the_o object_n and_o there_o will_v be_v defect_n no_o more_o on_o our_o part_n to_o diminish_v the_o glory_n so_o that_o you_o see_v if_o we_o set_v aside_o all_o the_o sour_a of_o the_o world_n and_o take_v a_o saint_n sweet_a morsel_n he_o have_v below_o yet_o it_o be_v short_a of_o the_o glory_n shall_v be_v reveal_v wherefore_o the_o observation_n stand_v very_o clear_a that_o a_o saint_n worst_a condition_n be_v in_o this_o world_n the_o 2_o observation_n be_v this_o namely_o that_o a_o saint_n have_v relief_n from_o the_o worst_a of_o the_o world_n by_o faith_n wait_v for_o the_o appearance_n of_o christ_n as_o in_o the_o text._n a_o saint_n by_o faith_n look_v upon_o his_o union_n with_o christ_n as_o a_o son_n and_o so_o satisfy_v itself_o with_o the_o appearance_n of_o god_n so_o the_o apostle_n paul_n in_o rom._n 8._o the_o latter_a end_n he_o eye_n there_o his_o union_n with_o christ_n and_o so_o be_v carry_v above_o tribulation_n or_o distress_n or_o the_o of_o christ_n a_o three_o observation_n love_n make_v the_o soul_n quicksighted_n the_o soul_n that_o love_v christ_n see_v by_o faith_n his_o appearance_n though_o afar_o off_o and_o rejoice_v in_o it_o though_o no_o affliction_n but_o be_v grievous_a for_o the_o present_a yet_o by_o faith_n the_o soul_n see_v the_o appearance_n of_o christ_n though_o at_o some_o distance_n and_o in_o the_o joy_n of_o it_o be_v carry_v above_o the_o present_a affliction_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o saint_n can_v overcome_v the_o world_n even_o their_o faith_n say_v the_o text_n that_o eye_n the_o give_v the_o reason_n of_o it_o that_o no_o flesh_n shall_v glory_v in_o his_o presence_n as_o if_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v say_v god_n have_v wrap_v up_o all_o glory_n in_o himself_o so_o that_o no_o flesh_n shall_v glory_v neither_o in_o what_o they_o be_v nor_o in_o what_o they_o do_v but_o in_o he_o so_o in_o the_o 30_o verse_n he_o strip_v all_o flesh_n from_o glory_v in_o itself_o concern_v spiritual_n for_o sayeshe_o christ_n as_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n be_v wisdom_n righteousness_n sanctification_n and_o redemption_n to_o we_o and_o then_o he_o quote_v this_o place_n of_o scripture_n out_o of_o the_o prophet_n jeremy_n he_o that_o glory_n let_v he_o glory_n in_o the_o lord_n so_o that_o the_o apostle_n premise_n and_o the_o conclusion_n he_o draw_v from_o they_o run_v all_o into_o this_o one_o general_a that_o as_o god_n make_v it_o his_o great_a end_n in_o all_o he_o do_v to_o lift_v up_o his_o own_o glory_n so_o shall_v his_o people_n make_v it_o their_o work_n and_o end_n only_o to_o glory_n in_o the_o lord_n this_o scripture_n be_v a_o direct_a exhortation_n it_o exhort_v to_o glory_n and_o direct_v to_o the_o proper_a subject_n &_o centre_n of_o glory_n namely_o the_o lord_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v you_o soul_n that_o glory_n make_v the_o lord_n the_o only_a subject_n of_o your_o glory_n and_o then_o glory_v on_o for_o edification_n sake_n and_o that_o the_o low_a capacity_n may_v gather_v its_o portion_n of_o god_n manna_n in_o the_o wilderness_n of_o this_o world_n i_o shall_v from_o this_o scripture_n draw_v up_o two_o general_a observation_n upon_o which_o shall_v depend_v what_o follow_v the_o observation_n be_v these_o first_o god_n be_v and_o aught_o to_o be_v the_o subject_n of_o all_o his_o people_n glory_n or_o thus_o that_o the_o people_n of_o god_n shall_v glory_v in_o none_o but_o god_n second_o that_o in_o god_n there_o be_v fullness_n of_o glory_n for_o