we_o be_v capable_a to_o partake_v more_o and_o more_o of_o the_o divine_a perfection_n 3._o there_o be_v no_o fundamental_a doctrine_n of_o christianity_n but_o a_o obligation_n natural_o flow_v from_o it_o to_o some_o instance_n or_o other_o of_o a_o good_a life_n if_o the_o doctrine_n be_v that_o god_n be_v the_o maker_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n do_v not_o a_o obligation_n from_o thence_o lve_v upon_o all_o his_o creature_n to_o gratitude_n and_o praise_n if_o the_o doctrine_n be_v that_o god_n be_v the_o great_a sovereign_n of_o the_o world_n do_v not_o a_o duty_n plain_o follow_v that_o we_o his_o subject_n be_v to_o govern_v ourselves_o by_o his_o law_n do_v not_o the_o doctrine_n of_o his_o infinite_a goodness_n make_v it_o our_o duty_n to_o love_v he_o and_o imitate_v he_o and_o that_o of_o his_o irresistible_a power_n to_o dread_v the_o give_v he_o the_o least_o offence_n and_o to_o submit_v ourselves_o to_o his_o pleasure_n do_v not_o the_o doctrine_n that_o truth_n be_v one_o of_o his_o essential_a attribute_n make_v it_o our_o duty_n to_o believe_v he_o and_o to_o depend_v upon_o his_o promise_n do_v not_o the_o doctrine_n of_o his_o unsearchable_a wisdom_n oblige_v we_o to_o give_v up_o our_o will_n unto_o he_o and_o to_o leave_v the_o event_n of_o thing_n to_o his_o wise_a disposal_n do_v not_o the_o doctrine_n of_o his_o omnipresence_n his_o all_o see_v eye_n engage_v we_o to_o have_v a_o constant_a and_o awful_a regard_n of_o he_o and_o to_o walk_v circumspect_o in_o all_o our_o path_n the_o doctrine_n of_o god_n providence_n be_v concern_v not_o only_o in_o our_o most_o weighty_a affair_n but_o also_o extend_v even_o to_o those_o small_a thing_n of_o which_o we_o ourselves_o take_v no_o thought_n what_o powerful_a motive_n do_v it_o afford_v we_o against_o dejection_n pensiveness_n of_o mind_n and_o immoderate_a care_n the_o doctrine_n of_o all_o thing_n work_v together_o for_o the_o good_a of_o the_o faithful_a servant_n of_o god_n what_o a_o mighty_a obligation_n do_v it_o lay_v upon_o we_o to_o be_v content_v and_o easy_a in_o our_o present_a condition_n how_o much_o soever_o it_o may_v be_v beset_v with_o adversity_n and_o affliction_n and_o to_o take_v no_o indirect_a course_n to_o use_v no_o unlawful_a method_n or_o mean_n to_o get_v out_o of_o it_o the_o doctrine_n of_o god_n only_o have_v such_o a_o power_n over_o our_o soul_n that_o he_o can_v destroy_v they_o how_o plain_o do_v it_o imply_v that_o we_o be_v to_o dread_n god_n more_o than_o man_n and_o to_o disobey_v man_n rather_o than_o god_n the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o necessity_n of_o the_o suffering_n and_o passion_n of_o christ_n do_v it_o not_o make_v it_o our_o indispensable_a duty_n to_o mortify_v the_o flesh_n and_o to_o crucify_v the_o lust_n thereof_o 11.25_o and_o to_o prepare_v ourselves_o rather_o to_o suffer_v affliction_n with_o the_o people_n of_o god_n than_o to_o enjoy_v the_o pleasure_n of_o sin_n for_o a_o season_n and_o shall_v not_o the_o doctrine_n of_o his_o resurrection_n and_o ascension_n carry_v our_o thought_n and_o great_a design_n into_o the_o other_o world_n and_o fix_v our_o heart_n and_o all_o our_o affection_n upon_o the_o treasure_n which_o be_v in_o heaven_n in_o a_o word_n do_v not_o the_o doctrine_n of_o a_o day_n of_o judgement_n in_o which_o sentence_n shall_v pass_v upon_o all_o man_n for_o every_o thought_n word_n and_o deed_n oblige_v we_o if_o we_o have_v the_o least_o love_n of_o ourselves_o and_o dessire_n of_o our_o own_o eternal_a welfare_n to_o put_v our_o account_n in_o exact_a order_n and_o to_o break_v off_o our_o sin_n by_o a_o timely_a and_o sincere_a repentance_n and_o this_o be_v the_o