mountain_n thus_o the_o prophet_n cast_v his_o eye_n aside_o as_o it_o be_v upon_o the_o wicked_a who_o forsake_v the_o help_n of_o the_o lord_n mercy_n and_o goodness_n which_o be_v then_o in_o jerusalem_n seek_v relief_n and_o succour_n in_o other_o mountain_n in_o like_a manner_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o romish_a antichrist_n there_o be_v infinite_a feet_n and_o swarm_n of_o monk_n and_o other_o superstitious_a votary_n some_o hold_v of_o augustine_n some_o of_o benedict_n some_o of_o francisce_n etc_n etc_n which_o by_o their_o vow_n and_o monastical_a life_n think_v to_o obtain_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n hope_v also_o by_o these_o comfort_n to_o overcome_v the_o terror_n of_o god_n wrath_n &_o heal_v the_o wound_n of_o conscience_n and_o this_o be_v always_o the_o inclination_n of_o man_n nature_n to_o follow_v his_o own_o way_n and_o to_o forsake_v the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n therefore_o david_n say_v some_o forsake_v the_o temple_n &_o abhor_v the_o mount_n zion_n but_o i_o abide_v in_o the_o simple_a way_n of_o faith_n &_o true_a religion_n which_o be_v the_o healthful_a hill_n that_o the_o lord_n himself_o have_v appoint_v in_o that_o he_o call_v it_o the_o healthful_a hill_n or_o the_o hill_n from_o whence_o help_n and_o succour_n come_v he_o reject_v and_o condemn_v all_o other_o hill_n which_o have_v a_o show_n of_o help_n and_o succour_v such_o i_o mean_v as_o be_v visible_o wrought_v in_o the_o service_n and_o honour_n do_v to_o the_o idol_n but_o true_a help_n they_o give_v none_o so_o the_o jew_n say_v that_o baal_n show_v more_o present_a help_n in_o the_o temple_n then_o god_n so_o they_o cry_v in_o jeremy_n we_o will_v do_v sacrifice_n to_o the_o queen_n of_o heaven_n but_o thy_o commandment_n we_o will_v not_o do_v for_o since_o we_o leave_v to_o do_v sacrifice_n to_o the_o queen_n of_o heaven_n the_o sword_n and_o famine_n have_v consume_v we_o and_o thus_o forsake_v the_o temple_n and_o the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n they_o run_v headlong_o to_o all_o impiety_n but_o you_o will_v say_v why_o will_v god_n that_o idolatry_n shall_v have_v such_o success_n even_o to_o try_v our_o faith_n and_o idolatry_n have_v great_a success_n time_n yet_o be_v it_o but_o for_o a_o time_n so_o say_v king_n achas_n the_o god_n of_o the_o king_n of_o the_o syrian_n do_v help_v they_o therefore_o will_v i_o also_o seek_v their_o favour_n and_o they_o shall_v help_v i_o but_o what_o say_v the_o scripture_n the_o god_n of_o syria_n be_v the_o destruction_n both_o of_o they_o and_o of_o all_o israel_n and_o this_o be_v the_o end_n of_o all_o such_o false_a trust_n so_o do_v mammon_n likewise_o help_v his_o worshipper_n for_o he_o be_v a_o great_a god_n and_o bring_v to_o they_o liberty_n joy_n and_o brickle_a life_n but_o in_o death_n he_o do_v not_o only_o forsake_v they_o but_o drive_v they_o down_o to_o the_o deep_a pit_n of_o hell_n therefore_o whatsoever_o worldly_a and_o visible_a comfort_n and_o delight_n the_o heart_n of_o man_n can_v here_o desire_v or_o enjoy_v he_o find_v they_o uncertain_a and_o short_o must_v forsake_v they_o and_o yet_o withal_o they_o bring_v unspeakable_a torment_n and_o affliction_n of_o mind_n and_o lead_v man_n into_o such_o blindness_n that_o they_o have_v no_o regard_n of_o god_n at_o all_o who_o do_v not_o delight_v his_o true_a worshipper_n with_o vain_a pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n which_o endure_v but_o a_o moment_n but_o replenish_v they_o with_o everlasting_a joy_n for_o thus_o he_o say_v i_o will_v see_v you_o again_o and_o your_o which_o shall_v be_v reveil_v on_o we_o as_o s._n paul_n comfort_v us._n this_o be_v then_o the_o sense_n and_o meaning_n of_o this_o verse_n that_o faith_n be_v a_o knowledge_n of_o thing_n invisible_a and_o yet_o to_o be_v look_v for_o lest_o we_o shall_v think_v it_o to_o be_v but_o a_o mere_a speculation_n as_o some_o do_v make_v it_o there_o be_v thing_n to_o be_v look_v for_o of_o the_o which_o we_o have_v experience_n in_o this_o