full_a well_o what_o grief_n it_o will_v bring_v to_o a_o christian_n soul_n to_o think_v alas_o i_o be_v wont_a as_o this_o day_n to_o sit_v quiet_o in_o the_o church_n and_o among_o god_n saint_n to_o hear_v the_o sweet_a comfort_n of_o his_o word_n deliver_v unto_o my_o soul_n and_o with_o praise_n to_o sing_v psalm_n of_o thanks_o unto_o god_n and_o to_o ask_v those_o thing_n with_o the_o rest_n of_o god_n people_n which_o we_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o where_o i_o receive_v such_o strength_n &_o comfort_n that_o i_o walk_v in_o the_o strength_n of_o these_o exercise_n the_o whole_a week_n after_o but_o now_o the_o pain_n of_o my_o body_n and_o the_o fear_n of_o my_o soul_n so_o distract_v i_o &_o take_v i_o up_o that_o have_v neither_o leisure_n nor_o ability_n to_o do_v so_o but_o i_o must_v want_v all_o these_o comfort_n christ_n know_v that_o this_o will_v be_v as_o bitter_a as_o death_n to_o a_o christian_a soul_n and_o therefore_o he_o will_v they_o to_o pray_v to_o god_n to_o prevent_v it_o that_o no_o such_o necessity_n be_v lay_v upon_o they_o now_o if_o this_o commandment_n and_o this_o day_n have_v be_v ceremonial_a they_o may_v have_v flee_v with_o as_o little_a care_n as_o any_o other_o for_o it_o have_v be_v abolish_v long_o afore_o by_o christ_n death_n and_o no_o such_o regard_n have_v be_v to_o be_v make_v of_o it_o in_o that_o christ_n do_v allow_v this_o conscience_n and_o regard_n of_o fly_v on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n more_o than_o any_o other_o of_o the_o week_n he_o show_v planly_a that_o the_o force_n of_o the_o sabbath_n be_v to_o abide_v after_o he_o for_o forty_o year_n and_o therefore_o no_o ceremony_n for_o then_o christ_n have_v not_o do_v well_o to_o put_v a_o needless_a fear_n into_o their_o heart_n of_o fly_v on_o the_o sabbath_n if_o god_n require_v no_o keep_n of_o the_o sabbath_n and_o then_o he_o shall_v rather_o have_v bid_v they_o pray_v to_o god_n that_o they_o may_v have_v have_v all_o respect_n of_o it_o be_v a_o ceremony_n take_v from_o they_o and_o tell_v they_o that_o they_o need_v not_o to_o regard_v it_o for_o it_o have_v be_v a_o great_a sin_n to_o have_v make_v such_o conscience_n of_o keep_v a_o ceremony_n so_o long_o after_o the_o abolish_n of_o they_o then_o if_o one_o shall_v not_o willing_o and_o not_o without_o for_o those_o wicked_a person_n that_o will_v cavil_n against_o every_o thing_n that_o cross_v their_o corrupt_a lust_n as_o the_o keep_n of_o a_o sabbath_n do_v exceed_o we_o must_v not_o great_o be_v move_v what_o they_o object_n for_o of_o they_o it_o be_v most_o true_a that_o solomon_n say_v bray_v a_o fool_n in_o a_o mortar_n as_o wheat_n be_v bray_v with_o a_o pestle_n and_o he_o will_v not_o forsake_v his_o folly_n but_o this_o may_v suffice_v to_o confirm_v and_o establish_v and_o instruct_v a_o christian_n
that_o with_o a_o true_a hart_n be_v willing_a to_o be_v teach_v and_o to_o confound_v also_o and_o condemn_v and_o leave_v without_o excuse_n before_o god_n judgement_n seat_n such_o as_o will_v not_o yield_v to_o plain_n and_o strong_a reason_n draw_v out_o of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o continue_v obstinate_a in_o their_o false_a conceit_n but_o because_o the_o point_n may_v be_v more_o plain_a and_o manifest_a it_o be_v good_a to_o answer_v some_o of_o their_o objection_n whereby_o they_o will_v overturn_v this_o plain_a truth_n now_o the_o grand_a objection_n be_v because_o we_o keep_v not_o the_o same_o sabbath_n that_o the_o jew_n do_v but_o the_o day_n