paul_n hope_n and_o patience_n aim_v to_o heavenly_a not_o to_o earthly_a accomplishment_n not_o look_v for_o the_o event_n of_o his_o hope_n in_o this_o life_n how_o then_o may_v his_o hope_n of_o heavenly_a glory_n and_o david_n hope_n to_o be_v defend_v and_o reléeve_v here_o in_o the_o land_n of_o the_o live_a concur_v they_o may_v well_o stand_v together_o even_o as_o christ_n by_o heal_v of_o corporal_a disease_n make_v man_n heavenly_a mind_v and_o clean_o by_o forgive_a their_o sin_n so_o david_n pray_v not_o so_o simple_o for_o corporal_a delivery_n but_o he_o pray_v also_o for_o the_o light_n of_o the_o truth_n that_o he_o may_v dwell_v in_o the_o temple_n of_o god_n for_o mercy_n and_o the_o like_a and_o although_o paul_n seem_v by_o his_o word_n to_o hope_v only_o for_o heavenly_a glory_n necessary_n for_o this_o life_n be_v necessary_o include_v he_o that_o due_o and_o true_o pray_v for_o heavenly_a can_v be_v frustrate_a of_o earthly_a and_o he_o that_o pray_v faithful_o for_o earthly_a can_v but_o therewith_o join_v heavenly_a blessing_n for_o true_a and_o sincere_a hope_n include_v both_o he_o therefore_o that_o through_o faith_n in_o christ_n do_v hope_n in_o the_o lord_n and_o become_v strong_a in_o he_o he_o will_v comfort_v his_o heart_n with_o the_o supply_n both_o of_o heavenly_a and_o earthly_a blessing_n as_o it_o be_v lawful_a for_o we_o to_o pray_v unto_o god_n for_o corporal_a necessary_n so_o be_v we_o bind_v to_o hope_n and_o wait_v for_o they_o without_o hope_n of_o victory_n david_n will_v never_o have_v enter_v the_o combat_n with_o goliath_n we_o must_v therefore_o hope_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v strong_a trust_v in_o god_n and_o our_o heart_n shall_v be_v comfort_v we_o may_v not_o look_v back_o or_o about_o we_o for_o help_v our_o help_n come_v from_o heaven_n therefore_o must_v we_o not_o hope_n and_o hope_v a_o hope_n partly_o from_o above_o and_o partly_o from_o beneath_o but_o our_o hope_n must_v be_v in_o hope_v to_o be_v strong_a to_o trust_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o to_o lay_v hold_n upon_o the_o hope_n that_o be_v set_v before_o we_o which_o hope_v we_o have_v as_o a_o anchor_n of_o the_o soul_n sure_a and_o steadfast_a and_o this_o be_v the_o comfort_n of_o the_o heart_n that_o david_n mean_v even_o our_o faith_n in_o god_n whereby_o we_o take_v hold_v of_o the_o assure_a performance_n of_o his_o promise_n not_o only_o of_o temporal_a and_o corporal_a but_o of_o spiritual_a and_o celestial_a blessing_n and_o the_o patient_a wait_a for_o they_o be_v our_o hope_n how_o then_o can_v it_o to_o sequester_v themselves_o from_o the_o world_n to_o god_n and_o yet_o commit_v many_o barbarous_a sin_n and_o gross_a impiety_n think_v themselves_o safe_a and_o to_o be_v reconcile_v to_o god_n by_o a_o confessory_a penance_n god_n will_v not_o only_o not_o hear_v they_o but_o reject_v they_o &_o their_o prayer_n for_o they_o seem_v religious_a and_o be_v not_o obedient_a to_o god_n and_o be_v not_o faithful_a and_o be_v not_o but_o be_v mere_a hypocrite_n who_o resort_v to_o the_o temple_n of_o god_n commit_v rather_o sacrilege_n than_o offer_v sacrifice_v acceptable_a to_o god_n christian_n yet_o cry_v they_o the_o church_n the_o church_n and_o yet_o far_o from_o be_v member_n of_o it_o so_o many_o séeming-good_a christian_n cry_v out_o preach_v prithee_o and_o seem_v never_o satisfy_v with_o sermon_n this_o desire_n be_v good_a if_o their_o heart_n desire_v