there_o be_v always_o more_o of_o they_o who_o some_o for_o preferment_n sake_n some_o for_o their_o ease_n and_o some_o for_o a_o refuge_n how_o to_o live_v be_v willing_a to_o enter_v that_o function_n and_o according_o in_o that_o call_n seek_v not_o the_o lord_n but_o themselves_o and_o their_o own_o end_n but_o here_o the_o lord_n inquire_v for_o such_o man_n as_o first_o pure_o do_v seek_v and_o undertake_v that_o function_n therein_o to_o honour_n god_n &_o to_o gather_v his_o church_n and_o then_o in_o all_o their_o labour_n and_o ministerial_a duty_n true_o and_o faithful_o endeavour_n to_o the_o same_o end_n preach_v god_n word_n and_o as_o god_n word_n diligent_o prove_v exhort_v and_o admonish_v and_o shine_v before_o their_o people_n in_o good_a work_n for_o such_o man_n it_o be_v no_o marvel_n though_o the_o lord_n light_v a_o candle_n at_o noon_n day_n and_o make_v open_a proclamation_n to_o seek_v for_o they_o 2.16_o say_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v for_o be_v to_o be_v wish_v that_o in_o these_o day_n &_o for_o our_o christian_n church_n the_o lord_n have_v not_o as_o great_a cause_n to_o cry_v out_o in_o the_o want_n of_o able_a faithful_a and_o godly_a minister_n who_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o but_o alas_o this_o want_n be_v too_o apparent_a and_o his_o blemish_n be_v too_o notorious_a and_o it_o be_v a_o work_n worthy_a the_o labour_n of_o king_n and_o prince_n to_o reform_v it_o and_o be_v a_o king_n evil_a nor_o to_o be_v heal_v but_o by_o the_o power_n of_o a_o king_n for_o as_o long_o as_o there_o be_v so_o few_o and_o mean_a preferment_n for_o painful_a minister_n there_o will_v never_o want_v abundance_n of_o such_o minister_n as_o do_v want_v either_o conscience_n or_o ability_n to_o discharge_v their_o duty_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n till_o god_n put_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o parliament_n and_o prince_n to_o look_v to_o this_o great_a and_o needful_a work_n let_v we_o minister_n learn_v our_o duty_n and_o first_o we_o who_o be_v in_o the_o university_n be_v here_o admonish_v to_o look_v to_o ourselves_o by_o god_n blessing_n we_o be_v many_o and_o daily_o grow_v more_o and_o more_o let_v we_o therefore_o so_o furnish_v ourselves_o as_o that_o when_o god_n or_o his_o church_n shall_v say_v who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o and_o who_o shall_v i_o send_v then_o he_o may_v find_v many_o among_o we_o who_o he_o may_v send_v to_o that_o great_a work_n of_o the_o ministry_n and_o let_v we_o fear_v to_o be_v such_o as_o that_o god_n may_v affirm_v of_o we_o as_o in_o the_o day_n of_o job_n that_o he_o can_v find_v one_o of_o a_o thousand_o second_o all_o minister_n learn_v here_o not_o to_o content_v themselves_o with_o the_o name_n and_o title_n of_o minister_n but_o labour_n for_o the_o substantial_a ornament_n thereof_o nor_o to_o be_v willing_a to_o take_v the_o honour_n and_o liâ—ings_n and_o to_o refuse_v the_o burden_n and_o 〈◊〉_d of_o the_o ministry_n for_o else_o let_v they_o know_v god_n have_v no_o need_n of_o they_o for_o have_v the_o lord_n please_v or_o content_v himself_o with_o such_o kind_n of_o man_n as_o seek_v to_o be_v minister_n for_o themselves_o and_o not_o for_o his_o sake_n or_o be_v minister_n do_v feed_v themselves_o and_o not_o their_o flock_n or_o preach_v themselves_o and_o not_o christ_n then_o have_v he_o not_o need_v to_o have_v make_v this_o proclamation_n for_o all_o age_n have_v yield_v store_n of_o such_o but_o contrariwise_o he_o that_o be_v painful_a and_o faithful_a in_o this_o function_n let_v he_o know_v that_o god_n and_o his_o church_n have_v need_n of_o he_o last_o here_o the_o romish_a clergy_n be_v