when_o we_o be_v prepare_v to_o hear_v god_n word_n we_o shall_v pray_v god_n that_o he_o will_v prepare_v our_o heart_n and_o fit_v we_o for_o that_o service_n when_o we_o be_v busy_v in_o the_o act_n of_o hear_v we_o shall_v pray_v that_o god_n will_v direct_v we_o to_o lay_v hold_n on_o that_o which_o we_o find_v useful_a for_o we_o &_o after_o our_o hear_n we_o shall_v pray_v that_o god_n will_v bless_v our_o memory_n to_o keep_v the_o good_a lesson_n which_o we_o have_v hear_v this_o to_o be_v a_o laudable_a custom_n still_o to_o beg_v a_o blessing_n of_o god_n upon_o every_o endeavour_n of_o we_o no_o man_n i_o suppose_v will_v deny_v only_o perhaps_o some_o man_n may_v doubt_v how_o a_o man_n may_v pray_v in_o the_o time_n of_o his_o hear_n without_o hinder_v or_o interrupt_v the_o public_a and_o enjoin_v exercise_n then_o certain_o more_o necessary_a than_o any_o private_a prayer_n or_o devotion_n to_o this_o my_o answer_n be_v that_o the_o scripture_n itself_o do_v sufficient_o direct_v we_o herein_o there_o we_o read_v that_o nehemiah_n when_o the_o king_n be_v talk_v and_o confer_v with_o he_o about_o the_o affair_n of_o his_o people_n and_o the_o state_n of_o the_o holy_a land_n yet_o say_v of_o himself_o so_o i_o pray_v to_o the_o god_n of_o heaven_n and_o i_o say_v to_o the_o king_n if_o it_o please_v the_o king_n etc._n etc._n neh._n 2.4_o 5._o by_o this_o we_o see_v that_o nehemiah_n at_o the_o same_o time_n do_v both_o prey_n god_n for_o a_o blessing_n and_o continue_v his_o speech_n with_o the_o king_n which_o show_v that_o while_o he_o be_v talk_v with_o the_o king_n about_o those_o weighty_a affair_n of_o the_o church_n he_o dart_v up_o a_o jaculatory_a short_a prayer_n unto_o god_n either_o that_o he_o will_v direct_v the_o king_n heart_n for_o the_o good_a of_o his_o people_n or_o that_o he_o will_v prosper_v the_o business_n in_o hand_n or_o some_o such_o prayer_n to_o the_o like_a purpose_n and_o hence_o we_o have_v direction_n in_o this_o case_n when_o we_o hear_v a_o useful_a point_n that_o concern_v we_o much_o we_o may_v by_o a_o short_a prayer_n desire_v god_n blessing_n upon_o it_o for_o our_o good_a without_o hinder_v or_o divert_v away_o our_o attention_n from_o any_o part_n of_o the_o sermon_n for_o
