publish_v his_o mind_n with_o such_o zeal_n and_o alacrity_n such_o affection_n and_o confidence_n as_o may_v in_o some_o measure_n represent_v his_o great_a love_n who_o send_v the_o message_n his_o delight_n to_o do_v they_o good_a and_o his_o real_a purpose_n to_o perform_v what_o he_o say_v for_o this_o cause_n be_v the_o prophet_n here_o command_v to_o cry_v this_o message_n 4._o the_o lord_n relation_n to_o his_o people_n be_v a_o marriage_n tie_v which_o be_v not_o break_v by_o every_o fault_n nor_o cast_v off_o in_o sad_a dispensation_n for_o his_o be_v jealous_a for_o she_o import_v that_o she_o be_v the_o wife_n still_o for_o all_o she_o have_v do_v or_o have_v come_v upon_o she_o 5._o albeit_o the_o lord_n will_v neither_o hold_v stroke_n off_o his_o people_n when_o they_o need_v or_o deserve_v they_o nor_o deliver_v they_o till_o his_o time_n come_v yet_o his_o marriage-affection_n do_v resent_v all_o their_o trouble_n and_o injury_n do_v to_o they_o so_o that_o they_o grieve_v not_o nor_o be_v wrong_v but_o his_o heart_n bleed_v as_o in_o due_a time_n will_v appear_v in_o effect_n i_o be_o say_v he_o jealous_a for_o jerusalem_n and_o zion_n with_o a_o great_a jealousy_n verse_n 15_o and_o i_o be_o very_o sore_o displease_v with_o the_o heathen_a that_o be_v at_o ease_n for_o i_o be_v but_o a_o little_a displease_v and_o they_o help_v forward_o the_o affliction_n a_o second_o branch_n of_o the_o answer_n give_v in_o commission_n to_o the_o prophet_n hold_v forth_o god_n great_a displeasure_n against_o the_o enemy_n of_o the_o church_n for_o all_o their_o quiet_a condition_n because_o that_o when_o god_n intend_v to_o correct_v his_o people_n by_o their_o mean_n they_o have_v prove_v severe_a executioner_n doct._n 1._o as_o it_o be_v a_o heathenish_a mark_n to_o live_v at_o ease_n in_o a_o uncertain_a world_n especial_o when_o the_o church_n be_v in_o trouble_n so_o god_n displeasure_n against_o heathen_n or_o man_n of_o heathenish_a disposition_n and_o practice_n in_o afflict_v the_o church_n of_o god_n may_v be_v very_o great_a and_o ready_a to_o break_v forth_o in_o due_a time_n notwithstanding_o their_o easy_a life_n and_o quiet_a estate_n i_o be_o very_o sore_o displease_v with_o the_o heathen_a that_o be_v at_o ease_n 2._o the_o lord_n hot_a displeasure_n against_o his_o own_o people_n will_v be_v find_v very_o easy_a when_o it_o be_v compare_v with_o his_o severity_n against_o his_o enemy_n therefore_o however_o the_o jew_n be_v call_v to_o consider_v it_o in_o itself_o as_o sore_a displeasure_n v._o 2._o yet_o be_v thus_o compare_v with_o the_o lot_n of_o other_o it_o be_v say_v i_o be_v but_o a_o little_a displease_v 3._o albeit_o none_o of_o the_o church_n enemy_n and_o instrument_n of_o god_n chastisement_n can_v transgress_v the_o bound_n of_o his_o purpose_n and_o permission_n to_o add_v any_o thing_n to_o the_o church_n trouble_n yet_o as_o they_o go_v beyond_o his_o reveal_v will_n and_o approbation_n so_o they_o use_v to_o execute_v god_n purpose_n with_o such_o cruel_a mind_n and_o so_o destructive_a intention_n as_o render_v they_o high_o guilty_a before_o god_n thus_o they_o help_v forward_o the_o affliction_n when_o god_n be_v but_o a_o little_a displease_v they_o have_v more_o cruelty_n in_o their_o way_n then_o god_n determine_v to_o be_v execute_v and_o they_o intend_v and_o aim_v