spirit_n so_o who_o can_v implant_v holy_a affection_n in_o thou_o but_o he_o alone_o as_o for_o example_n to_o think_v a_o good_a thought_n a_o man_n can_v do_v it_o without_o he_o who_o be_v the_o father_n of_o spirit_n so_o to_o persuade_v a_o man_n no_o man_n can_v do_v it_o it_o must_v be_v the_o lord_n as_o noah_n say_v god_n shall_v persuade_v laphet_n to_o dwell_v in_o the_o tent_n of_o when_o a_o man_n come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n he_o say_v my_o mind_n be_v intent_n enough_o though_o i_o make_v not_o such_o a_o show_n yet_o notwithstanding_o know_v this_o that_o thou_o must_v trinity_n in_o the_o unity_n and_o the_o unity_n in_o trinity_n which_o we_o can_v do_v if_o we_o worship_v his_o humanity_n as_o separate_v from_o his_o deity_n therefore_o when_o you_o come_v to_o pray_v before_o god_n you_o must_v remember_v 34.6_o that_o he_o be_v a_o spirit_n fill_v heaven_n and_o earth_n strong_a gracious_a merciful_a full_a of_o goodness_n and_o truth_n etc._n etc._n can_v any_o man_n hide_v himself_o in_o secret_a place_n that_o i_o shall_v not_o see_v he_o say_v the_o lord_n do_v not_o i_o fill_v heaven_n and_o earth_n say_v the_o lord_n second_o that_o the_o lord_n fill_v heaven_n and_o earth_n as_o the_o soul_n fill_v the_o body_n so_o that_o thou_o must_v think_v that_o he_o see_v all_o thing_n and_o hear_v all_o thing_n indeed_o the_o lord_n be_v not_o in_o the_o world_n as_o the_o soul_n be_v in_o the_o body_n but_o in_o a_o incomprehensible_a manner_n which_o we_o can_v express_v to_o you_o yet_o this_o be_v a_o expression_n which_o we_o may_v help_v ourselves_o by_o and_o be_v use_v every_o where_o
therefore_o if_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o there_o be_v no_o way_n to_o help_v it_o but_o to_o get_v this_o corruption_n mortify_v to_o be_v cleanse_v from_o all_o pollution_n of_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v take_v a_o man_n that_o say_v he_o will_v amend_v his_o course_n that_o intend_v to_o be_v diligent_a in_o his_o call_n and_o think_v not_o to_o turn_v to_o such_o evil_a course_n but_o to_o serve_v god_n with_o a_o perfect_a heart_n observe_v now_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o this_o man_n break_v his_o purpose_n and_o fall_v off_o again_o it_o be_v cleanse_v thy_o heart_n if_o thou_o will_v be_v constant_a the_o second_o cause_n of_o unconstancy_n be_v weakness_n weakness_n if_o a_o man_n be_v free_a from_o that_o inward_a corruption_n yet_o weakness_n will_v make_v a_o man_n to_o be_v unconstant_a so_o much_o weakness_n so_o much_o unconstancy_n and_o so_o much_o strength_n as_o a_o man_n have_v so_o much_o constancy_n he_o have_v for_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o man_n be_v so_o fickle_a because_o the_o bank_n of_o his_o resolution_n be_v so_o weak_a to_o hold_v out_o against_o temptation_n when_o they_o assault_v he_o &_o he_o give_v over_o because_o he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o resist_v they_o and_o this_o ground_n i_o take_v out_o of_o 1_o sam._n 15.29_o the_o strength_n of_o israel_n will_v not_o repent_v for_o he_o be_v not_o as_o man_n that_o he_o shall_v repent_v by_o repent_v be_v mean_v a_o change_n now_o you_o see_v the_o reason_n give_v why_o the_o lord_n be_v not_o subject_a to_o change_v he_o be_v the_o thing_n must_v concur_v to_o make_v a_o resolution_n strong_a first_o there_o must_v be_v some_o reason_n that_o must_v move_v he_o second_o there_o must_v be_v a_o inclination_n of_o the_o will_n to_o it_o three_o it_o must_v be_v often_o renew_v first_o i_o say_v there_o must_v be_v some_o reason_n that_o must_v move_v he_o but_o if_o that_o be_v all_o he_o will_v not_o resolve_v therefore_o he_o must_v have_v a_o inclination_n of_o the_o will_n to_o it_o both_o these_o when_o they_o concur_v they_o make_v the_o resolution_n up_o when_o the_o understanding_n be_v convince_v and_o the_o will_v incline_v the_o understanding_n say_v there_o be_v reason_n for_o it_o and_o the_o will_n say_v it_o be_v good_a than_o this_o make_v up_o the_o resolution_n as_o first_o when_o a_o man_n have_v any_o reason_n to_o move_v he_o to_o any_o action_n and_o it_o be_v a_o strong_a reason_n so_o that_o he_o answer_v all_o objection_n that_o he_o meet_v with_o now_o the_o resolution_n continue_v firm_a but_o