life_n that_o be_v to_o say_v a_o good_a conscience_n a_o joyful_a heart_n a_o invincible_a faith_n which_o be_v able_a to_o stand_v against_o all_o storm_n of_o tentation_n against_o poverty_n envy_n reproach_n and_o slander_v of_o the_o world_n against_o error_n and_o false_a doctrine_n and_o even_o against_o death_n itself_o thus_o we_o must_v learn_v to_o know_v the_o nature_n of_o faith_n namely_o that_o it_o be_v a_o will_n or_o knowledge_n or_o a_o expectation_n rest_v upon_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o word_n show_v and_o set_v forth_o unto_o we_o invisible_a help_n and_o yet_o to_o be_v look_v for_o as_o certain_a and_o unfallible_a and_o although_o we_o think_v it_o long_o before_o they_o come_v yet_o will_v they_o come_v when_o it_o shall_v be_v most_o to_o our_o joy_n &_o comfort_n and_o this_o be_v it_o that_o these_o word_n of_o the_o prophet_n do_v here_o express_v i_o lift_v up_o my_o eye_n to_o the_o hill_n from_o whence_o my_o help_n come_v here_o he_o show_v himself_o to_o be_v destitute_a of_o help_n and_o succour_n and_o yet_o in_o sure_a hope_n and_o expectation_n thereof_o he_o look_v up_o unto_o those_o hill_n and_o hope_v for_o invisible_a comfort_n in_o like_a manner_n must_v we_o do_v also_o i_o be_o in_o distress_n or_o affliction_n of_o body_n or_o mind_n i_o be_o in_o necessity_n and_o can_v see_v no_o mean_n how_o to_o live_v how_o to_o maintain_v my_o family_n how_o to_o escape_v this_o danger_n or_o that_o here_o be_v the_o heart_n oftentimes_o oppress_v with_o sorrow_n and_o miserable_o vex_v as_o though_o there_o be_v no_o succour_n no_o comfort_n nor_o remedy_n to_o be_v find_v but_o here_o must_v we_o be_v certain_o persuade_v that_o there_o be_v help_v and_o succour_v prepare_v for_o we_o and_o the_o time_n thereof_o also_o appoint_v of_o god_n although_o we_o know_v not_o when_o it_o shall_v be_v but_o by_o this_o we_o may_v learn_v what_o a_o hard_a matter_n it_o be_v to_o believe_v when_o the_o heart_n must_v yield_v and_o consent_n to_o any_o thing_n contrary_a to_o that_o which_o both_o we_o see_v hear_v &_o feel_v i_o myself_o have_v be_v oftentimes_o in_o wonderful_a great_a danger_n when_o the_o whole_a world_n as_o it_o be_v conspire_v against_o i_o for_o the_o pope_n my_o mortal_a enemy_n and_o the_o enemy_n of_o my_o christ_n do_v not_o cease_v to_o stir_v up_o against_o i_o what_o power_n and_o terror_n so_o ever_o he_o be_v able_a to_o devise_v here_o reason_n will_v rather_o persuade_v i_o to_o keep_v silence_n and_o say_v nothing_o invisible_a and_o hide_a from_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n therefore_o it_o think_v only_o of_o that_o which_o it_o see_v that_o be_v to_o say_v destruction_n in_o all_o these_o storm_n how_o my_o mind_n be_v establish_v in_o god_n what_o my_o faith_n and_o hope_n be_v i_o will_v here_o say_v nothing_o albeit_o in_o these_o great_a danger_n i_o grant_v my_o mind_n be_v oftentimes_o trouble_v and_o mighty_a
we_o in_o this_o psalm_n with_o thankfulness_n to_o acknowledge_v this_o singular_a benefit_n of_o the_o word_n and_o to_o beware_v of_o the_o horrible_a contempt_n thereof_o how_o much_o better_a be_v it_o to_o suffer_v pestilence_n famine_n and_o the_o sword_n how_o much_o more_o tolerable_a for_o david_n to_o become_v both_o a_o adulterer_n and_o a_o murderer_n so_o that_o there_o remain_v true_a service_n and_o worship_n of_o god_n what_o shall_v i_o say_v more_o david_n have_v not_o many_o fellow_n whether_o you_o consider_v his_o life_n and_o his_o faith_n or_o the_o witness_n pronounce_v of_o he_o by_o the_o lord_n himself_o and_o yet_o he_o notwithstanding_o so_o excellent_a and_o so_o holy_a a_o man_n be_v compel_v plain_o to_o confess_v his_o imperfection_n say_v if_o far_o inferior_a to_o david_n and_o yet_o david_n say_v that_o righteousness_n come_v not_o by_o work_n for_o say_v he_o if_o thou_o will_v mark_v what_o be_v do_v amiss_o no_o man_n shall_v be_v able_a to_o abide_v it_o or_o to_o stand_v in_o thy_o sight_n oh_o lord_n wherefore_o let_v no_o man_n trust_v that_o by_o his_o own_o