it_o to_o profit_n and_o practice_v the_o word_n but_o if_o it_o be_v but_o to_o seem_v religious_a and_o inward_o retain_v their_o corrupt_a desire_n if_o they_o amend_v not_o their_o way_n and_o their_o work_n seem_v they_o never_o so_o holy_a they_o be_v but_o hypocrite_n for_o this_o be_v to_o be_v in_o the_o temple_n of_o god_n by_o his_o word_n preach_v to_o learn_v &_o to_o execute_v judgement_n not_o to_o oppress_v the_o poor_a nor_o the_o stranger_n the_o fatherless_a nor_o the_o widow_n not_o to_o deceive_v nor_o to_o walk_v after_o other_o god_n after_o riches_n and_o pleasure_n if_o this_o fruit_n of_o hear_v appear_v in_o they_o they_o be_v no_o doubt_n of_o the_o family_n and_o house_n of_o god_n and_o shall_v dwell_v in_o his_o tabernacle_n and_o rest_n secure_o upon_o his_o holy_a mountain_n for_o they_o be_v of_o the_o generation_n of_o the_o just_a but_o there_o be_v a_o generation_n god_n reveal_v in_o his_o word_n and_o to_o exercise_v himself_o in_o prayer_n where_o god_n be_v due_o and_o true_o call_v upon_o by_o a_o holy_a congregation_n there_o appear_v the_o glory_n and_o beauty_n of_o jehovah_n there_o be_v the_o ark_n of_o the_o lord_n the_o presence_n of_o the_o mighty_a god_n of_o jacob_n who_o glory_n fill_v the_o temple_n which_o the_o faithful_a man_n see_v with_o a_o spiritual_a eye_n but_o the_o carnal_a man_n though_o bodily_a present_n in_o the_o same_o temple_n apprehend_v it_o not_o as_o when_o paul_n be_v convert_v he_o see_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n shine_v upon_o he_o but_o they_o that_o iourny_v with_o he_o though_o near_o he_o see_v nothing_o so_o that_o god_n be_v only_o see_v of_o they_o to_o who_o he_o please_v to_o reveal_v himself_o this_o beauty_n of_o the_o lord_n shine_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n elect_v child_n by_o the_o revelation_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o none_o see_v but_o themselves_o and_o they_o take_v such_o sweet_a delight_n in_o the_o behold_n of_o the_o face_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n as_o they_o do_v receive_v in_o their_o soul_n the_o very_a impression_n of_o the_o image_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o only_o beget_v son_n of_o the_o father_n full_a of_o grace_n and_o truth_n even_o as_o moses_n receive_v through_o the_o splendour_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n upon_o mount_n sinai_n in_o his_o countenance_n such_o a_o impression_n of_o that_o glory_n that_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n can_v not_o endure_v to_o behold_v with_o their_o eye_n the_o glory_n of_o his_o countenance_n what_o remain_v then_o but_o that_o we_o neglect_v not_o the_o continual_a visitation_n of_o the_o temple_n of_o god_n to_o accompany_v the_o congregation_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o that_o heavenly_a word_n to_o pray_v unto_o god_n for_o his_o blessing_n and_o to_o give_v he_o praise_v for_o his_o benefit_n and_o the_o lord_n open_v our_o spiritual_a eye_n that_o we_o may_v even_o here_o behold_v with_o thou_o there_o be_v mercy_n and_o with_o thou_o be_v timely_a redemption_n though_o thou_o seem_v to_o tarry_v long_o and_o to_o give_v no_o ear_n unto_o my_o prayer_n which_o make_v those_o the_o guiltless_a blood_n of_o abel_n yet_o cry_v unto_o god_n for_o vengeance_n likewise_o the_o sin_n of_o sodom_n and_o gomorrah_n cry_v unto_o god_n for_o judgement_n as_o sin_n and_o murder_v impiety_n