taste_v bitter_a now_o say_v he_o you_o must_v put_v some_o sugar_n into_o my_o drink_n and_o his_o wife_n put_v in_o some_o and_o yet_o the_o drink_n taste_v bitter_a why_o because_o the_o bitterness_n come_v from_o a_o bitter_a choleric_a humour_n within_o but_o let_v the_o physician_n come_v and_o give_v he_o a_o bitter_a potion_n to_o purge_v out_o the_o bitterness_n that_o be_v be_v never_o any_o such_o content_a man_n or_o woman_n at_o this_o self-denying_a man_n or_o woman_n there_o be_v never_o any_o deny_v himself_o so_o much_o as_o jesus_n christ_n do_v he_o give_v lord_n shall_v lay_v upon_o we_o yet_o righteous_a be_v the_o lord_n for_o he_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o most_o wretched_a creature_n a_o discontent_a heart_n he_o be_v trouble_v because_o he_o have_v no_o more_o comfort_n but_o one_o that_o be_v a_o self-denying_a man_n he_o rather_o wonder_n that_o he_o have_v so_o much_o as_o he_o have_v oh_o say_v one_o i_o have_v but_o a_o little_a i_o but_o say_v he_o that_o have_v learn_v this_o lesson_n of_o self-denial_n i_o rather_o wonder_v that_o god_n bestow_v upon_o i_o the_o liberty_n of_o breathe_v in_o the_o air_n know_v how_o vile_a i_o be_o and_o know_v how_o much_o sin_n the_o lord_n do_v see_v in_o i_o and_o that_o be_v the_o way_n of_o contentment_n by_o learn_v self-denial_n eight_o there_o be_v a_o further_a thing_n in_o self-denial_n which_o bring_v contentment_n because_o thereby_o the_o soul_n come_v to_o rejoice_v and_o take_v satisfaction_n in_o all_o god_n way_n i_o beseech_v you_o observe_v this_o if_o a_o man_n be_v selvish_a and_o have_v self-love_n prevail_v in_o his_o heart_n those_o thing_n that_o suit_n with_o his_o own_o end_n he_o will_v be_v glad_a of_o they_o but_o a_o godly_a man_n that_o only_o have_v contentment_n when_o god_n way_n suit_n with_o your_o own_o end_n you_o can_v have_v it_o but_o now_o and_o then_o but_o a_o self-denying_a man_n deny_v his_o own_o end_n and_o only_a look_n at_o the_o end_n of_o god_n and_o therein_o be_v content_v when_o a_o man_n be_v selvish_a he_o can_v but_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o trouble_n and_o vexation_n for_o if_o i_o regard_v one_o with_o another_o one_o man_n be_v for_o self_n in_o one_o thing_n and_o another_o man_n be_v for_o self_n in_o another_o thing_n and_o so_o they_o make_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o stir_n but_o those_o who_o heart_n be_v enlarge_v and_o make_v public_a thing_n their_o end_n and_o can_v deny_v themselves_o they_o can_v walk_v at_o breadth_n and_o never_o jussel_n one_o with_o another_o so_o it_o be_v not_o because_o you_o have_v not_o enough_o of_o they_o that_o be_v not_o the_o reason_n but_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o they_o be_v not_o thing_n proportionable_a to_o that_o immortal_a soul_n of_o you_o that_o be_v capable_a of_o god_n himself_o many_o man_n think_v when_o they_o be_v trouble_v and_o have_v not_o contentment_n that_o it_o be_v because_o they_o have_v but_o a_o little_a in_o the_o world_n and_o if_o they_o have_v more_o than_o they_o shall_v be_v content_a that_o be_v just_a thus_o suppose_v a_o man_n be_v a_o hungry_a and_o so_o satisfy_v his_o crave_v stomach_n he_o shall_v gape_v and_o hold_v open_a his_o mouth_n to_o take_v in_o the_o wind_n and_o then_o shall_v think_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o be_v not_o satisfy_v be_v because_o he_o have_v not_o enough_o of_o the_o wind_n no_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o the_o thing_n be_v not_o suitable_a to_o a_o crave_v stomach_n true_o there_o be_v the_o same_o madness_n in_o the_o world_n the_o wind_n that_o a_o man_n take_v in_o by_o gape_a will_n as_o soon_o satisfy_v a_o crave_v stomach_n which_o be_v ready_a to_o famish_v as_o all_o the_o comfort_n in_o the_o world_n can_v satisfy_v a_o soul_n that_o know_v what_o true_a happiness_n mean_v you_o