be_v alter_v therefore_o they_o say_v we_o must_v keep_v none_o this_o be_v their_o argument_n of_o so_o great_a weight_n but_o how_o foolish_a it_o shall_v appear_v easy_o if_o we_o examine_v it_o a_o little_a more_o narrow_o for_o though_o we_o keep_v not_o the_o self_n same_o day_n that_o they_o do_v yet_o we_o have_v not_o despise_v they_o but_o so_o much_o the_o more_o be_v careful_a to_o prepare_v ourselves_o for_o they_o because_o the_o service_n be_v more_o easy_a &_o the_o promise_n more_o lightsome_a if_o then_o it_o will_v not_o hold_v that_o we_o have_v no_o sacrament_n because_o the_o outward_a seal_n be_v alter_v than_o it_o be_v as_o weak_a a_o consequence_n that_o we_o have_v no_o seven_o day_n to_o be_v sanctify_v because_o the_o day_n be_v alter_v and_o we_o keep_v not_o the_o same_o that_o they_o do_v so_o that_o no_o proof_n can_v be_v gather_v from_o the_o vary_a of_o the_o day_n that_o the_o duty_n be_v abolish_v because_o the_o authority_n be_v as_o strong_a the_o reason_n as_o good_a and_o the_o same_o reason_n do_v not_o hold_v in_o other_o thing_n again_o they_o object_n that_o to_o a_o christian_n every_o day_n be_v a_o sabbath_n day_n and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v not_o restrain_v it_o to_o one_o day_n more_o than_o another_o but_o the_o answer_n to_o this_o be_v that_o it_o be_v most_o false_a for_o god_n do_v not_o require_v neither_o be_v a_o christian_n able_a to_o keep_v every_o day_n a_o sabbath_n day_n so_o long_o as_o they_o remain_v on_o earth_n indeed_o in_o heaven_n he_o shall_v keep_v a_o continual_a sabbath_n unto_o the_o lord_n but_o now_o so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v there_o be_v as_o much_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o sabbath_n day_n and_o one_o must_v serve_v god_n on_o the_o six_o day_n and_o all_o his_o life_n long_o but_o on_o the_o seven_o day_n we_o must_v not_o only_o serve_v god_n

have_v go_v back_o again_o will_v have_v be_v to_o much_o pain_n why_o but_o do_v this_o make_v it_o lawful_a to_o cut_v your_o neighbour_n because_o you_o have_v forget_v your_o own_o nay_o who_o shall_v have_v remember_v it_o and_o not_o come_v to_o make_v such_o shift_n and_o even_o so_o man_n deal_v with_o god_n oh_o they_o can_v choose_v but_o break_v the_o sabbath_n they_o be_v drive_v to_o it_o of_o force_n necessity_n compel_v they_o and_o what_o necessity_n why_o such_o thing_n lie_v to_o be_v do_v that_o will_v be_v spoil_v else_o why_o but_o why_o do_v you_o forget_v they_o before_o now_o shall_v your_o former_a forgetfulness_n be_v a_o warrant_n for_o you_o to_o steal_v god_n holy_a time_n and_o abuse_v it_o to_o unholy_a thing_n some_o have_v a_o bond_n to_o pay_v that_o will_v be_v forfeit_v else_o and_o why_o do_v you_o not_o remember_v before_o to_o make_v your_o condition_n with_o such_o a_o exception_n unless_o it_o be_v on_o the_o sabbath_n and_o then_o to_o defer_v it_o for_o some_o reasonable_a time_n after_o or_o some_o such_o like_a condition_n and_o so_o i_o have_v this_o and_o this_o thing_n that_o must_v be_v do_v and_o why_o do_v not_o you_o think_v of_o this_o before_o to_o prevent_v it_o as_o it_o be_v sure_a you_o may_v if_o you_o do_v serve_v god_n in_o your_o call_n and_o not_o covetousness_n so_o other_o say_v it_o be_v so_o tedious_a and_o irksome_a to_o spend_v that_o day_n holy_a that_o they_o can_v endure_v it_o and_o why_o be_v it_o tedious_a to_o you_o be_v it_o not_o because_o you_o prepare_v not_o your_o soul_n to_o keep_v it_o you_o let_v sin_n keep_v dominion_n in_o