rank_n 8._o neither_o shall_v one_o thrust_v another_o they_o shall_v walk_v every_o one_o in_o his_o path_n and_o when_o they_o fall_v upon_o the_o sword_n they_o shall_v not_o be_v wound_v 9_o they_o shall_v run_v to_o and_o fro_o in_o the_o city_n they_o shall_v run_v upon_o the_o wall_n they_o shall_v climb_v up_o upon_o the_o house_n they_o shall_v enter_v in_o at_o the_o window_n like_o a_o thief_n the_o five_o branch_n of_o the_o description_n be_v that_o these_o creature_n shall_v not_o only_o waste_v the_o land_n and_o destroy_v the_o fruit_n and_o herb_n but_o shall_v vex_v city_n and_o house_n and_o as_o a_o strong_a and_o numerous_a army_n do_v assault_v a_o city_n in_o order_n without_o break_v their_o rank_n so_o shall_v they_o invade_v city_n in_o orderly_a troop_n and_o shall_v enter_v man_n house_n by_o secret_a passage_n yea_o they_o shall_v be_v beyond_o army_n in_o this_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o fear_v the_o sword_n or_o any_o resistance_n but_o shall_v go_v through_o all_o impediment_n without_o either_o fear_n or_o hurt_v doct._n 1._o the_o sovereign_a and_o wise_a lord_n can_v order_v the_o motion_n of_o irrational_a creature_n to_o his_o purpose_n as_o if_o they_o be_v reasonable_a and_o train_v and_o discipline_v man_n in_o a_o army_n for_o so_o much_o do_v this_o large_a description_n of_o their_o orderly_a march_n and_o assault_n in_o term_n borrow_v from_o warrior_n teach_v we_o of_o this_o also_o he_o give_v proof_n in_o direct_v the_o motion_n of_o the_o kine_n who_o bring_v the_o ark_n from_o the_o land_n of_o the_o philistine_n 1_o sam._n 6.12_o 2._o man_n may_v expect_v when_o god_n be_v angry_a to_o have_v no_o shelter_n from_o his_o judgement_n but_o they_o will_v pursue_v they_o into_o their_o wall_a city_n and_o close_a house_n even_o when_o they_o be_v execute_v by_o creature_n who_o usual_o do_v flee_v from_o man_n for_o so_o be_v here_o hold_v out_o 3._o whatever_o be_v man_n duty_n to_o defend_v themselves_o from_o injury_n even_o when_o god_n thereby_o be_v pursue_v a_o controversy_n yet_o where_o divine_a vengeance_n pursue_v resistance_n of_o the_o instrument_n thereof_o will_v be_v to_o small_a effect_n for_o wall_n and_o house_n will_v not_o hold_v they_o out_o nor_o will_v the_o sword_n wound_v they_o which_o also_o hold_v true_a of_o other_o instrument_n that_o such_o mean_n will_v not_o overturn_v their_o project_n so_o long_o as_o god_n have_v service_n for_o they_o verse_n 10._o the_o earth_n shall_v quake_v before_o they_o the_o heaven_n shall_v tremble_v the_o sun_n and_o the_o moon_n shall_v be_v dark_a and_o the_o star_n shall_v withdraw_v their_o shine_a the_o fixth_a branch_n of_o the_o description_n be_v that_o the_o calamity_n shall_v be_v so_o dreadful_a as_o to_o work_v a_o great_a alteration_n in_o all_o the_o creature_n this_o may_v indeed_o be_v understand_v of_o extraordinary_a sign_n accompany_v this_o plague_n such_o as_o thunder_v whereby_o the_o heaven_n seem_v to_o tremble_v earthquake_n eclipse_n and_o darkness_n hide_v the_o shine_a light_n but_o it_o seem_v rather_o to_o point_v at_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o calamity_n which_o shall_v be_v such_o as_o if_o it_o be_v the_o day_n of_o judgement_n and_o dissolution_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n as_o it_o be_v usual_a in_o prophet_n to_o describe_v great_a calamity_n so_o isa_n 34.4_o and_o that_o it_o shall_v lo_o change_v the_o order_n and_o condition_n of_o the_o creature_n as_o man_n shall_v have_v no_o quiet_a in_o they_o or_o consolation_n by_o they_o more_o than_o if_o they_o hide_v themselves_o and_o their_o influence_n the_o sun_n moon_n and_o star_n shall_v be_v either_o hide_v by_o reason_n of_o their_o multitude_n or_o their_o light_n shall_v be_v as_o uncomfortable_a as_o if_o it_o be_v dark_a and_o serve_v only_a to_o let_v man_n see_v their_o calamity_n and_o their_o influence_n shall_v be_v make_v void_a by_o the_o destruction_n of_o whatsoever_o they_o produce_v doct._n 1._o time_n of_o calamity_n for_o sin_n serve_v to_o show_v how_o unworthy_a man_n be_v of_o the_o earth_n for_o a_o habitation_n to_o he_o or_o of_o heaven_n to_o cover_v he_o and_o to_o show_v what_o a_o disturber_n he_o be_v of_o the_o whole_a creation_n so_o much_o be_v point_v out_o by_o the_o earth_n quake_v and_o heaven_n tremble_v 2._o whatever_o may_v be_v the_o issue_n of_o particular_a calamity_n yet_o they_o serve_v to_o put_v sinner_n in_o mind_n of_o a_o day_n of_o judgement_n and_o dissolution_n of_o all_o thing_n