be_v therefore_o unreasonable_a to_o tolerate_v they_o by_o this_o way_n of_o argue_v we_o may_v prove_v the_o reformation_n from_o popery_n yea_o christianity_n itself_o intolerable_a because_o offer_v for_o he_o know_v the_o toleration_n there_o grant_v be_v nothing_o like_o what_o be_v here_o desire_v see_v there_o be_v comprehend_v all_o sort_n jew_n papist_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o all_o multiply_v where_o they_o be_v equal_o tolerate_v but_o here_o only_o three_o be_v pretend_v but_o again_o his_o inference_n with_o its_o reason_n be_v neither_o fair_o not_o prudent_o produce_v his_o inference_n be_v that_o person_n in_o authority_n shall_v deny_v a_o unlimited_a and_o irrestricted_a indulgence_n to_o presbyterian_o and_o independent_o his_o reason_n be_v lest_o the_o general_a and_o legal_a allowance_n grant_v shall_v be_v productive_a of_o many_o sect_n which_o though_o different_a from_o each_o other_o shall_v disire_v to_o be_v call_v by_o their_o name_n to_o take_v away_o their_o reproach_n and_o that_o they_o may_v enjoy_v the_o benefit_n of_o the_o public_a toleration_n a._n this_o inference_n unjust_o insinuate_v that_o on_o unlimited_a toleration_n be_v desire_v when_o as_o in_o matter_n of_o religion_n we_o be_v satisfy_v to_o be_v limit_v by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n in_o matter_n civil_a by_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n the_o imprudence_n of_o his_o reason_n be_v that_o it_o militat_v as_o much_o against_o a_o legal_a establishment_n as_o a_o legal_a toleration_n and_o more_o for_o experience_n reach_v we_o that_o many_o desire_v the_o ruler_n favour_n and_o to_o be_v call_v by_o the_o name_n of_o the_o establish_v church_n and_o shroud_v themselves_o under_o her_o cover_n both_o to_o take_v away_o their_o reproach_n and_o also_o to_o share_v of_o the_o honour_n rise_v and_o plentiful_a provision_n allow_v the_o son_n of_o the_o church_n the_o d._n be_v dissatisfy_v with_o the_o v'_v weakness_n or_o unwillingness_n to_o apprehend_v the_o mischievous_a consequence_n of_o this_o legal_a toleration_n notwithstanding_o all_o he_o have_v say_v complain_v of_o he_o that_o he_o have_v propound_v several_a question_n to_o little_a purpose_n among_o which_o he_o instance_v one_o viz._n whether_o the_o popish_a interest_n will_v be_v ever_o the_o strong_a because_o there_o be_v more_o protestant_n to_o oppose_v it_o and_o because_o their_o mutual_a forbearance_n will_v more_o unite_v their_o endeavour_n against_o the_o common_a enemy_n so_o this_o the_o d._n answer_v one_a that_o though_o the_o popish_a interest_n will_v be_v sensible_o weak_a and_o by_o the_o increase_n of_o prote●ants_n of_o the_o same_o communion_n yet_o it_o will_v be_v considerable_o strengthen_v by_o the_o multiplicity_n of_o sect_n which_o legal_a indulgence_n general_o promote_v 2d_o that_o dissenter_n on_o the_o grant_n of_o legal_a indulgence_n will_v grow_v far_o more_o insolent_a and_o tumultucus_n than_o they_o be_v before_o as_o have_v be_v observe_v in_o a_o neighbour_n kingdom_n a._n to_o his_o first_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o the_o increase_n of_o protestant_n though_o not_o of_o the_o same_o communion_n do_v not_o considerable_o strengthen_v but_o weaken_v the_o popish_a interest_n for_o have_v not_o the_o increase_n of_o protestant_n in_o germany_n france_n britain_n and_o ireland_n since_o 1691_o particular_o in_o the_o north_n though_o of_o different_a communion_n considerable_o weak_v the_o popish_a interest_n much_o more_o will_v the_o great_a increase_n of_o the_o number_n of_o protestant_n here_o in_o ireland_n weaken_v they_o in_o their_o civil_a and_o consequent_o in_o the_o defence_n and_o maintenance_n of_o their_o religious_a interest_n be_v they_o encourage_v by_o a_o legal_a indulgence_n and_o it_o be_v too_o well_o know_v to_o be_v with_o modesty_n deny_v that_o the_o popish_a interest_n here_o have_v be_v and_o yet_o be_v weaken_v by_o other_o hand_n than_o those_o of_o the_o establish_v church_n only_o for_o he_o and_o all_o may_v know_v how_o formidable_a ulster_n appear_v to_o tyrconnel_n and_o his_o party_n in_o winter_n 1688_o and_o how_o undaunted_o it_o resist_v and_o foil_v king_n james_n army_n and_o reinforce_v duke_n sconberg_n and_o he_o and_o every_o man_n of_o sense_n know_v the_o far_o great_a number_n there_o be_v dissenter_n for_o the_o truth_n whereof_o we_o vouch_v bp._n king_n for_o 30000_o in_o his_o diocese_n and_o leave_v he_o in_o his_o next_o to_o publish_v their_o number_n in_o his_o own_o and_o neighbour_a diocese_n but_o bless_v be_v god_n we_o be_v not_o divide_v in_o defend_v the_o british_a and_o protestant_a interest_n against_o a_o popish_a irish_a interest_n and_o i_o hope_v as_o the_o many_o party_n of_o different_a religion_n and_o interest_n now_o confederate_a against_o france_n do_v considerable_o weaken_v that_o king_n while_o they_o unite_v all_o in_o one_o to_o make_v he_o just_a and_o peaceable_a so_o will_v we_o the_o protestant_n of_o ireland_n against_o our_o common_a enemy_n for_o the_o union_n of_o many_o party_n syncretize_v against_o a_o common_a foe_n be_v not_o that_o which_o strengthen_v the_o adversary_n but_o when_o these_o several_a party_n divide_v in_o heart_n and_o hand_n by_o mutual_a conflict_n that_o impede_v their_o join_n for_o the_o common_a good_a which_o be_v the_o native_a fruit_n of_o one_o prevail_a party_n persecute_v the_o rest_n and_o this_o the_o papist_n labour_v to_o effectuate_v who_o drudgery_n he_o and_o his_o
