time_n and_o when_o they_o be_v weak_a safe_o protect_v they_o by_o bridle_a enemy_n by_o his_o secret_a hand_n by_o make_v the_o church_n find_v favour_n in_o their_o eye_n or_o make_v their_o attempt_n as_o ineffectual_a as_o if_o they_o will_v essay_n to_o go_v through_o a_o fire_n and_o even_o when_o his_o church_n taste_v of_o trouble_n yet_o she_o be_v not_o seclude_v from_o his_o protection_n nor_o expose_v to_o the_o will_n of_o enemy_n and_o what_o they_o do_v against_o she_o shall_v be_v as_o prejudicial_a to_o they_o as_o if_o they_o have_v go_v through_o a_o burn_a fire_n i_o say_v the_o lord_n will_v be_v unto_o she_o a_o wall_n of_o fire_n round_o about_o do_v import_v all_o this_o 3._o as_o the_o lord_n presence_n with_o and_o among_o a_o people_n be_v their_o where_o they_o have_v power_n and_o be_v encourage_v by_o the_o growth_n of_o piety_n and_o be_v encouragement_n to_o such_o as_o incline_v that_o way_n for_o that_o shall_v be_v the_o governors_n refreshment_n that_o their_o people_n be_v reconcile_v to_o god_n 4._o it_o be_v a_o great_a evidence_n of_o piety_n when_o any_o be_v full_o persuade_v of_o the_o truth_n they_o receive_v and_o general_o assent_v to_o when_o truth_n be_v not_o receive_v in_o a_o fleet_a superficial_a way_n but_o root_v in_o the_o heart_n so_o that_o what_o they_o say_v they_o say_v it_o in_o their_o heart_n 5._o a_o people_n reconcile_v unto_o god_n be_v the_o great_a strength_n of_o a_o kingdom_n or_o nation_n and_o they_o will_v prove_v help_n to_o it_o indeed_o how_o contemptible_a soever_o they_o seem_v to_o be_v for_o so_o shall_v these_o governor_n reckon_v the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n shall_v be_v my_o strength_n in_o the_o lord_n etc._n etc._n 6._o whatever_o good_a may_v be_v expect_v of_o a_o holy_a people_n be_v not_o to_o be_v expect_v from_o any_o inherent_a worth_n or_o holiness_n in_o they_o but_o from_o god_n free_a favour_n towards_o they_o and_o with_o much_o convert_v as_o a_o nation_n doct._n 1._o faith_n and_o hope_n in_o god_n will_v never_o be_v ashamed_a but_o these_o who_o promise_v themselves_o much_o good_a in_o god_n shall_v find_v it_o so_o for_o the_o governor_n of_o judah_n who_o expect_v strength_n in_o god_n v._o 5._o do_v get_v what_o they_o expect_v and_o be_v make_v like_o a_o hearth_n of_o fire_n etc._n etc._n 2._o enemy_n of_o the_o church_n may_v expect_v to_o be_v destroy_v by_o their_o own_o assault_n and_o enterprise_n against_o she_o for_o their_o come_n to_o smother_v or_o extinguish_v she_o be_v cast_v of_o wood_n right_a hand_n and_o on_o the_o left_a which_o do_v not_o point_n at_o the_o church_n cruelty_n but_o at_o the_o way_n of_o enemy_n be_v ruin_v 4._o no_o opposition_n make_v unto_o the_o church_n will_v be_v able_a to_o make_v any_o promise_n give_v unto_o she_o or_o gracious_a purpose_n of_o god_n concern_v she_o ineffectual_a for_o notwithstanding_o all_o their_o enemy_n or_o war_n and_o make_v a_o good_a life_n for_o themselves_o in_o a_o ill_a time_n and_o let_v god_n work_v lie_v in_o the_o dust_n as_o that_o they_o can_v do_v nothing_o for_o nor_o be_v sensible_a of_o nor_o challenge_v for_o any_o neglect_n about_o it_o this_o be_v import_v in_o that_o pinch_a question_n be_v it_o time_n for_o you_o o_o you_o to_o dwell_v in_o your_o siel_v house_n and_o this_o house_n lie_v waste_v that_o be_v can_v you_o find_v a_o time_n and_o opportunity_n to_o raise_v yourselves_o to_o such_o state_n who_o be_v poor_a crawl_a worm_n and_o yet_o find_v none_o so_o much_o as_o to_o raise_v the_o house_n of_o the_o great_a god_n out_o of_o the_o ruin_n thereof_o and_o not_o be_v challenge_v 5._o a_o people_n sinful_a negligence_n in_o god_n matter_n especial_o have_v receive_v many_o favour_n from_o he_o though_o time_n be_v never_o so_o perilous_a render_v they_o contemptible_a whatever_o their_o privilege_n be_v and_o provoke_v god_n to_o bring_v they_o down_o to_o know_v themselves_o better_a therefore_o he_o style_v they_o this_o not_o my_o people_n and_o o_o you_o to_o wit_n base_a worm_n for_o who_o i_o have_v do_v so_o much_o 6._o as_o god_n will_v the_o substance_n of_o religion_n formality_n may_v make_v great_a show_n of_o little_a and_o most_o noise_n about_o that_o which_o be_v to_o least_o purpose_n 2._o much_o unbelief_n appear_v here_o for_o in_o that_o they_o inquire_v about_o omit_v this_o fast_a only_a they_o insinuate_v that_o they_o doubt_v of_o remove_v their_o other_o calamity_n for_o which_o they_o fast_v also_o as_o we_o will_v hear_v afterward_o and_o so_o go_v no_o further_o than_o their_o sense_n yea_o in_o question_v about_o this_o same_o they_o insinuate_v their_o doubt_n that_o the_o temple_n shall_v be_v perfect_v unbelief_n will_v receive_v or_o expect_v no_o more_o than_o it_o see_v and_o so_o breed_v we_o much_o vex_a exercise_n 3._o much_o ostentation_n that_o they_o have_v do_v it_o so_o long_o for_o so_o many_o year_n which_o now_o they_o look_v upon_o as_o somewhat_o when_o the_o work_n be_v go_v on_o when_o the_o lord_n bless_v any_o work_n that_o we_o have_v be_v use_v endeavour_n about_o our_o heart_n be_v then_o very_o ready_a to_o think_v much_o of_o our_o do_v 4._o much_o unsafe_a walk_v have_v no_o ground_n of_o their_o doubt_n but_o their_o old_a custom_n shall_v i_o weep_v as_o i_o have_v do_v these_o so_o many_o year_n how_o small_a ground_n and_o warrant_v soever_o there_o be_v of_o this_o their_o fast_n yet_o many_o have_v no_o better_o than_o custom_n and_o education_n for_o their_o ground_n in_o follow_v the_o true_a religion_n which_o make_v very_o unsure_a work_n 5._o that_o they_o now_o think_v of_o lay_v aside_o this_o duty_n whatever_o warrant_v they_o have_v for_o it_o of_o which_o they_o do_v not_o doubt_v noâ—_n inquire_v concern_v it_o betray_v partly_o how_o ready_a man_n heart_n be_v to_o weary_a of_o duty_n especial_o if_o they_o be_v day_n then_o on_o another_o as_o they_o choose_v the_o very_a day_n of_o their_o great_a calamity_n for_o their_o fast_n as_o if_o the_o time_n shall_v have_v influence_n on_o the_o work_n all_o these_o be_v to_o encroach_v upon_o the_o prerogative_n of_o god_n and_o far_o less_o be_v it_o now_o lawful_a to_o fix_v such_o anniversary_n day_n either_o for_o fast_v or_o thanksgiving_n see_v