at_o the_o utter_a destruction_n of_o the_o church_n when_o god_n intend_v only_o to_o correct_v and_o purge_v they_o 4._o as_o the_o cruel_a design_n of_o the_o church_n enemy_n will_v fail_v they_o so_o their_o severity_n in_o execute_v the_o lord_n controversy_n be_v a_o token_n of_o god_n sore_a anger_n against_o they_o and_o of_o their_o approach_a ruin_n for_o the_o church_n be_v now_o deliver_v in_o part_n beyond_o their_o expectation_n and_o desire_n and_o this_o their_o way_n speak_v god_n very_o sore_o displease_v which_o will_v not_o long_o conceal_v verse_n 16._o therefore_o thus_o say_v the_o lord_n i_o be_o return_v to_o jerusalem_n with_o mercy_n my_o house_n shall_v be_v build_v in_o it_o say_v the_o lord_z of_o host_n and_o a_o line_n shall_v be_v stretch_v forth_o upon_o jerusalem_n a_o three_o branch_n of_o this_o answer_n and_o message_n hold_v forth_o some_o promise_a effect_n of_o his_o declare_a love_n to_o his_o people_n to_o wit_n that_o the_o lord_n be_v now_o reconcile_v with_o they_o the_o temple_n shall_v be_v build_v and_o their_o city_n and_o wall_n also_o in_o nehemiahs_n time_n signify_v by_o the_o stretch_n out_o of_o a_o workman_n line_n to_o square_v his_o build_n by_o when_o he_o work_v and_o so_o in_o effect_n promise_v to_o erect_v their_o public_a worship_n and_o politic_a state_n doct._n 1._o the_o lord_n who_o speak_v comfortable_o of_o his_o love_n to_o the_o church_n in_o her_o trouble_n will_v in_o due_a time_n let_v forth_o real_a and_o convince_a proof_n and_o fruit_n thereof_o this_o promise_n come_v in_o on_o the_o back_n of_o the_o former_a concern_v his_o love_n to_o his_o people_n and_o hatred_n against_o her_o afflicter_n with_o a_o therefore_o as_o mind_v to_o give_v a_o real_a proof_n of_o what_o he_o say_v 2._o as_o the_o lord_n presence_n with_o his_o people_n as_o a_o reconcile_a god_n be_v a_o
chief_a fruit_n of_o his_o love_n so_o temporal_a calamity_n will_v not_o hinder_v his_o manifest_v of_o his_o be_v reconcile_v in_o his_o own_o due_a time_n for_o after_o he_o have_v be_v angry_a with_o they_o and_o have_v go_v away_o as_o to_o any_o outward_a manifestation_n of_o his_o presence_n he_o assure_v they_o again_o as_o a_o great_a proof_n of_o his_o love_n thus_o say_v the_o lord_n and_o confirm_v they_o in_o that_o privilege_n of_o be_v his_o choose_a people_n notwithstanding_o their_o temporal_a rejection_n doct._n 1._o when_o the_o lord_n have_v say_v much_o for_o the_o comfort_n of_o his_o people_n he_o have_v still_o yet_o more_o to_o say_v to_o be_v as_o confident_o avow_v as_o if_o he_o have_v make_v but_o promise_n of_o one_o thing_n and_o his_o servant_n need_v much_o up-stirring_a to_o search_v into_o the_o riches_n of_o christ_n and_o not_o to_o weary_v in_o bring_v it_o forth_o unto_o his_o people_n therefore_o after_o the_o former_a commission_n and_o promise_n cry_v yet_o say_v the_o lord_n 2._o though_o there_o be_v many_o thing_n that_o seem_v to_o lie_v in_o the_o way_n of_o promise_n such_o as_o guilt_n difficulty_n length_n of_o time_n etc._n etc._n which_o may_v make_v performance_n seem_v improbable_a if_o not_o impossible_a yet_o the_o faith_n both_o of_o preacher_n and_o people_n ought_v to_o step_v over_o these_o and_o whatever_o appear_v to_o the_o contrary_a the_o promise_n be_v to_o be_v publish_v and_o believe_v this_o be_v