but_o god_n expect_v that_o every_o day_n you_o shall_v turn_v over_o a_o leaf_n in_o your_o own_o heart_n you_o will_v never_o come_v to_o get_v any_o skill_n in_o this_o mystery_n except_o you_o study_v the_o book_n of_o your_o own_o heart_n mariner_n they_o have_v their_o book_n that_o they_o study_v those_o that_o will_v be_v good_a navigater_n and_o scholar_n they_o have_v their_o book_n those_o that_o study_v logic_n they_o have_v their_o book_n according_a to_o that_o and_o those_o that_o will_v study_v rhetoric_n and_o philosophy_n have_v their_o book_n according_a to_o that_o and_o those_o that_o study_v divinity_n they_o have_v their_o book_n whereby_o they_o come_v to_o be_v help_v in_o the_o study_n of_o divinity_n but_o a_o christian_n next_o to_o the_o book_n of_o god_n be_v to_o look_v into_o the_o book_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n and_o to_o read_v over_o that_o and_o this_o will_v help_v you_o to_o contentment_n these_o three_o way_n 1._o by_o the_o study_v of_o thy_o heart_n thou_o will_v come_v present_o to_o discover_v wherein_o thy_o discontent_n lie_v when_o thou_o be_v discontent_v thou_o will_v find_v out_o the_o root_n of_o any_o discontentment_n if_o thou_o do_v study_v thy_o heart_n well_o many_o man_n and_o woman_n they_o be_v discontent_v and_o the_o truth_n be_v they_o know_v not_o wherefore_o they_o think_v this_o &_o the_o other_o thing_n be_v the_o cause_n but_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o know_v their_o own_o heart_n they_o will_v find_v out_o present_o where_o the_o root_n of_o their_o discontent_n lie_v that_o it_o lie_v in_o such_o a_o corruption_n and_o distemper_n of_o my_o heart_n that_o now_o through_o god_n mercy_n i_o have_v find_v out_o it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o little_a child_n that_o be_v very_o froward_a in_o the_o house_n if_o a_o stranger_n come_v in_o he_o do_v not_o know_v what_o the_o matter_n be_v perhaps_o the_o stranger_n will_v give_v the_o child_n a_o rattle_n or_o a_o nut_n or_o such_o a_o thing_n to_o quiet_v it_o but_o when_o the_o nurse_n come_v she_o know_v the_o temper_n and_o disposition_n of_o the_o child_n and_o therefore_o know_v best_o how_o to_o quiet_v it_o so_o it_o be_v here_o just_a thus_o for_o all_o the_o world_n when_o we_o be_v stranger_n with_o our_o own_o heart_n we_o be_v mighty_o discontent_v and_o know_v not_o how_o to_o quiet_v ourselves_o because_o we_o know_v not_o wherein_o the_o disquiet_n lie_v and_o indeed_o when_o we_o be_v stranger_n to_o our_o own_o heart_n we_o can_v tell_v how_o to_o quiet_v ourselves_o but_o if_o we_o be_v very_o well_o verse_v in_o our_o own_o heart_n when_o any_o thing_n fall_v out_o so_o as_o to_o disquiet_v we_o we_o find_v out_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o present_o and_o so_o quick_o come_v to_o be_v quiet_a so_o a_o man_n that_o have_v a_o watch_n and_o he_o understand_v the_o use_n of_o every_o wheel_n and_o pin_n if_o it_o go_v amiss_o he_o will_v present_o find_v