abram_n must_v needs_o testify_v and_o approve_v the_o priesthood_n of_o melchisedech_n and_o therefore_o we_o see_v why_o the_o apostle_n compare_v the_o ancient_a priesthood_n of_o the_o law_n with_o the_o priesthood_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n say_v 7.9.10_o hebr._n 7.9.10_o that_o levy_n which_o be_v yet_o in_o abraham_n loin_n pay_v tithe_n that_o be_v to_o say_v be_v subject_a to_o that_o law_n we_o may_v also_o allege_v the_o like_a of_o judah_n of_o who_o our_o saviour_n christ_n come_v howbeit_o that_o be_v easy_o answer_v to_o wit_n that_o melchisedech_n can_v be_v separate_v from_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n because_o he_o represent_v he_o and_o that_o all_o the_o excellency_n which_o in_o he_o depend_v hereon_o in_o that_o he_o be_v the_o figure_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n by_o great_a reason_n show_v that_o he_o to_o who_o the_o right_a of_o tithe_n by_o the_o law_n appertein_v be_v yet_o notwithstanding_o under_o melchisedech_n we_o must_v therefore_o from_o hence_o conclude_v that_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n be_v far_o more_o excellent_a than_o ever_o be_v aaron_n or_o yet_o all_o his_o successor_n albeit_o they_o be_v in_o that_o respect_n separate_v as_o it_o be_v from_o the_o company_n of_o man_n and_o when_o the_o priest_n have_v all_o his_o priestly_a garment_n upon_o he_o it_o be_v but_o to_o show_v that_o he_o be_v as_o â—n_v angel_n of_o god_n which_o may_v come_v near_o unto_o his_o majesty_n be_v a_o mediator_n to_o blot_v â—ut_v the_o and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n far_o excel_v he_o in_o honour_n and_o must_v be_v exalt_v above_o all_o the_o figure_n of_o the_o law_n that_o man_n thereby_o may_v see_v he_o to_o be_v the_o very_a truth_n and_o substance_n of_o they_o all_o and_o that_o although_o man_n do_v take_v all_o the_o shadow_n that_o ever_o be_v for_o a_o time_n yet_o shall_v they_o profit_v nothing_o and_o shall_v doubt_n that_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n which_o induce_v he_o and_o prick_v he_o forward_o thereunto_o for_o moses_n do_v not_o recite_v here_o this_o to_o be_v a_o thing_n do_v at_o randoâ—_n &_o without_o reason_n but_o rather_o declare_v that_o god_n ratify_v the_o office_n of_o melchisedech_n forsomuch_o as_o he_o mean_v to_o make_v he_o his_o priest_n and_o that_o abram_n corner_n in_o the_o world_n where_o god_n not_o will_v have_v his_o messenger_n &_o lawyer_n to_o keep_v his_o people_n in_o awe_n here_o i_o say_v we_o see_v the_o reason_n why_o god_n will_v have_v they_o to_o have_v the_o tithe_n and_o not_o busy_v themselves_o about_o till_v and_o sow_v of_o the_o earth_n the_o second_o reason_n be_v this_o that_o if_o they_o have_v possess_v the_o earth_n god_n have_v not_o be_v know_v to_o be_v lord_n and_o master_n as_o he_o be_v when_o as_o leviticall_a priest_n be_v become_v as_o it_o be_v his_o receiver_n and_o have_v send_v they_o in_o his_o name_n to_o take_v upon_o they_o the_o superiority_n &_o to_o demand_v the_o homage_n which_o be_v due_a unto_o he_o upon_o the_o earth_n and_o beside_o although_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n receive_v that_o which_o be_v due_a unto_o they_o by_o succession_n and_o inheritance_n of_o their_o father_n abram_n yet_o for_o all_o that_o god_n as_o it_o be_v will_v seem_v to_o show_v unto_o they_o that_o the_o earth_n be_v he_o &_o keep_v the_o propriety_n thereof_o unto_o himself_o &_o
be_v 6_o and_o abram_n believe_v the_o lord_n &_o he_o count_v that_o to_o he_o for_o righteousness_n we_o hear_v yesterday_o how_o abram_n in_o make_v his_o moan_n unto_o god_n because_o he_o have_v be_v conjoin_v together_o in_o he_o and_o then_o this_o union_n will_v cause_v we_o to_o be_v hold_v and_o repute_v the_o child_n of_o abram_n wherefore_o there_o can_v be_v no_o such_o seed_n as_o be_v here_o speak_v of_o except_o jesus_n christ_n be_v the_o head_n and_o we_o unite_v to_o he_o as_o member_n of_o his_o body_n and_o thereby_o to_o be_v of_o the_o house_n of_o god_n and_o so_o of_o thing_n not_o see_v agree_v with_o the_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n in_o his_o epistle_n to_o the_o roman_n say_v we_o hope_v not_o for_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o