method_n general_o of_o the_o apostle_n when_o they_o have_v deliver_v a_o doctrine_n they_o present_o draw_v a_o inference_n from_o it_o which_o be_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o a_o precept_n and_o where_o they_o do_v not_o express_v the_o precept_n it_o be_v ever_o imply_v and_o easy_a thence_o to_o be_v conclude_v see_v all_o these_o thing_n shall_v be_v dissolve_v what_o manner_n of_o person_n ought_v you_o to_o be_v in_o all_o holy_a conversation_n and_o godliness_n i._o e._n if_o you_o believe_v this_o christian_a doctrine_n of_o the_o dissolution_n of_o the_o world_n your_o life_n must_v come_v up_o to_o your_o principle_n and_o your_o faith_n be_v render_v effectual_a by_o the_o holiness_n of_o your_o conversation_n 3.3_o every_o man_n that_o have_v this_o hope_n in_o he_o he_o purifi_v himself_o even_o as_o he_o be_v pure_a do_v you_o hope_v to_o see_v god_n it_o unquestionable_o follow_v that_o you_o be_v to_o endeavour_v to_o be_v like_o he_o by_o imitate_v his_o purity_n 3.1_o if_o you_o then_o be_v rise_v with_o christ_n seek_v those_o thing_n which_o be_v above_o i._n e._n if_o you_o believe_v christ_n resurrection_n and_o as_o believer_n of_o it_o have_v be_v baptise_a into_o a_o profession_n of_o the_o christian_a faith_n than_o it_o become_v you_o to_o mind_v those_o thing_n which_o will_v procure_v your_o own_o resurrection_n likewise_o 6._o as_o you_o therefore_o have_v receive_v jesus_n christ_n the_o lord_n so_o walk_v you_o in_o he_o if_o you_o have_v receive_v the_o doctrine_n of_o jesus_n christ_n let_v not_o your_o behaviour_n carry_v any_o thing_n in_o it_o unsuitable_a to_o his_o holy_a doctrine_n but_o be_v you_o mindful_a to_o govern_v yourselves_o by_o the_o practical_a rule_n therein_o contain_v but_o against_o the_o point_n i_o be_o now_o upon_o some_o will_v be_v apt_a to_o object_n that_o one_o great_a doctrine_n of_o our_o religion_n the_o mystery_n of_o the_o holy_a trinity_n do_v not_o seem_v at_o all_o to_o concern_v a_o good_a life_n now_o though_o it_o may_v so_o seem_v to_o they_o who_o slight_o examine_v thing_n yet_o those_o who_o shall_v be_v at_o the_o pain_n more_o exact_o to_o consider_v this_o doctrine_n will_v be_v otherwise_o persuade_v for_o when_o we_o consider_v god_n so_o love_v the_o world_n as_o to_o send_v his_o only_a beget_v son_n to_o save_v all_o they_o from_o perish_v who_o shall_v believe_v on_o he_o do_v not_o this_o lie_v the_o high_a obligation_n upon_o we_o which_o be_v possible_a to_o make_v all_o the_o return_n of_o praise_n and_o love_n and_o gratitude_n and_o obedience_n when_o we_o consider_v there_o be_v that_o aversion_n in_o the_o divine_a nature_n to_o sin_n that_o god_n will_v not_o pardon_v it_o before_o ample_a satisfaction_n be_v make_v at_o the_o cost_n of_o the_o blood_n and_o life_n of_o his_o own_o son_n can_v there_o be_v any_o argument_n in_o the_o world_n more_o effectual_a to_o deter_v a_o man_n from_o sin_n and_o if_o he_o have_v any_o ingenuity_n to_o make_v he_o abhor_v the_o thought_n of_o it_o when_o we_o consider_v that_o this_o very_a same_o son_n of_o god_n who_o be_v the_o brightness_n of_o his_o father_n glory_n and_o express_v image_n of_o his_o person_n be_v now_o our_o high_a priest_n and_o have_v enter_v the_o holy_a of_o holies_n and_o do_v daily_o offer_v up_o our_o prayer_n to_o god_n and_o constant_o there_o intercede_v with_o he_o on_o our_o behalf_n will_v not_o this_o be_v apt_a to_o create_v in_o we_o a_o mighty_a confidence_n to_o address_v ourselves_o to_o the_o throne_n of_o heaven_n in_o all_o our_o want_n and_o strong_a hope_n that_o god_n will_v never_o forsake_v we_o in_o distress_n when_o we_o consider_v the_o holy_a spirit_n have_v consecrate_v