concern_v in_o the_o business_n of_o it_o and_o therefore_o if_o he_o do_v come_v to_o it_o must_v be_v look_v upon_o as_o a_o intruder_n and_o one_o that_o purposely_o design_v to_o provoke_v and_o affront_v god_n unto_o the_o wicked_a god_n say_v what_o have_v thou_o to_o do_v to_o declare_v my_o statute_n or_o that_o thou_o shall_v take_v my_o covenant_n in_o thy_o mouth_n see_v thou_o hate_v to_o be_v reform_v and_o cast_v my_o word_n behind_o thou_o second_o as_o to_o faith_n without_o this_o the_o scripture_n tell_v we_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v god_n for_o he_o that_o at_o all_o than_o not_o to_o worship_v he_o in_o earnest_n never_o to_o pretend_v by_o any_o outward_a sign_n to_o believe_v in_o he_o than_o not_o to_o believe_v as_o we_o pretend_v and_o indeed_o can_v any_o thing_n possible_o be_v more_o absurd_a and_o ridiculous_a as_o well_o as_o blasphemous_a and_o provoke_a than_o for_o those_o to_o pretend_v to_o commemorate_v christ_n die_v for_o we_o who_o do_v not_o believe_v one_o tittle_n of_o it_o for_o those_o to_o acknowledge_v he_o the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n the_o lord_n and_o judge_n of_o it_o who_o say_v in_o their_o heart_n it_o be_v no_o such_o thing_n this_o be_v certain_o either_o to_o question_v god_n omniscience_n or_o his_o regard_n to_o sincerity_n or_o else_o to_o defy_v his_o power_n and_o therefore_o sure_o we_o can_v think_v this_o a_o acceptable_a service_n to_o he_o beside_o be_v not_o all_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o we_o hope_v to_o have_v confirm_v to_o we_o in_o the_o lord_n supper_n promise_v to_o believer_n only_o or_o can_v we_o think_v that_o the_o inestimable_a benefit_n of_o christ_n death_n be_v to_o be_v have_v at_o so_o cheap_a a_o rate_n that_o there_o be_v no_o need_n either_o of_o believe_v any_o thing_n of_o they_o or_o so_o much_o as_o be_v thankful_a for_o they_o no_o certain_o the_o gospel_n be_v the_o power_n of_o god_n unto_o salvation_n unto_o every_o one_o that_o believe_v and_o to_o none_o else_o to_o he_o that_o believe_v with_o a_o lively_a faith_n not_o a_o faith_n without_o work_n which_o st._n james_n tell_v we_o be_v dead_a and_o abound_v therein_o with_o thanksgiving_n to_o what_o purpose_n then_o but_o to_o aggravate_v his_o condemnation_n shall_v that_o man_n dare_v to_o come_v to_o the_o lord_n supper_n in_o expectation_n of_o to_o commemorate_v the_o great_a love_n and_o kindness_n of_o our_o bless_a lord_n in_o die_v for_o we_o who_o be_v not_o so_o far_o affect_v with_o it_o as_o to_o endeavour_v all_o he_o can_v to_o transcribe_v and_o imitate_v it_o how_o great_a thing_n soever_o we_o may_v say_v in_o commendation_n of_o it_o how_o much_o soever_o we_o may_v in_o word_n extol_v it_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v accept_v of_o god_n it_o we_o in_o our_o action_n blaspheme_v it_o and_o it_o be_v in_o truth_n no_o less_o than_o to_o call_v our_o saviour_n fool_n in_o die_v for_o we_o when_o we_o be_v his_o enemy_n to_o think_v that_o we_o be_v not_o oblige_v to_o love_v forgive_v and_o help_v one_o another_o either_o his_o love_n to_o we_o have_v no_o good_a ground_n and_o reason_n for_o it_o or_o if_o it_o have_v and_o we_o think_v so_o we_o ought_v to_o show_v that_o we_o do_v