and_o commendation_n of_o faith_n that_o it_o look_v only_o towards_o the_o healthful_a and_o comfortable_a mountain_n which_o be_v in_o jerusalem_n &_o refuse_v the_o succour_n of_o all_o other_o mountain_n thus_o the_o prophet_n cast_v his_o eye_n aside_o as_o it_o be_v upon_o the_o wicked_a who_o forsake_v the_o help_n of_o the_o lord_n mercy_n and_o goodness_n which_o be_v then_o in_o jerusalem_n seek_v relief_n and_o succour_n in_o other_o mountain_n in_o like_a manner_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o romish_a antichrist_n there_o be_v infinite_a feet_n and_o swarm_n of_o monk_n and_o other_o superstitious_a votary_n some_o hold_v of_o augustine_n some_o of_o benedict_n some_o of_o francisce_n etc_n etc_n which_o by_o their_o vow_n and_o monastical_a life_n think_v to_o obtain_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n hope_v also_o by_o these_o comfort_n to_o overcome_v the_o terror_n of_o god_n wrath_n &_o heal_v the_o wound_n of_o conscience_n and_o this_o be_v always_o the_o inclination_n of_o man_n nature_n to_o follow_v his_o own_o way_n and_o to_o forsake_v the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n therefore_o david_n say_v some_o forsake_v the_o temple_n &_o abhor_v the_o mount_n zion_n but_o i_o abide_v in_o the_o simple_a way_n of_o faith_n &_o true_a religion_n which_o be_v the_o healthful_a hill_n that_o the_o lord_n himself_o have_v appoint_v in_o that_o he_o call_v it_o the_o healthful_a hill_n or_o the_o hill_n from_o whence_o help_n and_o succour_n come_v he_o reject_v and_o condemn_v all_o other_o hill_n which_o have_v a_o show_n of_o help_n and_o succour_v such_o i_o mean_v as_o be_v visible_o wrought_v in_o the_o service_n and_o honour_n do_v to_o the_o idol_n but_o true_a help_n they_o give_v none_o so_o the_o jew_n say_v that_o baal_n show_v more_o present_a help_n in_o the_o temple_n then_o god_n so_o they_o cry_v in_o jeremy_n we_o will_v do_v sacrifice_n to_o the_o queen_n of_o heaven_n but_o thy_o commandment_n we_o will_v not_o do_v for_o since_o we_o leave_v to_o do_v sacrifice_n to_o the_o queen_n of_o heaven_n the_o sword_n and_o famine_n have_v consume_v we_o and_o thus_o forsake_v the_o temple_n and_o the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n they_o run_v headlong_o to_o all_o impiety_n but_o you_o will_v say_v why_o will_v god_n that_o idolatry_n shall_v have_v such_o success_n even_o to_o try_v our_o faith_n and_o whether_o we_o do_v true_o believe_v and_o worship_v one_o god_n according_a to_o that_o commandment_n thou_o shall_v have_v none_o other_o god_n etc_n etc_n true_a it_o be_v in_o deed_n that_o idolatry_n have_v great_a success_n time_n yet_o be_v it_o but_o for_o a_o time_n so_o say_v king_n achas_n the_o god_n of_o the_o king_n of_o the_o syrian_n do_v help_v they_o therefore_o will_v i_o also_o seek_v their_o favour_n and_o they_o shall_v help_v i_o but_o what_o say_v the_o scripture_n the_o god_n of_o syria_n be_v the_o destruction_n both_o of_o they_o and_o of_o all_o israel_n and_o this_o be_v the_o end_n of_o all_o such_o false_a trust_n so_o do_v mammon_n likewise_o help_v his_o worshipper_n for_o he_o be_v a_o great_a god_n and_o bring_v to_o they_o liberty_n joy_n and_o comfort_n he_o lift_v they_o up_o to_o wealth_n and_o dignity_n he_o make_v they_o to_o swell_v with_o pride_n and_o glory_n comfort_n but_o how_o long_o for_o the_o time_n of_o this_o frail_a &_o brickle_a life_n but_o in_o death_n he_o do_v not_o only_o forsake_v they_o but_o drive_v they_o down_o to_o the_o deep_a pit_n of_o hell_n therefore_o whatsoever_o worldly_a and_o visible_a comfort_n and_o delight_n the_o heart_n of_o man_n can_v here_o desire_v or_o enjoy_v he_o find_v they_o uncertain_a and_o short_o must_v forsake_v they_o and_o yet_o withal_o they_o bring_v unspeakable_a torment_n and_o affliction_n of_o mind_n and_o lead_v man_n into_o such_o blindness_n that_o they_o have_v no_o regard_n of_o god_n at_o all_o who_o do_v not_o delight_v his_o true_a worshipper_n with_o vain_a pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n which_o endure_v but_o a_o moment_n but_o replenish_v they_o with_o everlasting_a joy_n for_o thus_o he_o say_v i_o will_v see_v you_o again_o and_o your_o heart_n shall_v rejoice_v and_o your_o joy_n no_o man_n shall_v take_v from_o you_o let_v we_o learn_v therefore_o to_o cleave_v fast_o to_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n and_o those_o invisible_a comfort_n and_o if_o trouble_v come_v as_o we_o can_v not_o look_v to_o be_v without_o a_o cross_n if_o we_o seem_v to_o be_v desolate_a and_o destitute_a of_o all_o comfort_n yet_o god_n have_v a_o time_n when_o he_o will_v show_v himself_o to_o have_v a_o care_n of_o we_o and_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o