just_o to_o be_v tax_v who_o number_n be_v infinite_a but_o it_o be_v lamentable_a to_o see_v how_o few_o among_o they_o be_v such_o as_o the_o lord_n here_o seek_v for_o their_o order_n of_o regulars_n be_v exceed_v many_o beside_o all_o their_o secular_a priest_n and_o it_o be_v almost_o incredible_a how_o many_o thousand_o there_o be_v of_o dominican_n or_o franciscan_n or_o in_o some_o one_o of_o their_o order_n and_o yet_o among_o the_o many_o million_o of_o their_o monk_n there_o be_v scarce_o to_o be_v find_v one_o of_o many_o who_o for_o his_o learning_n &_o other_o gift_n be_v fit_a to_o be_v send_v to_o the_o work_n of_o god_n nay_o their_o ignorance_n be_v palpable_a and_o ridiculous_a to_o the_o world_n until_o of_o late_a be_v by_o luther_n and_o other_o of_o our_o church_n make_v ashamed_a thereof_o they_o have_v labour_v especial_o the_o jesuit_n to_o become_v learn_v how_o foul_a a_o thing_n be_v it_o that_o among_o so_o many_o the_o lord_n shall_v have_v cause_n to_o complain_v who_o shall_v we_o send_v the_o jesuit_n indeed_o many_a of_o they_o be_v learn_v but_o for_o other_o quality_n they_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v plotter_n &_o practiser_n in_o state_n matter_n spy_n or_o intelligencer_n reconciler_n seducer_n and_o subverter_n than_o minister_n and_o fit_a to_o be_v instrument_n of_o policy_n to_o evil_a king_n than_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n unto_o god_n but_o take_v away_o they_o and_o some_o few_o select_a monk_n and_o those_o but_o few_o out_o of_o many_o millionsâ—_n &_o then_o even_o for_o learning_n also_o god_n may_v cry_v and_o call_v &_o proclaim_v in_o their_o monastery_n who_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o if_o it_o be_v a_o shame_n and_o misery_n to_o a_o church_n to_o want_v such_o as_o god_n may_v send_v or_o to_o have_v but_o a_o few_o than_o the_o romish_a church_n be_v shameless_a which_o shame_v not_o to_o have_v so_o many_o and_o yet_o among_o they_o all_o who_o god_n may_v send_v almost_o none_o in_o the_o next_o place_n by_o this_o inquiry_n and_o question_v make_v by_o god_n who_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o the_o lord_n will_v teach_v we_o that_o no_o man_n be_v to_o undertake_v this_o function_n unless_o god_n call_v and_o send_v he_o therefore_o here_o be_v condemn_v the_o profane_a fancy_n of_o the_o anabaptist_n and_o all_o like_o they_o who_o think_v that_o any_o man_n upon_o a_o private_a motion_n may_v step_v forth_o and_o undertake_v the_o duty_n of_o a_o prophet_n to_o preach_v and_o expound_v etc._n etc._n oh_o but_o say_v they_o these_o motion_n be_v from_o god_n spirit_n sure_o they_o can_v say_v little_a for_o themselves_o who_o can_v say_v so_o much_o but_o that_o can_v serve_v their_o turn_n for_o if_o we_o say_v contrariwise_o nay_o but_o they_o be_v from_o the_o devil_n or_o at_o the_o least_o from_o your_o own_o vanity_n and_o pride_n how_o can_v they_o disprove_v it_o again_o may_v not_o the_o prophet_n have_v allege_v that_o with_o a_o better_a pretence_n and_o colour_n than_o they_o yet_o he_o stay_v till_o god_n here_o call_v he_o even_o so_o all_o good_a minister_n be_v to_o stay_v god_n call_v if_o any_o ask_v how_o he_o shall_v know_v when_o god_n call_v he_o i_o answer_v god_n call_v ordinary_o by_o his_o church_n her_o voice_n be_v he_o therefore_o whensoever_o the_o church_n of_o god_n say_v unto_o thou_o thou_o shall_v be_v send_v and_o thou_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o even_o than_o do_v the_o lord_n call_v we_o out_o to_o this_o holy_a function_n three_o let_v we_o observe_v how_o the_o lord_n say_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v &_o who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o