so_o by_o let_v the_o same_o ground_n and_o reason_n influence_n our_o love_n second_o without_o charity_n one_o of_o the_o great_a end_n of_o our_o meeting_n at_o the_o lord_n supper_n will_v be_v defeat_v which_o be_v to_o propagate_v love_n and_o charity_n among_o christian_n three_o without_o this_o the_o scripture_n assure_v we_o all_o our_o service_n all_o our_o gift_n and_o grace_n will_v stand_v for_o nothing_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n though_o we_o speak_v with_o the_o tongue_n of_o man_n and_o of_o angel_n and_o have_v not_o charity_n we_o be_v become_v as_o sound_a brass_n or_o a_o tinkle_a cymbal_n and_o though_o we_o have_v the_o gift_n of_o prophecy_n and_o understand_v all_o mystery_n and_o all_o knowledge_n and_o though_o we_o have_v all_o faith_n so_o that_o we_o can_v remove_v mountain_n and_o have_v not_o charity_n we_o be_v nothing_o four_o without_o this_o we_o be_v uncapable_a of_o receive_v any_o benefit_n from_o the_o lord_n supper_n for_o remission_n of_o sin_n which_o must_v first_o be_v obtain_v before_o we_o can_v hope_v for_o any_o other_o mercy_n from_o god_n be_v promise_v only_o to_o the_o charitable_a if_o you_o forgive_v man_n their_o trespass_n your_o heavenly_a father_n will_v also_o forgive_v you_o but_o if_o you_o forgive_v not_o man_n their_o trespass_n neither_o will_v your_o father_n forgive_v your_o trespass_n last_o our_o bless_a lord_n have_v command_v we_o not_o to_o dare_v to_o bring_v any_o ill_a will_n or_o enmity_n along_o with_o we_o when_o we_o come_v to_o his_o supper_n nay_o far_o if_o we_o be_v come_v to_o it_o and_o find_v that_o we_o have_v unaware_o bring_v any_o to_o go_v away_o and_o lay_v they_o aside_o before_o we_o presume_v to_o partake_v of_o it_o if_o thou_o bring_v thy_o gift_n to_o the_o altar_n and_o there_o remember_v that_o thy_o brother_n have_v aught_o against_o thou_o leave_v there_o thy_o gift_n before_o the_o altar_n and_o go_v thy_o way_n first_o be_v reconcile_v to_o thy_o brother_n and_o then_o come_v and_o offer_v thy_o gift_n thus_o much_o be_v i_o think_v the_o sacrament_n to_o recollect_v and_o examine_v himself_o to_o try_v whether_o he_o be_v true_o sorrowful_a for_o this_o his_o fault_n and_o do_v sincere_o detest_v and_o repent_v of_o it_o and_o if_o so_o he_o ought_v certain_o for_o that_o time_n to_o stay_v away_o and_o make_v his_o peace_n with_o god_n and_o to_o make_v himself_o sure_a that_o he_o have_v a_o right_a to_o the_o benefit_n of_o christ_n death_n and_o passion_n before_o he_o presume_v to_o come_v to_o the_o communion_n of_o they_o last_o whatever_o will_v excuse_v a_o man_n from_o come_v to_o church_n as_o work_n of_o necessity_n or_o charity_n be_v sick_a and_o in_o distress_n ourselves_o or_o attend_v upon_o such_o as_o be_v so_o and_o need_v our_o help_n etc._n etc._n will_n by_o parity_n of_o reason_n excuse_v we_o from_o come_v to_o the_o lord_n supper_n but_o he_o who_o come_v to_o church_n and_o yet_o at_o the_o same_o time_n neglect_v the_o lord_n supper_n to_o which_o he_o be_v there_o invite_v without_o either_o of_o the_o two_o forementioned_a reason_n be_v inexcusable_a and_o upon_o this_o account_n i_o suppose_v it_o be_v that_o the_o canon_n apostolical_a and_o the_o synod_n of_o antioch_n threaten_v every_o one_o