the_o affliction_n of_o this_o life_n be_v not_o to_o be_v compare_v to_o the_o glory_n which_o shall_v be_v reveil_v on_o we_o as_o s._n paul_n comfort_v us._n this_o be_v then_o the_o sense_n and_o meaning_n of_o this_o verse_n that_o faith_n be_v a_o knowledge_n of_o thing_n invisible_a and_o yet_o to_o be_v look_v for_o lest_o we_o shall_v think_v it_o to_o be_v but_o a_o mere_a speculation_n as_o some_o do_v make_v it_o there_o be_v thing_n to_o be_v look_v for_o of_o the_o which_o we_o have_v experience_n in_o this_o life_n that_o be_v to_o say_v a_o good_a conscience_n a_o joyful_a heart_n a_o invincible_a faith_n which_o be_v able_a to_o stand_v against_o all_o storm_n of_o tentation_n against_o poverty_n envy_n reproach_n and_o slander_v of_o the_o world_n against_o error_n and_o false_a doctrine_n and_o even_o against_o death_n itself_o thus_o we_o must_v learn_v to_o know_v the_o nature_n of_o faith_n namely_o that_o it_o be_v a_o will_n or_o knowledge_n or_o a_o expectation_n rest_v upon_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o word_n show_v and_o set_v forth_o unto_o we_o invisible_a help_n and_o yet_o to_o be_v look_v for_o as_o certain_a and_o unfallible_a and_o although_o we_o think_v it_o long_o before_o they_o come_v yet_o will_v they_o come_v when_o it_o shall_v be_v most_o to_o our_o joy_n &_o comfort_n and_o this_o be_v it_o that_o these_o word_n of_o the_o prophet_n do_v here_o express_v i_o lift_v up_o my_o eye_n to_o the_o hill_n from_o whence_o my_o help_n come_v here_o he_o show_v himself_o to_o be_v destitute_a of_o help_n and_o succour_n and_o yet_o in_o sure_a hope_n and_o expectation_n thereof_o he_o look_v up_o unto_o those_o hill_n and_o hope_v for_o invisible_a comfort_n in_o like_a manner_n must_v we_o do_v also_o i_o be_o in_o distress_n or_o affliction_n of_o body_n or_o mind_n i_o be_o in_o necessity_n and_o can_v see_v no_o mean_n how_o to_o live_v how_o to_o maintain_v my_o family_n how_o to_o escape_v this_o danger_n or_o that_o here_o be_v the_o heart_n oftentimes_o oppress_v with_o sorrow_n and_o miserable_o vex_v as_o though_o there_o be_v no_o succour_n no_o comfort_n nor_o remedy_n to_o be_v find_v but_o here_o must_v we_o be_v certain_o persuade_v that_o there_o be_v help_v and_o succour_v prepare_v for_o we_o and_o the_o time_n thereof_o also_o appoint_v of_o god_n although_o we_o know_v not_o when_o it_o shall_v be_v but_o by_o this_o we_o may_v learn_v what_o a_o hard_a matter_n it_o be_v to_o believe_v when_o the_o heart_n must_v yield_v and_o consent_n to_o any_o thing_n contrary_a to_o that_o which_o both_o we_o see_v hear_v &_o feel_v i_o myself_o have_v be_v oftentimes_o in_o wonderful_a great_a danger_n when_o the_o whole_a world_n as_o it_o be_v conspire_v against_o i_o for_o the_o pope_n my_o mortal_a enemy_n and_o the_o enemy_n of_o my_o christ_n do_v not_o cease_v to_o stir_v up_o against_o i_o what_o power_n and_o terror_n so_o ever_o he_o be_v able_a to_o devise_v here_o reason_n will_v rather_o persuade_v i_o to_o keep_v silence_n and_o say_v nothing_o then_o to_o teach_v and_o bring_v myself_o thereby_o into_o trouble_n and_o danger_n lord_n for_o reason_n can_v never_o see_v the_o lord_n marvellous_a help_n and_o deliverance_n which_o be_v invisible_a and_o hide_a from_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n therefore_o it_o think_v only_o of_o that_o which_o it_o see_v that_o be_v to_o say_v destruction_n in_o all_o these_o storm_n how_o my_o mind_n be_v establish_v in_o god_n what_o my_o faith_n and_o hope_n be_v i_o will_v here_o say_v nothing_o albeit_o in_o these_o great_a danger_n i_o grant_v my_o mind_n be_v oftentimes_o trouble_v and_o yet_o at_o the_o length_n the_o invisible_a help_n of_o god_n be_v hide_v from_o my_o eye_n and_o from_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n appear_v so_o that_o not_o only_o my_o deadly_a and_o mighty_a
understanding_n thereof_o into_o a_o fantasy_n of_o their_o own_o imagination_n for_o the_o prophet_n do_v know_v that_o the_o true_a god_n although_o he_o be_v of_o himself_o and_o of_o his_o own_o nature_n infinite_a and_o incomprehensible_a be_v include_v notwithstanding_o in_o the_o mercieseat_n whereunto_o he_o have_v bind_v himself_o by_o his_o word_n and_o promise_n wherefore_o although_o they_o call_v he_o the_o god_n of_o heaven_n &_o maker_n of_o all_o thing_n yet_o this_o have_v they_o as_o a_o more_o near_o &_o proper_a token_n of_o the_o true_a god_n that_o they_o know_v he_o to_o have_v his_o dwell_n in_o zion_n when_o they_o pray_v therefore_o unto_o god_n or_o talk_v of_o god_n they_o do_v it_o according_a to_o that_o form_n and_o manner_n whereby_o god_n have_v reveil_v himself_o in_o his_o word_n and_o promise_n albeit_o