our_o body_n and_o make_v they_o the_o temple_n wherein_o he_o will_v vouchsafe_v to_o dwell_v 11._o which_o be_v the_o peculiar_a privilege_n and_o mercy_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v there_o not_o a_o deep_a engagement_n thereby_o lay_v upon_o we_o to_o prepare_v these_o body_n for_o his_o reception_n by_o keep_v they_o pure_a from_o intemperance_n and_o filthy_a lust_n for_o fear_n we_o grieve_v this_o holy_a guest_n and_o cause_v he_o to_o desert_n such_o unclean_a habitation_n and_o vex_v he_o that_o he_o turn_v to_o be_v our_o enemy_n and_o so_o i_o hope_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o 2d_o point_n be_v clear_v and_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o establish_v that_o it_o be_v the_o design_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o advance_v godliness_n and_o that_o there_o be_v a_o aptness_n and_o direct_a tendency_n in_o they_o all_o to_o enforce_v the_o practice_n of_o it_o upon_o christian_n this_o notion_n the_o ancient_n have_v of_o christian_a religion_n when_o they_o style_v it_o a_o 〈◊〉_d institution_n according_a to_o there_o never_o be_v any_o religion_n in_o the_o world_n which_o do_v so_o earnest_o recommend_v and_o so_o strict_o enjoin_v godliness_n as_o the_o christian_a religion_n have_v do_v and_o yet_o that_o so_o little_a of_o it_o do_v appear_v in_o the_o life_n of_o christian_n we_o must_v conclude_v that_o there_o be_v either_o great_a defect_n in_o the_o religion_n or_o fault_n in_o the_o professor_n of_o it_o we_o must_v either_o say_v there_o be_v not_o a_o sufficiency_n in_o the_o mean_v christianity_n do_v prescribe_v and_o afford_v towards_o the_o attainment_n of_o true_a piety_n and_o religion_n have_v not_o be_v want_v to_o man_n but_o man_n have_v be_v want_v to_o themselves_o there_o be_v nothing_o require_v in_o our_o religion_n as_o our_o duty_n and_o a_o necessary_a therefore_o if_o man_n will_v not_o make_v use_n of_o that_o grace_n which_o god_n so_o plentiful_o pour_v forth_o upon_o all_o it_o be_v but_o fit_a and_o equal_a that_o they_o impute_v their_o defect_n to_o themselves_o and_o few_o have_v have_v the_o boldness_n direct_o to_o charge_v their_o vice_n upon_o god_n as_o if_o he_o have_v deny_v they_o power_n and_o opportunity_n to_o have_v be_v better_a they_o will_v lay_v their_o fault_n upon_o themselves_o but_o with_o some_o private_a reserve_v and_o suggestion_n that_o those_o fault_n be_v very_o pardonable_a one_o as_o be_v neither_o much_o offensive_a to_o god_n nor_o plain_o repugnant_a to_o the_o state_n of_o good_a man_n so_o the_o common_a way_n have_v be_v for_o man_n to_o frame_v such_o a_o model_n of_o religion_n to_o themselves_o as_o may_v suit_v with_o a_o vicious_a life_n and_o help_v to_o quiet_a the_o complaint_n of_o a_o uneasy_a conscience_n thus_o when_o person_n be_v debauch_v in_o their_o moral_n 9_o they_o be_v apt_a present_o to_o turn_v heretic_n in_o their_o faith_n it_o have_v be_v observe_v that_o nothing_o be_v more_o usual_a than_o for_o man_n to_o shelter_v the_o monstrous_a impiety_n of_o their_o life_n under_o some_o or_o as_o notorious_o impious_a opinion_n and_o to_o depart_v as_o far_o in_o their_o belief_n from_o the_o true_a doctrine_n of_o christ_n as_o they_o have_v before_o stray_v in_o their_o practice_n from_o his_o holy_a precept_n thus_o some_o man_n have_v justify_v a_o wicked_a life_n by_o deny_v the_o difference_n between_o good_a and_o evil_a and_o other_o have_v excuse_v it_o by_o pretend_v all_o their_o action_n be_v under_o a_o fatal_a decree_n and_o come_v necessary_o to_o pass_v some_o again_o make_v the_o performance_n of_o obedience_n to_o god_n law_n very_o needless_a by_o disow_v