out_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o but_o one_o that_o have_v no_o skill_n in_o a_o watch_n when_o it_o go_v amiss_o he_o know_v not_o what_o the_o matter_n be_v and_o therefore_o can_v mend_v it_o so_o indeed_o our_o heart_n be_v as_o a_o watch_n and_o there_o be_v many_o wheel_n and_o wind_n and_o turn_n there_o and_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o know_v our_o heart_n well_o that_o when_o they_o be_v out_o of_o tune_n we_o may_v know_v what_o the_o matter_n be_v 2_o this_o knowledge_n of_o our_o heart_n will_v help_v we_o to_o contentment_n because_o by_o this_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o know_v what_o be_v most_o suitable_a to_o our_o condition_n as_o thus_o a_o man_n that_o know_v not_o his_o own_o heart_n he_o think_v not_o what_o need_n he_o have_v of_o affliction_n and_o upon_o that_o he_o be_v disquiet_v but_o that_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o have_v study_v their_o own_o heart_n when_o god_n come_v with_o affliction_n upon_o they_o they_o can_v say_v i_o will_v not_o for_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n have_v be_v without_o this_o affliction_n god_n have_v so_o suit_v this_o affliction_n to_o my_o condition_n and_o have_v come_v in_o such_o a_o way_n that_o if_o this_o affliction_n have_v not_o come_v i_o be_o afraid_a i_o shall_v have_v fall_v into_o sin_n a_o poor_a country_n man_n that_o take_v physic_n the_o physic_n work_v and_o he_o think_v it_o will_v kill_v he_o because_o he_o know_v not_o the_o ill_a humour_n that_o be_v in_o his_o body_n and_o therefore_o he_o understand_v not_o how_o suitable_a the_o physic_n be_v to_o he_o but_o a_o physician_n take_v a_o purge_n and_o it_o make_v he_o extreme_o sick_a say_v the_o physician_n i_o like_v this_o the_o better_a it_o do_v but_o work_n upon_o the_o humour_n that_o i_o know_v be_v the_o matter_n of_o my_o disease_n and_o upon_o that_o such_o a_o man_n that_o have_v knowledge_n and_o understanding_n in_o his_o body_n and_o the_o cause_n of_o his_o distemper_n he_o be_v not_o trouble_v or_o disquiet_v so_o will_v we_o be_v if_o we_o do_v but_o know_v the_o distemper_n of_o our_o own_o heart_n carnal_a man_n and_o woman_n they_o know_v not_o their_o own_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o they_o fling_v and_o vex_v upon_o every_o affliction_n that_o do_v befall_v they_o they_o know_v not_o what_o distemper_n be_v in_o their_o heart_n that_o may_v be_v heal_v by_o their_o affliction_n if_o it_o please_v god_n to_o give_v they_o a_o sanctify_a use_n of_o they_o 3_o by_o know_v their_o own_o heart_n they_o know_v what_o they_o be_v able_a to_o manage_v and_o by_o this_o mean_v they_o come_v to_o be_v content_a the_o lord_n perhaps_o take_v away_o many_o comfort_n from_o they_o that_o they_o have_v before_o or_o deny_v they_o some_o thing_n that_o they_o hope_v to_o have_v get_v now_o they_o by_o know_v their_o heart_n know_v this_o that_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o manage_v such_o a_o estate_n and_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o manage_v such_o prosperity_n god_n see_v it_o and_o say_v a_o poor_a soul_n i_o be_o in_o some_o measure_n convince_v by_o look_v into_o my_o own_o heart_n that_o i_o be_v not_o able_a to_o mamnage_v such_o a_o condition_n a_o man_n desire_v greedy_o to_o gripe_v more_o perhaps_o than_o he_o be_v able_a to_o mamnage_v and_o so_o undo_v himself_o as_o country_n man_n do_v observe_v