therefore_o the_o prophet_n make_v no_o mention_n in_o this_o place_n of_o that_o tabernacle_n or_o promise_n but_o seem_v to_o speak_v unto_o god_n simple_o and_o without_o all_o respect_n thereof_o yet_o we_o must_v understand_v that_o he_o speak_v not_o otherwise_o to_o god_n then_o as_o he_o be_v set_v forth_o in_o his_o word_n say_v unto_o philip_n he_o that_o see_v i_o see_v my_o father_n no_o man_n come_v unto_o my_o father_n but_o by_o i_o when_o we_o have_v attain_v this_o knowledge_n then_o may_v we_o safe_o worship_v god_n and_o call_v upon_o he_o as_o he_o be_v the_o maker_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o so_o shall_v we_o undoubted_o find_v he_o for_o although_o of_o himself_o and_o when_o he_o be_v not_o thus_o reveil_v he_o be_v unsearchable_a and_o not_o to_o be_v find_v yet_o in_o his_o word_n and_o promise_n wherein_o he_o wrap_v himself_o he_o will_v both_o be_v find_v &_o know_v of_o they_o that_o will_v there_o seek_v after_o he_o the_o jew_n therefore_o pray_v before_o the_o ark_n worship_v the_o true_a god_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n for_o god_n by_o his_o word_n have_v promise_v that_o he_o will_v be_v there_o present_a &_o there_o will_v hear_v the_o prayer_n of_o his_o people_n even_o so_o we_o likewise_o look_v unto_o christ_n &_o worship_v he_o do_v worship_n the_o true_a god_n for_o he_o have_v reveil_v himself_o in_o christ_n therefore_o christ_n say_v what_o so_o ever_o you_o shall_v ask_v the_o father_n in_o my_o name_n he_o will_v give_v it_o you_o they_o sentence_n also_o to_o be_v understand_v wherein_o be_v add_v no_o manifest_a signification_n of_o the_o place_n or_o of_o the_o temple_n as_o in_o this_o place_n out_o of_o the_o depth_n have_v i_o god_n which_o forgive_v sin_n and_o be_v this_o god_n any_o other_o than_o the_o same_o which_o say_v unto_o the_o serpent_n the_o seed_n of_o the_o woman_n shall_v bruise_v thy_o head_n therefore_o he_o take_v god_n here_o as_o a_o promise_n maker_n and_o show_v that_o christ_n be_v promise_v of_o the_o father_n to_o be_v a_o sacrifice_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o world_n and_o here_o the_o prophet_n set_v forth_o unto_o we_o a_o principal_a point_n of_o doctrine_n touch_v christian_n righteousness_n christian_a wisdom_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o christ_n these_o thing_n david_n treat_v like_a unto_o a_o emperor_n wherefore_o as_o the_o noble_a man_n and_o chief_a magistrate_n be_v minister_n unto_o the_o emperor_n and_o be_v the_o principal_a part_n of_o his_o kingdom_n so_o in_o whole_o bend_v to_o seek_v and_o advance_v the_o glory_n of_o the_o everliving_a god_n so_o be_v these_o either_o inflame_a with_o a_o devilish_a desire_n to_o maintain_v &_o set_v forth_o damnable_a doctrine_n wicked_a opinion_n and_o false_a worship_n be_v whole_o give_v over_o to_o serve_v the_o god_n of_o this_o world_n and_o their_o god_n mammon_n seek_v with_o greediness_n and_o pleasure_n their_o own_o perdition_n &_o damnation_n and_o so_o albeit_o they_o be_v already_o whole_o possess_v in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o devil_n yet_o be_v they_o merry_a and_o joyful_a but_o the_o end_n be_v a_o false_a definition_n of_o the_o temple_n which_o the_o papist_n make_v that_o it_o be_v a_o house_n build_v with_o stone_n &_o timber_n to_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n what_o this_o temple_n be_v they_o themselves_o know_v not_o for_o the_o temple_n of_o solomon_n be_v not_o therefore_o beautiful_a because_o it_o be_v adorn_v with_o gold_n and_o silver_n and_o other_o precious_a ornament_n but_o the_o true_a beauty_n of_o that_o temple_n be_v because_o in_o that_o place_n the_o people_n hear_v the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n call_v upon_o his_o name_n find_v he_o merciful_a whereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o resist_v most_o manifest_a impiety_n which_o by_o the_o strong_a &_o mighty_a delusion_n of_o the_o devil_n overflow_v the_o world_n as_o in_o pilgrimage_n where_o they_o maintain_v most_o damnable_a idolatry_n and_o cause_v the_o people_n to_o adore_v the_o work_n of_o their_o own_o hand_n and_o if_o any_o man_n speak_v against_o they_o he_o be_v up_o and_o by_o take_v and_o burn_v as_o a_o heretic_n so_o true_a be_v it_o that_o when_o the_o word_n be_v once_o lose_v the_o world_n remain_v in_o most_o horrible_a darkness_n and_o can_v do_v nothing_o else_o but_o abuse_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o so_o fall_v to_o most_o detestable_a impiety_n or_o else_o to_o desperation_n this_o david_n foresee_v and_o therefore_o he_o pray_v so_o earnest_o for_o the_o prosperity_n of_o jerusalem_n for_o faithful_a pastor_n in_o the_o