faith_n so_o that_o a_o general_a definition_n of_o faith_n be_v this_o it_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o firm_a assent_n give_v to_o the_o thing_n contain_v in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n for_o the_o authority_n of_o god_n that_o speak_v they_o this_o be_v proper_o faith_n or_o believe_v if_o we_o take_v the_o word_n in_o the_o general_a faith_n but_o if_o we_o speak_v of_o justify_v faith_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o that_o be_v not_o common_o express_v in_o the_o word_n believe_v only_o but_o believe_v in_o christ_n which_o be_v another_o thing_n and_o therefore_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o it_o differ_v in_o two_o thing_n from_o this_o common_a and_o general_a faith_n faith_n first_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o object_n and_o indeed_o that_o be_v the_o main_a difference_n for_o whereas_o the_o other_o faith_n look_v upon_o the_o whole_a book_n of_o god_n object_n and_o believe_v all_o that_o god_n have_v reveal_v because_o god_n have_v reveal_v it_o this_o justify_v faith_n pitch_v upon_o christ_n and_o take_v he_o with_o his_o benefit_n and_o privilege_n so_o that_o the_o difference_n lie_v not_o in_o the_o habit_n of_o faith_n but_o in_o the_o object_n for_o with_o christ_n be_v upon_o the_o earth_n they_o have_v a_o degree_n of_o faith_n but_o when_o christ_n ascend_v then_o there_o be_v more_o revelation_n than_o they_o grow_v from_o faith_n to_o faith_n because_o they_o grow_v from_o revelation_n to_o revelation_n than_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v send_v into_o their_o heart_n to_o reveal_v all_o thing_n and_o to_o lead_v they_o into_o all_o truth_n you_o know_v they_o have_v abundance_n of_o revelation_n afterward_o so_o in_o this_o regard_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o extent_n faith_n receive_v degree_n not_o because_o the_o habit_n be_v increase_v but_o because_o the_o revelation_n and_o object_n be_v more_o and_o therefore_o that_o be_v the_o comfort_n of_o poor_a christian_n those_o that_o be_v yet_o ignorant_a they_o may_v have_v firm_a assent_n by_o that_o mean_v we_o shall_v draw_v near_o to_o christ_n and_o receive_v he_o in_o a_o great_a measure_n mark_v this_o very_a act_n of_o take_v christ_n that_o immediate_o justify_v but_o it_o be_v feed_v with_o assurance_n in_o the_o understanding_n it_o be_v that_o which_o do_v increase_v and_o strengthen_v and_o supply_v this_o action_n of_o the_o will_n in_o take_v christ_n so_o that_o the_o more_o strong_a assent_n the_o mind_n and_o understanding_n of_o a_o man_n give_v to_o those_o truth_n which_o concern_v justification_n deliver_v in_o the_o scripture_n the_o it_o evident_a that_o justify_v faith_n be_v not_o only_o a_o act_n of_o the_o mind_n but_o a_o act_n of_o the_o will_v also_o because_o otherwise_o the_o seek_v praise_n with_o man_n can_v be_v no_o impediment_n to_o the_o act_n of_o believe_v now_o this_o also_o god_n aswell_o as_o the_o former_a must_v be_v wrought_v by_o god_n and_o god_n put_v a_o new_a light_n into_o the_o understanding_n our_o will_n another_o way_n which_o be_v the_o draw_v the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o than_o we_o be_v willing_a to_o take_v christ._n if_o you_o take_v other_o metal_n than_o iron_n the_o loadstone_n will_v not_o stir_v it_o but_o turn_v the_o metal_n into_o iron_n and_o it_o will_v follow_v the_o loadstone_n so_o let_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n continue_v in_o that_o condition_n wherein_o they_o life_n and_o death_n that_o be_v whatsoever_o belong_v to_o this_o life_n or_o another_o all_o be_v for_o his_o service_n &_o not_o that_o only_a but_o when_o death_n come_v that_o a_o man_n think_v be_v the_o great_a enemy_n that_o there_o be_v no_o good_a in_o death_n yet_o that_o do_v he_o good_a