one_o place_n utter_o deny_v any_o lawful_a 10._o antecedent_n cause_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n beside_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n yet_o crellius_n in_o his_o vindication_n say_v by_o lawful_a cause_n he_o mean_v meritorious_a or_o such_o upon_o supposition_n 16._o of_o which_o he_o ought_v to_o die_v for_o elsewhere_o he_o make_v christ_n to_o die_v for_o the_o cause_n 7._o or_o by_o the_o occasion_n of_o our_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o same_o that_o crellius_n mean_v by_o a_o impulsive_a or_o procatartick_fw-ge cause_n which_o he_o thus_o explain_v we_o be_v now_o to_o suppose_v a_o decree_n of_o god_n 11._o not_o only_o to_o give_v salvation_n to_o mankind_n but_o to_o give_v we_o a_o firm_a hope_n of_o it_o in_o this_o present_a state_n now_o our_o sin_n by_o deserve_v eternal_a punishment_n do_v hinder_v the_o effect_n of_o that_o decree_n upon_o we_o and_o therefore_o they_o be_v a_o impulsive_a cause_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n by_o which_o it_o be_v effect_v that_o this_o decree_n shall_v obtain_v notwithstanding_o our_o sin_n but_o we_o be_v not_o to_o understand_v as_o though_o this_o be_v do_v by_o any_o expiation_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n by_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n but_o this_o effect_n be_v hinder_v by_o three_o thing_n by_o take_v away_o their_o sin_n by_o assure_v man_n that_o their_o former_a sin_n and_o present_a infirmity_n upon_o their_o sincere_a obedience_n shall_v not_o be_v impute_v to_o they_o and_o that_o the_o effect_n of_o that_o decree_n shall_v obtain_v all_o which_o say_v he_o be_v effect_v morte_fw-la christi_fw-la interveniente_fw-la the_o death_n of_o christ_n intervent_v but_o not_o as_o the_o procure_a cause_n so_o that_o after_o all_o these_o word_n he_o mean_v no_o more_o by_o make_v our_o sin_n a_o impulsive_a cause_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n but_o that_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n be_v a_o argument_n to_o confirm_v to_o we_o the_o truth_n of_o his_o doctrine_n which_o doctrine_n of_o he_o do_v give_v we_o assurance_n of_o these_o thing_n and_o that_o our_o sin_n when_o they_o be_v say_v to_o be_v the_o impulsive_a cause_n be_v not_o to_o be_v consider_v with_o a_o respect_n to_o their_o guilt_n but_o to_o that_o distrust_n of_o god_n which_o our_o sin_n do_v raise_v in_o we_o which_o distrust_n be_v in_o truth_n according_a to_o this_o sense_n of_o crellius_n the_o impulsive_a cause_n and_o not_o the_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n or_o occasion_n of_o it_o for_o that_o be_v it_o which_o the_o doctrine_n be_v design_v to_o remove_v and_o our_o sin_n only_o as_o the_o cause_n of_o that_o but_o if_o it_o be_v say_v that_o he_o speak_v not_o only_o of_o the_o distrust_n but_o of_o the_o punishment_n of_o sin_n as_o a_o impediment_n which_o must_v be_v remove_v too_o and_o therefore_o may_v be_v call_v a_o impulsive_a cause_n we_o be_v to_o consider_v that_o the_o removal_n of_o this_o be_v not_o attribute_v to_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n but_o to_o the_o leave_v of_o our_o sin_n by_o the_o belief_n of_o his_o doctrine_n therefore_o the_o punishment_n of_o our_o sin_n can_v unless_o in_o a_o very_a remote_a sense_n be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o impulsive_a cause_n of_o that_o which_o for_o all_o that_o we_o can_v observe_v by_o crellius_n may_v as_o well_o have_v be_v do_v without_o it_o if_o any_o other_o way_n can_v be_v think_v sufficient_a to_o confirm_v his_o doctrine_n and_o christ_n without_o die_v may_v have_v have_v power_n to_o save_v all_o they_o that_o obey_v he_o but_o we_o understand_v not_o a_o impulsive_a cause_n in_o so_o remote_a a_o sense_n as_o though_o our_o sin_n be_v a_o mere_a occasion_n of_o christ_n die_v because_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n be_v one_o argument_n among_o many_o other_o to_o believe_v his_o doctrine_n the_o belief_n of_o which_o will_v make_v man_n leave_v their_o sin_n but_o we_o contend_v for_o a_o near_o and_o more_o proper_a sense_n viz._n that_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n be_v primary_o intend_v for_o the_o expiation_n of_o our_o sin_n with_o a_o respect_n to_o god_n and_o not_o to_o we_o and_o therefore_o our_o sin_n as_o a_o impulsive_a cause_n be_v to_o be_v consider_v as_o they_o be_v so_o displease_v to_o god_n that_o it_o be_v necessary_a for_o the_o vindication_n of_o god_n honour_n and_o the_o deter_v the_o world_n from_o sin_n that_o no_o less_o a_o sacrifice_n of_o atonement_n shall_v be_v offer_v than_o the_o blood_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n so_o that_o we_o understand_v a_o impulsive_a cause_n here_o in_o the_o same_o sense_n that_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o people_n be_v under_o the_o law_n the_o cause_n of_o the_o offer_v up_o those_o sacrifice_n which_o be_v appoint_v for_o the_o expiation_n of_o they_o and_o as_o in_o those_o sacrifice_n there_o be_v two_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v viz._n the_o mactation_n and_o the_o oblation_n of_o they_o the_o former_a as_o a_o punishment_n by_o a_o substitution_n of_o they_o in_o place_n of_o the_o person_n who_o have_v offend_v the_o latter_a as_o the_o proper_a sacrifice_n of_o atonement_n although_o the_o mactation_n itself_o consider_v with_o the_o design_n of_o it_o be_v a_o sacrificial_a act_n too_o so_o we_o consider_v the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n with_o a_o twofold_a respect_n either_o as_o to_o our_o sin_n as_o the_o impulsive_a cause_n of_o they_o so_o they_o be_v to_o be_v consider_v as_o a_o punishment_n or_o as_o to_o god_n