church_n and_o godly_a prince_n in_o the_o politic_a state_n verse_n 8._o for_o my_o brethren_n and_o neighbour_n sake_n i_o will_v wish_v thou_o now_o prosperity_n here_o david_n show_v the_o cause_n as_o he_o do_v also_o in_o the_o verse_n follow_v why_o he_o pray_v thus_o such_o intolerable_a injury_n horrible_a blasphemy_n cruel_a torment_n and_o bloody_a slaughter_n of_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n for_o the_o flesh_n have_v no_o wall_n no_o munition_n to_o defend_v it_o but_o the_o spirit_n therefore_o the_o flesh_n be_v in_o danger_n to_o all_o storm_n and_o tempest_n break_a &_o tread_v down_o of_o the_o wicked_a as_o isaiah_n say_v chap._n 51._o which_o have_v say_v unto_o thy_o soul_n bow_v down_o that_o we_o may_v go_v over_o thou_o have_v lay_v thy_o body_n as_o the_o ground_n and_o as_o the_o street_n to_o they_o that_o go_v over_o these_o affliction_n we_o must_v needs_o suffer_v and_o by_o patience_n overcome_v they_o &_o withal_o we_o must_v beware_v that_o by_o these_o outward_a affliction_n the_o inward_a man_n be_v not_o weaken_v or_o overcome_v rest_v in_o this_o assure_a hope_n and_o trust_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v never_o forsake_v we_o but_o that_o we_o be_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o father_n and_o be_v close_v within_o most_o sure_a and_o strong_a hold_n so_o that_o now_o although_o our_o good_n our_o wife_n our_o child_n yea_o and_o our_o life_n also_o be_v take_v from_o we_o yet_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v spoil_v of_o our_o christ_n by_o who_o we_o be_v so_o sure_o defend_v that_o in_o the_o mid_n of_o all_o our_o tentation_n he_o will_v make_v away_o for_o we_o to_o escape_v or_o else_o geve_v we_o strength_n to_o bear_v they_o thus_o we_o see_v what_o consolation_n the_o holy_a ghost_n set_v forth_o unto_o they_o which_o believe_v the_o word_n for_o unto_o such_o as_o look_v for_o a_o better_a life_n than_o this_o all_o thing_n be_v here_o full_a of_o calamity_n and_o misery_n death_n follow_v death_n as_o paul_n say_v and_o we_o continual_o die_v one_o tentation_n follow_v a_o other_o until_o at_o the_o length_n by_o the_o death_n of_o the_o flesh_n all_o misery_n shall_v cease_v and_o have_v a_o end_n this_o verse_n therefore_o make_v much_o for_o our_o comfort_n admonish_v we_o that_o we_o must_v suffer_v many_o trouble_n yet_o so_o that_o at_o the_o length_n we_o shall_v be_v safe_a and_o set_v at_o liberty_n from_o they_o all_o though_o not_o in_o this_o life_n yet_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v and_o in_o eternal_a life_n and_o why_o shall_v we_o not_o thus_o bold_o promise_v unto_o ourselves_o remain_v under_o this_o diligent_a custody_n of_o the_o angel_n yea_o of_o the_o lord_n himself_o which_o be_v always_o round_o about_o his_o people_n but_o here_o as_o before_o i_o say_v we_o have_v need_n of_o faith_n that_o we_o may_v judge_v herein_o not_o according_a to_o our_o present_a trouble_n and_o tentation_n but_o according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o promise_n and_o what_o shall_v we_o need_v any_o promise_n if_o there_o be_v no_o tentation_n which_o tentation_n whether_o they_o be_v within_o in_o the_o spirit_n or_o without_o in_o the_o flesh_n the_o time_n shall_v come_v when_o we_o through_o christ_n shall_v have_v full_a victory_n hereof_o as_o this_o verse_n full_a of_o sweet_a consolation_n do_v promise_n unto_o us._n notwithstanding_o this_o promise_n seem_v incredible_a both_o to_o we_o which_o suffer_v and_o also_o to_o they_o which_o persecute_v and_o afflict_v we_o for_o if_o we_o behold_v the_o same_o with_o our_o outward_a eye_n what_o can_v be_v more_o false_a yea_o the_o contrary_n seem_v to_o be_v most_o true_a behold_v our_o saviour_n christ_n be_v he_o not_o so_o forsake_v hang_v upon_o the_o cross_n that_o the_o rod_n or_o sceptre_n of_o the_o wicked_a rest_v upon_o he_o do_v it_o not_o rest_v likewise_o upon_o the_o prophet_n the_o apostle_n and_o other_o holy_a martyr_n this_o matter_n then_o if_o we_o consider_v it_o with_o our_o outward_a eye_n have_v a_o other_o meaning_n then_o the_o word_n do_v import_v for_o they_o promise_v that_o the_o sceptre_n of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v have_v no_o power_n over_o the_o godly_a and_o yet_o all_o story_n and_o example_n do_v testify_v the_o contrary_n therefore_o the_o holy_a ghost_n call_v we_o back_o to_o the_o purpose_n &_o counsel_n of_o god_n reveil_v in_o his_o word_n and_o command_v we_o to_o weigh_v and_o consider_v not_o what_o we_o suffer_v and_o with_o our_o outward_a eye_n behold_v but_o what_o be_v decree_v with_o the_o lord_n in_o heaven_n and_o he_o that_o can_v so_o sequester_n himself_o from_o the_o behold_n