import_v in_o the_o many_o yet_n in_o this_o commission_n and_o promise_n cry_v yet_o my_o city_n shall_v yet_o spread_v etc._n etc._n show_v that_o whatever_o be_v say_v to_o the_o contrary_a these_o thing_n shall_v be_v 3._o when_o god_n be_v reconcile_v with_o a_o people_n all_o thing_n that_o concern_v they_o become_v the_o lord_n in_o a_o special_a manner_n to_o get_v protection_n and_o blessing_n from_o he_o for_o now_o their_o city_n be_v he_o my_o city_n 4._o though_o the_o lord_n people_n reconcile_v with_o he_o may_v lie_v low_a for_o a_o time_n yet_o his_o blessing_n can_v exalt_v they_o beyond_o all_o expectation_n my_o city_n through_o prosperity_n shall_v yet_o be_v which_o by_o sad_a affliction_n seem_v to_o be_v annul_v and_o make_v void_a for_o their_o comfort_n be_v that_o by_o these_o dispensation_n he_o shall_v yet_o choose_v jerusalem_n or_o give_v a_o the_o world_n and_o have_v scatter_v the_o whole_a body_n of_o god_n people_n both_o of_o israel_n and_o judah_n which_o enemy_n be_v represent_v to_o the_o prophet_n and_o under_o the_o type_n of_o horn_n allude_v to_o the_o custom_n of_o soldier_n who_o have_v iron_n horn_n in_o their_o helmet_n for_o terror_n or_o to_o beast_n who_o enemy_n resemble_v in_o cruelty_n so_o albeit_o the_o jew_n can_v not_o resist_v they_o nor_o shake_v off_o the_o yoke_n till_o their_o trial_n be_v perfect_v yet_o the_o lord_n have_v other_o enemy_n and_o fit_v instrument_n ready_a in_o all_o quarter_n to_o be_v terrible_a unto_o these_o oppressor_n and_o cast_v they_o out_o of_o their_o power_n and_o to_o break_v and_o crush_v it_o which_o also_o be_v represent_v to_o the_o prophet_n under_o the_o type_n of_o carpenter_n or_o hammer-man_n able_a to_o break_v and_o cut_v off_o these_o horn_n and_o both_o these_o type_n be_v explain_v by_o the_o lord_n unto_o he_o doct._n 1._o when_o great_a promise_n be_v give_v to_o the_o church_n her_o faith_n may_v have_v sore_a essay_n and_o great_a obstruction_n may_v appear_v in_o the_o way_n of_o performance_n from_o potent_a cruel_a and_o he_o have_v see_v christ_n and_o behold_v a_o man_n with_o a_o measure_n line_n etc._n etc._n to_o wit_n christ_n himself_o in_o humane_a shape_n who_o be_v busy_a measure_v the_o city_n go_v forth_o the_o gentile_n come_v in_o and_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o earth_n become_v the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o lord_n etc._n etc._n for_o here_o in_o the_o letter_n jerusalem_n now_o small_a shall_v be_v inhabit_v as_o cowne_v without_o wall_n for_o the_o multitude_n of_o man_n and_o cattle_n therein_o and_o by_o this_o type_n the_o enlargement_n of_o the_o gospel-church_n be_v hold_v forth_o which_o we_o be_v still_o command_v to_o pray_v for_o 6._o as_o the_o lord_n may_v employ_v who_o he_o please_v even_o young_a man_n and_o make_v they_o fit_a and_o able_a for_o his_o work_n so_o whosoever_o time_n and_o when_o they_o be_v weak_a safe_o protect_v they_o by_o bridle_a enemy_n by_o his_o secret_a hand_n by_o make_v the_o church_n find_v favour_n in_o their_o eye_n or_o make_v their_o attempt_n as_o ineffectual_a as_o if_o they_o will_v essay_n to_o go_v through_o a_o fire_n and_o even_o when_o his_o church_n taste_v of_o trouble_n yet_o she_o be_v not_o seclude_v from_o his_o protection_n nor_o expose_v to_o the_o will_n of_o enemy_n