your_o hart_n all_o the_o week_n and_o then_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v dull_a and_o dead_a to_o all_o goodness_n on_o the_o seven_o day_n but_o those_o that_o do_v labour_n to_o walk_v uprightlie_o &_o pure_o before_o god_n six_o day_n find_v such_o comfort_n thereby_o as_o no_o outward_a pleasure_n can_v bring_v nor_o any_o thing_n in_o this_o world_n but_o only_o the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n can_v afford_v second_o this_o teach_v we_o to_o lay_v as_o a_o duty_n every_o one_o upon_o his_o own_o conscience_n to_o remember_v this_o day_n &_o in_o all_o our_o affair_n to_o have_v this_o in_o our_o mind_n that_o we_o entangle_v not_o ourselves_o by_o any_o business_n which_o may_v hinder_v we_o from_o keep_v of_o it_o first_o because_o we_o have_v so_o direct_a a_o item_n as_o we_o call_v it_o to_o remember_v this_o day_n second_o because_o whereas_o god_n content_v himself_o in_o all_o the_o other_o commandment_n to_o set_v they_o down_o either_o only_a affirmative_o or_o only_o negativelie_a he_o have_v not_o do_v so_o in_o this_o commandment_n but_o to_o set_v the_o deep_a impression_n in_o our_o heart_n have_v set_v it_o down_o both_o affirmativelie_a and_o negative_o keep_v it_o holy_a say_v he_o and_o as_o though_o that_o be_v not_o enough_o do_v no_o manner_n of_o work_n in_o it_o and_o then_o whereas_o other_o of_o the_o commandment_n for_o the_o most_o part_n have_v no_o reason_n annex_v to_o they_o in_o the_o decalogue_n though_o in_o the_o scripture_n else_o where_o they_o have_v this_o and_o the_o second_o commandment_n have_v diverse_a reason_n add_v unto_o they_o that_o man_n may_v have_v a_o great_a regard_n unto_o it_o therefore_o if_o we_o will_v do_v any_o thing_n for_o god_n sake_n then_o do_v this_o for_o his_o sake_n if_o a_o friend_n shall_v come_v to_o we_o and_o say_v i_o have_v some_o ten_o errand_n which_o i_o will_v have_v you_o do_v for_o i_o and_o i_o will_v recompense_v you_o thorough_o for_o your_o pain_n but_o of_o all_o the_o ten_o there_o be_v one_o among_o the_o rest_n which_o i_o will_v have_v you_o especial_o to_o remember_v and_o of_o all_o love_n see_v that_o you_o forget_v it_o not_o will_v not_o one_o think_v he_o very_o negligent_a and_o unmindful_a of_o his_o friend_n that_o will_v forget_v this_o of_o which_o he_o have_v such_o a_o special_a charge_n especial_o if_o his_o friend_n shall_v in_o most_o of_o the_o other_o give_v but_o the_o bare_a commandment_n and_o thing_n set_v down_o without_o any_o more_o word_n but_o shall_v insist_v upon_o that_o and_o give_v he_o reason_n upon_o reason_n why_o he_o shall_v have_v a_o special_a care_n of_o it_o but_o so_o god_n say_v to_o we_o he_o give_v we_o warn_v before_o show_v that_o we_o be_v ready_a to_o forget_v it_o but_o he_o will_v have_v we_o strive_v against_o this_o forgetfulness_n and_o then_o because_o we_o shall_v not_o forget_v but_o do_v it_o he_o urge_v it_o with_o many_o reason_n now_o then_o to_o forget_v this_o be_v it_o not_o a_o plain_a contempt_n and_o neglect_n it_o follow_v to_o keep_v it_o holy_a now_o the_o lord_n show_v what_o be_v to_o be_v do_v on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n namely_o we_o must_v keep_v it_o holy_a it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o forbear_v our_o own_o work_n and_o so_o to_o keep_v it_o idle_o but_o we_o must_v be_v as_o careful_a to_o do_v god_n work_v and_o so_o to_o keep_v it_o holy_a hence_o than_o we_o learn_v this_o doctrine_n that_o the_o sabbath_n must_v be_v employ_v in_o holy_a