his_o providence_n and_o care_n of_o the_o world_n other_o will_v exempt_v themselves_o from_o the_o tie_n of_o godliness_n and_o virtue_n by_o fancy_v their_o religion_n to_o consist_v only_o in_o true_a believe_v and_o other_o place_v it_o all_o in_o outward_a show_n and_o ceremony_n some_o again_o hope_v they_o may_v enjoy_v both_o the_o brutish_a pleasure_n of_o this_o life_n and_o the_o pure_a one_o of_o the_o next_o and_o carry_v their_o sin_n a_o long_a with_o they_o to_o heaven_n by_o so_o exalt_v and_o extend_v god_n mercy_n unto_o obstinate_o impenitent_a sinner_n as_o to_o deny_v both_o his_o justice_n and_o truth_n and_o other_o cut_v the_o sinew_n of_o religion_n by_o call_v in_o question_n the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a and_o the_o reward_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v so_o simon_n magus_n that_o infamous_a magician_n and_o founder_n of_o all_o the_o heresys_n which_o follow_v he_o that_o he_o may_v serve_v his_o vain_a glory_n and_o ambition_n do_v covet_v the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o hope_v to_o purchase_v they_o by_o money_n 20._o he_o also_o boast_v that_o he_o himself_o be_v god_n and_o appear_v in_o samaria_n as_o the_o father_n among_o the_o jew_n as_o the_o son_n and_o to_o the_o gentile_n as_o the_o holy_a spirit_n he_o also_o deny_v that_o man_n have_v any_o liberty_n of_o will_n or_o that_o there_o be_v any_o necssity_n of_o good_a work_n 21._o so_o the_o nicolaitan_n for_o a_o cover_n to_o their_o abominable_a lust_n teach_v there_o aught_o to_o be_v community_n of_o world_n 70._o ascribe_v that_o work_n of_o omnipotency_n to_o angel_n thus_o also_o himenaeus_n and_o philetus_n deny_v the_o resurrection_n some_o of_o these_o ungodly_a man_n live_v in_o the_o day_n of_o the_o apostle_n of_o who_o st._n judas_n say_v 4._o they_o turn_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n into_o lasciviousness_n deny_v the_o only_a lord_n god_n and_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n now_o what_o in_o the_o primitive_a church_n be_v the_o disease_n only_o of_o some_o few_o man_n seem_v in_o our_o unhappy_a age_n to_o have_v be_v a_o plague_n which_o have_v general_o infect_v and_o and_o be_v glad_a of_o a_o opportunity_n of_o be_v beneficial_a to_o they_o and_o this_o be_v the_o doctrine_n which_o be_v according_a to_o godliness_n 5._o for_o if_o any_o man_n teach_v otherwise_o and_o consent_v not_o to_o wholesome_a word_n even_o the_o word_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o to_o the_o doctrine_n which_o be_v according_a to_o godliness_n he_o be_v proud_a know_v nothing_o but_o dote_v about_o question_n and_o strife_n of_o word_n whereof_o come_v envy_n strife_n rail_n evil_a surmising_n perverse_a desputing_n of_o man_n of_o corrupt_a mind_n destitute_a of_o the_o truth_n suppose_v that_o gain_n be_v godliness_n from_o such_o withdraw_v thyself_o so_o dangerous_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v for_o a_o christian_a more_o to_o busy_v himself_o about_o contentious_a dispute_n than_o the_o rule_n of_o a_o holy_a life_n for_o a_o dote_a upon_o question_n may_v betray_v he_o into_o that_o wrath_n and_o envy_n which_o shut_v man_n out_o of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n but_o it_o must_v be_v a_o continual_a exercise_n of_o himself_o according_a to_o godliness_n that_o will_v carry_v he_o thither_o so_o true_a also_o be_v it_o that_o neither_o the_o spiritual_a relation_n of_o brotherhood_n between_o christian_n have_v destroy_v the_o several_a order_n rank_n and_o qualitys_n of_o man_n in_o civil_a societys_n nor_o that_o christian_a liberty_n have_v take_v away_o the_o obligation_n which_o be_v