wherein_o they_o will_v not_o escape_v however_o they_o wrestle_v through_o temporal_a judgement_n therefore_o also_o be_v this_o calamity_n thus_o describe_v 3._o time_n of_o calamity_n will_v make_v a_o strange_a shake_n and_o overturning_a of_o delight_n which_o seem_v to_o be_v very_o settle_v even_o as_o heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o which_o seem_v to_o be_v of_o constant_a continuance_n as_o the_o sun_n moon_n and_o star_n their_o light_n and_o influence_n be_v 4._o all_o create_v comfort_n and_o what_o man_n rest_v on_o beside_o god_n will_v fail_v a_o sinner_n when_o god_n plead_v with_o he_o for_o neither_o earth_n nor_o heaven_n nor_o sun_n moon_n nor_o star_n will_v give_v quiet_a or_o comfort_n to_o he_o they_o will_v quake_v and_o tremble_v and_o be_v dark_a and_o withdraw_v their_o shine_a ver._n 11._o and_o the_o lord_n shall_v utter_v his_o voice_n before_o his_o army_n for_o his_o camp_n be_v very_o great_a for_o he_o be_v strong_a that_o execute_v his_o word_n for_o the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v great_a and_o very_o terrible_a and_o who_o can_v abide_v it_o the_o last_o branch_n of_o the_o description_n which_o be_v by_o way_n of_o conclusion_n show_v that_o all_o this_o dreadfulness_n and_o success_n of_o these_o creature_n be_v of_o god_n who_o will_v make_v it_o manifest_a that_o they_o fight_v under_o his_o banner_n as_o general_n who_o give_v they_o the_o word_n to_o encourage_v they_o and_o to_o fall_v on_o upon_o his_o enemy_n and_o that_o they_o be_v so_o strong_a because_o they_o execute_v vengeance_n in_o his_o name_n according_a to_o his_o threaten_n against_o they_o who_o provoke_v he_o and_o they_o shall_v demonstrate_v his_o power_n and_o terror_n which_o none_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o resist_v whence_o learn_v 1._o judgement_n will_v be_v then_o right_o see_v for_o our_o use_n when_o the_o lord_n be_v see_v in_o they_o as_o chief_a and_o as_o employ_v all_o instrument_n therefore_o be_v the_o description_n close_v with_o this_o that_o the_o lord_n be_v general_n of_o this_o army_n 2._o when_o the_o lord_n people_n will_v not_o hear_v his_o voice_n he_o be_v provoke_v to_o speak_v against_o they_o as_o a_o enemy_n attend_v with_o instrument_n of_o vengeance_n excite_v by_o he_o for_o the_o lord_n shall_v utter_v his_o voice_n before_o his_o army_n the_o speech_n may_v relate_v to_o a_o voice_n of_o thunder_n psal_n 18.13_o or_o to_o the_o dreadful_a noise_n make_v by_o these_o creature_n intimate_v that_o he_o send_v they_o out_o to_o do_v execution_n or_o it_o may_v be_v understand_v simple_o that_o as_o a_o general_n on_o the_o head_n of_o his_o army_n encourage_v his_o soldier_n and_o exhort_v and_o command_v they_o to_o fall_v on_o so_o the_o lord_n will_v animate_v this_o his_o army_n and_o send_v they_o out_o with_o fury_n 3._o albeit_o the_o church_n that_o shall_v be_v for_o god_n will_v not_o only_o lie_v by_o but_o provoke_v he_o to_o be_v a_o enemy_n yea_o albeit_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o man_n to_o appear_v in_o his_o quarrel_n yet_o he_o can_v easy_o when_o he_o please_v raise_v a_o numerous_a and_o strong_a army_n beseem_v such_o a_o general_n therefore_o it_o be_v add_v for_o his_o camp_n be_v very_o great_a so_o as_o he_o may_v own_v they_o for_o his_o army_n and_o send_v they_o out_o on_o service_n 4._o the_o strength_n of_o any_o instrument_n of_o vengeance_n and_o their_o success_n be_v to_o be_v ascribe_v to_o god_n who_o be_v so_o nuchangeable_a in_o his_o holy_a justice_n as_o he_o will_v execute_v his_o threaten_n against_o the_o impenitent_a and_o who_o be_v omnipotent_a so_o to_o do_v by_o any_o instrument_n he_o please_v for_o it_o be_v a_o reason_n of_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o army_n for_o he_o be_v strong_a that_o execute_v his_o word_n 5._o divine_a wrath_n will_v be_v find_v intolerable_a when_o it_o come_v to_o be_v execute_v and_o