all_o his_o people_n or_o thus_o that_o in_o god_n be_v bind_v up_o the_o fullness_n of_o his_o people_n glory_n for_o proof_n to_o the_o first_o of_o these_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o precept_n and_o practice_n of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n declare_v in_o scripture_n as_o first_o the_o lord_n by_o the_o prophet_n jeremiah_n in_o his_o 9_o chap._n verse_n 23.24_o thus_o say_v the_o lord_n let_v not_o the_o wise_a man_n glory_n in_o his_o wisdom_n neither_o let_v the_o mighty_a man_n glory_n in_o his_o might_n let_v not_o the_o rich_a man_n glory_n in_o his_o riches_n but_o let_v he_o

die_a flesh_n that_o be_v in_o this_o life_n but_o clay_n wall_n and_o prison_n to_o immortal_a soul_n such_o frail_a building_n death_n shall_v certain_o crack_v and_o leave_v in_o the_o grave_n till_o they_o be_v crumble_v to_o dust_n from_o whence_o they_o be_v take_v but_o the_o weight_n of_o death_n lie_v not_o bare_o in_o this_o as_o it_o put_v a_o period_n to_o the_o be_v and_o breathe_v of_o all_o flesh_n but_o in_o the_o sting_n of_o death_n which_o be_v sin_n and_o the_o strength_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o law_n and_o under_o these_o consideration_n the_o apostle_n take_v it_o in_o this_o scripture_n and_o in_o vers_n 55._o put_v a_o holy_a triumph_a question_n o_o death_n where_o be_v thy_o sting_n not_o that_o he_o be_v ignorant_a what_o be_v the_o sting_n of_o death_n for_o in_o the_o very_a next_o verse_n he_o tell_v we_o what_o be_v the_o sting_n of_o death_n and_o the_o strength_n of_o that_o sting_n but_o he_o put_v the_o question_n to_o let_v death_n know_v that_o in_o the_o freegrace_n of_o god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n he_o have_v victory_n over_o he_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v death_n i_o know_v that_o sin_n be_v thy_o sting_n and_o the_o law_n be_v the_o strength_n of_o sin_n but_o this_o i_o know_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o christ_n have_v bear_v my_o sin_n fulfil_v the_o law_n and_o satisfy_v divine_a justice_n for_o my_o soul_n so_o that_o now_o death_n thou_o have_v no_o sting_n in_o thou_o for_o i_o christ_n in_o take_v sin_n from_o i_o have_v take_v thy_o sting_n from_o thou_o so_o that_o now_o thanks_o be_v to_o god_n which_o give_v i_o victory_n through_o my_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n i_o can_v with_o glory_n put_v this_o question_n to_o thou_o o_o death_n where_o be_v thy_o sting_n death_n shall_v certain_o sit_v in_o the_o bosom_n look_v in_o the_o face_n and_o close_o the_o eye_n of_o all_o flesh_n but_o whether_o in_o this_o presence_n death_n appear_v a_o friend_n or_o a_o enemy_n whether_o with_o or_o without_o his_o sting_n this_o be_v the_o great_a main_a thing_n to_o be_v inquire_v after_o to_o be_v resolve_v in_o this_o the_o soul_n must_v look_v up_o to_o christ_n behold_v death_n first_o in_o he_o to_o be_v more_o distinct_a upon_o this_o weighty_a subject_n take_v some_o particular_a head_n and_o observation_n from_o the_o word_n first_o that_o union_n with_o christ_n give_v death_n to_o sin_n give_v satisfaction_n to_o the_o law_n and_o victory_n over_o death_n the_o apostle_n do_v acknowledge_v that_o sin_n be_v the_o sting_n of_o death_n and_o that_o the_o law_n be_v the_o strength_n of_o sin_n but_o notwithstanding_o he_o bless_v god_n for_o victory_n over_o death_n through_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n so_o as_o that_o which_o give_v victory_n over_o death_n must_v be_v the_o