some_o interpreter_n gather_v out_o of_o this_o chapter_n a_o argument_n for_o the_o trinity_n of_o person_n as_o namely_o out_o of_o the_o three_o verse_n where_o the_o angel_n sing_v holy_a holy_a holy_a lord_n god_n etc._n etc._n but_o it_o be_v not_o sound_a enough_o to_o overthrow_v our_o stubborn_a enemy_n the_o jew_n and_o therefore_o it_o seem_v those_o divine_n be_v of_o a_o sound_a and_o wise_a judgement_n who_o see_v we_o have_v other_o place_n pregnant_a and_o plain_a enough_o therefore_o think_v it_o no_o good_a discreetion_n to_o urge_v this_o or_o any_o such_o place_n which_o may_v probable_o admit_v another_o interpretation_n lest_o that_o the_o jew_n find_v the_o weakness_n of_o the_o argument_n do_v judge_v all_o our_o proof_n to_o be_v as_o weak_a and_o so_o
god_n glory_n in_o save_v of_o soul_n than_o aâ—_n the_o first_o set_v we_o not_o before_o our_o eye_n the_o honour_n but_o the_o danger_n of_o our_o call_n and_o humble_a we_o ourselves_o under_o the_o mighty_a hand_n of_o our_o god_n that_o he_o may_v exalt_v we_o in_o his_o due_a time_n and_o let_v we_o be_v content_a that_o god_n give_v any_o occasion_n or_o mean_n to_o pull_v we_o down_o either_o by_o outward_a cross_n or_o inward_a temptation_n and_o let_v we_o rejoice_v when_o we_o be_v thereby_o so_o far_o cast_v down_o that_o we_o cry_v out_o in_o the_o astonishment_n of_o our_o spirit_n as_o the_o prophet_n here_o woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v but_o otherwise_o if_o we_o will_v needs_o follow_v the_o swinge_n of_o our_o proud_a nature_n and_o trust_v in_o our_o own_o ability_n gift_n and_o learning_n let_v we_o know_v we_o use_v carnal_a weapon_n in_o a_o spiritual_a warfare_n and_o let_v we_o be_v assure_v the_o lord_n will_v work_v no_o great_a work_n in_o his_o church_n by_o our_o ministry_n we_o may_v raise_v ourselves_o in_o worldly_a estimation_n and_o work_v out_o our_o own_o purpose_n but_o we_o shall_v do_v little_a in_o the_o salvation_n of_o soul_n for_o those_o man_n do_v pronounce_v the_o most_o powerful_a blessing_n on_o other_o man_n soul_n and_o speak_v the_o best_a word_n of_o comfort_n to_o other_o man_n conscience_n which_o they_o often_o say_v unto_o themselves_o woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v furthermore_o whereas_o the_o prophet_n at_o this_o vision_n and_o revelation_n of_o god_n glory_n unto_o he_o cry_v out_o of_o himself_o woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v be_v word_n of_o extreme_a fear_n and_o astonishment_n and_o of_o so_o low_a a_o dejection_n as_o be_v a_o degree_n towards_o desperation_n if_o it_o have_v go_v forward_o let_v we_o learn_v that_o the_o prophet_n hold_v not_o in_o his_o judgement_n the_o doctrine_n of_o intercession_n of_o angel_n and_o saint_n for_o particular_a man_n for_o if_o he_o have_v he_o need_v not_o at_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n majesty_n forthwith_o to_o have_v cry_v out_o woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v but_o he_o may_v have_v stay_v himself_o awhile_o in_o this_o cogitation_n i_o will_v desire_v moses_n samuel_n or_o david_n to_o pray_v to_o this_o glorious_a god_n for_o i_o or_o here_o be_v holy_a angel_n of_o the_o seraphin_n here_o present_a they_o see_v in_o what_o fearful_a case_n i_o be_o i_o will_v pray_v to_o they_o to_o speak_v to_o this_o glorious_a and_o mighty_a lord_n for_o i_o that_o i_o perish_v not_o in_o this_o fear_n but_o he_o instant_o see_v the_o lord_n appear_v in_o majesty_n and_o fear_v his_o just_a wrath_n be_v guilty_a of_o his_o own_o corruption_n without_o any_o hope_n or_o expectation_n or_o as_o he_o seem_v without_o the_o least_o cogitation_n of_o help_n or_o assistance_n from_o any_o creature_n