of_o this_o sentence_n and_o command_v give_v to_o the_o executioner_n be_v that_o there_o shall_v be_v great_a execution_n make_v of_o the_o enemy_n and_o they_o shall_v fall_v without_o number_n and_o for_o the_o church_n great_a comfort_n it_o be_v declare_v that_o this_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n vengeance_n be_v near_o not_o when_o the_o prophet_n speak_v this_o but_o it_o shall_v speedy_o come_v after_o the_o enemy_n great_a preparation_n against_o the_o church_n the_o place_n of_o this_o execution_n be_v call_v the_o valley_n of_o decision_n or_o thresh_v which_o be_v the_o same_o with_o the_o valley_n of_o jehoshaphat_n v._o 2_o 12._o and_o it_o get_v this_o new_a name_n because_o there_o the_o lord_n will_v make_v a_o great_a havoke_v of_o enemy_n which_o be_v usual_o express_v by_o thresh_v mic._n 4.13_o isa_n 41.15_o 2_o king_n 13.7_o or_o because_o it_o be_v the_o valley_n determine_v and_o appoint_v as_o the_o word_n will_v signify_v wherein_o to_o do_v this_o execution_n or_o the_o place_n wherein_o god_n will_v decide_v this_o great_a controversy_n betwixt_o he_o and_o his_o church_n on_o the_o one_o part_n and_o these_o enemy_n on_o the_o other_o doct._n 1_o albeit_o it_o may_v be_v matter_n of_o admiration_n and_o terror_n to_o the_o church_n to_o see_v so_o great_a and_o so_o many_o enemy_n combine_v against_o she_o yet_o god_n shall_v make_v that_o resolve_n in_o as_o great_a a_o wonder_n to_o see_v the_o great_a havoke_v make_v of_o they_o therefore_o be_v it_o hold_v out_o by_o way_n of_o admiration_n multitude_n multitude_n in_o the_o valley_n of_o decision_n 2._o god_n will_v at_o last_o decide_v the_o controversy_n betwixt_o the_o church_n and_o especial_o of_o israel_n and_o her_o enemy_n and_o will_v determine_v the_o question_n by_o make_v many_o a_o skin_n pay_v for_o it_o for_o the_o valley_n of_o jehoshaphat_n will_v be_v also_o the_o valley_n of_o decision_n and_o there_o multitude_n multitude_n shall_v be_v lay_v in_o the_o dust_n 3._o when_o enemy_n be_v at_o the_o height_n of_o their_o attempt_n especial_o against_o convert_a israel_n than_o the_o lord_n people_n may_v expect_v that_o he_o will_v not_o be_v long_o in_o take_v his_o day_n about_o of_o they_o wherein_o his_o glory_n will_v shine_v for_o the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v near_o in_o the_o valley_n of_o decision_n verse_n 15._o the_o sun_n and_o the_o moon_n shall_v be_v darken_v and_o the_o star_n shall_v withdraw_v their_o shine_a this_o execution_n be_v further_o amplify_v that_o as_o the_o church_n have_v feel_v before_o in_o her_o calamity_n chap._n 2.10_o so_fw-ge the_o enemy_n shall_v at_o that_o time_n of_o their_o extremity_n be_v deny_v all_o comfort_n in_o the_o creature_n from_o heaven_n or_o earth_n and_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v great_a alteration_n in_o the_o world_n of_o which_o more_o v._o 16._o if_o not_o also_o the_o extraordinary_a sign_n of_o eclipse_n and_o darkness_n presage_v and_o accompany_v the_o same_o doct._n 1._o though_o enemy_n may_v be_v insult_a when_o the_o church_n be_v in_o great_a bitterness_n yet_o the_o day_n may_v and_o will_v come_v about_o wherein_o they_o shall_v drink_v of_o her_o cup_n if_o not_o of_o a_o worse_o for_o what_o be_v denounce_v against_o the_o church_n ch_n 2.10_o be_v now_o make_v their_o portion_n 2._o whatever_o be_v the_o delight_n and_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n enemy_n yet_o when_o he_o begin_v to_o reckon_v with_o they_o all_o their_o comfort_n and_o refuge_n from_o heaven_n or_o earth_n will_v fail_v they_o and_o all_o thing_n will_v frown_v and_o lower_v upon_o they_o for_o so_o much_o be_v import_v in_o that_o the_o sun_n and_o moon_n shall_v be_v darken_v etc._n etc._n these_o creature_n shall_v deny_v they_o light_n and_o comfort_n and_o this_o shall_v make_v all_o thing_n dark_a on_o earth_n to_o they_o and_o these_o dreadful_a sight_n shall_v terrify_v they_o verse_n 16._o the_o lord_z shall_v also_o roar_v out_o of_o zion_n and_o utter_v his_o voice_n from_o jerusalem_n and_o the_o heaven_n and_o the_o earth_n shall_v shake_v but_o the_o lord_n will_v be_v the_o hope_n of_o his_o people_n and_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n follow_v a_o comfortable_a application_n of_o all_o this_o to_o the_o church_n and_o particular_o to_o israel_n hold_v forth_o in_o several_a promise_n what_o mercy_n to_o they_o shall_v be_v in_o their_o recollection_n of_o which_o v._o 1._o and_o in_o this_o streak_n on_o their_o enemy_n and_o what_o sweet_a consequent_n shall_v follow_v thereupon_o the_o first_o promise_n be_v that_o when_o the_o lord_n shall_v manifest_v himself_o thus_o terrible_o against_o their_o enemy_n according_a to_o the_o prediction_n of_o his_o word_n and_o out_o of_o his_o love_n to_o his_o people_n and_o when_o he_o shall_v make_v great_a alteration_n thereby_o which_o be_v a_o further_a amplification_n of_o the_o calamity_n which_o be_v to_o come_v manifest_v himself_o against_o his_o church_n enemy_n and_o special_o against_o israel_n adversary_n he_o will_v be_v very_o terrible_a and_o dreadful_a