merit_n or_o righteousness_n he_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o their_o own_o merit_n and_o yet_o will_v they_o force_v other_o so_o to_o do_v or_o most_o cruel_o condemn_v they_o for_o heretic_n thus_o we_o be_v teach_v by_o the_o experience_n of_o all_o such_o as_o be_v not_o utter_o void_a of_o understanding_n that_o no_o man_n live_v overcome_v by_o his_o own_o work_n or_o righteousness_n in_o god_n sight_n and_o yet_o the_o whole_a nature_n of_o man_n when_o it_o be_v not_o under_o tentation_n still_o look_v unto_o work_n and_o seek_v mean_n how_o it_o may_v by_o they_o please_v god_n but_o here_o be_v set_v forth_o unto_o we_o a_o simple_a and_o a_o plain_a doctrine_n if_o thou_o lord_n will_v mark_v what_o be_v do_v amiss_o none_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o abide_v it_o who_o will_v then_o desire_v to_o enter_v into_o judgement_n that_o he_o the_o truth_n both_o which_o sort_n i_o have_v here_o in_o few_o word_n to_o exhort_v &_o to_o desire_v first_o such_o as_o have_v mind_n to_o hear_v &_o read_v the_o doctrine_n of_o truth_n that_o they_o in_o life_n will_v follow_v that_o they_o hear_v and_o read_v of_o the_o other_o company_n this_o i_o have_v to_o crave_v that_o for_o as_o much_o as_o the_o gracious_a goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n have_v raise_v up_o before_o their_o face_n such_o plenty_n of_o preacher_n teacher_n writer_n and_o translator_n whereby_o by_o all_o mean_n to_o call_v they_o and_o to_o do_v they_o good_a they_o wise_o again_o for_o their_o part_n will_v consider_v what_o they_o have_v to_o do_v that_o be_v to_o take_v the_o time_n before_o they_o &_o not_o to_o refuse_v the_o riches_n of_o god_n great_a grace_n offer_v lest_o peradventure_o hereafter_o ignorance_n will_v not_o excuse_v they_o whereas_o now_o the_o light_n of_o truth_n so_o evident_o appear_v witting_o and_o willing_o they_o reject_v the_o burn_a offering_n and_o other_o sacrifice_n of_o the_o la_o do_v commend_v above_o all_o other_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o praise_n in_o like_a manner_n also_o ought_v we_o so_o much_o the_o more_o earnest_o &_o diligent_o to_o set_v forth_o this_o kind_n of_o worship_n because_o that_o after_o so_o great_a blindness_n wherein_o w_n have_v live_v the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n have_v as_o the_o sun_n in_o the_o mid_a day_n appear_v and_o shine_v unto_o we_o again_o therefore_o like_a as_o it_o have_v be_v count_v a_o manner_n of_o servitude_n in_o time_n past_a to_o hear_v a_o because_o of_o the_o continual_a vexation_n and_o assault_n of_o satan_n that_o as_o we_o be_v never_o without_o occasion_n of_o decline_a &_o fall_v from_o god_n so_o likewise_o we_o shall_v not_o cease_v to_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o the_o continual_a meditation_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o the_o edify_a both_o of_o ourselves_o and_o of_o the_o church_n for_o there_o be_v nothing_o so_o pernicious_a as_o the_o opinion_n of_o many_o at_o this_o day_n who_o as_o soon_o as_o they_o have_v get_v never_o so_o little_a knowledge_n of_o this_o heavenly_a wisdom_n think_v themselves_o by_o and_o by_o to_o be_v great_a doctor_n for_o see_v that_o these_o thing_n do_v not_o consist_v in_o fine_a and_o eloquent_a talk_n in_o reason_v and_o dispute_v but_o in_o practice_n and_o experience_n direct_v not_o by_o man_n reason_n but_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n they_o be_v miserable_o deceive_v that_o rest_n in_o bare_a and_o naked_a knowledge_n which_o be_v but_o unprofitable_a without_o experience_n and_o practice_v in_o the_o old_a testament_n god_n appoint_v but_o only_o the_o ten_o commandment_n wherein_o he_o will_v have_v his_o people_n to_o be_v exercise_v and_o occupy_v but_o who_o be_v there_o ever_o among_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n which_o can_v say_v that_o he_o be_v able_a to_o attain_v to_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n set_v forth_o in_o those_o commandment_n and_o shall_v we_o which_o