and_o what_o they_o do_v against_o she_o shall_v be_v as_o prejudicial_a to_o they_o as_o if_o they_o have_v go_v through_o a_o burn_a fire_n i_o say_v the_o lord_n will_v be_v unto_o she_o a_o wall_n of_o fire_n round_o about_o do_v import_v all_o this_o 3._o as_o the_o lord_n presence_n with_o and_o among_o a_o people_n be_v their_o one_o of_o another_o and_o cast_v among_o stranger_n with_o who_o they_o can_v have_v no_o communion_n especial_o in_o ordinance_n i_o scatter_v they_o among_o all_o the_o nation_n who_o they_o know_v even_o the_o pleasant_a land_n be_v desolate_a 6._o albeit_o all_o calamity_n for_o sin_n be_v to_o be_v ascribe_v unto_o god_n as_o the_o author_n and_o inflict_a thereof_o in_o justice_n yet_o god_n deal_n and_o blessing_n which_o they_o have_v foretell_v and_o have_v real_o come_v on_o they_o since_o they_o begin_v to_o bulld_n and_o be_v yet_o more_o to_o be_v let_v forth_o upon_o they_o v._o 9_o 10_o 11_o 12._o and_o that_o god_n be_v to_o make_v they_o as_o remarkable_a a_o example_n of_o his_o blessing_n as_o they_o have_v be_v of_o his_o curse_n v._o 13._o and_o will_v as_o ministry_n of_o jew_n and_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v much_o honoverd_v because_o of_o their_o enjoy_n the_o true_a religion_n v._o 20_o 21_o 22_o 23._o verse_n 1._o a_o gain_n the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o host_n come_v to_o i_o say_v 2._o thus_o say_v the_o lord_n of_o host_n i_o be_v jealous_a for_o zion_n with_o great_a jealousy_n and_o i_o be_v jealous_a for_o she_o with_o great_a she_o shall_v be_v eminent_a in_o her_o duty_n and_o the_o privilege_n and_o mercy_n follow_v thereupon_o shall_v be_v as_o visible_a as_o if_o they_o be_v her_o name_n 4._o it_o be_v the_o great_a honour_n of_o a_o people_n to_o enjoy_v and_o sincere_o to_o adhere_v unto_o and_o profess_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n as_o he_o have_v reveal_v it_o in_o his_o word_n to_o adorn_v that_o profession_n with_o fidelity_n and_o uprighteness_n in_o matter_n of_o the_o second_o table_n and_o to_o be_v the_o people_n to_o who_o god_n verifi_v the_o truth_n of_o his_o promise_n so_o be_v we_o here_o teach_v jerusalâ—m_n shall_v be_v call_v a_o city_n of_o truth_n in_o place_n of_o her_o idolatry_n and_o corrupt_v the_o worship_n of_o god_n her_o double_a deal_n in_o her_o conversation_n and_o her_o feeling_n the_o sad_a fruit_n of_o threaten_n 5._o to_o have_v relation_n unto_o god_n and_o be_v own_v as_o he_o speak_v much_o honour_n to_o a_o people_n that_o he_o unto_o who_o all_o thing_n that_o of_o their_o strength_n as_o be_v their_o sure_a refuge_n and_o that_o which_o make_v they_o strong_a the_o lord_n will_v defend_v jerusalem_n &_o he_o that_o be_v feeble_a shall_v be_v as_o david_n etc._n etc._n 3._o however_o the_o lord_n may_v keep_v his_o people_n in_o a_o low_a &_o weak_a condition_n for_o their_o exercise_n yet_o he_o have_v undertake_v to_o let_v out_o proof_n of_o his_o strength_n in_o they_o in_o a_o time_n of_o need_n in_o a_o singular_a way_n and_o will_v make_v their_o weakness_n in_o themselves_o a_o presage_n of_o their_o be_v strengthen_v in_o he_o he_o that_o be_v feeble_a among_o they_o at_o that_o day_n shall_v be_v as_o david_n 4._o none_o do_v attain_v in_o this_o life_n to_o that_o measure_n of_o strength_n and_o courage_n but_o