and_o his_o be_v a_o party_n will_v make_v all_o the_o creature_n to_o deny_v comfort_n and_o will_v add_v to_o the_o bitterness_n and_o terror_n of_o such_o a_o desolate_a condition_n for_o the_o lord_n shall_v roar_v like_o a_o lion_n see_v zeph._n 2.11_o isa_n 42.13_o 14._o and_o beside_o their_o desolate_a condition_n v._o 15._o the_o lord_n also_o shall_v roar_v to_o embitter_v that_o and_o as_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o as_o be_v after_o clear_v of_o the_o shake_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n 2._o god_n execute_v of_o vengeance_n will_v be_v according_a to_o the_o prediction_n utter_v in_o the_o church_n and_o these_o will_v be_v find_v terrible_a in_o execution_n what_o ever_o man_n think_v of_o they_o before_o for_o the_o lord_n shall_v roar_v out_o of_o zion_n and_o utter_v his_o voice_n from_o jerusalem_n import_v that_o god_n from_o out_o of_o zion_n have_v speak_v against_o they_o by_o his_o word_n and_o that_o now_o his_o speech_n go_v forth_o in_o execution_n shall_v be_v find_v terrible_a as_o the_o roar_n of_o a_o lion_n 3._o god_n will_v make_v his_o presence_n with_o and_o love_n to_o his_o people_n conspicuous_a by_o his_o indignation_n and_o severity_n against_o their_o enemy_n for_o the_o lord_n shall_v roar_v out_o of_o zion_n etc._n etc._n import_v also_o that_o he_o be_v present_a there_o and_o that_o he_o evidence_v his_o respect_n to_o his_o habitation_n by_o his_o dreadful_a thundering_n against_o the_o enemy_n thereof_o 4._o as_o god_n be_v powerful_a to_o overturn_v heaven_n and_o earth_n when_o he_o please_v so_o his_o subdue_a of_o enemy_n may_v bring_v great_a alteration_n and_o overturning_n in_o the_o world_n for_o when_o he_o shall_v roar_v the_o heaven_n and_o the_o earth_n shall_v shake_v which_o together_o with_o what_o be_v say_v v._o 15._o make_v a_o complete_a parallel_n with_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o church_n chap._n 2.10_o and_o it_o import_v such_o a_o alteration_n of_o affair_n as_o if_o there_o be_v a_o dissolution_n of_o the_o world_n and_o overturning_a of_o the_o course_n of_o nature_n and_o it_o be_v no_o wonder_n if_o they_o who_o be_v so_o well_o root_v in_o the_o world_n cause_v it_o to_o shake_v before_o they_o be_v cast_v out_o of_o it_o and_o if_o they_o who_o be_v so_o universal_o spread_v through_o the_o earth_n need_v general_a commotion_n to_o make_v they_o miserable_a 5._o when_o god_n be_v shake_v the_o earth_n to_o overturn_v enemy_n god_n people_n may_v be_v exercise_v with_o many_o fear_n and_o apprehension_n that_o the_o storm_n will_v break_v upon_o they_o therefore_o they_o need_v a_o promise_n to_o secure_v they_o against_o this_o 6._o nothing_o will_v be_v able_a to_o secure_v the_o heart_n of_o god_n people_n against_o the_o terror_n of_o a_o time_n of_o great_a commotion_n but_o god_n only_o and_o what_o they_o find_v in_o he_o and_o from_o he_o therefore_o do_v the_o promise_n remit_v they_o to_o what_o the_o lord_n will_v be_v unto_o they_o 7._o in_o time_n of_o great_a confusion_n the_o lord_n people_n may_v expect_v that_o he_o will_v be_v a_o place_n of_o refuge_n to_o hide_v they_o in_o that_o he_o will_v furnish_v they_o who_o come_v to_o he_o with_o ground_n of_o hope_n for_o the_o future_a and_o with_o strength_n and_o courage_n to_o bear_v out_o till_o the_o accomplishment_n come_v for_o that_o which_o be_v propound_v here_o iâ—_n hope_n or_o a_o refuge_n and_o strength_n and_o god_n undertake_v not_o to_o disappoint_v they_o of_o these_o the_o lord_n will_v be_v the_o hope_n of_o his_o people_n etc._n etc._n he_o
will_v take_v they_o under_o his_o protection_n he_o will_v let_v they_o see_v ground_n of_o hope_n in_o himself_o and_o furnish_v they_o with_o hope_n to_o lay_v hold_n on_o it_o and_o with_o strength_n to_o bear_v they_o out_o 8._o what_o the_o lord_n have_v be_v or_o will_v be_v at_o any_o time_n to_o his_o people_n israel_n in_o perform_v spiritual_a promise_n that_o he_o will_v be_v the_o dark_a and_o ignorant_a of_o this_o calamity_n till_o it_o come_v but_o chief_o it_o teach_v that_o when_o calamity_n come_v such_o as_o have_v be_v seducer_n and_o soother_n up_o of_o other_o tribe_n stay_v still_o in_o israel_n because_o of_o their_o inheritance_n as_o against_o jeroboam_n priest_n who_o whatever_o they_o be_v before_o god_n yet_o since_o they_o take_v the_o name_n and_o office_n on_o they_o the_o lord_n threaten_v they_o for_o not_o walk_v answerable_o this_o article_n have_v several_a branch_n in_o the_o first_o whereof_o he_o reprehend_v