that_o if_o they_o do_v over-stock_n their_o land_n it_o will_v quick_o spoil_v they_o and_o so_o a_o wise_a husbandman_n that_o know_v how_o much_o his_o ground_n will_v bear_v he_o be_v not_o trouble_v that_o he_o have_v not_o so_o much_o stock_n as_o other_o why_o because_o he_o know_v he_o have_v not_o ground_n enough_o for_o so_o great_a a_o stock_n and_o that_o quiet_v he_o so_o many_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o know_v not_o their_o own_o heart_n they_o will_v fain_o have_v a_o prosperous_a estate_n as_o other_o have_v but_o if_o they_o know_v their_o own_o heart_n they_o will_v know_v that_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o manage_v it_o if_o one_o of_o your_o little_a child_n of_o three_o or_o four_o year_n old_a shall_v be_v cry_v for_o the_o coat_n of_o she_o that_o be_v twelve_o or_o twenty_o year_n old_a and_o say_v why_o may_v not_o i_o have_v a_o coat_n as_o long_o as_o my_o sister_n if_o she_o have_v it_o will_v soon_o trip_v up_o her_o heel_n and_o break_v her_o face_n but_o when_o the_o child_n come_v to_o understanding_n she_o be_v not_o discontent_v because_o her_o coat_n be_v not_o so_o long_o as_o her_o sister_n but_o say_v my_o coat_n be_v fit_a for_o i_o and_o therein_o take_v content_a so_o if_o we_o come_v to_o understanding_n in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n we_o will_v not_o cry_v why_o have_v not_o i_o such_o a_o estate_n as_o other_o have_v the_o lord_n see_v that_o i_o be_o not_o able_a to_o manage_v it_o and_o i_o see_v it_o myself_o by_o the_o know_n of_o my_o own_o heart_n you_o shall_v have_v child_n if_o they_o see_v but_o a_o knife_n they_o will_v cry_v for_o it_o because_o they_o know_v not_o their_o strength_n and_o that_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o manage_v it_o but_o you_o know_v they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o manage_v it_o and_o therefore_o you_o will_v not_o give_v it_o they_o and_o when_o they_o come_v to_o so_o much_o understanding_n as_o to_o know_v that_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o manage_v it_o they_o will_v not_o cry_v for_o it_o so_o we_o will_v not_o cry_v for_o such_o and_o such_o thing_n if_o we_o know_v that_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o manage_v they_o when_o you_o vex_v and_o fret_v for_o what_o you_o have_v not_o i_o may_v say_v to_o you_o as_o christ_n say_v you_o know_v not_o of_o what_o spirit_n you_o be_v
evil_a of_o sin_n and_o the_o excellency_n of_o jesus_n christ_n there_o may_v be_v a_o seed_n of_o faith_n put_v into_o the_o soul_n but_o the_o soul_n must_v first_o know_v christ_n and_o know_v if_o i_o see_v what_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n be_v that_o sight_n will_v swallow_v up_o all_o other_o evil_n and_o if_o i_o be_v burden_v with_o the_o evil_n of_o sin_n it_o will_v swallow_v up_o all_o other_o burden_n what_o be_o i_o now_o murmur_v against_o god_n hand_n say_v such_o a_o soul_n when_o as_o a_o while_n ago_o the_o lord_n make_v i_o see_v myself_o to_o be_v a_o damn_a wretch_n and_o apprehend_v it_o as_o a_o wonder_n that_o i_o be_o not_o in_o hell_n 2._o yea_o it_o be_v mighty_a contrary_n to_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o infinite_a excellency_n and_o glory_n of_o jesus_n pitth_v in_o rephadim_n and_o there_o be_v no_o water_n for_o the_o people_n to_o drink_v then_o in_o the_o second_o verse_n wherefore_o the_o people_n do_v chide_v with_o