of_o the_o faithful_a with_o excommunication_n who_o come_v to_o church_n to_o hear_v the_o holy_a scripture_n but_o stay_v not_o to_o participate_v of_o the_o holy_a supper_n but_o it_o may_v be_v far_o urge_v do_v not_o the_o law_n of_o our_o land_n itself_o which_o oblige_v we_o to_o communicate_v three_o time_n a_o year_n only_o suppose_v this_o to_o be_v sufficient_a i_o answer_v first_o that_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n plain_o suppose_v it_o very_o good_a and_o commendable_a to_o do_v it_o often_o because_o it_o say_v we_o shall_v receive_v it_o three_o time_n at_o the_o least_o second_o if_o what_o have_v be_v say_v above_o concern_v the_o reason_n of_o our_o omit_v no_o opportunity_n of_o communicate_v be_v true_a this_o be_v enough_o to_o oblige_v we_o without_o any_o far_a consideration_n chap._n iu_o objection_n against_o communicate_v answer_v hope_v that_o some_o man_n at_o least_o be_v sincere_a in_o their_o excuse_n which_o they_o make_v for_o not_o come_v to_o the_o lord_n supper_n how_o light_n and_o trifle_a soever_o the_o excuse_n themselves_o may_v be_v i_o shall_v not_o grudge_v my_o time_n and_o pain_n in_o consider_v they_o distinct_o and_o give_v answer_n to_o they_o and_o first_o the_o most_o common_a excuse_n which_o man_n make_v in_o this_o case_n be_v that_o they_o be_v unworthy_a and_o therefore_o dare_v not_o communicate_v always_o bear_v in_o mind_n those_o terrible_a word_n of_o st._n paul_n 1_o corinth_n 11.29_o he_o that_o eat_v and_o drink_v unworthy_o eat_v and_o drink_v damnation_n to_o himâ—…_n now_o in_o answer_n to_o this_o i_o desire_v man_n to_o consiâ—…_n thâ—…_n three_o thing_n first_o what_o it_o be_v they_o mean_v when_o they_o say_v they_o be_v unworthy_a for_o if_o they_o mean_v any_o thing_n to_o the_o purpose_n they_o must_v mean_v either_o that_o they_o be_v not_o sorry_a for_o their_o sin_n and_o full_o resolve_v to_o forsake_v they_o or_o that_o they_o do_v not_o steadfast_o believe_v all_o the_o article_n of_o the_o christian_a faith_n or_o last_o that_o they_o be_v not_o in_o charity_n with_o the_o world_n ready_a to_o forgive_v and_o do_v good_a to_o all_o mankind_n for_o these_o be_v the_o only_a thing_n which_o can_v render_v a_o man_n unworthy_a to_o receive_v the_o lord_n supper_n and_o yet_o i_o very_o believe_v that_o the_o far_o great_a number_n of_o those_o who_o call_v themselves_o unworthy_a will_v think_v themselves_o very_o much_o injure_v if_o any_o of_o these_o thing_n shall_v be_v say_v of_o they_o well_o then_o such_o man_n give_v themselves_o their_o own_o answer_n they_o be_v not_o real_o unworthy_a and_o therefore_o they_o may_v safe_o come_v but_o say_v they_o we_o be_v encumber_v mighty_o with_o worldly_a business_n we_o do_v not_o find_v in_o ourselves_o a_o zealous_a and_o a_o warm_a faith_n and_o love_n of_o god_n our_o saviour_n and_o religion_n we_o have_v contest_v dispute_n and_o law-suit_n with_o many_o of_o our_o neighbour_n and_o these_o thing_n we_o be_v afraid_a render_v we_o unworthy_a by_o no_o mean_n if_o we_o pursue_v our_o worldly_a business_n honest_o and_o fair_o without_o let_v it_o encroach_v upon_o the_o business_n of_o religion_n by_o swallow_v up_o all_o our_o time_n and_o leave_v none_o or_o very_o little_a