they_o for_o the_o ignorance_n of_o the_o people_n occasion_v through_o their_o negligence_n and_o their_o reject_v and_o slight_v of_o the_o mean_n of_o knowledge_n which_o may_v enable_v they_o to_o teach_v other_o for_o which_o he_o threaten_v to_o cast_v they_o out_o of_o the_o office_n they_o seem_v to_o have_v and_o to_o reject_v their_o posterity_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o exceed_v they_o whence_o as_o unsavoury_a salt_n with_o much_o guilt_n which_o be_v a_o sad_a judgement_n service_n to_o such_o a_o master_n be_v honourable_a and_o especial_o to_o minister_v to_o he_o in_o holy_a thing_n for_o it_o be_v his_o sentence_n i_o will_v also_o reject_v thou_o that_o thou_o shall_v be_v no_o priest_n to_o i_o to_o wit_n as_o they_o pretend_v they_o be_v however_o man_n may_v spare_v such_o who_o by_o neglect_v duty_n prove_v that_o they_o keep_v the_o office_n injust_o yet_o god_n will_v not_o 7._o however_o the_o posterity_n of_o godly_a minister_n may_v ofttimes_o meet_v with_o hard_a measure_n from_o a_o ingrate_a world_n as_o well_o as_o minister_n themselves_o yet_o it_o be_v the_o righteous_a judgement_n of_o god_n on_o unfaithful_a minister_n that_o as_o they_o neglect_v and_o forget_v god_n child_n commit_v to_o their_o charge_n so_o god_n suffer_v their_o posterity_n to_o be_v neglect_v for_o i_o will_v also_o forget_v thy_o child_n who_o it_o seem_v succeed_v to_o they_o in_o imitation_n of_o the_o order_n establish_v by_o god_n in_o aaron_n family_n ver._n 7._o as_o they_o be_v increase_v so_o they_o sin_v against_o i_o therefore_o will_v i_o change_v their_o glory_n into_o shame_n in_o the_o second_o branch_n of_o this_o article_n the_o lord_n accuse_v they_o of_o ingratitude_n that_o the_o more_o they_o prosper_v or_o increase_v in_o number_n or_o glory_n they_o be_v the_o more_o bold_a on_o sin_n therefore_o he_o threaten_v they_o with_o ignominy_n to_o come_v in_o place_n of_o that_o glory_n which_o make_v they_o to_o miscarry_v so_o far_o whence_o learn_v 1._o such_o as_o do_v provoke_v god_n high_o may_v yet_o in_o his_o long-suffering_a patience_n not_o
only_o continue_v as_o they_o be_v but_o increase_n in_o prosperity_n issue_n and_o glory_n for_o a_o time_n for_o they_o be_v increase_v 2._o as_o there_o be_v no_o outward_a mercy_n confer_v on_o wicked_a or_o unrenewed_a man_n but_o they_o do_v make_v it_o a_o snare_n to_o draw_v they_o to_o sin_n and_o harden_v they_o in_o it_o so_o this_o abuse_n of_o god_n goodness_n do_v aggravate_v sin_n exceed_o for_o it_o be_v a_o challenge_n that_o as_o they_o be_v increase_v so_o they_o sin_v against_o i_o 3._o any_o glory_n or_o splendour_n which_o man_n abuse_v to_o harden_v themselves_o in_o sin_n neglect_v that_o which_o be_v their_o true_a honour_n will_v certain_o end_v in_o ignominy_n and_o especial_o when_o minister_n glory_v of_o worldly_a state_n or_o riches_n as_o their_o chief_a excellency_n neglect_v that_o true_a honour_n of_o be_v faithful_a in_o their_o station_n for_o therefore_o will_v i_o change_v their_o glory_n into_o shame_n ver._n 8._o they_o eat_v up_o the_o sin_n of_o my_o people_n and_o they_o set_v their_o heart_n on_o their_o iniquity_n in_o the_o three_o branch_n of_o this_o article_n they_o be_v accuse_v of_o monstrous_a greed_n and_o luxury_n neglect_v their_o duty_n they_o be_v so_o far_o from_o deter_v the_o people_n from_o sin_n or_o point_v out_o the_o true_a use_n and_o end_n of_o sacrifice_n when_o they_o come_v to_o offer_v for_o sin_n that_o they_o mind_v nothing_o but_o to_o fatten_v themselves_o with_o the_o portion_n of_o the_o sacrifice_n which_o fall_v to_o they_o and_o therefore_o they_o be_v desirous_a and_o glad_a to_o have_v the_o people_n fall_v in_o many_o sin_n that_o so_o they_o may_v get_v many_o sacrifice_n whereof_o to_o share_v whence_o learn_v 1._o albeit_o livelihood_n be_v due_a to_o faithful_a minister_n and_o they_o who_o serve_v at_o the_o altar_n shall_v live_v of_o the_o altar_n yet_o it_o be_v the_o fearful_a sin_n of_o minister_n when_o they_o mind_n only_o the_o benefit_n or_o profit_n of_o their_o call_n neglect_v the_o duty_n when_o they_o be_v so_o addict_v to_o their_o belly_n as_o they_o can_v flatter_v or_o be_v silent_a from_o reprove_v sin_n so_o they_o may_v gain_v and_o have_v to_o eat_v for_o this_o a_o challenge_n they_o eat_v up_o the_o sin_n or_o sacrifice_n for_o sin_n of_o my_o people_n call_v so_o as_o v._o 6._o and_o this_o be_v all_o they_o mind_n in_o that_o public_a service_n the_o speech_n allude_v to_o the_o law_n which_o the_o