see_v 8.24_o rom._n 8.24_o but_o for_o the_o thing_n we_o see_v not_o yea_o even_o for_o thing_n that_o seem_v to_o be_v impossible_a sith_o than_o it_o be_v so_o that_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n do_v not_o set_v before_o our_o eye_n that_o which_o be_v contain_v in_o they_o we_o must_v as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v when_o we_o speak_v of_o faith_n look_v further_o than_o unto_o the_o world_n and_o how_o be_v that_o to_o wit_n we_o must_v not_o measure_v the_o infinite_a power_n of_o god_n with_o the_o mean_n which_o be_v set_v before_o we_o and_o as_o we_o comprehend_v they_o but_o when_o as_o we_o shall_v have_v these_o toy_n in_o our_o head_n as_o to_o think_v that_o this_o or_o that_o can_v never_o come_v to_o pass_v and_o that_o there_o seem_v to_o be_v a_o very_a contradiction_n in_o the_o case_n yet_o let_v we_o thus_o conclude_v without_o all_o doubt_n god_n will_v perform_v whatsoever_o he_o have_v speak_v but_o we_o will_v say_v how_o can_v it_o possible_o be_v oh_o let_v not_o we_o judge_v of_o it_o we_o must_v here_o bring_v under_o our_o own_o sense_n and_o wit_n and_o do_v god_n this_o honour_n to_o say_v that_o he_o be_v faithful_a but_o we_o know_v not_o what_o will_v be_v the_o issue_n thereof_o or_o else_o think_v that_o all_o be_v shut_v up_o and_o close_v here_o than_o we_o see_v what_o we_o be_v to_o learn_v out_o of_o these_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n now_o if_o himself_o and_o yet_o have_v be_v a_o rebel_n unto_o god_n under_o the_o colour_n of_o obedience_n but_o what_o do_v he_o he_o consider_v with_o himself_o that_o god_n be_v almighty_a and_o therefore_o able_a to_o accomplish_v whatsoever_o promise_n he_o have_v make_v concern_v isaak_n you_o say_v well_o sir_n but_o what_o if_o he_o have_v die_v how_o then_o and_o what_o of_o that_o as_o blaspheme_v the_o name_n of_o god_n a_o hundred_o time_n thus_o than_o we_o see_v that_o the_o religion_n of_o the_o papist_n be_v most_o hellish_a and_o as_o for_o the_o jew_n they_o do_v utter_o renounce_v our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n we_o have_v now_o already_o show_v that_o the_o son_n can_v be_v separate_v from_o the_o father_n and_o have_v reject_v he_o they_o have_v shut_v themselves_o clean_o out_o of_o the_o door_n and_o forsake_v the_o principal_a covenant_n which_o god_n make_v with_o they_o to_o wit_n because_o they_o will_v not_o be_v partaker_n of_o the_o salvation_n which_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n bring_v with_o he_o thus_o we_o see_v how_o they_o abuse_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o every_o condition_n and_o so_o have_v it_o be_v even_o from_o abram_n his_o time_n we_o see_v here_o then_o why_o he_o call_v he_o the_o eternal_a and_o soon_o alter_v the_o most_o high_a god_n because_o he_o will_v discern_v he_o from_o the_o idol_n of_o the_o heathen_a for_o the_o very_a heathen_a right_n well_o know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o most_o high_a and_o excellent_a heavenly_a nature_n but_o yet_o they_o have_v ever_o a_o desire_n ourselves_o eftsoons_o to_o love_v he_o and_o yield_v unto_o he_o obedience_n and_o under_o this_o word_n heaven_n also_o not_o only_o the_o benefit_n which_o we_o receive_v by_o the_o sun_n and_o star_n be_v set_v before_o we_o but_o the_o angel_n likewise_o be_v here_o put_v in_o among_o that_o we_o may_v learn_v to_o conform_v ourselves_o like_o unto_o they_o if_o then_o such_o noble_a creature_n as_o they_o be_v have_v none_o other_o regard_n but_o to_o apply_v themselves_o unto_o his_o service_n what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o poor_a worm_n of_o the_o earth_n or_o rather_o stray_v wild_a beast_n when_o as_o we_o shall_v do_v nothing_o else_o but_o rebel_n against_o his_o majesty_n in_o give_v ourselves_o over_o unto_o our_o filthy_a lust_n &_o appetite_n be_v it_o not_o sum_n what_o we_o be_v to_o remember_v that_o whensoever_o we_o shall_v speak_v of_o god_n we_o must_v always_o join_v his_o power_n with_o his_o essence_n and_o not_o suffer_v this_o word_n god_n so_o light_o to_o pass_v through_o our_o lip_n as_o many_o man_n do_v but_o we_o must_v know_v that_o as_o he_o be_v eternal_a and_o have_v make_v all_o thing_n that_o he_o have_v also_o reserve_v