exercise_n it_o must_v not_o be_v a_o bare_a rest_n but_o a_o sanctify_a rest_n so_o cease_v from_o worldly_a thing_n as_o that_o we_o be_v take_v up_o in_o heavenly_a thing_n for_o idleness_n be_v a_o sin_n every_o day_n but_o much_o more_o on_o the_o sabbath_n no_o man_n have_v allowance_n in_o god_n word_n to_o spend_v any_o time_n idle_o but_o it_o be_v a_o damnable_a sin_n in_o the_o week_n day_n much_o less_o be_v we_o warrant_v to_o spend_v god_n time_n unprofitablie_o and_o idle_o of_o the_o twain_o it_o be_v better_o leave_v one_o own_o work_n undo_v upon_o one_o own_o day_n permit_v for_o his_o labour_n than_o god_n work_n on_o god_n day_n appoint_v for_o his_o service_n now_o the_o reason_n why_o this_o must_v be_v spend_v only_o in_o holy_a exercise_n be_v take_v from_o the_o ill_a effect_n that_o will_v follow_v if_o we_o do_v not_o spend_v it_o in_o these_o work_n these_o ill_a effect_n we_o shall_v see_v in_o exod._n 31._o 12._o where_o god_n command_v they_o that_o they_o shall_v abstain_v from_o all_o work_n and_o keep_v it_o a_o holy_a for_o if_o they_o do_v work_v even_o in_o make_v garment_n and_o thing_n for_o the_o temple_n which_o seem_v to_o pertain_v to_o god_n much_o more_o in_o thing_n of_o their_o own_o these_o two_o evil_n will_v follow_v first_o they_o shall_v die_v the_o death_n their_o life_n shall_v be_v take_v away_o they_o must_v die_v a_o natural_a death_n and_o then_o second_o they_o must_v be_v cut_v off_o from_o their_o people_n i_o be_v subject_n to_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n and_o be_v cast_v off_o from_o the_o people_n of_o god_n by_o solemn_a excommunication_n these_o be_v the_o punishment_n of_o pollute_v the_o sabbath_n no_o small_a punishment_n and_o these_o god_n do_v execute_v daily_o even_o among_o we_o for_o though_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n take_v not_o hold_v on_o such_o person_n to_o put_v they_o to_o death_n yet_o god_n give_v they_o over_o to_o commit_v some_o sin_n which_o man_n law_n punish_v with_o death_n and_o the_o first_o cause_n of_o all_o and_o that_o at_o which_o god_n strike_v and_o which_o their_o own_o soul_n feel_v most_o heavy_a as_o appear_v by_o the_o daily_a complaint_n when_o they_o be_v bring_v to_o execution_n be_v that_o they_o never_o regard_v the_o sabbath_n have_v no_o care_n to_o hear_v god_n word_n &_o to_o spend_v the_o day_n in_o duty_n of_o religion_n &_o in_o prayer_n but_o follow_v after_o vanity_n and_o their_o own_o lust_n and_o therefore_o god_n meet_v with_o they_o and_o though_o the_o minister_n can_v by_o law_n excommunicate_v they_o and_o cast_v they_o out_o of_o the_o congregation_n yet_o god_n excommunicate_v they_o that_o in_o the_o
let_v he_o have_v it_o and_o not_o intrude_v ourselves_o upon_o his_o inheritance_n since_o god_n have_v lay_v claim_n to_o it_o it_o be_v no_o wisdom_n for_o man_n to_o go_v about_o to_o wrong_v he_o rob_v man_n but_o they_o rob_v god_n for_o they_o do_v convert_v that_o to_o profane_a &_o common_a use_n which_o he_o have_v ordain_v only_o for_o religious_a and_o holy_a use_n now_o if_o man_n rob_v god_n which_o abuse_v the_o temple_n be_v but_o a_o ceremony_n and_o then_o short_o to_o have_v a_o end_n much_o more_o those_o that_o abuse_v his_o sabbath_n which_o be_v moral_a to_o continue_v to_o the_o world_n end_n this_o serve_v then_o to_o confute_v those_o that_o will_v be_v bold_a and_o venturous_a to_o do_v the_o work_n of_o their_o call_n upon_o the_o lord_n day_n and_o then_o if_o they_o be_v reprove_v for_o it_o the_o answer_n be_v