priest_n in_o israel_n do_v imitate_v wherein_o the_o priest_n get_v a_o portion_n of_o some_o sacrifice_n numb_a 18.8_o 9_o etc._n etc._n 2._o it_o be_v yet_o a_o more_o fearful_a iniquity_n when_o such_o as_o will_v be_v account_v minister_n not_o only_o care_v not_o for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o people_n commit_v to_o their_o charge_n but_o do_v desire_n and_o delight_n in_o it_o so_o it_o may_v tend_v to_o their_o gain_n and_o advantage_n for_o they_o set_v their_o heart_n on_o their_o iniquity_n or_o earnest_o long_a to_o have_v they_o sin_v that_o they_o may_v bring_v sacrifice_n to_o they_o in_o a_o word_n covetousness_n be_v the_o bain_n and_o cutthroat_n of_o religion_n and_o especial_o in_o churchman_n and_o when_o they_o stand_v upon_o nothing_o but_o gain_n ver._n 9_o and_o there_o shall_v be_v like_o people_n like_o priest_n and_o i_o will_v punish_v they_o for_o their_o way_n and_o reward_v they_o their_o do_n 10._o for_o they_o shall_v eat_v and_o not_o have_v enough_o they_o shall_v commit_v whoredom_n and_o shall_v not_o increase_v because_o they_o have_v leave_v off_o to_o take_v heed_n they_o have_v contemn_v and_o slight_v god_n he_o will_v take_v away_o the_o blessing_n from_o their_o meat_n and_o deprive_v they_o of_o issue_n even_o although_o that_o beside_o their_o wife_n will_v not_o excuse_v a_o people_n sin_n nor_o exempt_v they_o from_o judgement_n therefore_o be_v the_o people_n threaten_v also_o notwithstanding_o he_o challenge_v the_o priest_n the_o send_n of_o evil_a minister_n may_v be_v so_o much_o the_o fruit_n of_o people_n former_a sin_n and_o they_o may_v be_v so_o well_o satisfy_v with_o it_o jer._n 5.31_o as_o may_v just_o ripen_v they_o for_o a_o stroke_n 3._o as_o pastor_n and_o people_n be_v ordinary_o like_o other_o in_o sin_n and_o mutual_a plague_n each_o to_o other_o so_o will_v they_o be_v join_v together_o in_o judgement_n for_o we_o consider_v that_o preservation_n may_v portend_v much_o future_a good_a to_o be_v lay_v up_o for_o a_o people_n or_o for_o the_o elect_a among_o they_o as_o the_o lord_n here_o manifest_v afterward_o doct._n 5._o it_o be_v the_o great_a mercy_n and_o advantage_n of_o the_o lord_n sinful_a people_n that_o they_o have_v to_o do_v with_o god_n and_o not_o with_o man_n in_o their_o weep_v between_o the_o porch_n and_o the_o altar_n and_o let_v they_o say_v etc._n etc._n 2._o the_o humble_a penitent_n have_v no_o refuge_n leave_v he_o but_o god_n and_o his_o mercy_n only_o and_o he_o be_v allow_v to_o lay_v hold_n on_o this_o when_o he_o have_v no_o other_o claim_n for_o they_o be_v warrant_v to_o say_v spare_v o_o lord_n which_o be_v a_o act_n flow_v from_o mercy_n therefore_o be_v the_o child_n of_o zion_n call_v to_o it_o 2._o the_o lord_n must_v not_o only_o afford_v matter_n of_o joy_n and_o comfort_n to_o his_o people_n but_o must_v speak_v and_o apply_v dispose_n of_o they_o be_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o only_a wise_a lord_n 6._o promise_v mercy_n will_v not_o prove_v unuseful_a nor_o disappoint_v the_o expectation_n of_o penitent_n as_o the_o terror_n to_o the_o wicked_a for_o it_o be_v for_o these_o cause_v it_o get_v this_o name_n verse_n 32._o and_o it_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o whosoever_o shall_v call_v on_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n shall_v be_v deliver_v for_o in_o mount_n zion_n and_o in_o jerusalem_n shall_v be_v deliverance_n as_o the_o lord_n have_v say_v and_o in_o the_o remnant_n who_o the_o lord_n shall_v call_v to_o confirm_v the_o godly_a against_o these_o calamity_n he_o subjoin_v the_o three_o spiritual_a promise_n which_o be_v that_o all_o true_a israelite_n and_o convert_v of_o the_o gentile_n who_o cleave_v to_o god_n and_o worship_n he_o sincere_o shall_v find_v deliverance_n by_o preservation_n under_o trouble_n till_o they_o come_v to_o full_a deliverance_n and_o salvation_n at_o last_o this_o he_o confirm_v in_o a_o general_a promise_n that_o of_o the_o jew_n and_o gentile_n call_v of_o god_n there_o shall_v be_v deliverance_n according_a to_o god_n promise_n or_o some_o remnant_n to_o escape_v to_o preserve_v a_o people_n to_o god_n upon_o earth_n and_o at_o last_o to_o inherit_v salvation_n doct._n 1._o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o visible_a church_n or_o of_o the_o world_n never_o so_o deplorable_a and_o desperate_a yet_o it_o shall_v not_o drive_v man_n from_o god_n his_o truth_n and_o pure_a worship_n but_o rather_o make_v they_o cleave_v to_o it_o more_o and_o evidence_n