in_o the_o new_a testament_n have_v the_o whole_a scripture_n set_v forth_o unto_o we_o glory_n in_o the_o fullness_n and_o perfection_n of_o our_o knowledge_n let_v we_o not_o think_v therefore_o so_o high_o of_o ourselves_o but_o let_v we_o humble_v ourselves_o before_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o confess_v this_o wisdom_n to_o be_v infinite_a and_o such_o as_o we_o can_v never_o full_o attain_v unto_o although_o we_o shall_v spend_v our_o whole_a life_n in_o the_o study_n of_o the_o scripture_n for_o although_o by_o the_o the_o spirit_n may_v be_v quench_v in_o we_o this_o loathe_n of_o god_n word_n which_o rise_v of_o a_o false_a opinion_n of_o knowledge_n be_v alas_o to_o common_a at_o this_o day_n word_n for_o a_o remedy_n therefore_o against_o this_o evil_a moses_n command_v that_o the_o la_o of_o god_n shall_v be_v diligent_o set_v forth_o to_o the_o posterity_n that_o be_v to_o say_v shall_v continual_o be_v we_o set_v forth_o his_o word_n in_o teach_v in_o read_v in_o writing_n in_o hear_v etc_n etc_n and_o this_o one_o thing_n ought_v to_o keep_v we_o in_o the_o continual_a exercise_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o to_o teach_v to_o exercise_v and_o to_o set_v forth_o the_o word_n what_o be_v it_o else_o but_o continual_o to_o offer_v sacrifice_n unto_o god_n continual_o to_o worship_v god_n continual_o to_o be_v exercise_v in_o the_o three_o first_o commandment_n lamentable_a it_o be_v to_o see_v what_o a_o multitude_n there_o be_v of_o such_o as_o continual_o blaspheme_v god_n either_o in_o teach_v false_a doctrine_n or_o in_o persecute_v the_o truth_n wherefore_o very_o necessary_a it_o be_v that_o we_o which_o in_o comparison_n of_o they_o be_v so_o small_a a_o number_n shall_v of_o tentation_n of_o this_o faith_n the_o papist_n can_v no_o better_o judge_v then_o a_o blind_a man_n can_v judge_v of_o colour_n the_o 122._o psalm_n i_o rejoice_v when_o they_o say_v unto_o i_o etc_n etc_n this_o psalm_n be_v a_o thank_n give_v for_o the_o excellent_a gift_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god._n psalm_n which_o virtue_n be_v therefore_o the_o more_o rare_a to_o be_v find_v for_o turn_v our_o eye_n from_o the_o lord_n but_o constant_o to_o persevere_v in_o sure_a hope_n &_o expectation_n of_o his_o gracious_a deliverance_n and_o of_o his_o help_a hand_n to_o be_v present_a with_o we_o in_o our_o necessity_n whereof_o our_o saviour_n christ_n also_o warn_v we_o in_o the_o gospel_n of_o the_o woman_n and_o the_o unrighteous_a judge_n who_o although_o he_o neither_o fear_v patience_n but_o also_o the_o confidence_n and_o trust_n which_o they_o have_v in_o the_o goodness_n of_o their_o master_n assure_o trust_v with_o patient_a tarry_n to_o find_v mercy_n and_o favour_n in_o their_o sight_n in_o time_n convenient_a but_o in_o deed_n david_n speak_v here_o of_o better_a servant_n than_o be_v common_o see_v at_o this_o day_n for_o there_o be_v no_o kind_n of_o people_n more_o deceitful_a negligent_a and_o stubborn_a even_o when_o there_o be_v great_a cause_n of_o sharp_a and_o severe_a correction_n wherefore_o let_v all_o such_o as_o will_v be_v count_v good_a servant_n remember_v the_o example_n and_o rule_n set_v forth_o here_o by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o observe_v of_o all_o good_a servant_n which_o be_v that_o they_o be_v not_o froward_a and_o stubborn_a but_o patient_o endure_v all_o thing_n and_o do_v the_o duty_n of_o true_a and_o faithful_a servant_n have_v always_o a_o watchful_a eye_n to_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o master_n faithful_a which_o man_n devise_v unto_o themselves_o be_v call_v god_n but_o he_o be_v the_o true_a god_n and_o none_o but_o he_o which_o have_v declare_v himself_o to_o we_o in_o his_o word_n and_o promise_v in_o the_o same_o that_o he_o will_v be_v our_o god_n etc_n etc_n the_o papist_n have_v devise_v unto_o themselves_o a_o service_n and_o worship_n of_o god_n contrary_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o they_o worship_v not_o the_o true_a god_n in_o deed_n but_o