of_o his_o affliction_n and_o tentation_n and_o yield_v himself_o whole_o over_o to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n &_o there_o rest_n be_v a_o right_n divine_a yea_o he_o that_o be_v ignorant_a hereof_o in_o true_a divinity_n know_v nothing_o at_o al._n for_o what_o know_v he_o which_o be_v ignorant_a that_o god_n be_v such_o a_o god_n as_o will_v not_o suffer_v the_o godly_a to_o be_v oppress_v of_o the_o wicked_a for_o see_v he_o have_v say_v i_o be_o the_o lord_n thy_o god_n he_o will_v never_o suffer_v that_o which_o be_v his_o own_o to_o be_v wrest_v either_o by_o the_o world_n or_o by_o the_o gate_n of_o hell_n out_o of_o his_o hand_n if_o he_o then_o abide_v and_o continue_v they_o shall_v also_o continue_v for_o ever_o which_o be_v he_o thus_o to_o believe_v and_o thus_o to_o lay_v hold_n on_o thing_n invisible_a be_v true_a divinity_n and_o true_a spiritual_a wisdom_n in_o deed_n whereupon_o we_o may_v ground_v this_o proposition_n out_o of_o the_o invisible_a counsel_n of_o god_n god_n hate_v the_o wicked_a &_o love_v the_o just_a ergo_fw-la he_o will_v damn_v and_o destroy_v the_o wicked_a and_o will_v deliver_v and_o save_v the_o just_a and_o here_o we_o see_v that_o which_o be_v the_o chief_a thing_n in_o all_o the_o psalm_n and_o prophet_n to_o spring_v out_o of_o the_o first_o precept_n i_o be_o the_o lord_n thy_o god._n now_o have_v we_o to_o learn_v how_o we_o may_v apply_v this_o verse_n right_o and_o to_o our_o comfort_n for_o true_a divinity_n consist_v in_o use_n and_o practice_v we_o be_v vex_v on_o every_o side_n with_o cruel_a bishop_n wicked_a prince_n and_o other_o which_o hate_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o the_o doctrine_n which_o we_o profess_v but_o these_o be_v very_a trifle_n if_o you_o compare_v they_o with_o those_o vexation_n which_o satan_n sin_n and_o our_o own_o infirmity_n raise_v up_o in_o our_o conscience_n we_o must_v learn_v therefore_o thus_o to_o judge_v of_o all_o these_o thing_n that_o they_o be_v the_o rod_n or_o sceptre_n of_o the_o wicked_a and_o to_o set_v the_o lord_n against_o they_o reveal_v his_o will_n here_o in_o his_o word_n and_o pronounce_v that_o he_o will_v not_o suffer_v the_o sceptre_n of_o the_o wicked_a to_o rest_v upon_o the_o godly_a see_v then_o the_o same_o prince_n promise_v thus_o much_o unto_o we_o which_o have_v all_o thing_n in_o his_o hand_n what_o can_v we_o require_v more_o for_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v certain_a that_o though_o he_o suffer_v we_o to_o be_v afflict_v yet_o will_v he_o not_o see_v we_o tread_v under_o foot_n or_o perish_v thus_o must_v we_o apply_v these_o sweet_a consolation_n what_o the_o rod_n signify_v in_o the_o scripture_n it_o be_v well_o know_v children_n when_o they_o be_v young_a be_v correct_v with_o a_o rod_n &_o when_o they_o wax_v big_a with_o a_o wand_n or_o a_o cudgel_n and_o if_o they_o will_v not_o so_o amend_v then_o follow_v the_o iron_n rod_n hereof_o it_o come_v that_o the_o rod_n signify_v all_o power_n and_o rule_v which_o be_v for_o the_o amendment_n and_o correction_n of_o such_o as_o do_v offend_v so_o be_v it_o take_v in_o the_o 110._o psalm_n the_o lord_n shall_v send_v forth_o the_o rod_n of_o thy_o power_n out_o of_o zion_n that_o be_v to_o say_v thy_o kingdom_n for_o there_o he_o signify_v such_o a_o rod_n whereby_o kingdom_n and_o people_n be_v govern_v on_o this_o wise_a the_o
first_o of_o all_o here_o be_v to_o be_v note_v that_o the_o prophet_n do_v not_o by_o and_o by_o enter_v iâ—ts_n the_o promise_n of_o god_n concern_v matrimony_n as_o though_o they_o be_v give_v only_o in_o respect_n of_o matrimony_n but_o he_o begin_v with_o the_o first_o table_n &_o call_v he_o bless_v that_o fear_v the_o lord_n and_o this_o he_o do_v to_o show_v that_o the_o world_n do_v not_o understand_v what_o it_o be_v to_o marry_v a_o wife_n and_o to_o live_v in_o the_o state_n of_o christian_a matrimony_n wherefore_o if_o any_o trouble_n come_v it_o can_v not_o bear_v they_o patient_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o bless_v but_o rather_o miserable_a and_o unhappy_a but_o he_o that_o fear_v the_o lord_n whether_o he_o be_v call_v to_o any_o government_n in_o the_o common_a weal_n or_o marry_v a_o wife_n be_v bless_v what_o success_n so_o ever_o follow_v thereof_o for_o it_o may_v be_v that_o even_o they_o also_o which_o fear_v the_o lord_n shall_v have_v no_o good_a success_n in_o matrimony_n but_o shall_v be_v couple_v either_o with_o wicked_a or_o with_o froward_a and_o disobedient_a wife_n or_o else_o they_o shall_v be_v otherwise_o shake_v with_o one_o tentation_n or_o other_o as_o with_o the_o untimely_a death_n of_o a_o good_a wife_n or_o with_o untractable_a and_o degenerate_a child_n or_o with_o