this_o by_o frequent_a and_o earnest_a call_n on_o he_o for_o this_o be_v the_o duty_n require_v under_o these_o calamity_n to_o call_v on_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n under_o which_o be_v comprehend_v all_o outward_a and_o inward_a worship_n of_o god_n whereof_o this_o be_v a_o chief_a part_n and_o man_n cleave_v to_o it_o 2._o as_o god_n be_v able_a to_o save_v in_o great_a extremity_n so_o he_o will_v undoubted_o save_v and_o deliver_v they_o who_o cleave_v to_o he_o and_o seek_v he_o be_v of_o what_o nation_n or_o people_n they_o will_n he_o will_v either_o hide_v some_o of_o they_o from_o trouble_n in_o great_a tempest_n or_o preserve_v they_o under_o it_o till_o he_o give_v a_o issue_n from_o it_o here_o or_o hereafter_o and_o at_o last_o will_v complete_o save_v they_o for_o whosoever_o shall_v call_v on_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n shall_v be_v deliver_v or_o escape_v see_v rom._n 10.13_o 3._o the_o church_n be_v the_o place_n of_o great_a safety_n and_o where_o deliverance_n may_v most_o ready_o be_v expect_v of_o any_o and_o however_o it_o fare_v with_o particular_a person_n in_o time_n of_o commotion_n yet_o the_o lord_n will_v still_o preserve_v a_o church_n and_o remnant_n in_o the_o world_n yea_o even_o a_o remnant_n of_o jew_n till_o their_o full_a conversion_n the_o efore_o say_v he_o for_o in_o mount_n zion_n and_o in_o jerusalem_n shall_v he_o deliverance_n and_o in_o the_o remnant_n where_o he_o name_v zion_n and_o jerusalem_n not_o only_o as_o a_o type_n of_o the_o church_n wherein_o safety_n be_v to_o be_v find_v and_o the_o remnant_n be_v to_o be_v preserve_v but_o to_o point_v out_o that_o of_o the_o jew_n belong_v to_o these_o place_n he_o will_v keep_v still_o a_o remnant_n rom._n 11.5_o till_o that_o day_n come_v whereof_o he_o speak_v in_o the_o next_o chapter_n 4._o god_n have_v pass_v his_o word_n for_o the_o preservation_n of_o a_o remnant_n under_o trouble_n and_o this_o be_v to_o be_v trust_v to_o whatever_o our_o sense_n say_v to_o the_o contrary_a for_o say_v he_o there_o shall_v be_v deliverance_n as_o the_o lord_n have_v say_v frequent_o in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n 5._o as_o the_o true_a church_n be_v but_o a_o remnant_n in_o comparison_n of_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o world_n so_o time_n of_o trouble_n cut_v off_o some_o and_o tempt_a other_o to_o apostasy_n may_v draw_v they_o to_o a_o very_a small_a number_n who_o cleave_v to_o god_n and_o shall_v partake_v of_o promise_a salvation_n therefore_o it_o be_v add_v by_o way_n of_o explication_n that_o deliverance_n shall_v be_v in_o the_o remnant_n or_o among_o they_o though_o some_o of_o they_o escape_v not_o the_o stroke_n of_o trouble_n 6._o it_o be_v god_n effectual_a call_n and_o election_n of_o grace_n see_v god_n in_o calamity_n ascribe_v their_o own_o affliction_n to_o fortune_n or_o chance_n among_o the_o
with_o who_o they_o have_v to_o do_v who_o can_v err_v in_o what_o he_o say_v and_o who_o challenge_n and_o the_o effect_n thereof_o can_v be_v get_v shift_v therefore_o it_o be_v add_v they_o know_v not_o to_o do_v right_a say_v the_o lord_n 8._o oppression_n continue_v in_o be_v a_o great_a evidence_n of_o a_o people_n be_v under_o many_o spiritual_a plague_n and_o particular_o that_o they_o be_v voluntary_o blind_v and_o harden_v through_o custom_n in_o sin_n therefore_o be_v this_o challenge_v not_o only_o subjoin_v to_o the_o former_a of_o oppression_n and_o tumult_n to_o show_v from_o whence_o these_o evil_n flow_v but_o more_o express_o it_o be_v say_v they_o know_v not_o to_o do_v right_a who_o store_n up_o violence_n and_o robbery_n or_o good_n purchase_v by_o that_o mean_n 9_o much_o gain_n and_o heap_v up_o of_o wealth_n by_o oppression_n will_v not_o assoil_v the_o oppressor_n nor_o will_v man_n great_a state_n and_o pomp_n warrant_v they_o to_o oppress_v but_o will_v rather_o make_v their_o sin_n the_o more_o heinous_a consider_v how_o inconsistent_a in_o reason_n the_o one_o be_v with_o the_o other_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v great_a man_n have_v enough_o and_o yet_o be_v endless_a in_o oppression_n and_o that_o their_o stately_a palace_n shall_v be_v fill_v and_o defile_v with_o such_o ill_a purchase_n for_o it_o add_v to_o the_o challenge_n that_o they_o store_n up_o robbery_n and_o violence_n and_o that_o in_o their_o palace_n verse_n 11._o therefore_o thus_o say_v the_o lord_n god_n a_o adversary_n there_o shall_v be_v even_o round_o about_o the_o land_n and_o he_o shall_v