they_o do_v yet_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o more_o and_o aught_o to_o be_v on_o the_o grow_a hand_n for_o the_o house_n of_o david_n need_v a_o promise_n of_o this_o as_o well_o as_o the_o feeble_a 5._o as_o christ_n will_v be_v unto_o his_o church_n in_o her_o need_n whatever_o he_o have_v be_v unto_o she_o at_o any_o time_n so_o what_o christ_n be_v that_o be_v believer_n in_o he_o their_o head_n as_o they_o need_v it_o all_o fullness_n dwell_v in_o he_o for_o their_o behoof_n for_o as_o christ_n have_v be_v as_o on_o angel_n of_o god_n before_o that_o people_n so_o will_v he_o be_v yet_o and_o the_o house_n of_o david_n so_o in_o he_o verse_n 9_o and_o it_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v in_o that_o day_n that_o i_o will_v seek_v to_o destroy_v all_o the_o nation_n that_o come_v against_o jerusalem_n in_o the_o seven_o promise_n god_n purpose_n of_o destroy_v the_o church_n enemy_n be_v repear_v and_o confirm_v that_o though_o they_o be_v never_o so_o many_o yet_o god_n will_v destroy_v they_o and_o will_v be_v serious_a in_o effectuate_a it_o seek_v out_o secret_a plotter_n as_o well_o as_o open_a enemy_n or_o seek_v they_o out_o after_o they_o be_v scatter_v and_o their_o enterprise_n frustrate_v to_o ruin_v they_o doct._n 1._o the_o lord_n church_n have_v many_o enemy_n both_o open_a and_o secret_a enemy_n stand_v yet_o unbroken_a and_o these_o who_o though_o they_o be_v break_v yet_o remain_v enemy_n for_o there_o be_v a_o all_o of_o the_o nation_n that_o come_v against_o jerusalem_n 2._o albeit_o some_o who_o persecute_v and_o oppose_v the_o church_n of_o god_n may_v find_v mercy_n to_o come_v and_o join_v with_o she_o and_o be_v save_v yet_o for_o the_o most_o part_n it_o be_v a_o token_n of_o so_o much_o displeasure_n and_o so_o many_o former_a controversy_n against_o man_n when_o they_o be_v leâ—t_v to_o themselves_o to_o be_v persecutor_n that_o their_o destruction_n only_o will_v end_v it_o i_o will_v destroy_v all_o the_o nation_n etc._n etc._n be_v the_o ordinary_a issue_n of_o their_o be_v enemy_n 3._o the_o lord_n be_v not_o slack_a or_o remiss_a in_o avenge_a injury_n do_v to_o the_o church_n but_o will_v do_v it_o as_o effectual_o as_o man_n do_v their_o most_o serious_a affair_n when_o they_o bend_v their_o wit_n to_o devise_v mean_n to_o câ—rry_v it_o well_o on_o and_o do_v pursue_v it_o to_o the_o uttermost_a this_o be_v import_v in_o that_o he_o will_v seek_v to_o destroy_v all_o the_o nation_n as_o be_v before_o explain_v verse_n 10._o and_o i_o will_v pour_v upon_o the_o house_n of_o david_n and_o upon_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n and_o of_o supplication_n and_o they_o shall_v look_v upon_o i_o who_o they_o have_v pierce_v and_o they_o shall_v mourn_v for_o plain_a from_o geâ—a_n to_o rimmon_n south_n of_o jerusalem_n and_o it_o shall_v be_v lift_v up_o 2._o long_o desolation_n of_o a_o church_n &_o the_o rubbish_n of_o country_n and_o city_n wherein_o god_n have_v a_o interest_n will_v be_v in_o due_a time_n remember_v and_o their_o calamity_n end_v in_o a_o complete_a restitution_n for_o so_o will_v jerusalem_n and_o that_o people_n find_v jerusatem_n shall_v be_v inhabit_v in_o her_o place_n etc._n etc._n and_o man_n shall_v dwell_v in_o it_o 3._o the_o lord_n will_v when_o he_o see_v it_o fit_a and_o his_o time_n