barrenness_n &_o lack_n of_o fruit_n here_o if_o a_o man_n be_v godly_a and_o fear_v god_n he_o shall_v soon_o overcome_v these_o trouble_n &_o tentation_n for_o thus_o will_v he_o think_v with_o himself_o i_o have_v meet_v with_o such_o a_o wife_n as_o be_v unto_o i_o many_o way_n a_o great_a cross_n and_o vexation_n with_o who_o no_o man_n else_o can_v quiet_o live_v one_o day_n but_o this_o gift_n god_n have_v give_v i_o that_o i_o shall_v gift_n be_v overcome_v not_o only_o all_o the_o trouble_n and_o misery_n of_o matrimony_n but_o all_o calamity_n beside_o what_o so_o ever_o the_o prophet_n therefore_o begin_v this_o holy_a hymn_n or_o this_o marriage_n song_n after_o this_o manner_n if_o thou_o will_v be_v happy_a and_o bless_a &_o have_v a_o mind_n to_o live_v in_o the_o state_n of_o matrimony_n this_o shall_v thou_o find_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v give_v unto_o thou_o a_o wife_n house_n and_o child_n with_o other_o commodity_n but_o above_o all_o thing_n see_v that_o thou_o fear_v god_n and_o in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n begin_v this_o kind_n of_o life_n this_o be_v a_o profitable_a doctrine_n which_o here_o the_o holy_a ghost_n set_v forth_o even_o at_o the_o beginning_n to_o the_o end_n that_o he_o which_o can_v not_o live_v a_o single_a life_n shall_v begin_v his_o matrimony_n with_o the_o first_o commandment_n and_o call_v upon_o god_n for_o his_o help_n &_o succour_n shall_v come_v forth_o into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o say_v lord_n thou_o say_v unto_o i_o in_o thy_o word_n that_o thou_o be_v and_o will_v be_v my_o lord_n and_o my_o god_n thou_o have_v make_v i_o a_o man_n or_o thou_o have_v make_v i_o a_o woman_n this_o be_v thine_o own_o creation_n and_o this_o be_v thou_o own_o work_n i_o do_v not_o so_o make_v myself_o neither_o be_v i_o so_o make_v by_o fortune_n or_o thing_n come_v lucky_o to_o pass_v then_o shall_v they_o have_v good_a success_n the_o holy_a ghost_n begin_v his_o holy_a hymn_n after_o a_o other_o manner_n than_o other_o poet_n do_v for_o he_o exhort_v we_o that_o we_o shall_v first_o of_o all_o call_n upon_o god_n and_o conceive_v in_o our_o heart_n a_o sure_a trust_n of_o his_o mercy_n for_o god_n will_v not_o turn_v his_o ear_n from_o thou_o if_o thou_o call_v he_o thy_o creator_n but_o will_v again_o acknowledge_v thou_o to_o be_v his_o creature_n and_o will_v not_o deny_v this_o to_o be_v his_o work_n that_o thou_o be_v a_o man_n or_o that_o thou_o be_v a_o woman_n but_o presumption_n he_o abhor_v and_o will_v not_o have_v thou_o to_o begin_v this_o kind_n of_o life_n trust_v in_o thine_o own_o policy_n but_o rather_o that_o thou_o shall_v suspect_v the_o same_o know_v that_o god_n will_v not_o prosper_v thy_o do_n and_o policy_n except_o thou_o ask_v counsel_n of_o he_o therefore_o say_v he_o bless_a be_v the_o man_n that_o fear_v the_o lord_n for_o we_o have_v daily_a example_n before_o our_o eye_n that_o at_o the_o beginning_n there_o be_v often_o time_n vehement_a and_o fervent_a love_n between_o man_n and_o wife_n which_o afterward_o be_v easy_o quench_v so_o that_o either_o they_o live_v miserable_o and_o unquiet_o together_o or_o else_o the_o one_o forsake_v the_o other_o some_o time_n they_o be_v so_o drown_v in_o wealth_n and_o pleasure_n that_o they_o live_v all_o together_o without_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o this_o be_v a_o far_o great_a misery_n but_o worthy_o do_v these_o misery_n and_o calamity_n fall_v upon_o they_o for_o why_o do_v they_o not_o join_v withal_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n here_o thou_o must_v learn_v therefore_o to_o live_v in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n who_o have_v create_v thou_o that_o thou_o shall_v be_v a_o husband_n or_o that_o thou_o shall_v be_v a_o wife_n and_o he_o will_v also_o govern_v bless_v and_o prosper_v thy_o marriage_n but_o if_o thou_o will_v not_o acknowledge_v he_o to_o be_v thy_o governor_n but_o will_v rule_v thy_o wife_n and_o thy_o family_n after_o thine_o own_o fantasy_n without_o invocation_n and_o prayer_n unto_o god_n it_o will_v follow_v that_o either_o thou_o shall_v overthrow_v all_o together_o or_o shall_v be_v so_o blind_v with_o continual_a success_n that_o thou_o shall_v fall_v yet_o into_o far_o great_a evil_n god_n will_v be_v fear_v and_o serve_v that_o be_v he_o will_v have_v we_o to_o confess_v and_o acknowledge_v that_o what_o so_o ever_o we_o take_v in_o hand_n can_v not_o prosper_v or_o have_v any_o good_a success_n without_o his_o help_n and_o assistance_n it_o be_v very_o profitable_a and_o necessary_a with_o all_o diligence_n to_o teach_v this_o doctrine_n to_o those_o which_o be_v yet_o young_a that_o they_o may_v know_v it_o