bring_v down_o thy_o strength_n from_o thou_o and_o thy_o palace_n shall_v be_v spoil_v follow_v the_o lord_n sentence_n and_o threaten_a for_o these_o and_o other_o sin_n mention_v in_o the_o sentence_n itself_o the_o sentence_n have_v four_o branch_n whereof_o the_o first_o in_o this_o v._o be_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v surround_v they_o and_o their_o land_n with_o oppressor_n yet_o god_n be_v sufficient_a and_o able_a to_o reach_v they_o and_o be_v about_o with_o they_o therefore_o be_v this_o threaten_n against_o potent_a oppressor_n begin_v with_o thus_o say_v the_o lord_n god_n 2._o man_n be_v bind_v to_o see_v more_o in_o god_n quarrel_n and_o ofttimes_o another_o thing_n than_o what_o their_o enemy_n do_v pursue_v they_o for_o for_o the_o assyrian_n undertake_v this_o war_n only_o to_o punish_v hoshea_n rebellion_n 2_o king_n 17.4_o but_o the_o lord_n tell_v they_o that_o therefore_o because_o of_o their_o oppression_n and_o their_o idolatry_n of_o which_o afterward_o a_o adversary_n shall_v be_v about_o the_o land_n 3._o albeit_o man_n think_v they_o have_v many_o shift_n against_o a_o day_n of_o trouble_n yet_o god_n can_v and_o when_o he_o be_v provoke_v will_n easy_o surround_v they_o so_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o escape_v trouble_n and_o make_v they_o find_v few_o friend_n notwithstanding_o all_o their_o confederacy_n for_o a_o adversary_n there_o shall_v be_v even_o round_o about_o the_o land_n 4_o when_o god_n employ_v instrument_n of_o vengeance_n against_o his_o incorrigible_a people_n they_o will_v not_o only_o be_v able_a to_o threaten_v they_o on_o every_o hand_n with_o trouble_n at_o distance_n but_o also_o to_o be_v successful_a in_o their_o erterprise_n against_o they_o for_o the_o adversary_n shall_v not_o only_o be_v round_o about_o the_o land_n but_o shall_v come_v in_o upon_o they_o with_o success_n to_o break_v and_o spoil_v they_o 5._o a_o people_n power_n and_o strength_n or_o their_o wealth_n especial_o be_v ill_o purchase_v will_v not_o avail_v when_o god_n be_v angry_a but_o as_o strength_n will_v prove_v weak_a and_o be_v easy_o crush_v so_o their_o ill_a purchase_a wealth_n will_v but_o contribute_v to_o make_v god_n vengeance_n on_o they_o conspicuous_a in_o take_v it_o away_o it_o will_v make_v their_o lot_n under_o want_n more_o bitter_a than_o if_o they_o have_v never_o have_v wealth_n and_o it_o will_v leave_v the_o sting_n of_o a_o ill_a conscience_n behind_o it_o to_o embitter_v their_o want_n for_o he_o shall_v bring_v down_o thy_o strength_n from_o thou_o or_o despoil_v thou_o of_o power_n and_o lay_v thou_o low_o and_o thy_o palace_n where_o they_o heap_v up_o wealth_n v._o 10._o shall_v be_v spoil_v verse_n 12._o thus_o say_v the_o lord_n as_o the_o shepherd_n take_v out_o of_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o lion_n two_o leg_n or_o a_o piece_n of_o a_o ear_n so_o shall_v the_o child_n of_o israel_n be_v take_v out_o that_o dwell_v in_o samaria_n in_o the_o corner_n of_o a_o bed_n and_o in_o damascus_n in_o a_o couch_n the_o second_o branch_n of_o the_o sentence_n be_v that_o few_o shall_v escape_v in_o this_o judgement_n but_o as_o a_o lion_n have_v take_v his_o prey_n do_v eat_v till_o he_o be_v full_a and_o then_o go_v away_o and_o so_o the_o shepherd_n may_v recover_v a_o piece_n of_o a_o ear_n or_o two_o leg_n which_o he_o have_v leave_v so_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o very_a few_o of_o they_o leave_v who_o shall_v hide_v themselves_o in_o samaria_n lurk_v under_o or_o about_o bed_n as_o for_o that_o which_o follow_v and_o in_o damascus_n in_o a_o couch_n whether_o we_o understand_v it_o of_o the_o city_n of_o damascus_n in_o syria_n whither_o many_o shall_v flee_v as_o to_o friend_n and_o where_o they_o shall_v be_v seek_v out_o except_o such_o as_o escape_v by_o lurk_v in_o couch_n after_o the_o land_n of_o israel_n be_v subdue_v or_o of_o some_o street_n in_o samaria_n call_v damascus_n where_o man_n shall_v lurk_v in_o or_o under_o couch_n or_o whether_o we_o take_v the_o word_n appellative_o that_o they_o shall_v lurk_v in_o samaria_n in_o the_o corner_n of_o a_o bed_n may_v be_v understand_v that_o of_o all_o the_o nation_n of_o israel_n very_o few_o escape_v but_o either_o they_o fall_v by_o the_o sword_n or_o be_v carry_v into_o captivity_n doct._n 1._o god_n judgement_n and_o such_o as_o he_o employ_v to_o execute_v they_o will_v be_v terrible_a and_o irresistible_a till_o he_o have_v do_v all_o his_o work_n therefore_o it_o be_v declare_v that_o it_o