a_o idol_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n yea_o they_o worship_v a_o creaâ—â—â—_n make_v and_o fashion_v with_o man_n hand_n devilish_a mean_n think_v because_o god_n prolong_v his_o help_n to_o find_v thereby_o more_o speedy_a succour_n but_o thus_o our_o god_n be_v wont_a to_o deal_v with_o we_o first_o as_o be_v say_v to_o prove_v and_o exercise_v we_o and_o so_o to_o bring_v we_o to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o ourselves_o that_o we_o may_v see_v our_o own_o weakness_n and_o frailty_n which_o be_v so_o ready_a to_o like_o a_o reed_n which_o be_v easy_o pluck_v up_o and_o he_o like_o a_o rage_a flood_n which_o with_o great_a might_n and_o violence_n overthrow_v and_o carry_v away_o all_o thing_n we_o be_v like_o a_o wither_a leaf_n soon_o blow_v from_o the_o tree_n and_o he_o like_o a_o mighty_a wind_n or_o tempest_n not_o only_o blow_v down_o leave_v but_o pluck_v up_o and_o overthrow_v tree_n and_o all_o what_o be_v we_o then_o poor_a wretch_n able_a to_o do_v of_o our_o own_o power_n and_o strength_n for_o our_o defence_n we_o must_v learn_v therefore_o by_o faith_n whole_o to_o rest_v upon_o the_o word_n for_o what_o be_v our_o victory_n but_o even_o our_o faith_n albeit_o that_o armour_n and_o munition_n have_v their_o place_n yet_o can_v they_o nothing_o help_v at_o all_o unless_o we_o have_v terrible_a destruction_n they_o be_v deliver_v by_o the_o mighty_a hand_n of_o god_n as_o if_o their_o danger_n have_v be_v present_a before_o their_o eye_n &_o so_o to_o become_v more_o thankful_a to_o god_n for_o the_o same_o thankful_a for_o he_o be_v thankful_a to_o god_n in_o deed_n for_o his_o deliverance_n and_o safety_n which_o do_v acknowledge_v that_o before_o his_o deliverance_n he_o see_v nothing_o else_o but_o utter_a destruction_n thus_o david_n set_v out_o the_o affliction_n and_o calamity_n of_o the_o church_n and_o of_o the_o godly_a who_o the_o world_n do_v not_o only_a hate_n but_o cruel_o persecute_v whereby_o we_o may_v see_v that_o it_o have_v not_o only_o a_o greedy_a desire_n but_o also_o power_n to_o hurt_v murder_n and_o destroy_v satan_n likewise_o go_v their_o mouth_n shall_v sound_v and_o show_v forth_o nothing_o else_o but_o great_a gladness_n and_o those_o inestimable_a consolation_n of_o the_o gospel_n with_o voice_n of_o triumph_n and_o victory_n by_o christ_n overcome_v satan_n destroy_v death_n and_o take_v away_o our_o sin_n this_o be_v first_o speak_v unto_o the_o jew_n for_o this_o laughter_n be_v first_o offer_v to_o that_o people_n then_o have_v the_o promise_n now_o he_o turn_v to_o the_o gentile_n who_o he_o call_v to_o the_o partake_n of_o this_o laughter_n then_o shall_v they_o say_v among_o the_o gentile_n etc_n the_o child_n which_o we_o bring_v up_o and_o instruct_v at_o home_o the_o posterity_n will_v afterwards_o make_v governor_n of_o the_o common_a weal_n for_o of_o house_n be_v make_v city_n of_o which_o be_v most_o meet_a to_o persuade_v and_o be_v good_a thing_n in_o deed_n the_o world_n do_v the_o contrary_a for_o it_o be_v not_o only_o ignorant_a of_o the_o good_a thing_n which_o be_v in_o matrimony_n but_o also_o if_o it_o see_v any_o such_o it_o esteem_v they_o as_o nothing_o because_o of_o the_o trouble_n which_o present_o it_o feel_v no_o marvel_v be_v it_o therefore_o that_o when_o wicked_a man_n speak_v of_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n they_o speak_v after_o a_o other_o sort_n &_o with_o other_o word_n than_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v wont_a to_o speak_v for_o they_o follow_v the_o sense_n and_o judgement_n of_o the_o flesh_n only_o and_o see_v nothing_o else_o either_o in_o civil_a government_n or_o in_o matrimony_n and_o household_n affair_n but_o those_o thing_n which_o seem_v to_o be_v painful_a hard_a and_o full_a of_o trouble_n and_o not_o only_o so_o do_v but_o those_o thing_n also_o which_o in_o these_o kind_n of_o life_n be_v divine_a and_o heavenly_a in_o deed_n they_o do_v not_o perceive_v because_o of_o those_o small_a trouble_n and_o discommodity_n which_o touch_v the_o