though_o all_o the_o member_n of_o their_o visible_a church_n be_v gross_a and_o notorious_a hypocrite_n and_o mere_a empty_a formalist_n have_v only_o a_o form_n of_o godliness_n without_o the_o power_n of_o it_o they_o be_v sufficient_o qualify_v to_o be_v their_o church-member_n yea_o notorious_o slanderous_a person_n notorious_o liar_n deceiver_n drunkard_n adulterer_n thief_n murderers_z be_v qualify_v member_n of_o their_o church_n for_o all_o these_o and_o the_o worst_a of_o man_n may_v profess_v the_o true_a religion_n it_o be_v strange_a that_o independent_o so_o call_v require_v no_o more_o but_o to_o profess_v the_o true_a religion_n to_o make_v people_n member_n of_o their_o church_n why_o do_v they_o former_o separate_v and_o set_v up_o church_n apart_o not_o only_o from_o the_o popish_a and_o episcopal_a but_o from_o the_o presbyterian_a church_n so_o call_v if_o a_o profession_n of_o the_o true_a religion_n be_v enough_o to_o qualify_v person_n to_o be_v church-member_n of_o their_o church_n do_v not_o those_o profess_v the_o true_a religion_n as_o well_o as_o these_o call_v independent_o yea_o do_v not_o the_o presbyterian_o profess_v the_o same_o religion_n in_o all_o part_n with_o these_o call_v independent_o and_o differ_v nothing_o from_o they_o but_o in_o some_o small_a circumstance_n of_o discipline_n government_n and_o the_o like_a 2._o we_o find_v no_o such_o church_n in_o all_o the_o scripture_n own_v to_o be_v a_o church_n of_o god_n or_o christ_n that_o the_o outward_a form_n or_o profession_n of_o true_a religion_n do_v make_v a_o church_n of_o god_n or_o christ_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a these_o who_o have_v the_o form_n of_o godliness_n but_o have_v not_o the_o power_n of_o it_o and_o deny_v the_o power_n the_o scripture_n bid_v turn_v away_o from_o they_o for_o of_o this_o sort_n be_v they_o which_o creep_v into_o house_n etc._n etc._n see_v 2_o tim._n 3.5_o 6._o and_o consequent_o these_o can_v be_v no_o true_a church_n of_o christ_n and_o as_o for_o the_o distinction_n of_o the_o church_n visible_a and_o invisible_a it_o may_v be_v own_v in_o a_o sense_n but_o not_o in_o that_o sense_n give_v by_o or_o assembly_n of_o true_o holy_a man_n and_o woman_n meet_v together_o at_o certain_a time_n and_o place_n that_o be_v know_v to_o people_n among_o who_o they_o dwell_v and_o call_v together_o upon_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o teach_v and_o instruct_v and_o edify_v one_o another_o every_o one_o use_v his_o spiritual_a gift_n of_o ministration_n whether_o in_o pray_v or_o prophesy_v to_o the_o edification_n of_o the_o whole_a may_v be_v call_v a_o visible_a church_n insomuch_o that_o they_o appear_v in_o external_a or_o outward_a and_o bodily_a work_n and_o action_n that_o be_v visible_a but_o as_o the_o body_n without_o life_n or_o spirit_n be_v dead_a and_o can_v proper_o be_v call_v a_o man_n
so_o a_o church_n or_o assembly_n of_o people_n only_o profess_v the_o true_a religion_n but_o have_v nothing_o of_o the_o true_a life_n and_o spirit_n of_o christ_n and_o who_o outward_a and_o bodily_a service_n and_o work_n have_v no_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a virtue_n and_o life_n in_o they_o which_o be_v that_o salt_n that_o make_v they_o savoury_a and_o do_v recommend_v they_o unto_o god_n so_o that_o he_o savour_v a_o sweet_a savour_n in_o they_o can_v be_v true_o and_o just_o account_v a_o true_a church_n of_o christ_n for_o we_o no_o where_o find_v in_o scripture_n any_o society_n or_o company_n of_o people_n call_v the_o church_n of_o christ_n who_o have_v nothing_o but_o the_o profession_n of_o the_o true_a religion_n and_o although_o hypocrite_n and_o mere_a