be_v come_v not_o only_o restore_v his_o people_n but_o preserve_v they_o be_v restore_v and_o put_v a_o end_n to_o their_o calamity_n in_o so_o far_o as_o whatever_o trouble_n they_o may_v have_v to_o exercise_v they_o yet_o they_o shall_v not_o utter_o be_v destroy_v or_o lie_v under_o such_o calamity_n as_o may_v prove_v they_o devote_v to_o a_o curse_n for_o there_o shill_n be_v no_o more_o utter_a destruction_n or_o no_o more_o anathema_n 4._o the_o lord_n will_v sometime_o even_o give_v his_o people_n a_o breathe_n from_o trouble_n after_o long_o toss_v as_o well_o as_o exemption_n from_o ruin_n by_o their_o trouble_n when_o they_o come_v and_o however_o the_o church_n be_v not_o always_o so_o deal_v with_o yet_o she_o be_v the_o place_n of_o great_a security_n for_o habitation_n in_o all_o the_o world_n and_o where_o the_o lord_n people_n may_v take_v their_o hazard_n of_o any_o lot_n that_o may_v come_v with_o great_a confidence_n for_o jerusalem_n shall_v be_v safe_o inhabit_v or_o abide_v in_o confidence_n verse_n 12._o and_o this_o shall_v be_v the_o plague_n wherewith_o the_o lord_n will_v smite_v all_o the_o people_n that_o have_v fight_v against_o jerusalem_n their_o flesh_n shall_v consume_v away_o while_o they_o stand_v upon_o their_o foot_n and_o their_o eye_n shall_v consume_v away_o in_o their_o hole_n and_o their_o tongue_n shall_v consame_a away_o in_o their_o mouth_n in_o the_o six_o part_n of_o this_o prophecy_n the_o judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o the_o enemy_n and_o persecutor_n of_o the_o church_n and_o especial_o of_o convert_a israel_n be_v their_o own_o ruin_n for_o there_o be_v a_o plague_n for_o all_o the_o people_n that_o have_v fight_v against_o jerusalem_n 2._o the_o lord_n need_v neither_o army_n nor_o advantage_n of_o visible_a help_n or_o time_n wherewith_o to_o plague_v his_o enemy_n but_o as_o he_o usual_o reserve_v such_o for_o his_o own_o hand_n so_o he_o can_v so_o sudden_o and_o unexpected_o consume_v their_o strength_n and_o power_n as_o may_v make_v their_o ruin_n a_o wonder_n to_o themselves_o and_o other_o for_o their_o flesh_n shall_v consnme_v away_o while_o they_o stand_v upon_o their_o foot_n before_o they_o get_v so_o much_o as_o leisure_n to_o sit_v down_o and_o be_v sick_a some_o proof_n whereof_o be_v give_v on_o antiochus_n 1_o mac._n 6._o and_o herod_n act._n 12._o 3._o as_o man_n part_n of_o prudence_n or_o eloquence_n will_v prove_v nothing_o when_o god_n be_v a_o party_n so_o the_o insolency_n blasphemy_n and_o cruel_a hope_n of_o enemy_n to_o see_v the_o church_n ruin_v will_v be_v more_o severe_o avenge_v then_o their_o afflict_v otherwise_o and_o a_o end_n will_v be_v put_v to_o it_o by_o god_n plague_v they_o for_o this_o consume_a of_o their_o eye_n and_o tongue_n import_v not_o so_o much_o a_o consume_n of_o these_o particular_a member_n as_o in_o general_a a_o blast_a of_o their_o part_n and_o ability_n under_o this_o stroke_n whether_o of_o prudence_n in_o foresee_v and_o take_v up_o of_o thing_n or_o eloquence_n to_o express_v themselves_o whereby_o man_n have_v sometime_o expede_n themselves_o out_o of_o trouble_n and_o in_o great_a tumult_n from_o the_o lord_n shall_v be_v among_o they_o and_o they_o shall_v lay_v hold_v every_o one_o on_o the_o hand_n of_o his_o neighbour_n and_o his_o hand_n shall_v rise_v up_o