why_o what_o need_v you_o make_v such_o a_o stir_n i_o hope_v i_o be_o neither_o whore_n nor_o thief_n yes_o they_o be_v thief_n and_o curse_a thief_n and_o thief_n that_o rob_v god_n for_o the_o sabbath_n day_n be_v he_o in_o as_o much_o right_a and_o property_n as_o any_o of_o our_o good_n be_v we_o many_o will_v be_v ashamed_a dishonourable_a to_o god_n and_o hurtful_a to_o other_o and_o ourselves_o as_o of_o the_o sabbath_n but_o man_n will_v be_v object_v what_o shall_v man_n have_v no_o recreation_n shall_v ourselves_o this_o they_o do_v it_o but_o for_o maintenance_n will_v you_o have_v they_o starve_v no_o nor_o i_o will_v not_o have_v they_o steal_v neither_o but_o since_o they_o must_v have_v meat_n and_o maintenance_n it_o be_v fit_v you_o shall_v allow_v it_o and_o give_v it_o they_o of_o your_o own_o and_o then_o they_o need_v not_o steal_v nay_o sure_o you_o must_v pardon_v i_o i_o can_v spare_v so_o much_o money_n i_o have_v rather_o they_o steal_v it_o than_o i_o give_v it_o what_o man_n will_v not_o think_v this_o man_n excuse_n very_o foolish_a and_o ridiculous_a but_o now_o man_n deal_v as_o mad_o or_o more_o mad_o with_o god_n child_n and_o servant_n must_v have_v recreation_n and_o what_o of_o that_o therefore_o we_o will_v not_o spare_v it_o they_o from_o our_o own_o service_n in_o the_o week_n but_o they_o shall_v take_v god_n day_n for_o their_o delight_n if_o they_o will_v have_v any_o this_o be_v a_o curse_a shift_n for_o if_o we_o hire_v a_o day_n labourer_n and_o part_n the_o breach_n of_o his_o commandment_n and_o cast_v his_o fear_n behind_o our_o back_n in_o trifle_a thing_n or_o in_o matter_n that_o seem_v to_o carry_v more_o sway_n with_o they_o but_o here_o seem_v to_o come_v in_o a_o objection_n may_v one_o do_v no_o business_n may_v not_o one_o look_v to_o their_o cattle_n serve_v their_o sheep_n or_o their_o horse_n and_o order_v they_o on_o the_o sabbath_n yes_o a_o christian_n man_n on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n must_v serve_v his_o beast_n but_o always_o provide_v that_o he_o do_v it_o not_o as_o business_n of_o his_o own_o but_o as_o a_o work_n of_o mercy_n to_o the_o beast_n not_o seek_v or_o respect_v his_o own_o commodity_n as_o the_o creature_n necessity_n and_o do_v it_o thus_o for_o conscience_n sake_n to_o help_v the_o poor_a creature_n it_o be_v a_o work_n of_o the_o sabbath_n and_o in_o it_o place_n please_v god_n for_o god_n himself_o command_v to_o be_v merciful_a even_o to_o the_o beast_n therefore_o one_o must_v see_v that_o he_o do_v it_o with_o a_o merciful_a hart_n in_o compassion_n to_o the_o creature_n so_o that_o the_o end_n must_v differ_v from_o the_o end_n in_o the_o work_a day_n second_o his_o affection_n and_o meditation_n must_v be_v diverse_a from_o that_o he_o may_v have_v at_o other_o time_n for_o this_o work_n must_v raise_v he_o up_o to_o some_o godly_a and_o spiritual_a meditation_n for_o his_o edification_n as_o for_o example_n when_o one_o go_v on_o the_o sabbath_n to_o serve_v and_o order_v the_o dumb_a creature_n he_o may_v make_v this_o use_n of_o it_o why_o i_o can_v in_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o compassion_n to_o the_o creature_n care_v for_o it_o and_o bring_v it_o thing_n necessatie_n though_o it_o can_v call_v upon_o i_o yet_o the_o very_a need_n of_o it_o and_o take_v in_o good_a part_n that_o which_o he_o give_v i_o be_v it_o more_o or_o less_o since_o it_o be_v my_o portion_n from_o god_n especial_o since_o i_o have_v often_o rebel_v against_o god_n as_o the_o poor_a beast_n never_o