〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d must_v be_v translate_v rather_o concern_v election_n then_o according_a to_o election_n i_o take_v to_o be_v this_o viz._n that_o the_o purpose_n of_o god_n concern_v justification_n may_v stand_v etc._n etc._n for_o i_o take_v this_o election_n to_o be_v a_o act_n of_o god_n perform_v or_o do_v in_o time_n upon_o man_n in_o real_a be_v and_o that_o this_o election_n be_v glorification_n but_o to_o justification_n for_o election_n be_v a_o word_n which_o signify_v only_o the_o act_n of_o elect_v but_o the_o author_n of_o the_o election_n and_o the_o thing_n or_o person_n elect_v and_o that_o to_o which_o they_o be_v elect_v be_v to_o be_v gather_v from_o the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o place_n and_o from_o the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o place_n i_o gather_v that_o this_o election_n be_v immediate_o not_o to_o glory_n or_o glorification_n but_o to_o justification_n for_o justification_n have_v be_v in_o a_o manner_n the_o only_a subject_n of_o the_o doctrinal_a part_n of_o the_o apostle_n discourse_v hitherto_o and_o of_o justification_n do_v he_o speak_v in_o this_o chapter_n and_o he_o conclude_v therewith_o and_o therewith_o do_v he_o begin_v and_o prosecute_v the_o chapter_n follow_v and_o that_o the_o election_n which_o the_o apostle_n here_o speak_v of_o viz._n rom._n 9.11_o be_v immediate_o to_o the_o same_o thing_n to_o which_o that_o election_n be_v which_o he_o speak_v of_o in_o the_o eleven_o chapter_n of_o this_o epistle_n and_o the_o five_o verse_n i_o think_v no_o man_n do_v so_o much_o as_o doubt_v but_o that_o that_o election_n can_v be_v understand_v of_o a_o election_n immediate_o to_o eternal_a glory_n but_o of_o a_o election_n immediate_o to_o justification_n may_v be_v easy_o and_o apparent_o gather_v from_o that_o place_n and_o the_o context_n thereof_o for_o the_o apostle_n call_v that_o election_n a_o election_n of_o grace_n add_v this_o verse_n 6._o and_o if_o by_o grace_n than_o it_o be_v no_o more_o of_o work_n otherwise_o grace_n be_v no_o more_o grace_n but_o if_o it_o be_v of_o work_n than_o it_o be_v no_o more_o grace_n otherwise_o work_n be_v no_o more_o work_n where_o he_o show_v that_o that_o thing_n to_o which_o that_o election_n be_v immediate_o be_v so_o due_a to_o work_n as_o that_o there_o be_v no_o grace_n or_o favour_n at_o all_o requisite_a to_o his_o obtain_n of_o it_o keep_v it_o only_o in_o outward_a appearance_n for_o when_o man_n can_v see_v to_o the_o heart_n and_o to_o the_o thought_n and_o intention_n but_o only_o to_o the_o outward_a appearance_n of_o action_n he_o can_v condemn_v he_o who_o in_o outward_a appearance_n have_v keep_v the_o law_n though_o inward_o he_o have_v break_v it_o in_o every_o point_n but_o he_o that_o can_v just_o glory_v major_a and_o minor_a proposition_n of_o this_o syllogism_n the_o apostle_n have_v here_o set_v down_o in_o this_o verse_n but_o not_o so_o but_o that_o we_o must_v understand_v something_o of_o the_o major_a proposition_n from_o the_o minor_a and_o something_o of_o the_o minor_a proposition_n from_o the_o major_a the_o conclusion_n be_v total_o leave_v to_o be_v understand_v if_o abraham_n be_v justify_v by_o work_n he_o have_v whereof_o to_o glory_v this_o be_v the_o major_a proposition_n which_o i_o speak_v of_o and_o this_o be_v defective_a in_o