it_o heal_v our_o sin_n it_o be_v a_o mean_n of_o happiness_n in_o a_o word_n when_o the_o apostle_n can_v say_v no_o more_o thing_n present_a or_o thing_n to_o come_v for_o a_o man_n shall_v look_v to_o both_o as_o heaven_n will_v not_o content_v he_o without_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n so_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n will_v not_o content_v he_o without_o heaven_n but_o when_o there_o be_v both_o the_o mind_n be_v satisfy_v now_o when_o a_o man_n consider_v what_o wealth_n he_o have_v by_o christ_n and_o again_o that_o he_o shall_v have_v all_o his_o honour_n now_o look_v what_o honour_n christ_n have_v the_o same_o he_o have_v by_o match_v with_o he_o have_v he_o we_o have_v all_o thing_n if_o a_o man_n can_v enter_v into_o a_o serious_a consideration_n of_o this_o to_o think_v that_o he_o be_v a_o king_n that_o he_o be_v a_o heir_n of_o all_o thing_n that_o all_o the_o promise_n do_v belong_v to_o he_o do_v but_o think_v with_o yourselves_o if_o any_o of_o you_o shall_v be_v raise_v from_o a_o mean_a ordinary_a condition_n to_o be_v make_v a_o earthly_a prince_n how_o will_v you_o be_v affect_v with_o it_o will_v it_o not_o put_v other_o thought_n into_o you_o why_o shall_v you_o not_o believe_v spiritual_a privilege_n to_o be_v as_o real_a why_o shall_v you_o not_o rejoice_v more_o in_o they_o they_o be_v more_o durable_a they_o be_v more_o excellent_a they_o have_v all_o in_o they_o the_o other_o have_v indeed_o they_o be_v thing_n that_o be_v not_o see_v with_o the_o eye_n they_o be_v spiritual_a they_o be_v thing_n that_o be_v enjoy_v and_o reserve_v for_o afterward_o but_o yet_o there_o be_v much_o for_o the_o present_a learn_v to_o consider_v this_o and_o it_o will_v draw_v and_o move_v you_o but_o because_o these_o thing_n be_v look_v on_o with_o a_o general_a eye_n as_o matter_n of_o fancy_n and_o speculation_n they_o be_v look_v on_o as_o thing_n that_o be_v rather_o talk_v of_o we_o see_v no_o such_o thing_n we_o have_v no_o feel_n of_o they_o therefore_o we_o do_v not_o affect_v they_o but_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o believe_v this_o the_o scripture_n often_o mention_n and_o repeat_v this_o you_o be_v a_o royal_a priesthood_n heir_n with_o christ_n labour_v to_o come_v to_o this_o disjunction_n if_o these_o thing_n be_v not_o so_o why_o do_v you_o believe_v they_o at_o all_o if_o they_o be_v so_o why_o do_v you_o not_o rejoice_v in_o they_o proportionable_a to_o these_o privilege_n and_o so_o for_o joy_n at_o his_o right_a hand_n there_o be_v joy_n and_o pleasure_n for_o evermore_o and_o as_o it_o be_v so_o for_o eternity_n so_o the_o near_o we_o draw_v to_o he_o in_o this_o life_n the_o more_o pleasure_n we_o have_v for_o he_o be_v the_o god_n of_o all_o comfort_n the_o near_o we_o be_v to_o he_o the_o more_o comfort_n all_o the_o way_n of_o wisdom_n be_v way_n of_o pleasure_n because_o they_o lead_v near_o to_o god_n who_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o comfort_n so_o that_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n to_o consider_v the_o good_a you_o shall_v have_v by_o christ_n when_o once_o you_o see_v how_o miserable_a you_o be_v without_o he_o and_o that_o you_o shall_v gain_v so_o much_o by_o he_o now_o in_o the_o three_o place_n mean_n there_o be_v one_o thing_n remain_v how_o shall_v i_o have_v he_o i_o may_v attempt_v it_o and_o go_v without_o he_o i_o may_v seek_v and_o be_v deny_v and_o therefore_o in_o the_o three_o place_n you_o shall_v be_v sure_a to_o obtain_v that_o be_v a_o great_a mean_n to_o encourage_v we_o to_o come_v unto_o he_o when_o you_o see_v you_o shall_v not_o fail_v there_o be_v nothing_o can_v hinder_v on_o your_o part_n as_o you_o have_v hear_v of_o in_o the_o precedent_a condition_n there_o be_v require_v but_o a_o earnest_a hunger_n and_o thirst_n after_o he_o he_o justify_v the_o