if_o his_o reason_n be_v not_o sufficient_a but_o he_o meet_v with_o objection_n that_o be_v strong_a than_o the_o first_o principle_n be_v take_v away_o the_o resolution_n grow_v flaggy_a and_o weak_a and_o so_o be_v it_o in_o the_o other_o also_o when_o a_o man_n have_v a_o desire_n to_o any_o thing_n if_o it_o be_v so_o strong_a that_o nothing_o be_v strong_a than_o it_o that_o can_v overtop_v and_o over-rule_v it_o than_o he_o go_v on_o without_o any_o impediment_n but_o if_o it_o be_v weak_a so_o that_o a_o strong_a desire_n can_v come_v and_o overballance_v it_o than_o the_o second_o principle_n be_v demolish_v and_o there_o be_v a_o end_n of_o this_o resolution_n so_o that_o let_v the_o reason_n on_o which_o we_o fix_v it_o be_v strong_a and_o let_v the_o inclination_n which_o must_v concur_v be_v fix_v and_o strong_a and_o then_o the_o resolution_n will_v be_v accordidg_n but_o i_o add_v the_o three_o that_o there_o must_v be_v a_o renew_n of_o this_o for_o though_o the_o resolution_n be_v well_o build_v yet_o to_o make_v it_o constant_a it_o must_v still_o be_v renew_v for_o there_o be_v some_o work_n which_o must_v have_v a_o three_o and_o four_o hand_n to_o go_v over_o they_o or_o else_o they_o will_v fall_v and_o moulder_v away_o and_o this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o our_o resolution_n also_o it_o be_v not_o the_o resolution_n of_o a_o day_n or_o two_o that_o will_v serve_v the_o turn_n for_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n be_v subject_a to_o such_o weakness_n that_o except_o our_o resolution_n be_v go_v over_o and_o over_o again_o they_o shrink_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o therefore_o the_o thing_n that_o case_v unconstancy_n be_v one_o of_o these_o three_o either_o weakness_n of_o reason_n that_o set_v thou_o on_o work_n or_o weakness_n of_o the_o inclination_n and_o desire_n or_o else_o not_o renew_v of_o this_o now_o when_o you_o have_v find_v out_o the_o cause_n of_o weakness_n you_o may_v easy_o find_v out_o the_o mean_n to_o make_v you_o resolute_a in_o well_o do_v as_o first_o labour_v to_o get_v strong_a reason_n for_o what_o you_o resolve_v on_o the_o want_n of_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o mutability_n of_o the_o second_o ground_n it_o want_v depth_n of_o earth_n that_o be_v the_o seed_n be_v good_a and_o the_o earth_n be_v good_a but_o it_o be_v not_o deep_a enough_o and_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o sun_n cause_v it_o to_o wither_v away_o so_o when_o we_o shall_v have_v good_a purpose_n and_o resolution_n and_o they_o have_v not_o root_n enough_o that_o be_v when_o he_o have_v not_o well_o examine_v the_o thing_n so_o as_o to_o be_v full_o convince_v of_o the_o thing_n that_o he_o undertake_v he_o be_v apt_a to_o be_v inconstant_a in_o it_o and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o eve_n inconstancy_n because_o she_o consider_v not_o the_o bottom_n that_o she_o be_v build_v upon_o on_o the_o other_o side_n the_o woman_n of_o canaan_n when_o she_o have_v fix_v her_o faith_n upon_o a_o good_a ground_n she_o will_v not_o be_v beat_v off_o though_o she_o can_v not_o answer_v the_o objection_n yet_o she_o will_v not_o be_v pluck_v off_o thou_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o therefore_o thou_o will_v show_v mercy_n and_o then_o she_o have_v need_n of_o mercy_n for_o her_o daughter_n be_v sick_a and_o weak_a and_o therefore_o she_o will_v not_o be_v drive_v off_o she_o will_v take_v no_o denial_n so_o be_v it_o with_o all_o our_o resolution_n when_o they_o have_v this_o depth_n of_o earth_n therefore_o the_o best_a way_n be_v to_o consider_v and_o forecast_v the_o worst_a so_o our_o saviour_n counsel_v to_o suspect_v the_o worst_a how_o can_v thou_o that_o have_v but_o two_o hundred_o go_v against_o he_o that_o have_v a_o thousand_o so_o be_v it_o in_o this_o case_n when_o you_o shall_v undertake_v a_o good_a course_n and_o you_o go_v out_o but_o with_o weak_a reason_n if_o satan_n or_o a_o lust_n come_v and_o object_v strong_a reason_n this_o will_v have_v fit_a object_n to_o exercise_v his_o faculty_n upon_o which_o if_o he_o have_v not_o they_o will_v languish_v and_o a_o wearisomeness_n will_v grow_v upon_o they_o second_o because_o he_o will_v have_v knowledge_n and_o direction_n and_o help_v and_o