do_v against_o i_o and_o it_o have_v do_v i_o more_o faithful_a service_n than_o ever_o i_o do_v god_n these_o and_o the_o like_a meditation_n once_o heart_n must_v be_v season_v withal_o one_o the_o sabbath_n day_n more_o than_o necesitie_n be_v impose_v upon_o he_o other_o time_n if_o then_o our_o end_n be_v mercy_n and_o our_o affection_n be_v holy_a in_o do_v they_o will_v be_v better_o in_o hart_n more_o able_a to_o do_v my_o work_n after_o and_o then_o his_o hart_n be_v carry_v after_o the_o gain_n he_o may_v have_v by_o these_o cattle_n and_o his_o meditation_n take_v up_o with_o think_v how_o he_o may_v sell_v they_o for_o most_o gain_n he_o break_v the_o sabbath_n he_o serve_v not_o god_n but_o himself_o and_o though_o man_n can_v indite_v he_o for_o the_o very_a action_n yet_o god_n will_v find_v he_o out_o and_o plague_v he_o for_o the_o ill_a affection_n and_o so_o much_o for_o the_o thing_n that_o must_v be_v do_v on_o the_o sabbath_n and_o those_o that_o must_v not_o be_v do_v and_o two_o reason_n take_v one_o from_o the_o equity_n of_o the_o commandment_n the_o other_o from_o the_o right_n and_o title_n of_o god_n to_o so_o say_v the_o lord_n how_o ever_o you_o bear_v with_o they_o for_o other_o yet_o you_o must_v look_v to_o they_o careful_o for_o that_o day_n and_o not_o let_v they_o break_v the_o sabbath_n then_o he_o name_v the_o man_n and_o maid_n because_o common_o some_o lucre_n be_v get_v by_o their_o labour_n and_o some_o commodity_n seem_v to_o follow_v if_o they_o follow_v their_o worldly_a business_n man_n be_v slack_a to_o cause_v they_o to_o serve_v god_n but_o will_v be_v content_a they_o shall_v serve_v they_o god_n say_v also_o look_v to_o they_o if_o any_o seruamt_v will_v be_v so_o wicked_a as_o they_o may_v do_v without_o any_o great_a preparation_n a_o man_n may_v rise_v out_o of_o his_o bed_n and_o go_v straight_o and_o hold_v the_o plough_n or_o drive_v the_o cart_n as_o well_o as_o if_o he_o have_v a_o hour_n consideration_n but_o unless_o one_o have_v sometime_o to_o disburden_v his_o hart_n of_o worldly_a thought_n and_o to_o fit_v himself_o by_o prayer_n &_o holy_a meditation_n to_o hear_v the_o word_n he_o can_v never_o do_v it_o well_o nor_o so_o as_o the_o word_n will_v be_v profitable_a unto_o he_o therefore_o they_o must_v be_v stir_v up_o that_o they_o may_v have_v time_n to_o make_v ready_a their_o heart_n that_o they_o come_v before_o god_n with_o a_o quiet_a a_o empty_a mind_n now_o in_o this_o duty_n many_o of_o god_n child_n fail_v that_o regard_v any_o time_n of_o preparation_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o exercise_n be_v so_o uncomfortable_a and_o unprofitable_a to_o they_o and_o then_o secondlie_o the_o master_n must_v be_v careful_a to_o have_v his_o family_n come_v with_o he_o in_o good_a &_o due_a season_n to_o the_o house_n of_o god_n with_o the_o whole_a congregation_n not_o as_o many_o do_v that_o be_v so_o negligent_a as_o much_o be_v past_a before_o they_o come_v the_o wife_n come_v at_o the_o second_o lesson_n &_o he_o drop_v in_o at_o the_o end_n of_o prayer_n and_o the_o servant_n follow_v when_o till_o the_o end_n that_o they_o may_v have_v the_o whole_a fruit_n and_o not_o as_o some_o do_v be_v go_v before_o the_o sermon_n end_n or_o at_o least_o run_v away_o before_o the_o prayer_n be_v make_v for_o a_o blessing_n and_o the_o blessing_n pronounce_v by_o the_o minister_n which_o show_v they_o never_o feel_v the_o goodness_n of_o the_o blessing_n they_o be_v so_o loath_a to_o tarry_v supplication_n to_o god_n for_o their_o