ungodly_a and_o therefore_o nothing_o can_v hinder_v on_o your_o part_n and_o therefore_o if_o any_o thing_n hinder_v it_o it_o must_v be_v on_o god_n part_n now_o what_o be_v there_o on_o god_n part_n that_o hinder_v he_o have_v promise_v and_o bind_v himself_o and_o he_o will_v not_o go_v from_o his_o word_n he_o will_v not_o deny_v himself_o and_o therefore_o when_o there_o be_v no_o hindrance_n on_o neither_o part_n then_o why_o do_v you_o not_o believe_v if_o you_o will_v consider_v christ_n sinner_n and_o see_v how_o he_o describe_v himself_o in_o the_o word_n if_o you_o look_v unto_o all_o those_o argument_n that_o be_v propound_v unto_o we_o therein_o to_o persuade_v we_o you_o will_v make_v no_o question_n but_o if_o you_o be_v willing_a to_o come_v you_o be_v sure_a to_o receive_v he_o you_o shall_v have_v remission_n of_o all_o your_o sin_n scripture_n if_o you_o consider_v first_o those_o speech_n in_o eâ—â—kiel_n i_o desire_v not_o the_o death_n of_o a_o sinner_n and_o why_o will_v you_o die_v o_o you_o house_n of_o israel_n such_o expostulation_n be_v very_o frequent_a oh_o that_o my_o people_n will_v return_v and_o how_o often_o will_v i_o have_v gather_v you_o as_o the_o hen_n gather_v her_o chicken_n i_o say_v these_o be_v the_o speech_n of_o god_n and_o god_n speak_v as_o he_o mean_v you_o shall_v find_v by_o the_o manner_n and_o the_o fashion_n and_o the_o figure_n of_o the_o speech_n that_o god_n desire_v it_o earnest_o why_o will_v you_o die_v o_o you_o house_n of_o israel_n by_o way_n of_o interrogation_n and_o oh_o that_o my_o people_n will_v do_v thus_o and_o thus_o even_o this_o god_n desire_n that_o a_o sinner_n will_v return_v there_o be_v no_o action_n that_o god_n do_v but_o he_o do_v it_o willing_o that_o he_o forgive_v sinner_n that_o he_o receive_v those_o man_n that_o will_v come_v home_o unto_o he_o you_o see_v in_o the_o father_n of_o the_o prodigal_n that_o do_v express_v the_o disposition_n of_o god_n he_o run_v to_o meet_v his_o son_n he_o be_v the_o forward_a of_o the_o two_o he_o fall_v upon_o he_o and_o kiss_v he_o he_o can_v not_o express_v his_o joy_n for_o his_o come_n home_o such_o be_v the_o disposition_n of_o god_n i_o take_v no_o delight_n as_o i_o â—â—ue_v say_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o death_n of_o a_o sinner_n but_o rather_o that_o he_o shall_v live_v and_o therefore_o when_o god_n say_v it_o we_o have_v a_o sure_a word_n you_o shall_v will_v be_v mind_v other_o matter_n some_o about_o their_o profit_n and_o some_o their_o pleasure_n etc._n etc._n but_o when_o the_o holy_a ghost_n shall_v show_v you_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v when_o he_o present_v they_o to_o we_o that_o draw_v the_o heart_n from_o mind_v other_o thing_n to_o seek_v after_o christ_n to_o long_o after_o he_o and_o not_o to_o content_v yourselves_o till_o you_o be_v unite_v to_o he_o but_o beside_o this_o there_o be_v a_o three_o act_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n we_o by_o which_o he_o work_v it_o and_o make_v this_o faith_n effectual_a and_o that_o be_v the_o testimony_n that_o the_o spirit_n give_v to_o our_o spirit_n tell_v we_o that_o these_o thing_n be_v we_o when_o the_o heart_n be_v prepare_v by_o the_o law_n and_o when_o these_o thing_n be_v so_o show_v unto_o we_o that_o we_o prize_v they_o and_o long_o after_o they_o yet_o there_o must_v be_v a_o three_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o take_v they_o to_o ourselves_o to_o believe_v that_o they_o be_v we_o spirit_n and_o there_o need_v a_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n for_o this_o too_o for_o though_o the_o promise_n be_v never_o so_o clear_a yet_o have_v nothing_o but_o the_o promise_n you_o will_v find_v that_o you_o will_v never_o be_v able_a to_o apply_v they_o to_o yourselves_o but_o when_o the_o holy_a ghost_n shall_v say_v christ_n