moses_n and_o say_v give_v that_o the_o first_o agravation_n be_v this_o to_o murmur_v when_o we_o enjoy_v abundance_n of_o mercy_n the_o great_a and_o the_o more_o abundant_a the_o mercy_n be_v that_o we_o enjoy_v the_o great_a and_o the_o vile_a be_v the_o sin_n of_o murmur_a as_o here_o now_o when_o god_n have_v new_o deliver_v they_o out_o of_o the_o house_n of_o bondage_n for_o they_o now_o to_o murmur_v because_o they_o want_v some_o few_o particular_n that_o they_o desire_v oh_o to_o sin_n against_o god_n after_o a_o great_a mercy_n this_o be_v a_o great_a agravation_n and_o a_o most_o abominable_a grant_v to_o we_o this_o summer_n heap_a mercy_n upon_o we_o one_o mercy_n upon_o another_o what_o a_o condition_n be_v we_o in_o at_o the_o begin_n of_o this_o summer_n and_o what_o a_o different_a according_a to_o his_o excellent_a greatness_n to_o his_o excellent_a goodness_n and_o grace_n and_o now_o have_v god_n give_v to_o you_o the_o contentment_n of_o your_o heart_n take_v you_o heed_n of_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o any_o grief_n to_o your_o brethren_n think_v not_o that_o because_o god_n have_v be_v gracious_a unto_o you_o that_o therefore_o he_o have_v give_v you_o liberty_n for_o able_a to_o count_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n yet_o after_o to_o be_v discontent_a because_o we_o have_v not_o all_o we_o will_v have_v this_o be_v a_o great_a evil_n i_o only_o mention_v this_o the_o last_o day_n that_o i_o may_v show_v to_o you_o what_o a_o great_a sin_n it_o be_v at_o such_o a_o time_n as_o this_o the_o lord_n this_o summer_n have_v multiply_v mercy_n one_o upon_o another_o the_o lord_n have_v make_v this_o summer_n to_o be_v a_o continue_a miracle_n of_o mercy_n never_o do_v a_o kingdom_n enjoy_v in_o so_o little_a space_n of_o time_n such_o mercy_n one_o upon_o another_o now_o the_o public_a mercy_n of_o god_n shall_v quiet_v our_o heart_n and_o keep_v we_o from_o discontent_n and_o the_o sin_n of_o discontent_n for_o private_a affliction_n be_v exceed_o aggravate_v by_o the_o consideration_n of_o public_a mercy_n to_o the_o land_n when_o the_o lord_n have_v be_v so_o merciful_a to_o the_o land_n will_v thou_o be_v feet_v and_o murmur_v because_o thou_o have_v not_o in_o thy_o family_n all_o the_o comfort_n that_o thou_o will_v have_v as_o it_o be_v a_o great_a aggravation_n of_o a_o man_n evil_a for_o he_o to_o rejoice_v
immoderate_o in_o his_o own_o private_a comfort_n when_o the_o church_n be_v in_o affliction_n when_o the_o public_a suffer_v grievous_a and_o hard_a trouble_n if_o any_o man_n shall_v then_o rejoice_v and_o give_v liberty_n to_o himself_o at_o that_o time_n to_o satisfy_v his_o flesh_n to_o the_o uttermost_a in_o all_o outward_a comfort_n this_o be_v a_o great_a aggravation_n of_o his_o sin_n so_o on_o the_o contrary_a for_o any_o man_n to_o be_v immoderate_o trouble_v for_o any_o private_a affliction_n when_o it_o go_v well_o with_o the_o public_a with_o the_o church_n this_o be_v a_o great_a aggravation_n of_o his_o sin_n it_o may_v be_v when_o the_o church_n of_o god_n be_v low_a and_o it_o go_v worst_a in_o other_o part_n yet_o thou_o do_v abate_v nothing_o of_o the_o comfort_n of_o thy_o flesh_n but_o give_v full_a liberty_n to_o satisfy_v thy_o flesh_n as_o former_o know_v this_o be_v thy_o great_a sin_n so_o on_o the_o other_o side_n when_o we_o have_v receive_v such_o mercy_n in_o public_a we_o shall_v have_v all_o our_o private_a affliction_n swallow_v