death_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o the_o law_n and_o that_o be_v say_v the_o text_n our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n union_n with_o propriety_n and_o interest_n in_o christ_n christ_n by_o die_v for_o his_o elect_a body_n do_v not_o only_o save_v they_o from_o their_o sin_n in_o be_v make_v sin_n for_o they_o 2_o cor._n 5._o last_o and_o redeem_v death_n but_o when_o the_o sting_n of_o sin_n be_v take_v away_o the_o apostle_n can_v glory_v in_o and_o over_o death_n but_o to_o christ_n less_o soul_n death_n come_v in_o its_o full_a power_n it_o be_v appoint_v for_o all_o man_n once_o to_o die_v and_o after_o death_n to_o come_v to_o judgement_n now_o to_o a_o christlesse_a soul_n death_n and_o sin_n appear_v together_o and_o the_o sting_n of_o death_n which_o be_v sin_n will_v go_v along_o with_o the_o soul_n to_o judgement_n this_o make_v death_n to_o be_v dreadful_a to_o such_o poor_a soul_n and_o here_o death_n be_v not_o a_o servant_n to_o lay_v the_o body_n to_o sleep_v but_o a_o jailer_n to_o bring_v soul_n and_o body_n in_o sin_n before_o the_o just_a and_o righteous_a judge_n to_o a_o soul_n out_o of_o christ_n it_o be_v death_n to_o think_v of_o appear_v before_o a_o righteous_a and_o holy_a god_n but_o when_o death_n come_v and_o the_o soul_n must_v certain_o appear_v before_o this_o tribunal_n this_o be_v death_n indeed_o a_o thousand_o death_n in_o one_o to_o such_o a_o soul_n it_o be_v death_n to_o live_v because_o the_o sentence_n will_v be_v go_v you_o curse_v this_o shall_v be_v your_o curse_n you_o shall_v live_v for_o ever_o out_o of_o the_o presence_n and_o glorious_a enjoyment_n of_o the_o everliving_a holy_a &_o glorious_a god_n the_o sting_n of_o death_n be_v sin_n where_o death_n and_o sin_n meet_v in_o one_o soul_n there_o death_n sting_v to_o death_n and_o then_o it_o be_v true_o death_n because_o it_o have_v its_o sting_n and_o there_o sin_n have_v its_o strength_n the_o law_n of_o god_n to_o accuse_v and_o the_o curse_n of_o that_o law_n to_o condemn_v to_o all_o eternity_n thus_o be_v death_n in_o strength_n to_o christlesse_a soul_n soul_n not_o in_o union_n with_o christ_n i_o intend_v not_o in_o this_o meditation_n to_o take_v in_o all_o the_o part_n of_o this_o subject_n for_o than_o i_o shall_v be_v very_o large_a nor_o shall_v i_o in_o this_o place_n take_v into_o consideration_n how_o christ_n have_v deliver_v his_o people_n from_o sin_n and_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n though_o both_o be_v proper_a to_o this_o scripture_n because_o i_o have_v do_v it_o in_o some_o other_o part_n of_o this_o book_n i_o shall_v take_v that_o for_o grant_v and_o confine_v my_o meditation_n to_o that_o which_o i_o judge_v to_o be_v chief_a upon_o the_o apostle_n spirit_n in_o this_o scripture_n which_o be_v namely_o this_o the_o glory_n and_o excellency_n of_o saint_n as_o we_o may_v glory_v in_o and_o triumph_v over_o death_n through_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n first_o a_o saint_n through_o christ_n may_v glory_v over_o death_n in_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o it_o death_n here_o be_v no_o death_n the_o sting_n be_v take_v away_o it_o have_v as_o it_o be_v lose_v its_o nature_n it_o be_v change_v it_o be_v not_o what_o it_o be_v at_o first_o it_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o death_n to_o devour_v and_o destroy_v that_o appear_v by_o the_o sting_n which_o be_v sin_n but_o through_o christ_n death_n be_v bereave_v of_o this_o power_n have_v lose_v its_o sting_n in_o stead_n of_o a_o destroyer_n