he_o cry_v out_o i_o be_o undo_v last_o whereas_o he_o exclaim_v woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v be_v word_n of_o a_o soul_n humble_v &_o deject_a &_o hereby_o show_v himself_o to_o be_v in_o that_o case_n which_o a_o poor_a sinner_n be_v when_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o law_n have_v humble_v he_o by_o show_v he_o his_o sin_n and_o his_o extreme_a danger_n by_o they_o we_o may_v learn_v that_o to_o be_v call_v to_o the_o ministry_n be_v to_o be_v as_o it_o be_v convert_v and_o regenerate_v &_o that_o when_o a_o man_n be_v call_v thereunto_o it_o be_v a_o work_n little_o less_o than_o that_o whereby_o god_n call_v a_o sinner_n from_o his_o sin_n to_o the_o state_n of_o repentance_n for_o as_o god_n first_o cast_v down_o the_o sinner_n before_o he_o give_v he_o grace_n or_o any_o feel_n of_o his_o love_n in_o christ_n so_o here_o he_o first_o abase_v and_o cast_v down_o the_o prophet_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o gâ—ds_n majesty_n and_o his_o own_o misery_n afore_o he_o honour_v he_o with_o a_o commission_n to_o preach_v peace_n unto_o his_o people_n which_o i_o note_v against_o those_o a_o great_a work_n to_o be_v wrought_v then_o so_o he_o must_v be_v humble_v &_o cast_v down_o in_o sight_n of_o the_o greatness_n of_o that_o call_n of_o the_o majesty_n of_o that_o god_n who_o room_n he_o be_v to_o execute_v &_o of_o the_o unworthines_n of_o himself_o to_o so_o great_a a_o work_n he_o must_v be_v resolve_v that_o to_o call_v a_o man_n to_o the_o ministry_n be_v the_o great_a work_n that_o god_n work_v in_o his_o church_n but_o the_o convert_n of_o a_o sinner_n and_o call_v he_o to_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n nay_o it_o be_v a_o work_n even_o like_a unto_o it_o for_o as_o a_o sinner_n in_o his_o conversion_n so_o he_o at_o his_o vocation_n to_o that_o place_n be_v often_o to_o cry_v out_o in_o the_o amazement_n of_o his_o soul_n woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v as_o therefore_o they_o be_v foulie_o deceive_v which_o think_v any_o holiness_n or_o sanctification_n can_v sufficient_o qualify_v a_o man_n without_o learning_n so_o be_v they_o no_o less_o which_o think_v all_o outward_a compliment_n to_o be_v sufficient_a without_o this_o work_n which_o here_o be_v wrought_v in_o the_o holy_a prophet_n thus_o we_o see_v the_o fear_n and_o astonishment_n of_o the_o prophet_n it_o follow_v for_o i_o be_o a_o man_n of_o pollute_a lip_n now_o follow_v the_o cause_n of_o his_o fear_n which_o be_v two_o the_o first_o be_v his_o own_o pollution_n and_o sinfulness_n and_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o his_o people_n his_o own_o he_o free_o confess_v in_o these_o word_n i_o be_o a_o man_n of_o pollute_a lip_n that_o be_v i_o be_o a_o miserable_a and_o sinful_a man_n and_o therefore_o i_o fear_v and_o tremble_v to_o stand_v in_o god_n presence_n nay_o i_o dare_v not_o look_v upon_o the_o lord_n for_o my_o sin_n but_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v how_o can_v the_o prophet_n say_v thus_o true_o for_o he_o be_v a_o holy_a man_n and_o justify_v in_o god_n presence_n by_o his_o true_a faith_n in_o the_o messiah_n and_o sanctify_v by_o repentance_n can_v a_o man_n justify_v and_o sanctify_v say_v he_o be_v a_o man_n pollute_v i_o answer_v it_o be_v doubtless_o he_o be_v so_o he_o therefore_o complain_v here_o not_o of_o any_o great_a and_o enormous_a sin_n which_o he_o have_v commit_v to_o the_o public_a scandoll_n of_o the_o church_n but_o first_o of_o the_o corruption_n of_o his_o nature_n which_o in_o he_o as_o in_o all_o man_n be_v a_o very_a sea_n of_o iniquity_n &_o which_o always_o appear_v the_o more_o the_o near_a a_o man_n come_v to_o god_n