up_o in_o the_o public_a mercy's_n and_o we_o shall_v think_v with_o ourselves_o though_o we_o be_v afflict_v for_o our_o particular_a yet_o bless_a be_v god_n it_o go_v well_o with_o the_o church_n and_o with_o the_o public_a the_o consideration_n of_o that_o shall_v mighty_o quiet_v our_o heart_n in_o all_o our_o private_a discontent_n and_o if_o it_o do_v not_o so_o know_v that_o our_o sin_n be_v much_o increase_v by_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n that_o be_v abroad_o now_o shall_v god_n mercy_n aggravate_v our_o sin_n this_o be_v a_o sad_a thing_n this_o be_v to_o turn_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n to_o be_v our_o misery_n do_v not_o thou_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o these_o mercy_n that_o god_n have_v send_v of_o late_a to_o the_o public_a these_o great_a victory_n that_o god_n have_v give_v do_v not_o thou_o pray_v for_o they_o now_o thou_o have_v they_o be_v not_o there_o enough_o in_o they_o to_o quiet_v thy_o heart_n for_o some_o private_a trouble_n thou_o meet_v withal_o in_o thy_o family_n be_v not_o there_o goodness_n enough_o there_o to_o cure_v thy_o discontentment_n certain_o they_o be_v not_o such_o mercy_n worthy_a to_o be_v pray_v for_o except_o they_o have_v so_o much_o excellency_n in_o they_o as_o to_o countervail_v some_o private_a affliction_n public_a mercy_n be_v the_o aggravation_n of_o private_a discontent_n as_o so_o of_o public_a discontent_n too_o if_o we_o receive_v so_o many_o public_a mercy_n yet_o if_o every_o thing_n go_v not_o in_o the_o public_a according_a as_o we_o desire_v if_o we_o be_v discontent_a at_o that_o it_o will_v exceed_o aggravate_v our_o sin_n god_n may_v say_v what_o shall_v i_o bestow_v such_o mercy_n upon_o a_o people_n and_o yet_o if_o they_o have_v not_o every_o thing_n they_o will_v have_v they_o will_v be_v discontent_a oh_o its_o exceed_a evil_a so_o in_o particular_a the_o mercy_n that_o concern_v thyself_o thy_o family_n if_o thou_o will_v consider_v thou_o have_v a_o great_a many_o more_o mercy_n than_o thou_o have_v affliction_n i_o dare_v bold_o aver_v it_o concern_v any_o one_o in_o this_o congregation_n suppose_v thy_o affliction_n be_v what_o they_o will_v there_o be_v never_o a_o one_o of_o you_o but_o that_o have_v more_o mercy_n than_o affliction_n object_n you_o will_v say_v i_o numb_a 8._o verse_n etc._n etc._n it_o be_v a_o speech_n of_o moses_n to_o korah_n and_o his_o company_n when_o they_o murmur_v and_o moses_n say_v unto_o korah_n hear_v i_o pray_v you_o you_o son_n of_o levi_n there_o be_v somewhat_o that_o you_o be_v son_n of_o levi_n seem_v it_o but_o a_o small_a thing_n unto_o you_o that_o the_o god_n of_o israel_n have_v separate_v you_o from_o the_o to_o come_v again_o to_o i_o let_v my_o heart_n be_v quiet_a under_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n three_o do_v thou_o find_v god_n depart_v from_o thou_o in_o thy_o affliction_n will_v thou_o therefore_o depart_v from_o god_n too_o be_v this_o thy_o help_n can_v thou_o help_v thyself_o that_o way_n because_o god_n be_v go_v will_v thou_o go_v too_o do_v i_o indeed_o feel_v god_n depart_v from_o i_o soften_v
