back_n and_o illustrate_v their_o doctrine_n and_o precept_n from_o instance_n and_o example_n of_o thing_n under_o the_o law_n yet_o they_o never_o make_v these_o example_n the_o sole_a ground_n agreeable_a to_o the_o mind_n of_o god_n whether_o that_o which_o be_v make_v to_o infant_n especial_o such_o who_o be_v the_o child_n of_o believe_a parent_n or_o whether_o that_o which_o be_v not_o make_v but_o unto_o person_n who_o either_o do_v indeed_o believe_v the_o gospel_n or_o which_o make_v such_o a_o profession_n of_o faith_n which_o can_v reasonable_o be_v deem_v to_o proceed_v from_o aught_o else_o then_o that_o which_o be_v faith_n indeed_o the_o best_a way_n i_o conceive_v to_o come_v to_o satisfaction_n hereabout_o will_v be_v to_o observe_v the_o footstep_n of_o the_o flock_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o first_o set_v forth_o of_o this_o ordinance_n of_o god_n into_o the_o world_n in_o the_o day_n of_o john_n baptist_n christ_n and_o the_o apostle_n successive_o for_o that_o now_o be_v the_o method_n of_o the_o apostle_n paul_n when_o he_o find_v corruption_n creep_v into_o the_o administration_n of_o that_o other_o ordinance_n the_o supper_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o shall_v be_v the_o first_o argument_n against_o infant-baptism_n which_o be_v draw_v from_o the_o matter_n of_o fact_n in_o the_o first_o administration_n of_o it_o and_o it_o be_v this_o if_o baptism_n be_v not_o administer_v to_o infant_n in_o the_o day_n of_o john_n the_o baptist_n argum._n i_o nor_o of_o christ_n nor_o of_o the_o apostle_n then_o ought_v it_o not_o to_o be_v administer_v to_o infant_n now_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o consequence_n be_v this_o because_o that_o which_o be_v a_o reason_n to_o they_o then_o to_o forbear_v baptise_v infant_n and_o upon_o may_v induce_v we_o to_o practise_v infant-baptism_n now_o which_o be_v not_o obligatory_a to_o they_o then_o they_o must_v arise_v either_o 1._o from_o some_o new_a discovery_n of_o god_n to_o we_o in_o this_o behalf_n of_o which_o they_o be_v then_o ignorant_a or_o 2._o from_o some_o great_a necessity_n now_o lie_v upon_o infant_n to_o be_v baptize_v than_o infant_n be_v under_o then_o or_o 3._o from_o some_o better_a capacity_n in_o which_o infant_n now_o stand_v to_o receive_v benefit_n by_o baptism_n than_o be_v enjoy_v by_o infant_n then_o or_o 4._o from_o some_o change_n or_o alteration_n of_o the_o ordinance_n itself_o by_o which_o it_o be_v better_a fit_v and_o accommodate_v to_o the_o condition_n of_o infant_n now_o than_o it_o be_v then_o or_o 5._o and_o last_o from_o some_o great_a necessity_n and_o better_a capacity_n which_o man_n and_o woman_n be_v now_o in_o to_o receive_v benefit_n by_o the_o baptise_v of_o infant_n than_o any_o they_o be_v then_o in_o former_o for_o other_o than_o these_o can_v light_o be_v suppose_v or_o imagine_v ever_o to_o come_v up_o into_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n but_o now_o there_o be_v no_o new_a discovery_n make_v to_o we_o touch_v the_o will_n of_o god_n to_o have_v infant_n baptize_v of_o which_o john_n baptist_n christ_n or_o the_o apostle_n be_v ignorant_a nor_o be_v infant_n themselves_o or_o any_o other_o in_o any_o great_a necessity_n or_o better_a capacity_n to_o receive_v benefit_n by_o infant_n baptism_n now_o than_o they_o be_v who_o live_v in_o time_n before_o specify_v nor_o be_v there_o any_o alteration_n or_o change_n indeed_o in_o the_o ordinance_n itself_o by_o which_o it_o be_v render_v more_o useful_a and_o beneficial_a to_o infant_n now_o than_o it_o can_v be_v then_o and_o therefore_o what_o ever_o the_o reason_n or_o consideration_n be_v upon_o which_o these_o primitive_a baptist_n do_v forbear_v to_o baptize_v infant_n the_o same_o be_v obligatory_a and_o bind_v now_o baptize_v in_o the_o primitive_a time_n but_o beside_o this_o there_o be_v other_o consideration_n of_o a_o proper_a and_o potent_a tendency_n to_o carry_v the_o mind_n of_o man_n that_o be_v at_o liberty_n and_o not_o under_o the_o band_n of_o prejudice_n and_o partiality_n to_o think_v and_o to_o conceive_v that_o no_o infant_n be_v baptize_v in_o the_o day_n and_o time_n before_o mention_v 2._o therefore_o second_o when_o we_o find_v the_o evangelist_n luke_n set_v himself_o to_o express_v and_o set_v forth_o the_o power_n and_o great_a success_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o samaria_n by_o that_o effect_n it_o wrought_v in_o cause_v multitude_n to_o be_v baptize_v he_o express_v those_o great_a number_n by_o make_v mention_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n act_n 8.12_o they_o be_v baptize_v the_o true_a definition_n of_o baptism_n as_o of_o all_o other_o thing_n be_v absolute_o and_o essential_o necessary_a to_o the_o be_v of_o it_o and_o therefore_o where_o either_o the_o true_a matter_n or_o the_o right_a form_n of_o a_o thing_n be_v want_v much_o more_o where_o both_o be_v want_v which_o be_v the_o case_n in_o infant-baptism_n there_o doubtless_o be_v a_o total_a deficiency_n or_o nonentity_n of_o the_o thing_n itself_o which_o clear_o be_v the_o case_n of_o infant-baptism_n in_o reference_n to_o the_o question_n in_o hand_n and_o therefore_o he_o that_o think_v to_o build_v any_o such_o thing_n upon_o that_o baptism_n he_o have_v receive_v in_o his_o infancy_n which_o be_v competent_a or_o proper_a to_o true_a baptism_n indeed_o have_v but_o air_n and_o vanity_n for_o his_o foundation_n the_o second_o thing_n to_o be_v inquire_v into_o be_v whether_o baptism_n by_o water_n ought_v necessary_o to_o be_v receive_v by_o such_o person_n who_o unbelieving_a world_n to_o be_v baptize_v as_o be_v a_o mean_v ordain_v by_o god_n for_o such_o a_o end_n likewise_o if_o then_o once_o to_o be_v baptize_v be_v a_o duty_n enjoin_v every_o disciple_n of_o jesus_n christ_n or_o such_o as_o profess_v belief_n in_o his_o name_n as_o in_o the_o first_o

those_o time_n in_o which_o these_o scripture_n be_v first_o give_v out_o and_o deliver_v to_o the_o world_n and_o another_o way_n now_o which_o if_o any_o man_n have_v a_o mind_n to_o suppose_v let_v it_o be_v at_o his_o own_o peril_n for_o my_o part_n i_o look_v for_o salvation_n in_o the_o ancient_a gospel_n way_n and_o upon_o no_o other_o term_n for_o if_o not_o one_o jot_n or_o tittle_n of_o