and_o follow_v it_o the_o cause_n be_v this_o for_o that_o matrimony_n remain_v in_o the_o world_n and_o in_o the_o flesh_n that_o be_v to_o say_v even_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o devil_n the_o husband_n as_o touch_v the_o flesh_n soon_o loathe_v or_o hate_v the_o wife_n or_o the_o wife_n her_o husband_n what_o be_v the_o cause_n hereof_o even_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n for_o that_o matrimony_n consist_v in_o the_o flesh_n which_o be_v whole_o corrupt_a &_o poison_a with_o sin_n this_o the_o flesh_n i_o mean_v satan_n inflame_v with_o hatred_n and_o every_o light_a offence_n or_o else_o with_o jealousy_n wherefore_o if_o thou_o look_v not_o unto_o the_o will_n of_o god_n thy_o matrimony_n can_v never_o be_v unto_o thou_o either_o stable_n or_o comfortable_a wherefore_o youth_n must_v be_v well_o instruct_v as_o touch_v matrimony_n that_o when_o any_o man_n shall_v marry_v a_o wife_n he_o may_v live_v with_o she_o in_o the_o favour_n and_o blessing_n of_o god_n and_o say_v lord_n this_o be_v thy_o gift_n that_o i_o be_o a_o man_n this_o wife_n also_o be_v thy_o gift_n we_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o this_o frail_a flesh_n and_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o devil_n the_o disturber_n of_o matrimonial_a love_n give_v unto_o we_o therefore_o thy_o blessing_n that_o albeit_o some_o offence_n do_v rise_v between_o we_o yet_o thy_o blessing_n and_o the_o reverend_a consideration_n of_o thy_o gift_n wherewith_o thou_o have_v endue_v we_o in_o this_o our_o matrimony_n may_v vanquish_v and_o overcome_v the_o same_o etc_n etc_n god_n do_v comprehend_v they_o that_o fear_v not_o god_n understand_v nothing_o hereof_o neither_o do_v the_o holy_a ghost_n here_o speak_v any_o thing_n of_o they_o verse_n 5._o the_o lord_n out_o of_o zion_n bless_v thou_o that_o thou_o may_v see_v the_o wealth_n of_o jerusalem_n all_o the_o day_n of_o thy_o life_n now_o after_o these_o high_a commendation_n of_o matrimony_n the_o holy_a ghost_n add_v a_o excellent_a prayer_n wherein_o he_o desire_v that_o god_n will_v bless_v more_o &_o more_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n and_o that_o for_o such_o marry_a person_n he_o will_v give_v peace_n and_o tranquillity_n to_o the_o common_a weal_n now_o all_o such_o prayer_n have_v a_o promise_n include_v that_o all_o thing_n shall_v come_v to_o pass_v as_o they_o do_v pray_v moreover_o where_o he_o add_v the_o lord_n out_o of_o zion_n etc_n etc_n he_o do_v it_o because_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n be_v at_o that_o time_n in_o zion_n therefore_o not_o only_o in_o heart_n they_o look_v towards_o that_o place_n as_o before_o we_o have_v declare_v but_o they_o turn_v their_o face_n also_o that_o way_n when_o they_o pray_v because_o god_n have_v promise_v that_o he_o will_v there_o dwell_v and_o there_o will_v receive_v the_o prayer_n and_o sacrifice_n of_o the_o people_n hereof_o come_v these_o say_n to_o pray_v before_o the_o lord_n to_o offer_v before_o the_o lord_n to_o appear_v before_o the_o lord_n that_o be_v to_o say_v in_o the_o tabernacle_n wherein_o be_v the_o ark_n and_o the_o mercy_n seat_n to_o the_o which_o god_n have_v bind_v himself_o that_o he_o will_v there_o be_v find_v wherefore_o they_o call_v this_o place_n the_o fortitude_n the_o kingdom_n the_o majesty_n the_o glory_n the_o beauty_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o lord_n as_o in_o the_o psalm_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o prophet_n be_v to_o be_v see_v after_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o publish_n of_o the_o gospel_n this_o place_n have_v a_o end_n wherefore_o we_o say_v not_o now_o god_n bless_v thou_o out_o of_o zion_n or_o out_o of_o his_o holy_a temple_n but_o through_o christ_n our_o lord_n for_o he_o be_v our_o true_a mercieseat_n whereof_o the_o mercy-seat_n will_n even_o christ._n but_o they_o which_o seek_v any_o thing_n without_o christ_n in_o their_o tentation_n shall_v feel_v by_o their_o own_o peril_n how_o dangerous_a a_o thing_n that_o be_v but_o you_o will_v say_v how_o do_v god_n now_o bless_v out_o of_o zion_n any_o more_o even_o so_o that_o thou_o shall_v see_v the_o wealth_n or_o prosperity_n of_o jerusalem_n that_o be_v to_o say_v god_n be_v accomplish_v it_o be_v so_o establish_v by_o the_o word_n that_o notwithstanding_o it_o have_v a_o certain_a condition_n annex_v unto_o it_o therefore_o many_o wicked_a king_n with_o all_o their_o family_n neglect_v this_o condition_n be_v utter_o destroy_v and_o other_o succeed_v they_o so_o that_o the_o temporal_a kingdom_n endure_v after_o a_o sort_n until_o the_o most_o holy_a one_o the_o king_n of_o king_n come_v who_o have_v continue_v this_o