and_o therefore_o do_v now_o most_o apparent_o discover_v itself_o in_o the_o prophet_n when_o he_o be_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o lord_n himself_o second_o he_o complain_v of_o some_o actual_a sin_n of_o his_o life_n and_o it_o be_v more_o likely_a of_o some_o sin_n of_o omission_n then_o of_o commission_n for_o we_o find_v not_o that_o the_o prophet_n be_v ever_o touch_v with_o any_o great_a sin_n and_o where_o we_o know_v it_o not_o we_o be_v in_o charity_n not_o to_o imagine_v it_o so_o that_o it_o it_o be_v most_o probable_a he_o complain_v of_o some_o small_a faulâ—s_n or_o negligence_n in_o his_o ministry_n as_o not_o preach_v to_o the_o people_n at_o some_o time_n when_o he_o ought_v or_o not_o preach_v so_o willing_o or_o cheerful_o as_o he_o shall_v or_o desire_v to_o leaâ—e_n preach_v because_o the_o people_n be_v stubborn_a and_o disobedient_a or_o some_o impatience_n in_o his_o ministry_n when_o the_o people_n be_v rebellious_a and_o resist_v his_o doctrine_n which_o passion_n may_v the_o rather_o vex_v he_o as_o we_o read_v it_o do_v jeremie_n the_o jew_n be_v so_o stubborn_a and_o stifnecked_a a_o people_n or_o it_o may_v be_v some_o want_n of_o zeal_n or_o forwardness_n these_o or_o some_o such_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o his_o fear_n and_o the_o conscience_n of_o â—â—ese_n make_v he_o here_o cry_v out_o that_o he_o can_v stand_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n where_o we_o leâ—râ—e_v first_o what_o a_o tender_a conscience_n godly_a minister_n must_v have_v above_o all_o man_n â—amâ—ly_o that_o they_o must_v make_v conscience_n 〈◊〉_d of_o the_o great_a and_o gross_a sin_n only_o but_o even_o of_o the_o low_a &_o least_o sin_n and_o he_o mâ—st_v endeavour_n in_o his_o call_n not_o only_o to_o be_v clear_a of_o great_a crime_n but_o as_o far_o as_o
be_v take_v away_o thy_o sin_n shall_v be_v forgive_v where_o we_o learn_v that_o as_o few_o come_v by_o sin_n so_o all_o true_a comfort_n come_v from_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n this_o be_v that_o that_o only_o pacifi_v the_o conscience_n and_o satisfy_v the_o soul_n when_o david_n have_v sin_v against_o the_o lord_n in_o his_o two_o great_a sin_n and_o thereby_o provoke_v god_n wrath_n against_o he_o and_o wound_v his_o own_o conscience_n if_o the_o prophet_n have_v tell_v he_o he_o have_v make_v he_o king_n of_o 10_o kingdomed_a more_o 11_o he_o have_v not_o so_o rejoice_v his_o heart_n as_o when_o he_o tell_v he_o after_o his_o repentance_n thy_o sin_n be_v forgive_v thou_o thou_o shall_v not_o die_v so_o when_o this_o prophet_n be_v extreme_o affright_v at_o god_n presence_n because_o of_o some_o sin_n and_o negligence_n in_o his_o call_n it_o have_v be_v no_o comfort_n to_o his_o poor_a soul_n to_o have_v be_v tell_v thou_o shall_v have_v a_o more_o eloquent_a iniquity_n be_v forgive_v and_o thy_o sin_n purge_v all_o faithful_a minister_n must_v here_o learn_v the_o true_a way_n of_o comfort_v trouble_v and_o distress_a conscience_n namely_o first_o to_o draw_v he_o unto_o a_o sight_n of_o some_o particular_a sin_n then_o to_o summon_v he_o into_o god_n presence_n and_o there_o to_o arraign_v he_o for_o those_o sin_n until_o the_o view_n of_o the_o foulness_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n justice_n have_v sufficient_o humble_v he_o and_o then_o to_o labour_v to_o persuade_v his_o conscience_n upon_o good_a ground_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o those_o sin_n by_o christ_n jesus_n this_o be_v the_o way_n that_o god_n use_v and_o devise_v this_o be_v the_o sure_a way_n that_o can_v fail_v some_o think_v that_o all_o trouble_n of_o mind_n be_v nothing_o but_o melancholy_a and_o therefore_o think_v