upon_o servant_n to_o be_v obedient_a to_o their_o master_n and_o the_o duty_n that_o be_v upon_o the_o people_n to_o be_v subject_a to_o their_o governor_n this_o be_v part_n of_o the_o doctrine_n which_o be_v according_a to_o godliness_n but_o to_o come_v to_o a_o further_a improvement_n of_o our_o text_n there_o be_v these_o five_o proposition_n which_o seem_v very_o proper_a and_o natural_a to_o be_v insist_v on_o from_o it_o and_o which_o according_o i_o shall_v make_v it_o my_o business_n to_o treat_v of_o in_o this_o discourse_n 1._o that_o godliness_n be_v a_o fix_a and_o certain_a thing_n not_o variable_a according_a to_o place_n and_o time_n or_o the_o humour_n of_o man_n but_o the_o reason_n of_o it_o be_v eternal_a and_o unchangeable_a 2_o that_o the_o scope_n and_o end_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v to_o advance_v godliness_n and_o recommend_v the_o practice_n of_o it_o to_o mankind_n 3._o that_o it_o be_v a_o argument_n both_o of_o the_o truth_n and_o excellency_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n that_o all_o the_o doctrine_n thereof_o be_v conformable_a to_o godliness_n 4._o that_o they_o who_o teach_v or_o persuade_v man_n they_o may_v be_v save_v by_o their_o true_a opinion_n or_o sound_a belief_n though_o not_o accompany_v with_o a_o godly_a life_n do_v defeat_v the_o very_a design_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o obstruct_v that_o influence_n it_o shall_v have_v on_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n 5._o that_o whatsoever_o doctrine_n be_v not_o according_a to_o godliness_n be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v necessary_a that_o they_o can_v be_v true_a 1._o that_o godliness_n be_v a_o fix_a and_o certain_a thing_n not_o variable_a according_a to_o place_n and_o time_n or_o the_o humour_n of_o man_n this_o be_v apparent_a both_o from_o the_o text_n and_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o thing_n first_o of_o all_o the_o text_n plain_o imply_v it_o st._n paul_n require_v every_o man_n shall_v give_v consent_n to_o the_o doctrine_n which_o be_v according_a to_o godliness_n what_o can_v we_o gather_v from_o hence_o but_o that_o according_a to_o he_o godliness_n must_v be_v the_o standard_n and_o measure_n by_o which_o man_n be_v to_o judge_n of_o doctrine_n if_o a_o doctrine_n be_v according_a to_o godliness_n he_o be_v to_o assent_v to_o it_o if_o not_o according_a to_o godliness_n he_o be_v to_o dissent_v from_o it_o all_o man_n therefore_o must_v have_v one_o certain_a unvariable_a notion_n of_o godliness_n in_o their_o mind_n or_o else_o they_o can_v never_o know_v what_o doctrine_n they_o be_v to_o embrace_v and_o what_o to_o reject_v but_o second_o this_o do_v more_o evident_o follow_v from_o the_o notion_n of_o godliness_n itself_o for_o godliness_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o be_v like_o god_n it_o be_v a_o copy_n out_o in_o our_o mind_n and_o manner_n all_o the_o perfection_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n so_o far_o as_o we_o be_v capable_a now_o if_o those_o quality_n and_o perfection_n in_o god_n be_v eternal_a and_o unalterable_a then_o certain_o the_o notion_n of_o godliness_n in_o we_o must_v be_v so_o also_o it_o be_v true_a if_o we_o go_v to_o the_o criticism_n of_o the_o word_n this_o term_n of_o godliness_n be_v sometime_o use_v in_o a_o strict_a sense_n and_o import_v no_o more_o than_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n proper_o so_o call_v which_o consist_v in_o our_o have_v just_a and_o worthy_a apprehension_n of_o god_n and_o in_o render_v to_o he_o that_o love_n thanksgiving_n honour_n and_o adoration_n which_o be_v due_a to_o the_o great_a governor_n of_o