kingdom_n until_o this_o day_n and_o shall_v do_v for_o ever_o this_o condition_n therefore_o be_v add_v to_o beat_v down_o proud_a and_o this_o world_n become_v so_o proud_a that_o they_o will_v be_v count_v amongst_o the_o holy_a and_o of_o the_o world_n be_v so_o common_o take_v we_o see_v that_o not_o only_o the_o godly_a be_v mix_v with_o the_o wicked_a in_o this_o world_n but_o in_o the_o lord_n floor_n also_o the_o wheat_n lie_v hide_v under_o the_o chaff_n we_o must_v pray_v therefore_o that_o god_n will_v bring_v these_o the_o holiness_n of_o the_o lord_n sanctify_v all_o thing_n by_o his_o word_n testament_n this_o glory_n have_v the_o church_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n also_o in_o that_o she_o have_v for_o her_o head_n not_o the_o pope_n as_o the_o wicked_a papist_n do_v most_o wicked_o affirm_v but_o christ_n sit_v at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o father_n who_o be_v present_a with_o his_o word_n &_o sacrament_n this_o be_v a_o inestimable_a glory_n which_o depend_v not_o upon_o our_o righteousness_n but_o upon_o the_o great_a mercy_n of_o god_n accept_v approve_v and_o commend_v all_o thing_n that_o we_o do_v for_o christ_n his_o son_n sake_n our_o head_n but_o the_o city_n of_o jerusalem_n find_v satan_n her_o deadly_a and_o cruel_a enemy_n in_o this_o respect_n also_o jerusalem_n because_o it_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o workhouse_n of_o god_n in_o the_o which_o he_o daily_o exercise_v and_o wrought_v all_o manner_n of_o holy_a work_n blessing_n &_o benefit_n for_o his_o people_n yet_o be_v it_o of_o god_n notwithstanding_o marvellous_o preserve_v to_o this_o end_n that_o his_o people_n shall_v not_o be_v uncertain_a where_o he_o will_v be_v find_v worship_v and_o hear_v and_o here_o again_o we_o be_v admonish_v that_o all_o these_o thing_n come_v of_o gift_n and_o not_o of_o merit_n of_o mercy_n and_o not_o of_o work_n for_o he_o have_v choose_v unto_o himself_o this_o rest_n &_o it_o have_v please_v he_o to_o dwell_v in_o this_o place_n so_o it_o come_v not_o of_o our_o desert_n that_o we_o enjoy_v the_o gospel_n and_o other_o great_a blessing_n of_o god_n all_o these_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n through_o his_o great_a mercy_n and_o goodness_n bestow_v upon_o we_o for_o christ_n sake_n verse_n 15._o her_o victual_n i_o will_v bless_v and_o notwithstanding_o as_o a_o mean_a to_o attain_v the_o same_o &_o therewith_o be_v content_a as_o the_o beast_n be_v when_o he_o have_v obtain_v his_o prey_n for_o covetousness_n &_o incredulity_n be_v not_o content_a with_o present_a benefit_n although_o the_o lord_n do_v never_o so_o faithful_o promise_v to_o feed_v we_o and_o give_v we_o all_o thing_n necessary_a for_o this_o life_n thus_o the_o scripture_n proper_o &_o very_o apt_o call_v our_o food_n and_o sustenance_n a_o pray_v which_o come_v unto_o we_o take_v no_o care_n but_o labour_v &_o leave_v the_o care_n unto_o god_n as_o our_o saviour_n christ_n teach_v we_o matt._n 6._o who_o command_v we_o to_o labour_n and_o diligent_o endeavour_n to_o do_v that_o belong_v to_o our_o vocation_n for_o of_o the_o hebrew_n that_o be_v count_v labour_n which_o every_o day_n have_v and_o bring_v with_o it_o but_o withal_o he_o command_v we_o to_o take_v no_o thought_n for_o worldly_a thing_n but_o to_o leave_v all_o carefulness_n unto_o the_o lord_n who_o promise_v that_o we_o shall_v no_o more_o lack_n than_o the_o bird_n and_o other_o beast_n do_v which_o have_v that_o be_v sufficient_a and_o yet_o labour_v not_o nor_o make_v provision_n for_o the_o same_o for_o this_o be_v not_o the_o end_n of_o our_o labour_n that_o in_o this_o life_n we_o shall_v still_o seek_v to_o enrich_v ourselves_o and_o never_o be_v satisfy_v for_o although_o we_o have_v the_o treasure_n of_o this_o world_n yet_o with_o this_o life_n we_o must_v forsake_v they_o and_o like_v as_o this_o life_n be_v not_o certain_a but_o be_v as_o a_o pray_v which_o we_o so_o long_o enjoy_v as_o it_o please_v the_o lord_n even_o so_o be_v the_o portion_n of_o our_o sustenance_n but_o as_o you_o will_v say_v a_o snatch_n wherewith_o we_o must_v be_v content_a to_o live_v and_o not_o be_v careful_a for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v so_o do_v this_o word_n condemn_v all_o faithless_a carefulness_n and_o careful_a incredulity_n wherewith_o notwithstanding_o we_o can_v nothing_o prevail_v remember_v cyprian_n have_v a_o goodly_a say_n to_o this_o effect_n and_o worthy_a to_o be_v remember_v christian_n say_v he_o which_o have_v forsake_v this_o world_n do_v so_o little_a care_n for_o earthly_a thing_n that_o they_o ask_v no_o more_o but_o food_n and_o raiment_n for_o their_o heart_n be_v fix_v upon_o the_o eternal_a treasure_n of_o