flesh_n and_o hereof_o come_v these_o say_n there_o be_v no_o city_n without_o a_o burdeâ—_n that_o be_v without_o a_o woman_n a_o wife_n be_v a_o necessary_a evil_n to_o bury_v a_o wife_n be_v better_a than_o to_o marry_v she_o if_o we_o can_v be_v without_o woman_n we_o shall_v be_v without_o great_a trouble_n and_o such_o other_o like_a say_n tend_v to_o the_o dispraise_n and_o reproach_n of_o woman_n the_o cause_n why_o man_n do_v thus_o perverse_o judge_v be_v this_o that_o the_o flesh_n be_v to_o poison_a with_o original_a sin_n that_o it_o can_v not_o be_v content_a to_o bear_v the_o punishment_n of_o sin_n it_o seek_v after_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v sweet_a and_o pleasant_a but_o trouble_n and_o travel_n it_o can_v not_o bear_v wherefore_o either_o it_o fly_v altogether_o from_o matrimony_n and_o all_o civil_a affair_n as_o the_o epicure_n and_o bellygod_n do_v or_o else_o abuse_v the_o same_o to_o his_o own_o lust_n and_o pleasure_n so_o blind_a be_v it_o through_o original_a sin_n with_o the_o desire_n of_o pleasure_n â–ª_o glory_a and_o riches_n necessary_a it_o be_v therefore_o to_o apply_v some_o medicine_n unto_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n and_o somewhat_o to_o repress_v and_o to_o bridle_v the_o wanton_a flesh_n with_o those_o trouble_n which_o be_v both_o in_o matrimony_n and_o in_o civil_a affair_n wherefore_o when_o we_o read_v these_o praise_n of_o matrimony_n in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n and_o compare_v they_o with_o the_o judgement_n of_o man_n we_o shall_v see_v the_o one_o to_o be_v clean_o contrary_a to_o the_o other_o we_o must_v say_v therefore_o that_o these_o thing_n be_v true_a according_a to_o the_o spirit_n but_o according_a to_o the_o flesh_n they_o be_v not_o true_a so_o where_o he_o say_v afterward_o of_o the_o godly_a marry_a man_n thou_o shall_v be_v bless_v &_o it_o shall_v be_v well_o with_o thou_o the_o flesh_n think_v the_o contrary_a and_o judge_v the_o marry_a person_n to_o be_v most_o miserable_a and_o most_o unhappy_a because_o he_o be_v constrain_v to_o get_v his_o live_n with_o great_a labour_n and_o travel_v for_o the_o world_n know_v not_o the_o thing_n that_o pertain_v to_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o the_o good_a thing_n and_o great_a blessing_n of_o god_n that_o be_v in_o matrimony_n it_o see_v not_o but_o rest_v only_o in_o the_o creature_n and_o see_v not_o god_n create_v govern_v and_o bless_v the_o creature_n contrariwise_o the_o holy_a ghost_n look_v to_o the_o creator_n &_o magnify_v the_o blessing_n of_o god_n although_o it_o be_v overwhelm_v with_o never_o so_o many_o affliction_n and_o tentation_n and_o for_o the_o trouble_n and_o discommodity_n that_o be_v incident_a to_o these_o kind_n of_o life_n either_o he_o cover_v they_o or_o else_o he_o make_v they_o less_o than_o they_o be_v and_o this_o the_o world_n can_v not_o do_v the_o wise_a man_n therefore_o as_o in_o history_n we_o may_v see_v do_v refuse_v to_o bear_v office_n in_o the_o common_a weal_n or_o to_o deal_v in_o public_a affair_n the_o same_o thing_n come_v to_o pass_v also_o in_o matrimony_n for_o young_a man_n will_v hardly_o suffer_v this_o yoke_n to_o be_v lay_v upon_o they_o as_o the_o old_a man_n say_v of_o they_o in_o the_o poet._n they_o say_v he_o which_o be_v in_o love_n he_o mean_v unchaste_a love_n and_o fleshly_a lust_n can_v not_o abide_v to_o hear_v of_o marriage_n they_o will_v not_o forsake_v their_o filthy_a pleasure_n to_o live_v chaste_o in_o holy_a matrimony_n and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o which_o through_o vehement_a love_n be_v bring_v under_o this_o yoke_n when_o they_o see_v no_o such_o success_n thereof_o as_o they_o look_v for_o but_o that_o some_o trouble_n or_o other_o do_v follow_v which_o they_o be_v blind_v with_o love_n can_v not_o foresee_v than_o they_o complain_v than_o they_o repent_v that_o ever_o they_o bring_v themselves_o into_o such_o bondage_n hereupon_o it_o follow_v that_o the_o husband_n will_v rather_o bear_v with_o all_o wickedness_n in_o