good_a and_o as_o they_o must_v call_v they_o up_o in_o the_o morning_n so_o a_o other_o duty_n be_v to_o examine_v they_o after_o and_o call_v they_o to_o account_v how_o they_o have_v profit_v as_o if_o man_n servant_n be_v send_v to_o the_o market_n they_o will_v not_o let_v they_o go_v without_o take_v account_n how_o they_o have_v do_v their_o business_n and_o what_o market_n they_o have_v make_v so_o when_o they_o come_v from_o the_o church_n they_o come_v from_o the_o market_n of_o their_o soul_n they_o shall_v question_v with_o they_o to_o see_v what_o good_a bargain_n they_o have_v make_v for_o their_o soul_n what_o profit_n they_o have_v have_v by_o come_v to_o god_n ordinance_n and_o thus_o lay_v their_o store_n together_o to_o every_o day_n but_o much_o more_o vild_a and_o abominable_a upon_o the_o sabbath_n day_n therefore_o such_o servant_n must_v by_o force_n be_v constrain_v not_o to_o violate_v god_n sabbath_n or_o if_o no_o mean_n will_v serve_v a_o christian_n master_n must_v not_o have_v his_o house_n pester_v with_o such_o open_a rebel_n against_o god_n thus_o much_o god_n show_v the_o duty_n of_o word_n wherefore_o the_o lord_n bless_v the_o seven_o day_n and_o hallow_v it_o here_o god_n show_v that_o if_o none_o of_o the_o former_a reason_n will_v prevail_v yet_o we_o shall_v be_v move_v the_o lord_n house_n and_o in_o religion_n and_o in_o other_o worldly_a matter_n so_o far_o as_o may_v stand_v with_o true_a prosperity_n since_o he_o have_v speak_v this_o &_o that_o must_v stand_v which_o go_v out_o of_o his_o mouth_n therefore_o it_o be_v for_o their_o comfort_n that_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n shall_v attend_v upon_o they_o whether_o they_o have_v little_a or_o much_o if_o petition_n pray_v in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n they_o read_v no_o popish_a book_n but_o do_v they_o read_v the_o book_n of_o god_n they_o come_v not_o at_o mass_n but_o do_v they_o reverent_o receive_v the_o lord_n supper_n they_o have_v leave_v off_o popish_a fast_n like_a enough_o for_o we_o be_v fall_v from_o popery_n to_o plain_a impiety_n but_o do_v they_o fast_v a_o christian_n fast_n as_o they_o do_v it_o sinful_o do_v they_o do_v it_o conscionable_o in_o cast_v down_o themselves_o and_o celebrate_v a_o sabbath_n unto_o god_n to_o confess_v their_o sin_n and_o crave_v pardon_n for_o the_o same_o but_o for_o want_v of_o these_o thing_n many_o want_n the_o blessing_n of_o god_n which_o they_o may_v have_v and_o be_v breaker_n of_o this_o commandment_n because_o they_o be_v not_o so_o diligent_a in_o use_v the_o good_a mean_n of_o their_o salvation_n as_o they_o be_v in_o use_v the_o ill_a mean_n of_o their_o destruction_n and_o be_v not_o as_o careful_a to_o plant_v in_o the_o holy_a worship_n of_o god_n as_o to_o pull_v up_o the_o superstitious_a so_o that_o such_o be_v as_o well_o guilty_a of_o the_o breach_n of_o this_o commandment_n as_o idolater_n they_o for_o do_v that_o they_o shall_v not_o we_o for_o not_o do_v that_o we_o shall_v they_o for_o use_v false_a worship_n we_o for_o not_o use_v the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n but_o then_o we_o shall_v be_v true_a worshipper_n of_o god_n when_o we_o shun_v and_o hate_v all_o false_a worship_n and_o put_v in_o practice_v all_o the_o part_n of_o this_o true_a worship_n of_o the_o true_a god_n so_o much_o of_o the_o commandment_n forbid_v all_o kind_n of_o false_a worship_n and_o command_v the_o contrary_a viz._n with_o all_o reverence_n and_o conscience_n to_o perform_v love_n &_o stand_v