the_o world_n and_o our_o best_a benefactor_n but_o in_o the_o large_a sense_n of_o the_o word_n and_o as_o it_o be_v here_o take_v by_o the_o apostle_n godliness_n be_v a_o comprehension_n of_o all_o the_o moral_a virtue_n and_o take_v in_o not_o only_a act_n of_o religion_n towards_o god_n but_o those_o of_o righteousness_n towards_o our_o neighbour_n and_o of_o sobriety_n with_o respect_n to_o ourselves_o in_o a_o word_n it_o be_v a_o walk_v suitable_o to_o that_o nature_n and_o that_o reason_n which_o god_n have_v give_v we_o and_o for_o god_n sake_n which_o notion_n of_o godliness_n be_v admit_v it_o can_v possible_o be_v think_v a_o arbitrary_a thing_n but_o must_v be_v eternal_a and_o immutable_a as_o the_o nature_n of_o mankind_n be_v or_o rather_o as_o god_n be_v who_o contrive_v that_o nature_n we_o may_v talk_v what_o we_o please_v of_o the_o indifference_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a but_o the_o more_o we_o think_v the_o more_o we_o shall_v be_v convince_v that_o there_o be_v a_o eternal_a goodness_n and_o evil_n in_o thing_n as_o they_o fall_v under_o a_o moral_a consideration_n now_o some_o action_n have_v a_o agreeableness_n with_o god_n holy_a nature_n and_o some_o a_o utter_a incongruity_n with_o it_o and_o if_o his_o holy_a nature_n be_v always_o the_o same_o eternal_a and_o unchangeable_a then_o also_o will_v those_o thing_n be_v eternal_o good_a which_o have_v a_o agreement_n with_o this_o bless_a nature_n and_o those_o eternal_o evil_a which_o do_v vary_v from_o it_o thus_o as_o to_o love_v and_o honour_n god_n be_v act_n most_o agreeable_a to_o his_o perfect_a nature_n so_o will_v it_o be_v eternal_o the_o duty_n of_o the_o creature_n to_o pay_v they_o unto_o he_o and_o it_o be_v a_o repugnancy_n in_o term_n to_o suppose_v god_n can_v command_v his_o creature_n to_o hate_v he_o or_o to_o do_v the_o least_o thing_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o rectitude_n of_o his_o nature_n beside_o there_o be_v such_o eternal_a respect_n and_o relation_n between_o thing_n that_o some_o action_n will_v be_v ever_o good_a and_o some_o evil_n we_o can_v suppose_v a_o benefactor_n but_o we_o must_v acknowledge_v that_o gratitude_n and_o thanks_o be_v his_o due_n we_o can_v allow_v a_o person_n to_o be_v innocent_a but_o we_o must_v grant_v too_o that_o no_o injury_n or_o hurt_v aught_o to_o be_v do_v unto_o he_o how_o unreasonable_a then_o be_v that_o opinion_n which_o make_v the_o civil_a law_n of_o the_o magistrate_n the_o only_a measure_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a for_o shall_v the_o magistrate_n forbid_v i_o to_o put_v up_o prayer_n to_o god_n will_v therefore_o the_o service_n of_o god_n be_v evil_a or_o shall_v he_o command_v i_o to_o kill_v my_o father_n will_v therefore_o parricide_n be_v lawful_a if_o so_o then_o there_o be_v action_n antecedent_o good_a to_o the_o law_n of_o the_o magistrate_n and_o duty_n not_o alterable_a by_o they_o in_o performance_n of_o which_o do_v the_o godly_a man_n exercise_v himself_o day_n and_o night_n they_o be_v say_v justin_n martyr_n asleep_o very_o acceptable_a to_o god_n who_o do_v those_o thing_n 263._o which_o be_v in_o their_o own_o nature_n universal_o and_o eternal_o good_a 2._o the_o scope_n and_o end_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v to_o advance_v godliness_n and_o to_o recommend_v the_o practice_n of_o it_o to_o mankind_n it_o be_v much_o true_a of_o christ_n doctrine_n what_o be_v say_v of_o the_o lacedaemonian_a law_n that_o it_o be_v the_o property_n of_o they_o all_o 171._o to_o inflame_v man_n mind_n with_o the_o love_n of_o virtue_n and_o to_o create_v a_o contempt_n of_o empty_a and_o sensual_a pleasure_n to_o this_o