nothing_o needs_o but_o physic_n and_o outward_a comfort_n but_o he_o that_o consider_v in_o what_o case_n the_o prophet_n here_o be_v or_o david_n when_o he_o make_v the_o 6._o the_o 32._o or_o the_o 51._o psalm_n psalm_n will_v be_v of_o another_o mind_n and_o will_v find_v that_o nothing_o can_v proper_o trouble_v the_o mind_n but_o sin_n therefore_o as_o the_o wise_a physician_n in_o his_o cure_n first_o search_v out_o the_o cause_n and_o then_o endeavour_n to_o to_o take_v it_o away_o so_o the_o good_a proper_o to_o another_o place_n in_o the_o next_o place_n let_v we_o here_o observe_v how_o the_o lord_n afore_o he_o renew_v the_o prophet_n commission_n or_o send_v he_o to_o preach_v to_o the_o people_n first_o humble_v he_o for_o his_o sin_n and_o then_o upon_o his_o repentance_n give_v he_o pardon_v teach_v we_o that_o no_o minister_n be_v well_o qualify_v to_o the_o holy_a duty_n of_o the_o ministry_n unless_o he_o have_v true_o repent_v of_o his_o sin_n and_o have_v obtain_v pardon_n and_o mercy_n in_o the_o messiah_n minister_n labour_n for_o qualification_n but_o the_o true_a be_v in_o many_o christian_a church_n so_o many_o minister_n as_o they_o can_v all_o be_v maintain_v but_o some_o go_v up_o and_o down_o undisposed_a and_o unprovided_a for_o i_o answer_v this_o be_v too_o true_a in_o all_o age_n there_o be_v wander_v levits_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n which_o go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o offer_v their_o service_n and_o serve_v for_o 10._o shekel_n of_o silver_n and_o a_o suit_n of_o apparel_n and_o meat_n and_o drink_v 17.8.6_o but_o this_o calamity_n be_v upon_o the_o church_n of_o the_o jew_n never_o but_o then_o when_o there_o be_v no_o king_n nor_o be_v ever_o cast_v down_o in_o admiration_n of_o god_n glory_n and_o majesty_n and_o last_o the_o ministry_n be_v a_o high_a &_o excellent_a calâ—ing_n especial_o the_o office_n of_o extraordinary_a prophet_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n and_o be_v therefore_o subject_a to_o pride_n and_o to_o be_v â—uft_v up_o with_o self-conceit_n &_o therefore_o reach_v the_o apostle_n to_o timothy_n that_o a_o minister_n may_v not_o be_v a_o young_a scholar_n 3.6_o lest_o he_o 〈◊〉_d puff_v up_o and_o fall_v into_o the_o condemnation_n of_o â—he_n wicked_a give_v we_o to_o understand_v that_o it_o â—s_v the_o peculiar_a danger_n of_o the_o calling_n to_o have_v high_a conceit_n of_o themselves_o because_o of_o the_o height_n &_o dignity_n of_o their_o function_n therefore_o to_o prevent_v this_o inconvenience_n god_n in_o mercy_n appoint_v that_o all_o his_o true_a minister_n shall_v have_v some_o mean_n 〈◊〉_d other_o to_o be_v cast_v down_o even_o to_o nothing_o in_o themselves_o and_o shall_v be_v drive_v â—nto_o such_o fear_n &_o amazement_n at_o sight_n of_o their_o own_o weakness_n as_o they_o shall_v throw_v down_o themselves_o at_o christ_n â—eete_n and_o deny_v themselves_o whole_o shall_v acknowledge_v that_o they_o be_v in_o he_o whatsoever_o they_o be_v and_o do_v rely_v and_o trust_v only_o on_o his_o grace_n and_o help_v the_o use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n as_o it_o be_v for_o all_o minister_n so_o special_o for_o we_o which_o live_v in_o the_o university_n we_o live_v as_o it_o be_v in_o a_o seminary_n and_o many_o of_o we_o be_v hereafter_o by_o god_n grace_n to_o be_v frame_v to_o the_o ministry_n and_o some_o of_o we_o already_o be_v now_o here_o we_o have_v many_o occasion_n to_o be_v puff_v up_o in_o self-conceit_n we_o see_v ourselves_o grow_v in_o time_n in_o degree_n in_o learning_n in_o honour_n in_o name_n and_o estimation_n and_o to_o many_o of_o we_o god_n give_v good_a portion_n of_o his_o gift_n what_o be_v all_o these_o but_o so_o many_o bait_n to_o allure_v we_o to_o pride_n and_o vain_a opinion_n of_o our_o own_o worth_n but_o let_v we_o remember_v the_o end_n we_o aim_v at_o be_v not_o humane_a nor_o carnal_a our_o purpose_n be_v to_o save_v soul_n 11.4_o then_o the_o weapon_n of_o our_o war_n rau_v not_o be_v carnal_a as_o pride_n vainglory_n and_o self-conceit_n if_o therefore_o we_o ever_o look_v to_o be_v make_v instrument_n oâ—_n