be_v thou_o and_o these_o thing_n belong_v to_o thou_o and_o god_n be_v thy_o father_n when_o the_o spirit_n shall_v bear_v witness_n with_o our_o spirit_n by_o a_o immediate_a work_n of_o his_o own_o than_o we_o shall_v believe_v this_o be_v necessary_o require_v way_n and_o without_o this_o we_o shall_v not_o believe_v it_o be_v true_a the_o holy_a man_n do_v it_o two_o way_n one_o be_v by_o clear_n of_o the_o promise_n promise_n shine_v into_o our_o heart_n by_o such_o a_o light_n as_o make_v we_o able_a to_o discern_v they_o and_o to_o believe_v they_o and_o to_o assent_v to_o they_o but_o beside_o that_o voice_n he_o do_v it_o by_o a_o immediate_a voice_n by_o which_o he_o speak_v immediate_o to_o our_o spirit_n that_o we_o can_v say_v as_o they_o say_v joh._n 16._o 16.29_o now_o thou_o speak_v plain_o and_o speak_v no_o parable_n we_o understand_v thou_o full_o so_o till_o the_o holy_a ghost_n speak_v to_o we_o we_o be_v in_o a_o cloud_n god_n be_v hide_v from_o we_o we_o can_v see_v he_o clear_o but_o when_o we_o have_v this_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n to_o give_v we_o this_o witness_n than_o we_o believe_v plain_o indeed_o open_v therefore_o in_o isaiah_n 57.19_o say_v the_o lord_n i_o create_v the_o fruit_n of_o the_o lip_n peace_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v the_o minister_n may_v speak_v peace_n to_o you_o but_o unless_o i_o go_v and_o join_v with_o the_o minister_n except_o i_o add_v a_o power_n of_o my_o own_o that_o be_v such_o a_o almighty_a power_n as_o i_o use_v in_o the_o creation_n it_o shall_v never_o bring_v peace_n to_o you_o i_o create_v the_o fruit_n of_o the_o lip_n that_o be_v the_o word_n of_o the_o minister_n to_o be_v peace_n otherwise_o they_o will_v be_v ineffectual_a therefore_o i_o say_v there_o must_v be_v a_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o persuade_v a_o man_n in_o such_o a_o case_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v by_o experience_n let_v a_o minister_n come_v to_o they_o that_o be_v in_o despair_n they_o will_v not_o apprehend_v the_o promise_n not_o though_o we_o use_v never_o so_o clear_a reason_n though_o we_o argue_v with_o they_o never_o so_o long_o and_o never_o so_o strong_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o all_o will_v do_v nothing_o it_o will_v be_v but_o labour_n spend_v in_o vain_a till_o god_n himself_o open_v the_o cloud_n till_o he_o will_v smile_v on_o a_o man_n and_o send_v his_o spirit_n into_o the_o heart_n to_o give_v a_o secret_a witness_n to_o he_o till_o there_o be_v a_o work_n of_o his_o own_o join_n with_o the_o promise_n we_o find_v by_o experience_n that_o our_o labour_n be_v lose_v it_o be_v true_a we_o ought_v to_o do_v this_o and_o every_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o look_v to_o the_o word_n for_o faith_n come_v by_o hear_v and_o to_o hearken_v to_o the_o ministry_n for_o it_o be_v god_n ordinance_n to_o breed_v faith_n in_o the_o heart_n but_o yet_o till_o there_o be_v a_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n a_o man_n shall_v never_o be_v so_o persuade_v as_o to_o have_v any_o sure_a and_o sound_a comfort_n by_o it_o now_o all_o this_o be_v do_v by_o the_o spirit_n it_o be_v the_o wonderful_a work_n of_o god_n for_o when_o christ_n be_v propound_v to_o man_n when_o he_o be_v offer_v as_o we_o have_v often_o offer_v he_o to_o you_o we_o have_v show_v you_o what_o access_n you_o have_v to_o he_o that_o no_o man_n be_v exclude_v that_o he_o be_v offer_v to_o every_o creature_n under_o heaven_n we_o have_v show_v you_o the_o generality_n of_o the_o promise_n that_o it_o take_v in_o all_o that_o you_o be_v contain_v under_o it_o that_o you_o may_v apply_v it_o to_o yourselves_o i_o say_v when_o all_o this_o be_v do_v yet_o when_o a_o man_n come_v to_o perform_v this_o to_o apply_v it_o to_o himself_o he_o be_v no_o more_o