david_n tend_v to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o his_o own_o succour_n and_o safety_n and_o therefore_o say_v he_o harken_v unto_o my_o voice_n o_o lord_n when_o i_o cry_v which_o teach_v we_o not_o to_o be_v mute_a when_o any_o occasion_n of_o fear_n or_o affliction_n may_v move_v we_o to_o seek_v the_o help_n of_o god_n we_o must_v cry_v unto_o god_n not_o unto_o dumb_a stock_n and_o stone_n nor_o to_o any_o dead_a creature_n or_o angel_n who_o they_o be_v fond_o frame_v to_o represent_v but_o unto_o the_o live_a god_n he_o only_o can_v hear_v be_v our_o prayer_n never_o so_o secret_a and_o silent_a he_o hear_v moses_n and_o anna_n only_o move_v their_o lip_n without_o sound_n so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o loudness_n of_o the_o voice_n but_o the_o affection_n of_o the_o heart_n that_o make_v the_o cry_n where_o unto_o god_n give_v ear_n many_o no_o doubt_n can_v and_o do_v cry_v lord_n lord_n and_o that_o loud_a enough_o and_o yet_o they_o be_v not_o hear_v because_o they_o cry_v not_o in_o faith_n and_o therefore_o david_n do_v not_o only_o say_v lord_n harken_v unto_o my_o cry_n but_o withal_o crave_v that_o god_n will_v have_v mercy_n upon_o he_o for_o man_n may_v cry_v long_o enough_o and_o loud_a enough_o and_o not_o be_v hear_v unless_o god_n show_v mercy_n therefore_o say_v david_n harken_v unto_o my_o voice_n when_o i_o cry_v have_v mercy_n also_o upon_o i_o &_o hear_v i_o for_o god_n hear_v no_o man_n prayer_n but_o in_o his_o mercy_n and_o therefore_o be_v mercy_n in_o the_o first_o place_n so_o be_v seek_v but_o by_o faith_n hear_v they_o but_o the_o wicked_a and_o such_o as_o contemn_v his_o word_n he_o will_v not_o hear_v for_o they_o cry_v not_o in_o say_v they_o cry_v only_o for_o their_o own_o necessity_n not_o refer_v the_o end_n of_o their_o desire_n to_o god_n glory_n they_o cry_v of_o themselves_o with_o the_o lip_n only_o they_o come_v in_o their_o own_o name_n and_o respect_v only_o themselves_o and_o their_o own_o outward_a want_n and_o feel_v not_o nor_o acknowledge_v their_o inward_a defect_n they_o be_v sinner_n and_o repent_v they_o not_o they_o ask_v therefore_o and_o receive_v not_o they_o cry_v unto_o i_o say_v god_n but_o i_o will_v not_o hear_v they_o because_o they_o pray_v without_o faith_n and_o repentance_n therefore_o when_o affliction_n &_o anguish_n shall_v fall_v upon_o they_o they_o shall_v call_v upon_o i_o but_o i_o will_v not_o answer_v they_o shall_v seek_v i_o but_o shall_v not_o find_v i_o but_o the_o faithful_a afflict_a he_o hear_v and_o such_o as_o depart_v from_o their_o sin_n and_o walk_v righteous_o before_o he_o he_o consider_v as_o david_n himself_o confess_v i_o cry_v unto_o the_o lord_n say_v he_o and_o he_o hear_v i_o and_o deliver_v i_o out_o of_o all_o my_o fear_n and_o trouble_v they_o that_o fear_v the_o lord_n need_v fear_v no_o trouble_n for_o mercy_n compass_v they_o about_o on_o every_o side_n god_n providence_n attend_v they_o &_o they_o no_o soon_o call_v upon_o god_n but_o he_o hear_v nay_o before_o they_o cry_v he_o be_v ready_a to_o help_v they_o for_o his_o eye_n be_v ever_o upon_o they_o even_o at_o a_o instant_n to_o prevent_v whatsoever_o danger_n therefore_o may_v the_o faithful_a go_v comfortable_o forward_a in_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o lord_n trust_v in_o he_o and_o they_o shall_v never_o be_v ashamed_a hear_v we_o and_o help_v we_o he_o will_v delay_v no_o further_o time_n than_o may_v