its_o word_n and_o the_o defect_n be_v to_o be_v make_v up_o from_o that_o which_o we_o have_v in_o this_o verse_n of_o the_o minor_a proposition_n namely_o from_o that_o but_o not_o before_o god_n from_o which_o word_n we_o make_v the_o major_a proposition_n entire_a thus_o if_o abraham_n be_v justify_v by_o work_n he_o have_v whereof_o to_o glory_n even_o before_o god_n but_o not_o before_o god_n this_n be_v the_o minor_a conceive_v that_o they_o be_v put_v here_o to_o signify_v a_o appearance_n only_o though_o the_o jew_n may_v think_v that_o when_o they_o seek_v righteousness_n by_o the_o law_n as_o they_o do_v they_o seek_v it_o true_o and_o as_o they_o ought_v to_o seek_v it_o they_o that_o true_o seek_v justification_n or_o righteousness_n for_o these_o two_o word_n signify_v both_o one_o and_o the_o same_o thing_n by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n they_o must_v so_o keep_v the_o law_n as_o that_o they_o never_o break_v it_o at_o any_o time_n no_o not_o in_o the_o least_o tittle_n thereof_o for_o if_o they_o break_v it_o in_o the_o least_o tittle_n thereof_o they_o be_v curse_v by_o the_o law_n galath_n 3.10_o and_o therefore_o such_o can_v never_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n now_o the_o jew_n have_v sin_v every_o one_o of_o they_o and_o now_o have_v once_o sin_v they_o can_v not_o real_o and_o true_o and_o according_a to_o knowledge_n seek_v for_o justification_n righteousness_n by_o faith_n the_o reason_n why_o the_o jew_n do_v not_o seek_v after_o righteousness_n by_o faith_n be_v that_o they_o be_v offend_v at_o christ_n by_o the_o faith_n of_o who_o only_o justification_n be_v to_o be_v have_v and_o reject_v he_o and_o evil_o entreat_v he_o to_o their_o own_o hurt_n and_o ruin_n by_o bring_v a_o sin_n upon_o their_o head_n and_o put_v away_o from_o stumble_v at_o the_o stumble_a stone_n by_o this_o stumble_a block_n or_o stumble_a stone_n be_v mean_v christ_n who_o be_v here_o call_v and_o liken_v to_o a_o stumble_a block_n or_o stumble_a stone_n because_o as_o a_o man_n who_o in_o the_o way_n which_o he_o go_v stumble_v at_o a_o stone_n or_o a_o block_n which_o lie_v in_o his_o way_n come_v to_o hurt_v so_o do_v the_o jew_n stumble_v as_o it_o be_v at_o christ_n while_o they_o walk_v after_o justification_n get_v hurt_v thereby_o while_o they_o be_v offend_v at_o he_o and_o reject_v he_o as_o though_o he_o be_v a_o impostor_n be_v call_v also_o a_o foundation_n because_o he_o be_v the_o chief_a of_o they_o which_o believe_v in_o jerusalem_n that_o jerusalem_n shall_v not_o be_v destroy_v by_o the_o assyrian_n but_o save_v by_o the_o lord_n from_o be_v destroy_v by_o they_o and_o be_v by_o his_o example_n and_o counsel_n a_o inducement_n also_o to_o other_o to_o believe_v and_o to_o stand_v fast_o and_o strong_a in_o their_o belief_n for_o as_o a_o company_n of_o man_n knit_v or_o combine_v together_o in_o one_o be_v liken_v sometime_o to_o a_o natural_a body_n and_o the_o chief_a of_o they_o to_o the_o head_n of_o that_o body_n so_o be_v they_o sometime_o liken_v to_o a_o house_n and_o the_o chief_a of_o they_o to_o the_o foundation_n of_o that_o house_n and_o thus_o may_v hezekiah_n also_o be_v liken_v to_o the_o foundation_n of_o a_o house_n because_o he_o be_v the_o chief_a of_o those_o believer_n which_o be_v in_o jerusalem_n when_o the_o assyrian_n waste_v the_o land_n of_o judah_n