able_a to_o do_v it_o than_o a_o dead_a man_n be_v able_a to_o stir_v himself_o therefore_o the_o same_o power_n that_o raise_v christ_n from_o the_o dead_a be_v require_v to_o work_v faith_n in_o our_o heart_n as_o it_o be_v in_o eph._n 1.19_o open_v according_a to_o his_o mighty_a power_n which_o he_o wrought_v in_o christ_n when_o he_o raise_v he_o from_o the_o dead_a so_o that_o it_o be_v as_o great_a a_o work_n to_o move_v a_o man_n heart_n to_o christ_n as_o to_o put_v life_n into_o a_o dead_a man_n we_o be_v as_o unapt_a and_o backward_o to_o it_o as_o a_o dead_a man_n be_v to_o receive_v life_n for_o what_o else_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o when_o we_o preach_v christ_n to_o you_o when_o he_o be_v offer_v to_o you_o that_o there_o be_v so_o few_o that_o be_v affect_v with_o he_o that_o there_o be_v so_o few_o that_o take_v he_o do_v it_o not_o show_v that_o you_o be_v dead_a yea_o so_o dead_a that_o unless_o god_n call_v you_o and_o that_o there_o be_v a_o mighty_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n the_o heart_n of_o man_n will_v never_o answer_v unto_o us._n therefore_o that_o be_v require_v as_o a_o condition_n in_o all_o they_o who_o will_v come_v 2.39_o act._n 2._o so_o many_o as_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n shall_v call_v that_o be_v when_o we_o be_v strong_a and_o forcible_a but_o that_o there_o be_v a_o great_a backwardness_n in_o man_n that_o they_o must_v as_o it_o be_v be_v constrain_v that_o they_o must_v be_v put_v on_o it_o by_o force_n and_o against_o their_o will_n such_o be_v the_o unaptnesse_n that_o be_v in_o man_n open_v so_o say_v christ_n no_o man_n come_v to_o i_o except_o the_o father_n draw_v he_o that_o phrase_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n show_v that_o there_o be_v a_o extreme_a backwardness_n that_o if_o they_o be_v not_o force_v to_o come_v as_o it_o be_v they_o will_v not_o do_v it_o not_o but_o that_o when_o a_o man_n be_v once_o wrought_v upon_o by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n he_o come_v of_o himself_o but_o that_o phrase_n be_v use_v only_o to_o show_v that_o backwardness_n that_o be_v in_o man_n by_o nature_n for_o when_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v wrought_v upon_o the_o will_n draw_v and_o have_v turn_v that_o than_o a_o man_n come_v upon_o his_o own_o leg_n and_o be_v move_v from_o a_o inward_a principle_n of_o his_o own_o therefore_o man_n be_v so_o draw_v that_o withal_o they_o run_v after_o he_o as_o it_o be_v cant._n 1._o 1.4_o but_o it_o show_v this_o thing_n for_o which_o i_o have_v use_v it_o that_o there_o be_v a_o wondrous_a backwardness_n in_o all_o of_o we_o by_o nature_n and_o that_o this_o must_v be_v do_v by_o a_o great_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n
as_o thou_o have_v be_v a_o stranger_n to_o he_o and_o he_o to_o thou_o all_o thy_o life_n certain_o thou_o can_v not_o and_o when_o thou_o come_v and_o pray_v earnest_o when_o some_o great_a cross_n be_v on_o thou_o in_o some_o great_a exigent_n in_o the_o day_n of_o death_n in_o the_o time_n of_o thy_o sickness_n know_v that_o though_o thou_o pray_v never_o so_o fervent_o although_o thou_o add_v fast_v to_o quicken_v it_o yet_o it_o be_v doubtful_a whether_o it_o be_v acceptable_a prayer_n at_o all_o in_o that_o exigent_n the_o scripture_n give_v it_o another_o term_n in_o hosea_n 7.14_o open_v say_v he_o you_o pray_v not_o to_o i_o with_o your_o heart_n but_o you_o howl_v upon_o your_o bed_n it_o come_v not_o out_o of_o any_o love_n to_o i_o nor_o from_o any_o change_n of_o heart_n it_o come_v not_o out_o of_o a_o holy_a disposition_n in_o you_o therefore_o you_o pray_v not_o to_o i_o when_o you_o howl_v upon_o your_o bed_n that_o be_v as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v they_o be_v no_o more_o but_o howl_n will_v not_o a_o dog_n or_o a_o