glorious_a work_n by_o the_o first_o old_a england_n ministry_n in_o the_o first_o new_a england_n church_n which_o flourish_v exceed_o thereby_o and_o god_n have_v gracious_o uphold_v it_o by_o the_o succeed_a ministry_n though_o not_o with_o like_a fullness_n of_o save_a success_n nor_o without_o a_o very_a faden_v humble_v diminition_n of_o save_v grace_n and_o blessing_n and_o a_o gradual_a failure_n of_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n the_o work_n be_v therefore_o attend_v with_o more_o &_o more_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n o_o how_o much_o the_o more_o be_v the_o poor_a servant_n of_o christ_n concern_v to_o reinforce_v and_o strengthen_v their_o dependence_n upon_o he_o by_o faith_n in_o his_o promise_n in_o all_o the_o promise_n of_o his_o spirit_n for_o more_o immediate_a and_o extraordinary_a assistance_n consider_v they_o be_v call_v to_o labour_n for_o he_o in_o the_o decay_a state_n of_o religion_n the_o decline_a state_n of_o church_n and_o christian_n with_o a_o backslide_a people_n with_o a_o hard-hearted_a unbelieving_a disobedient_a generation_n of_o sinner_n heighten_v and_o strengthen_v themselves_o in_o their_o way_n of_o sin_v multiply_a and_o aggravate_v all_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n unto_o a_o high_a and_o high_a degree_n both_o of_o transgression_n and_o provocation_n and_o much_o in_o danger_n of_o fall_v under_o that_o most_o dreadful_a execution_n of_o divine_a vindictive_a justice_n upon_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n by_o spiritual_a plague_n and_o judgement_n and_o in_o all_o this_o to_o stand_v before_o and_o minister_v unto_o a_o angry_a and_o depart_a god_n proceed_v in_o a_o way_n of_o judgement_n and_o before_o our_o lord_n christ_n who_o be_v so_o far_o provoke_v as_o to_o threaten_v to_o come_v who_o have_v receive_v this_o ministry_n to_o implore_v divine_a mercy_n that_o they_o may_v not_o faint_a but_o may_v obtain_v faith_n to_o persevere_v with_o courage_n and_o confidence_n under_o the_o work_n of_o his_o power_n which_o may_v work_v in_o they_o more_o immediate_o and_o mighty_o by_o the_o spirit_n to_o furnish_v they_o more_o abundant_o with_o the_o spirit_n and_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n ministry_n that_o they_o may_v speak_v as_o the_o oracle_n of_o god_n all_o that_o which_o god_n will_v have_v speak_v unto_o his_o people_n at_o such_o a_o time_n and_o in_o such_o a_o case_n which_o may_v be_v most_o suitatable_a seasonable_a powerful_a and_o effectual_a to_o awaken_v convince_v admonish_v warn_v instruct_v exhort_v humble_a to_o deliver_v all_o the_o message_n which_o god_n do_v send_v even_o the_o whole_a burden_n of_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o hear_v and_o receive_v the_o word_n from_o his_o mouth_n and_o so_o to_o warn_v the_o people_n from_o he_o that_o they_o may_v deliver_v their_o own_o soul_n o_o never_o never_o have_v there_o be_v so_o great_a a_o incumbency_n upon_o any_o new_a england_n ministry_n as_o upon_o this_o ministry_n which_o god_n have_v now_o raise_v up_o and_o through_o his_o grace_n hopeful_o qualify_v to_o labour_v with_o the_o present_a rise_n and_o stand_v generation_n in_o these_o church_n forasmuch_o as_o our_o weal_n or_o woe_n in_o the_o issue_n of_o god_n controversy_n with_o we_o either_o in_o mercy_n or_o in_o judgement_n either_o in_o salvation_n or_o destruction_n will_v have_v great_a dependence_n upon_o the_o successfulness_n or_o unsuccessfulness_n of_o this_o ministry_n if_o god_n make_v this_o ministry_n save_o successful_a in_o a_o general_a conversion_n we_o be_v save_v if_o god_n suffer_v it_o to_o be_v judicial_a we_o