a_o harlot_n &_o a_o strumpet_n then_o with_o any_o little_a fault_n in_o his_o own_o wife_n as_o also_o the_o wife_n except_o she_o be_v very_o godly_a will_v soon_o wink_v at_o the_o wickedness_n of_o a_o adulterer_n then_o at_o the_o small_a be_v godly_a mind_v must_v be_v teach_v exhort_v and_o stir_v up_o to_o behold_v some_o thing_n above_o &_o beyond_o these_o trouble_n reject_v the_o judgement_n of_o the_o wise_a man_n of_o this_o world_n and_o to_o look_v to_o the_o true_a and_o inestimable_a good_a thing_n which_o god_n have_v hide_v in_o these_o kind_n of_o life_n then_o shall_v they_o more_o easy_o bear_v their_o trouble_n and_o show_v their_o obedience_n unto_o god_n when_o he_o send_v diverse_a tentation_n and_o to_o this_o end_n we_o will_v interpret_v this_o psalm_n this_o marriage_n song_n that_o we_o may_v behold_v those_o spiritual_a good_a thing_n which_o god_n have_v hide_v in_o matrimony_n &_o esteem_v the_o same_o according_o to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o be_v not_o like_a to_o this_o world_n which_o see_v the_o work_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o do_v not_o understand_v they_o and_o hear_v the_o blessing_n and_o sweet_a promise_n of_o god_n and_o do_v not_o believe_v they_o verse_n 1._o bless_a be_v all_o they_o which_o fear_v the_o lord_n and_o walk_n in_o his_o way_n
first_o of_o all_o here_o be_v to_o be_v note_v that_o the_o prophet_n do_v not_o by_o and_o by_o enter_v iâ—ts_n the_o promise_n of_o god_n concern_v matrimony_n as_o though_o they_o be_v give_v only_o in_o respect_n of_o matrimony_n but_o he_o begin_v with_o the_o first_o table_n &_o call_v he_o bless_v that_o fear_v the_o lord_n and_o this_o he_o do_v to_o show_v that_o the_o world_n do_v not_o understand_v what_o it_o be_v to_o marry_v a_o wife_n and_o to_o live_v in_o the_o state_n of_o christian_a matrimony_n wherefore_o if_o any_o trouble_n come_v it_o can_v not_o bear_v they_o patient_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o bless_v but_o rather_o miserable_a and_o unhappy_a but_o he_o that_o fear_v the_o lord_n whether_o he_o be_v call_v to_o any_o government_n in_o the_o common_a weal_n or_o marry_v a_o wife_n be_v bless_v what_o success_n so_o ever_o follow_v thereof_o for_o it_o may_v be_v that_o even_o they_o also_o which_o fear_v the_o lord_n shall_v have_v no_o good_a success_n in_o matrimony_n but_o shall_v be_v couple_v either_o with_o wicked_a or_o with_o froward_a and_o disobedient_a wife_n or_o else_o they_o shall_v be_v otherwise_o shake_v with_o one_o tentation_n or_o other_o as_o with_o the_o untimely_a death_n of_o a_o good_a wife_n or_o with_o untractable_a and_o degenerate_a child_n or_o with_o barrenness_n &_o lack_n of_o fruit_n here_o if_o a_o man_n be_v godly_a and_o fear_v god_n he_o shall_v soon_o overcome_v these_o trouble_n &_o tentation_n for_o thus_o will_v he_o think_v with_o himself_o i_o have_v meet_v with_o such_o a_o wife_n as_o be_v unto_o i_o many_o way_n a_o great_a cross_n and_o vexation_n with_o who_o no_o man_n else_o can_v quiet_o live_v one_o day_n but_o this_o gift_n god_n have_v give_v i_o that_o i_o shall_v know_v and_o acknowledge_v he_o to_o be_v both_o my_o creator_n and_o father_n and_o to_o learn_v patient_o to_o endure_v &_o abide_v his_o good_a will_n and_o pleasure_n etc_n etc_n with_o this_o gift_n be_v overcome_v not_o only_o all_o the_o trouble_n and_o misery_n of_o matrimony_n but_o all_o calamity_n beside_o what_o so_o ever_o the_o prophet_n therefore_o begin_v this_o holy_a hymn_n or_o this_o marriage_n song_n after_o this_o manner_n if_o thou_o will_v be_v happy_a and_o bless_a &_o have_v a_o mind_n to_o live_v in_o the_o state_n of_o matrimony_n this_o shall_v thou_o find_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v give_v unto_o thou_o a_o wife_n house_n and_o child_n with_o other_o commodity_n but_o above_o all_o thing_n see_v that_o thou_o fear_v god_n and_o in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n begin_v this_o kind_n of_o life_n this_o be_v a_o profitable_a doctrine_n which_o here_o the_o