beast_n or_o any_o other_o unreasonable_a creature_n when_o they_o be_v pinch_v when_o they_o be_v in_o extremity_n will_v they_o not_o cry_v will_v they_o not_o moan_v for_o help_v your_o prayer_n be_v no_o more_o they_o be_v but_o howl_n upon_o your_o bed_n and_o what_o be_v they_o for_o they_o be_v to_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o present_a affliction_n they_o be_v to_o have_v wine_n and_o oil_n in_o that_o great_a dearth_n that_o be_v upon_o they_o and_o so_o in_o those_o case_n your_o earnest_a prayer_n be_v but_o howl_n upon_o your_o bed_n and_o therefore_o think_v not_o that_o this_o be_v prayer_n be_v not_o deceive_v in_o it_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v the_o manner_n of_o the_o saint_n if_o you_o will_v know_v it_o when_o they_o come_v to_o pray_v they_o come_v bold_o to_o god_n they_o come_v bold_o to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v eph._n 3_o 7._o 3.7_o by_o faith_n we_o have_v boldness_n and_o entrance_n with_o confidence_n another_o man_n he_o pray_v earnest_o but_o examine_v his_o heart_n and_o he_o must_v needs_o say_v indeed_o god_n be_v a_o stranger_n to_o i_o i_o can_v be_v confident_a it_o may_v be_v he_o hear_v i_o it_o may_v be_v he_o hear_v i_o not_o whereas_o we_o be_v require_v to_o lift_v up_o pure_a hand_n in_o every_o place_n without_o wrath_n or_o doubt_v we_o be_v require_v to_o come_v with_o boldness_n and_o know_v this_o that_o if_o otherwise_o thou_o pray_v morning_n and_o night_n if_o thou_o make_v never_o so_o many_o prayer_n from_o day_n to_o day_n if_o thou_o be_v never_o so_o constant_a in_o they_o god_n regard_v they_o not_o he_o take_v they_o by_o weight_n and_o not_o by_o number_n not_o by_o labour_n not_o by_o earnestness_n which_o be_v a_o thing_n that_o may_v come_v from_o the_o flesh_n if_o thy_o prayer_n come_v from_o his_o spirit_n he_o accept_v of_o it_o if_o not_o be_v sure_a it_o be_v no_o prayer_n and_o if_o there_o be_v no_o prayer_n there_o be_v no_o faith_n peace_n three_o if_o thou_o will_v know_v whether_o thou_o have_v faith_n or_o no_o consider_v whether_o thou_o have_v peace_n for_o faith_n pacify_v the_o heart_n aswell_o as_o purify_v it_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v rom._n 5.1_o 5.1_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n we_o have_v peace_n with_o god_n now_o if_o thou_o will_v know_v whether_o thy_o faith_n which_o thou_o have_v be_v right_a or_o no_o consider_v if_o there_o be_v peace_n there_o have_v thou_o that_o peace_n that_o pass_v all_o understanding_n you_o know_v now_o if_o a_o man_n be_v in_o debt_n and_o be_v ready_a to_o be_v cast_v into_o prison_n and_o see_v not_o how_o he_o shall_v escape_v and_o one_o shall_v promise_v he_o a_o hundred_o pound_n which_o will_v deliver_v he_o if_o he_o believe_v this_o friend_n he_o be_v full_a of_o peace_n and_o quiet_a if_o thou_o believe_v thy_o pardon_n to_o be_v good_a there_o will_v be_v peace_n but_o object_n you_o will_v say_v to_o i_o there_o be_v many_o a_o man_n have_v peace_n who_o have_v no_o faith_n it_o be_v true_a ans._n but_o i_o will_v ask_v this_o question_n concern_v this_o peace_n be_v it_o a_o peace_n that_o come_v after_o war_n have_v thou_o knowledge_n of_o that_o enmity_n between_o god_n and_o thou_o have_v thou_o have_v the_o sense_n of_o it_o and_o after_o this_o have_v thou_o be_v reconcile_v again_o be_v it_o such_o a_o calm_a that_o follow_v after_o a_o storm_n go_v before_o as_o i_o say_v before_o when_o it_o have_v be_v always_o so_o with_o thou_o when_o thou_o have_v have_v peace_n and_o there_o have_v be_v no_o difference_n with_o thou_o certain_o this_o be_v not_o peace_n this_o be_v a_o blind_a peace_n when_o a_o man_n be_v at_o peace_n not_o because_o he_o have_v escape_v the_o danger_n but_o because_o he_o never_o see_v the_o danger_n because_o he_o see_v not_o what_o danger_n