and_o to_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n where_o we_o learn_v first_o what_o excellent_a servant_n of_o god_n the_o holy_a angel_n be_v which_o so_o ready_o willing_o and_o speedy_o execute_v the_o will_n of_o their_o lord_n this_o must_v teach_v all_o god_n servant_n to_o do_v the_o like_a and_o to_o imitate_v they_o in_o this_o excellent_a obedience_n and_o the_o rather_o because_o we_o pray_v daily_o to_o god_n petition_n thy_o will_v be_v do_v in_o earth_n as_o it_o be_v in_o heaven_n in_o earth_n of_o we_o as_o it_o be_v in_o heaven_n of_o the_o holy_a angel_n but_o they_o do_v it_o most_o cheerful_o and_o without_o all_o linger_a therefore_o so_o ought_v we_o magistrate_n in_o their_o place_n and_o minister_n in_o they_o and_o every_o man_n be_v his_o function_n be_v to_o apply_v this_o to_o himself_o and_o to_o be_v stir_v up_o thereby_o to_o a_o cheerfulness_n and_o quickness_n in_o their_o duty_n for_o therein_o they_o resemble_v the_o bless_a angel_n &_o then_o their_o deed_n accord_v with_o their_o prayer_n but_o contrariwise_o he_o that_o do_v his_o duty_n unwilling_o and_o unready_o be_v like_o the_o devil_n which_o indeed_o do_v god_n will_n and_o yet_o against_o his_o will_n and_o sure_o unto_o such_o obedience_n there_o belong_v no_o reward_n but_o as_o god_n love_v a_o cheerful_a giver_n so_o doubtless_o love_v he_o a_o cheerful_a worker_n 9.7_o second_o we_o see_v here_o how_o great_a love_n angel_n bear_v unto_o god_n child_n especial_o unto_o godly_a minister_n how_o willing_o they_o be_v employ_v to_o do_v they_o good_a willingness_n and_o readiness_n to_o do_v good_a to_o any_o man_n must_v needs_o come_v from_o love_n and_o yet_o alas_o all_o man_n even_o the_o best_a and_o all_o minister_n even_o the_o best_a be_v creature_n far_o inferior_a to_o the_o angel_n here_o magistrate_n and_o minister_n must_v learn_v to_o be_v far_o from_o contempt_n of_o their_o inferior_n and_o to_o do_v their_o duty_n of_o rule_v and_o teach_v careful_o though_o the_o people_n be_v far_o their_o inferiors_n it_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o love_n to_o make_v any_o man_n do_v service_n most_o willing_o to_o he_o that_o he_o love_v though_o he_o be_v far_o mean_a than_o himself_o if_o therefore_o prince_n love_v their_o subject_n they_o will_v not_o spare_v any_o care_n cost_n nor_o pain_n nay_o they_o will_v rejoice_v to_o do_v they_o good_a and_o they_o will_v labour_v to_o be_v like_o the_o angel_n who_o be_v as_o far_o great_a than_o man_n as_o they_o be_v then_o their_o subject_n and_o if_o minister_n love_v their_o people_n they_o will_v forget_v their_o own_o dignity_n which_o oft_o time_n they_o may_v stand_v upon_o and_o will_v make_v themselves_o even_o servant_n to_o all_o that_o they_o may_v win_v some_o and_o see_v angle_n do_v fly_v so_o fast_o to_o give_v help_n and_o comfort_n to_o good_a minister_n 9.19_o this_o must_v teach_v they_o further_o first_o every_o one_o to_o labour_v to_o be_v a_o good_a minister_n for_o then_o be_v they_o sure_a of_o the_o love_n of_o angel_n and_o then_o most_o willing_o do_v the_o angel_n any_o service_n to_o they_o again_o let_v it_o teach_v they_o to_o fly_v as_o fast_o to_o the_o discharge_n of_o their_o duty_n to_o god_n church_n as_o the_o angelâ—_n fly_v to_o do_v they_o service_n