holy_a ghost_n set_v forth_o even_o at_o the_o beginning_n to_o the_o end_n that_o he_o which_o can_v not_o live_v a_o single_a life_n shall_v begin_v his_o matrimony_n with_o the_o first_o commandment_n and_o call_v upon_o god_n for_o his_o help_n &_o succour_n shall_v come_v forth_o into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o say_v lord_n thou_o say_v unto_o i_o in_o thy_o word_n that_o thou_o be_v and_o will_v be_v my_o lord_n and_o my_o god_n thou_o have_v make_v i_o a_o man_n or_o thing_n come_v lucky_o to_o pass_v then_o shall_v they_o have_v good_a success_n the_o holy_a ghost_n begin_v his_o holy_a hymn_n after_o a_o other_o manner_n than_o other_o poet_n do_v for_o he_o exhort_v we_o that_o we_o shall_v first_o of_o all_o call_n upon_o god_n and_o conceive_v in_o our_o heart_n a_o sure_a trust_n of_o his_o mercy_n for_o god_n will_v not_o turn_v his_o ear_n from_o thou_o if_o thou_o call_v he_o thy_o creator_n but_o will_v again_o acknowledge_v thou_o to_o be_v his_o creature_n and_o will_v not_o deny_v this_o to_o be_v his_o work_n that_o thou_o be_v a_o man_n drown_v in_o wealth_n and_o pleasure_n that_o they_o live_v all_o together_o without_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o this_o be_v a_o far_o great_a misery_n but_o worthy_o do_v these_o misery_n and_o calamity_n fall_v upon_o they_o for_o why_o do_v they_o not_o join_v withal_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n here_o thou_o must_v learn_v therefore_o to_o live_v in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n who_o have_v create_v thou_o that_o thou_o shall_v be_v a_o husband_n or_o that_o thou_o shall_v be_v a_o wife_n and_o he_o will_v also_o govern_v bless_v and_o prosper_v thy_o marriage_n but_o if_o thou_o will_v that_o they_o may_v know_v it_o and_o follow_v it_o the_o cause_n be_v this_o for_o that_o matrimony_n remain_v in_o the_o world_n and_o in_o the_o flesh_n that_o be_v to_o say_v even_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o devil_n the_o husband_n as_o touch_v the_o flesh_n soon_o loathe_v or_o hate_v the_o wife_n or_o the_o wife_n her_o husband_n what_o be_v the_o cause_n hereof_o even_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n for_o that_o matrimony_n consist_v in_o the_o flesh_n which_o be_v whole_o corrupt_a &_o poison_a with_o sin_n this_o the_o flesh_n i_o mean_v satan_n inflame_v with_o hatred_n and_o every_o light_a offence_n or_o else_o with_o jealousy_n wherefore_o if_o thou_o look_v not_o unto_o the_o will_n of_o god_n thy_o matrimony_n can_v never_o be_v unto_o thou_o either_o stable_n or_o intend_v to_o marry_v to_o know_v and_o understand_v what_o they_o have_v when_o they_o have_v wife_n so_o that_o both_o the_o single_a life_n and_o also_o matrimony_n may_v have_v their_o liberty_n the_o meaning_n therefore_o of_o the_o prophet_n here_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o commend_v and_o set_v forth_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o not_o to_o compel_v any_o man_n to_o marry_v for_o one_o and_o the_o same_o spirit_n have_v distribute_v his_o gift_n to_o some_o after_o one_o manner_n and_o to_o some_o after_o a_o other_o we_o be_v all_o in_o one_o body_n and_o we_o be_v all_o bewtify_v with_o one_o and_o the_o same_o spirit_n 9_o but_o not_o after_o one_o manner_n let_v they_o therefore_o to_o who_o it_o be_v give_v to_o matrimony_n receive_v this_o abide_v still_o in_o poor_a and_o miserable_a conscience_n in_o the_o agony_n of_o death_n lie_v hold_v upon_o certain_a sentence_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o do_v in_o deed_n pertain_v unto_o the_o law_n and_o thereby_o lose_v the_o sweet_a comfort_n and_o consolation_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o for_o example_n if_o thou_o will_v enter_v into_o life_n keep_v the_o commandment_n again_o not_o every_o one_o that_o say_v lord_n lord_n shall_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n with_o such_o sentence_n poor_a and_o silly_a conscience_n be_v so_o bruise_v and_o break_v that_o they_o can_v see_v nothing_o but_o