for_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n and_o service_n of_o our_o neighbour_n we_o not_o only_o do_v what_o be_v innocent_a but_o commendable_a and_o our_o duty_n if_o we_o be_v root_v and_o ground_v in_o faith_n so_o that_o in_o the_o general_a course_n of_o our_o life_n we_o have_v our_o conversation_n as_o become_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n and_o keep_v all_o his_o commandment_n this_o be_v a_o sufficient_a proof_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o love_n to_o god_n our_o saviour_n and_o religion_n although_o we_o never_o have_v any_o hot_a fit_n and_o sudden_a start_n rapture_n and_o ecstasy_n last_o if_o we_o be_v contend_v with_o our_o neighbour_n for_o nothing_o but_o what_o we_o sincere_o think_v our_o right_n if_o we_o take_v a_o fair_a and_o legal_a way_n of_o right_v ourselves_o and_o prosecute_v our_o suit_n without_o the_o least_o malice_n or_o ill_a will_n to_o our_o neighbour_n person_n there_o be_v no_o harm_n in_o all_o this_o none_o of_o these_o thing_n be_v any_o bar_n to_o our_o communicate_v but_o second_o if_o you_o be_v real_o unworthy_a who_o fault_n be_v it_o that_o you_o be_v so_o may_v you_o not_o have_v or_o at_o least_o may_v you_o not_o have_v have_v for_o ask_v such_o a_o measure_n of_o divine_a grace_n as_o will_v sufficient_o enable_v you_o to_o attain_v all_o those_o qualification_n which_o be_v necessary_a to_o render_v a_o man_n a_o worthy_a communicant_a and_o why_o then_o do_v you_o not_o or_o why_o now_o do_v you_o not_o accept_v and_o make_v use_n of_o it_o do_v you_o think_v to_o make_v your_o own_o fault_n your_o excuse_n or_o will_v you_o plead_v in_o your_o behalf_n that_o you_o be_v not_o worthy_a because_o you_o will_v not_o be_v so_o no_o certain_o all_o that_o you_o can_v do_v in_o this_o case_n be_v to_o make_v what_o haste_n you_o can_v possible_o by_o immediate_o embrace_v and_o comply_v with_o the_o offer_v of_o god_n grace_n to_o become_v worthy_a that_o so_o there_o may_v lie_v no_o fault_n at_o your_o door_n either_o on_o one_o side_n or_o the_o other_o but_o that_o you_o may_v both_o communicate_v and_o communicate_v worthy_o last_o as_o to_o those_o terrible_a word_n of_o st_n paul_n he_o that_o eat_v and_o drink_v unworthy_o eat_v and_o drink_v damnation_n to_o himself_o i_o may_v observe_v that_o the_o word_n which_o we_o here_o render_v damnation_n signify_v no_o more_o than_o judgement_n and_o probable_o be_v design_v in_o this_o place_n only_o to_o denote_v temporal_a judgement_n but_o i_o shall_v not_o insist_v upon_o this_o for_o whatever_o the_o meaning_n of_o these_o word_n may_v be_v it_o be_v certain_a that_o the_o unworthy_a receive_v the_o lord_n supper_n till_o repent_v of_o be_v a_o damnable_a sin_n as_o be_v a_o downright_a impudent_a mock_v of_o god_n and_o christ_n by_o pretend_v ourselves_o their_o servant_n and_o solemn_o vow_v all_o holy_a obedience_n to_o they_o when_o yet_o in_o our_o heart_n we_o at_o the_o same_o time_n mean_v no_o such_o thing_n but_o what_o then_o shall_v we_o therefore_o stay_v away_o from_o the_o communion_n and_o by_o so_o do_v wilful_o break_v a_o plain_a commandment_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o thereby_o become_v guilty_a of_o a_o damnable_a sin_n this_o be_v to_o take_v a_o certain_a