be_v for_o our_o good_a he_o may_v seem_v unto_o we_o long_o in_o come_v but_o he_o will_v come_v in_o a_o time_n convenient_a and_o his_o delay_n work_v only_a patience_n and_o hope_n in_o we_o which_o if_o these_o grace_n have_v their_o perfect_a work_n in_o we_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o he_o will_v never_o fail_v we_o nor_o forsake_v we_o howsoever_o such_o as_o be_v ignorant_a of_o god_n power_n and_o providence_n may_v think_v that_o unless_o god_n come_v at_o our_o first_o call_n he_o will_v not_o come_v at_o all_o which_o be_v a_o argument_n they_o believe_v not_o god_n promise_n for_o if_o they_o do_v they_o will_v make_v no_o such_o haste_n but_o wait_v the_o lord_n leisure_n not_o that_o he_o be_v so_o bust_v as_o he_o can_v intend_v either_o to_o hear_v we_o or_o help_v we_o for_o his_o ear_n be_v always_o open_a to_o hear_v and_o his_o hand_n always_o able_a to_o help_v every_o man_n as_o well_o as_o one_o and_o that_o at_o a_o instant_n but_o we_o may_v not_o limit_v the_o holy_a one_o of_o israel_n for_o he_o know_v the_o time_n and_o season_n fit_a for_o every_o of_o his_o intention_n shall_v we_o think_v that_o david_n in_o his_o extreme_a danger_n do_v not_o pray_v for_o delivery_n yet_o though_o his_o say_v be_v great_a he_o be_v not_o present_o set_v free_a though_o he_o cry_v out_o how_o long_a lord_n how_o long_o will_v thou_o absent_v thyself_o for_o ever_o joseph_n likewise_o in_o his_o captivity_n and_o imprisonment_n shall_v we_o think_v that_o he_o cry_v not_o unto_o the_o lord_n for_o delivery_n and_o that_o instant_o and_o yet_o he_o suffer_v he_o to_o endure_v the_o very_a iron_n setter_n and_o stock_n until_o god_n appoint_v time_n come_v and_o then_o when_o the_o counsel_n of_o the_o lord_n have_v sufficient_o try_v they_o than_o he_o deliver_v they_o and_o show_v the_o abundance_n of_o his_o mercy_n towards_o they_o in_o advance_v they_o both_o we_o may_v not_o therefore_o murmur_v or_o repine_v at_o god_n correction_n though_o they_o continue_v in_o our_o opinion_n long_o it_o be_v not_o only_o that_o it_o be_v unsavoury_a to_o our_o carnal_a mind_n but_o for_o want_v of_o faith_n for_o where_o faith_n be_v strong_a it_o produce_v hope_n and_o in_o hope_n we_o wait_v with_o patience_n and_o we_o find_v by_o experience_n that_o hope_n and_o patience_n shall_v not_o be_v in_o vain_a then_o whosoever_o be_v afflict_v let_v they_o cry_v unto_o god_n to_o have_v mercy_n upon_o they_o and_o that_o in_o a_o lively_a faith_n and_o he_o will_v at_o least_o case_n they_o if_o he_o do_v not_o altogether_o deliver_v they_o he_o will_v keep_v his_o own_o under_o his_o own_o hand_n and_o not_o suffer_v they_o to_o have_v the_o freedom_n of_o the_o reins_n at_o their_o own_o pleasure_n know_v the_o unrulinesse_n of_o our_o own_o nature_n which_o if_o he_o curb_v it_o not_o will_v run_v into_o every_o sin_n and_o make_v no_o conscience_n of_o any_o impiety_n as_o we_o may_v see_v by_o holy_a david_n himself_o when_o god_n permit_v he_o but_o to_o have_v a_o little_a liberty_n a_o small_a breathe_a time_n from_o his_o trouble_n into_o what_o sin_n do_v he_o run_v yet_o a_o man_n choose_v of_o god_n if_o he_o so_o far_o forget_v himself_o how_o shall_v we_o that_o have_v not_o his_o spiritual_a gift_n refrain_v ourselves_o from_o offend_a god_n more_o gross_o in_o our_o security_n trouble_n and_o affliction_n fall_v not_o upon_o we_o without_o god_n providence_n though_o satan_n work_v what_o he_o