there_o be_v hence_o it_o be_v that_o many_o man_n yea_o many_o thousand_o some_o assault_n make_v by_o he_o again_o for_o be_v thou_o assure_v if_o it_o be_v true_a peace_n if_o satan_n be_v cast_v out_o he_o will_v not_o let_v thou_o alone_o thou_o shall_v be_v sure_a to_o not_o answer_v i_o and_o it_o be_v not_o my_o experience_n only_o but_o it_o be_v the_o experience_n of_o other_o likewise_o they_o pray_v and_o god_n do_v not_o hear_v their_o prayer_n what_o shall_v sustain_v i_o therefore_o now_o ans._n to_o this_o i_o answer_v it_o be_v certain_a that_o god_n always_o hear_v thy_o prayer_n there_o be_v no_o doubt_n to_o be_v make_v of_o that_o he_o be_v a_o that_o god_n will_v not_o do_v it_o in_o these_o case_n and_o therefore_o learn_v in_o such_o a_o case_n when_o thou_o come_v to_o god_n for_o outward_a thing_n or_o for_o the_o measure_n of_o grace_n or_o for_o the_o present_a use_n of_o grace_n as_o you_o shall_v hear_v hereafter_o it_o may_v be_v he_o answer_v thou_o not_o yet_o thou_o must_v acknowledge_v god_n to_o be_v only_o wise_a if_o we_o you_o shall_v find_v never_o so_o much_o excellency_n in_o he_o if_o he_o be_v not_o agreeable_a to_o you_o you_o love_v he_o not_o a_o woman_n may_v see_v a_o man_n that_o she_o think_v be_v very_o it_o be_v not_o meat_n and_o drink_v it_o must_v be_v a_o medicine_n that_o be_v fit_a for_o his_o disease_n so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n when_o his_o heart_n be_v so_o break_a so_o humble_v and_o touch_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o his_o sin_n that_o he_o belong_v after_o nothing_o but_o remission_n nothing_o but_o the_o assurance_n of_o god_n favour_n the_o assurance_n of_o his_o love_n and_o kindness_n nothing_o will_v satisfy_v he_o but_o that_o it_o be_v so_o in_o natural_a defect_n and_o so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n when_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n be_v so_o you_o know_v the_o water_n of_o the_o spring_n and_o fountain_n be_v so_o the_o lord_n do_v with_o we_o if_o thou_o will_v give_v thy_o heart_n desire_v thy_o affection_n to_o he_o thou_o shall_v but_o the_o lord_n must_v have_v all_o and_o there_o be_v good_a reason_n for_o it_o because_o he_o bestow_v all_o on_o you_o it_o be_v in_o this_o love_n as_o it_o be_v in_o marriage_n in_o that_o there_o be_v no_o corrival_n admit_v but_o there_o must_v be_v all_o in_o all_o for_o the_o husband_n must_v bestow_v himself_o whole_o on_o his_o wife_n and_o the_o wife_n on_o the_o husband_n so_o if_o you_o love_v the_o lord_n if_o the_o match_n be_v make_v between_o you_o there_o be_v all_o in_o that_o equality_n if_o the_o lord_n bestow_v all_o on_o you_o and_o you_o shall_v bestow_v but_o half_a on_o he_o there_o will_v be_v no_o equality_n there_o will_v be_v a_o unennesse_n but_o when_o you_o bestow_v all_o on_o he_o when_o you_o love_v he_o with_o all_o your_o heart_n and_o with_o all_o kind_n of_o excellency_n whatsoever_o there_o be_v that_o be_v amiable_a under_o the_o sun_n all_o that_o you_o shall_v find_v in_o he_o more_o abundant_o if_o ever_o you_o see_v any_o thing_n in_o any_o creature_n any_o thing_n amiable_a in_o man_n if_o ever_o you_o see_v any_o beauty_n any_o virtue_n any_o excellency_n all_o these_o must_v be_v more_o abundant_a in_o he_o that_o make_v these_o creature_n and_o therefore_o if_o you_o have_v a_o love_n as_o there_o be_v no_o man_n without_o some_o love_n or_o other_o some_o creature_n seem_v beautiful_a to_o you_o think_v with_o yourselves_o this_o be_v more_o in_o the_o lord_n if_o ever_o you_o see_v excellency_n in_o any_o man_n if_o ever_o you_o see_v any_o nobleness_n any_o holiness_n any_o excellency_n of_o disposition_n know_v that_o it_o be_v more_o abundant_a in_o the_o lord_n jesus_n let_v these_o river_n lead_v you_o to_o that_o ocean_n to_o that_o abundance_n of_o excellency_n that_o