may_v tremble_v with_o fear_n at_o the_o thought_n of_o the_o issue_n inasmuch_o as_o this_o ministry_n seem_v to_o be_v set_v for_o the_o last_o trial_n or_o probation_n at_o least_o of_o that_o generation_n with_o who_o god_n have_v be_v and_o be_v in_o a_o way_n of_o judgement_n o_o then_o let_v we_o be_v move_v to_o believe_v and_o pray_v event_n either_o in_o salvation_n or_o otherwise_o i_o say_v let_v we_o believe_v and_o pray_v for_o they_o that_o they_o may_v lay_v out_o themselves_o their_o very_a heart_n and_o soul_n in_o of_o his_o people_n but_o he_o have_v engage_v himself_o only_o according_o to_o the_o ordinate_a &_o ordinary_a work_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o mercy_n to_o a_o repent_v believe_a obedient_a reform_v people_n god_n be_v not_o wont_a to_o save_o a_o hard_a heart_a impenitent_a unbelieving_a disobedient_a people_n continune_v in_o their_o sin_n slight_v neglect_v abuse_v &_o reject_v ordinary_a mercy_n offer_v to_o they_o i_o say_v god_n be_v not_o wont_a to_o save_o such_o a_o people_n by_o sovereign_a grace_n he_o do_v seldom_o if_o ever_o supersede_n this_o course_n &_o process_n of_o he_o with_o such_o a_o people_n by_o sovereign_a mercy_n he_o do_v rare_o save_o such_o a_o generation_n who_o have_v first_o provoke_v he_o to_o enter_v into_o judgement_n by_o sovereign_a mercy_n it_o be_v therefore_o dangerous_a to_o presume_v upon_o sovereign_a grace_n 2._o we_o must_v remember_v also_o that_o the_o promise_n of_o sovereign_a mercy_n be_v make_v only_o to_o mourner_n to_o a_o people_n bring_v down_o to_o such_o a_o depth_n &_o degree_n of_o mourning_n &_o humiliation_n that_o their_o spirit_n their_o heart_n their_o soul_n be_v ready_a to_o faint_v &_o fail_v within_o they_o so_o express_o in_o the_o text_n of_o that_o promise_n isa_n 57.16.18_o with_o he_o also_o who_o be_v of_o a_o humble_a &_o contrite_a spirit_n to_o revive_v etc._n etc._n for_o i_o will_v not_o contend_v for_o ever_o for_o the_o spirit_n shall_v fail_v before_o and_o the_o soul_n which_o i_o have_v make_v i_o have_v see_v his_o way_n &_o i_o will_v heal_v he_o i_o will_v restore_v comfort_n to_o he_o and_o to_o his_o mourner_n etc._n etc._n true_o we_o must_v expect_v that_o god_n will_v make_v new-england_n mourn_v until_o our_o spirit_n our_o heart_n be_v ready_a to_o faint_v within_o we_o before_o he_o will_v save_o we_o by_o sovereign_a grace_n with_o these_o caution_n all_o the_o sincere_a people_n of_o god_n in_o the_o land_n may_v &_o aught_o to_o set_v themselves_o to_o believe_v &_o pray_v with_o confidence_n &_o comfort_n for_o the_o accomplishment_n of_o this_o glorious_a promise_n of_o salvation_n and_o have_v not_o good_a but_o great_a encouragement_n so_o to_o do_v for_o as_o much_o as_o 1._o though_o our_o condition_n respect_v our_o sin_n and_o god_n wrath_n &_o judgement_n for_o they_o be_v very_o dangerous_a yet_o it_o be_v not_o desperate_a there_o be_v always_o hope_v for_o the_o people_n of_o god_n when_o there_o be_v not_o any_o no_o not_o the_o least_o or_o most_o remote_a appearance_n of_o hope_n from_o man_n or_o mean_n either_o ordinary_a or_o extraordinary_a yea_o though_o there_o may_v be_v all_o the_o most_o prodigious_a sign_n &_o formidable_a appearance_n and_o inevitable_a approach_n of_o destruction_n both_o by_o sin_n and_o judgement_n yet_o still_o there_o be_v hope_n in_o god_n and_o he_o will_v have_v his_o people_n to_o understand_v it_o isa_n 4.27_o why_o say_v thou_o o_o jacob_n and_o speak_v o_o israel_n my_o way_n be_v hide_v from_o the_o lord_n and_o my_o judgement_n pass_v over_o from_o my_o god_n have_v thou_o not_o know_v have_v thou_o not_o hear_v that_o god_n the_o everlasting_a god_n