so_o shall_v god_n angel_n think_v their_o diligence_n and_o be_v good_a for_o nothing_o 22.29_o but_o the_o diligent_a man_n shall_v stand_v before_o the_o king_n and_o sure_o he_o that_o be_v willing_a and_o diligent_a in_o the_o duty_n of_o christianity_n that_o which_o in_o all_o reason_n will_v have_v make_v he_o speak_v worse_o by_o god_n appointment_n and_o the_o power_n of_o his_o word_n shall_v make_v he_o speak_v better_o out_o of_o which_o practice_n of_o god_n we_o learn_v many_o point_n first_o see_v how_o god_n magnify_v mean_n he_o can_v work_v without_o they_o and_o so_o he_o do_v in_o the_o creation_n give_v light_n to_o the_o world_n 17._o diverse_a day_n before_o there_o be_v sun_n but_o since_o the_o order_n of_o nature_n be_v establish_v he_o general_o use_v mean_n not_o only_o in_o his_o ordinary_n but_o even_o in_o his_o miraculous_a action_n and_o though_o he_o use_v not_o always_o the_o ordinary_a and_o direct_a mean_n yet_o mean_v he_o general_o use_v though_o they_o seem_v contrary_a as_o here_o in_o this_o of_o such_o good_a mean_n as_o god_n providence_n have_v ordain_v of_o any_o duty_n or_o effect_v of_o any_o thing_n that_o do_v belong_v unto_o we_o to_o do_v and_o not_o to_o depend_v upon_o immediate_a help_n from_o heaven_n as_o many_o fond_a and_o fantastical_a man_n do_v who_o be_v therefore_o oftentimes_o just_o forsake_v of_o god_n and_o leave_v destitute_a of_o all_o help_n and_o so_o expose_v to_o shame_n and_o reproach_n second_o see_v here_o the_o mighty_a power_n of_o god_n ordinance_n how_o it_o appear_v in_o weakness_n such_o be_v all_o his_o great_a work_n in_o the_o creation_n he_o bring_v light_a out_o of_o darkness_n in_o our_o redemption_n he_o bring_v we_o life_n out_o of_o death_n in_o our_o conversion_n he_o work_v upon_o we_o by_o his_o worde_n and_o by_o it_o he_o draw_v we_o to_o he_o which_o in_o all_o reason_n will_v drive_v we_o from_o he_o and_o by_o it_o confound_v the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o world_n which_o be_v stark_a foolishness_n to_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o so_o here_o he_o cleanse_v the_o prophet_n by_o a_o coal_n of_o fire_n which_o will_v rather_o defile_v he_o and_o season_v his_o mouth_n with_o it_o which_o in_o reason_n shall_v have_v burn_v he_o so_o great_a so_o admirable_a and_o so_o powerful_a be_v the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n though_o they_o seem_v never_o so_o contrary_a or_o so_o weak_a in_o themselves_o or_o in_o their_o mean_n let_v this_o teach_v all_o man_n not_o to_o contemn_v the_o sacrament_n though_o the_o outward_a element_n bread_n wine_n and_o water_n be_v weak_a and_o common_a and_o dead_a creature_n in_o themselves_o nor_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n though_o it_o be_v exercise_v by_o a_o weak_a man_n mortal_a and_o miserable_a as_o other_o be_v for_o that_o god_n which_o can_v season_v the_o prophet_n mouth_n and_o cleanse_v his_o heart_n by_o a_o coal_n of_o fire_n no_o marvel_n though_o he_o work_v upon_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n by_o his_o word_n and_o sacrament_n and_o again_o when_o we_o see_v grace_n and_o holiness_n convey_v into_o man_n heart_n by_o the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n let_v we_o learn_v not_o to_o ascribe_v it_o to_o the_o dignity_n either_o of_o the_o minister_n or_o the_o element_n but_o to_o the_o supreme_a power_n of_o the_o mighty_a god_n who_o can_v purge_v the_o prophet_n by_o a_o coal_n from_o the_o altar_n neither_o be_v it_o altogether_o without_o mystery_n that_o god_n here_o sanctify_v the_o prophet_n by_o touch_v his_o lip_n with_o a_o fiery_a coal_n for_o it_o signify_v that_o the_o apt_a and_o sufficient_a