be_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o if_o you_o love_v any_o creature_n let_v it_o be_v with_o a_o little_a love_n let_v your_o affection_n be_v proportionable_a to_o the_o object_n as_o it_o exceed_v in_o the_o lord_n so_o let_v your_o love_n exceed_v towards_o he_o to_o love_v he_o with_o all_o your_o soul_n and_o all_o your_o strength_n and_o know_v this_o that_o he_o have_v not_o only_o that_o in_o a_o omnipotent_a manner_n that_o be_v but_o sprinkle_v among_o the_o creature_n they_o have_v but_o a_o spark_n but_o a_o drop_n of_o it_o but_o also_o there_o be_v this_o in_o the_o lord_n that_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o he_o but_o that_o which_o be_v amiable_a every_o creature_n have_v some_o imperfection_n in_o it_o there_o be_v somewhat_o in_o it_o may_v cause_v aversation_n in_o you_o there_o be_v no_o man_n but_o have_v some_o weakness_n but_o have_v some_o infirmity_n there_o be_v no_o creature_n but_o it_o have_v some_o want_n some_o defect_n in_o it_o but_o in_o the_o lord_n there_o be_v no_o want_n there_o be_v nothing_o to_o put_v you_o off_o but_o as_o the_o church_n say_v cant._n 5._o he_o be_v whole_o delectable_a that_o be_v there_o be_v nothing_o in_o he_o but_o that_o which_o be_v amiable_a that_o will_v be_v a_o very_a profitable_a thing_n for_o we_o in_o this_o case_n often_o to_o think_v on_o the_o lord_n jesus_n to_o present_v he_o to_o ourselves_o in_o our_o thought_n as_o the_o spouse_n do_v cant._n 5._o she_o consider_v her_o wellbeloved_a be_v the_o fair_a of_o ten_o thousand_o so_o we_o shall_v behold_v the_o person_n of_o our_o husband_n you_o know_v it_o be_v but_o a_o harlottry_n love_n to_o consider_v what_o we_o have_v by_o our_o husband_n to_o consider_v what_o riches_n he_o bring_v what_o honour_n and_o not_o often_o to_o contemplate_v upon_o his_o person_n and_o upon_o his_o virtue_n and_o excellency_n we_o shall_v learn_v to_o do_v this_o with_o the_o lord_n that_o we_o may_v love_v he_o therefore_o that_o we_o may_v help_v you_o a_o little_a in_o which_o without_o it_o he_o can_v do_v if_o a_o man_n have_v the_o art_n of_o arithmetic_n he_o be_v able_a to_o number_n or_o if_o he_o have_v the_o art_n of_o logic_n he_o be_v able_a to_o dispute_v come_v to_o all_o moral_a virtue_n what_o be_v temperance_n but_o that_o which_o enable_v we_o to_o do_v such_o and_o such_o thing_n upon_o such_o and_o such_o occasion_n what_o be_v patience_n but_o that_o which_o enable_v we_o to_o endure_v affliction_n so_o all_o that_o be_v excellent_a in_o man_n all_o those_o amiable_a those_o beautiful_a quality_n wherewith_o the_o soul_n be_v adorn_v be_v but_o so_o far_o good_a as_o they_o enable_v a_o man_n to_o do_v this_o or_o that_o now_o when_o the_o lord_n be_v say_v to_o be_v almighty_a the_o meaning_n be_v he_o have_v all_o excellency_n in_o therefore_o this_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o excellency_n that_o be_v the_o second_o description_n he_o be_v jehovah_n and_o he_o be_v almighty_a but_o now_o when_o you_o hear_v that_o the_o lord_n be_v thus_o constant_a and_o thus_o exceed_v in_o excellency_n a_o man_n will_v be_v ready_a to_o say_v what_o be_v this_o to_o i_o i_o be_o a_o sinful_a man_n there_o be_v nothing_o in_o i_o but_o that_o which_o may_v turn_v away_o the_o lord_n from_o i_o and_o cause_v he_o to_o abhor_v i_o well_o say_v he_o to_o comfort_v you_o know_v that_o i_o be_o merciful_a exceed_v pitiful_a exceed_v ready_a bear_v with_o we_o as_o he_o do_v let_v we_o do_v to_o a_o man_n injury_n and_o injury_n again_o and_o again_o and_o never_o give_v over_o what_o man_n can_v bear_v it_o do_v he_o not_o in_o the_o end_n withdraw_v himself_o and_o will_v no_o more_o be_v reconcile_v but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o the_o lord_n when_o we_o have_v do_v all_o yet_o return_v to_o i_o say_v the_o lord_n jer._n