advice_n and_o comfort_v bring_v into_o his_o empty_a heart_n by_o such_o friend_n as_o be_v able_a to_o suggest_v it_o to_o he_o and_o therefore_o they_o desire_v company_n now_o shall_v they_o not_o find_v this_o in_o the_o lord_n more_o than_o in_o any_o creature_n be_v not_o he_o then_o the_o worthy_a and_o the_o high_a object_n on_o who_o they_o shall_v bestow_v their_o thought_n again_o can_v he_o fill_v thy_o heart_n with_o joy_n and_o comfort_v be_v not_o he_o only_o wise_a to_o give_v thou_o direction_n upon_o to_o be_v destitute_a of_o god_n and_o himself_o first_o a_o man_n walk_v by_o faith_n when_o he_o see_v god_n present_a and_o speak_v to_o he_o and_o he_o speak_v again_o to_o the_o lord_n and_o the_o strong_a a_o man_n faith_n be_v the_o more_o he_o do_v it_o again_o a_o man_n walk_v with_o himself_o by_o reflection_n on_o his_o own_o action_n and_o heart_n and_o way_n a_o beast_n can_v walk_v with_o itself_o because_o it_o can_v recoil_v and_o turn_v in_o upon_o itself_o neither_o can_v child_n or_o fool_n or_o weak_a and_o unconstant_a man_n therefore_o they_o can_v be_v without_o company_n it_o be_v a_o hell_n to_o they_o to_o be_v alone_o and_o the_o less_o a_o man_n wisdom_n be_v the_o more_o he_o complain_v of_o want_n of_o company_n see_v therefore_o god_n be_v every_o where_o present_a labour_v to_o strengthen_v thy_o faith_n in_o that_o his_o presence_n and_o so_o thou_o may_v still_o be_v with_o he_o and_o walk_v with_o he_o and_o then_o second_o labour_v to_o can_v tell_v how_o to_o have_v it_o heal_v or_o any_o weakness_n in_o your_o body_n and_o which_o be_v more_o than_o all_o this_o if_o there_o be_v a_o lust_n that_o you_o can_v overcome_v a_o temptation_n which_o you_o can_v be_v rid_v of_o if_o there_o be_v a_o deadness_n of_o spirit_n in_o you_o and_o indisposednesse_n to_o holy_a duty_n and_o you_o can_v tell_v how_o to_o get_v life_n and_o quicken_a remember_v that_o there_o be_v a_o almighty_a power_n reveal_v for_o that_o end_n and_o it_o be_v our_o part_n to_o make_v use_n of_o it_o though_o it_o be_v a_o hereditary_a disease_n in_o thou_o now_o you_o know_v a_o hereditary_a disease_n be_v that_o which_o we_o have_v from_o our_o parent_n though_o thou_o have_v such_o a_o disease_n such_o a_o strong_a lust_n yet_o think_v with_o thyself_o the_o lord_n be_v able_a to_o heal_v this_o jam._n 4.6_o a_o place_n name_v before_o but_o he_o give_v more_o grace_n etc._n etc._n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v when_o he_o have_v esteem_v it_o as_o a_o chastisement_n now_o no_o man_n will_v be_v thankful_a or_o afflict_v himself_o for_o that_o which_o be_v nothing_o and_o therefore_o there_o be_v something_o in_o the_o the_o lord_n the_o efficacy_n that_o they_o have_v to_o do_v we_o hurt_v or_o good_a god_n be_v from_o he_o and_o not_o from_o themselves_o if_o god_n will_v say_v to_o the_o creature_n go_v and_o do_v such_o a_o man_n good_a it_o will_v do_v it_o because_o there_o go_v a_o concourse_n of_o efficacy_n from_o he_o to_o do_v it_o so_o if_o he_o say_v to_o a_o creature_n go_v to_o such_o a_o man_n and_o afflict_v he_o it_o will_v do_v it_o though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o small_a and_o mean_a a_o creature_n therefore_o of_o themselves_o they_o neither_o do_v good_a nor_o hurt_n the_o efficacy_n nor_o hurt_n answ._n 2_o we_o say_v that_o they_o be_v nothing_o because_o they_o be_v at_o his_o command_n command_n if_o he_o will_v do_v we_o good_a he_o never_o want_v one_o to_o send_v of_o his_o errand_n if_o he_o will_v make_v a_o man_n rich_a he_o want_v not_o wealth_n it_o be_v at_o his_o command_n if_o he_o will_v give_v a_o man_n friend_n he_o can_v fetch_v they_o again_o if_o all_o thy_o friend_n be_v present_a yet_o they_o stir_v not_o unless_o he_o command_v the_o rich_a and_o the_o poor_a they_o meet_v together_o but_o the_o lord_n make_v they_o both_o and_o in_o this_o regard_n riches_n be_v say_v to_o be_v nothing_o prov._n 23._o 23._o riches_n take_v to_o themselves_o wing_n and_o fly_v away_o and_o why_o do_v thou_o set_v thy_o heart_n upon_o that_o which_o be_v nothing_o that_o be_v they_o go_v and_o come_v at_o his_o command_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v to_o be_v account_v as_o nothing_o if_o a_o man_n see_v a_o flock_n of_o the_o best_a fowl_n on_o