faithfulness_n and_o thou_o may_v have_v as_o great_a a_o reward_n for_o thy_o faithfulness_n that_o be_v a_o poor_a servant_n in_o the_o kitchen_n all_o the_o day_n as_o another_o that_o sit_v upon_o the_o throne_n all_o day_n and_o as_o great_a a_o crown_n of_o glory_n thou_o may_v have_v at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n as_o a_o king_n that_o sit_v upon_o the_o throne_n that_o have_v rule_v for_o god_n upon_o his_o throne_n yea_o thy_o faithfulness_n may_v be_v reward_v by_o god_n with_o as_o great_a glory_n as_o a_o king_n that_o have_v sway_v his_o sceptre_n for_o god_n because_o i_o say_v the_o lord_n do_v not_o so_o much_o look_v at_o the_o work_n that_o be_v do_v as_o at_o the_o faithfulness_n of_o our_o heart_n in_o do_v it_o then_o why_o shall_v not_o every_o one_o of_o we_o go_v on_o comfortable_o and_o cheerful_o in_o our_o low_a condition_n for_o why_o may_v not_o i_o be_v faithful_a as_o well_o as_o another_o its_o true_a i_o can_v come_v to_o be_v as_o rich_a a_o man_n and_o as_o honourable_a as_o other_o but_o i_o may_v be_v as_o faithful_a as_o any_o other_o man_n that_o every_o one_o of_o you_o may_v conclude_v with_o yourselves_o what_o do_v let_v but_o that_o you_o that_o be_v the_o poor_a and_o mean_a may_v be_v as_o faithful_a as_o the_o great_a yea_o you_o may_v have_v as_o glorious_a a_o crown_n in_o heaven_n and_o therefore_o go_v on_o comfortable_o and_o cheerful_o in_o your_o way_n a_o ten_o plea_n there_o be_v another_o reason_v that_o some_o may_v have_v and_o that_o be_v this_o oh_o i_o can_v bear_v much_o affliction_n in_o some_o other_o way_n but_o this_o be_v very_o grievous_a to_o i_o the_o unsetledness_n of_o my_o condition_n though_o my_o condition_n be_v but_o low_o yet_o if_o it_o be_v in_o a_o settle_a way_n i_o can_v be_v content_a but_o it_o be_v so_o unconstant_a and_o so_o unsettle_a that_o i_o can_v never_o know_v what_o to_o trust_v to_o but_o be_o toss_v up_o and_o down_o in_o the_o world_n in_o a_o unsettle_a condition_n and_o this_o be_v hard_a to_o be_v content_a with_o now_o to_o that_o i_o answer_v first_o that_o the_o psalmist_n say_v that_o every_o man_n in_o his_o settle_a estate_n be_v vanity_n in_o psalm_n 36.5_o your_o book_n have_v it_o every_o man_n at_o his_o best_a estate_n be_v vanity_n the_o word_n be_v his_o settle_a estate_n you_o think_v if_o you_o be_v but_o settle_v oh_o then_o you_o can_v be_v content_a but_o the_o truth_n be_v man_n in_o his_o settle_a estate_n be_v vanity_n second_o i_o answer_v thus_o that_o perhaps_o god_n see_v it_o be_v better_a for_o enough_o that_o will_v serve_v i_o for_o two_o or_o three_o year_n but_o this_o day_n our_o daily_a bread_n to_o teach_v we_o we_o must_v live_v upon_o god_n in_o a_o dependent_a condition_n every_o day_n for_o daily_a bread_n here_o be_v the_o difference_n that_o be_v observable_a between_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n and_o egypt_n the_o land_n of_o canaan_n that_o depend_v upon_o god_n for_o the_o water_v of_o it_o with_o shower_n from_o heaven_n but_o egypt_n have_v a_o constant_a way_n of_o water_v the_o country_n that_o do_v not_o so_o much_o depend_v upon_o heaven_n for_o water_n but_o upon_o the_o river_n nilus_n which_o do_v at_o some_o certain_a time_n overflow_v the_o country_n and_o they_o know_v that_o the_o water_v of_o their_o country_n do_v depend_v upon_o that_o river_n and_o not_o upon_o heaven_n they_o grow_v more_o proud_a and_o therefore_o the_o scripture_n to_o express_v pharoah_n pride_n bring_v he_o in_o say_v the_o river_n be_v i_o he_o can_v order_v to_o be_v a_o better_a land_n for_o his_o people_n than_o egypt_n and_o this_o be_v give_v as_o one_o reason_n among_o other_o for_o it_o because_o the_o lord_n look_v upon_o this_o as_o more_o suitable_a to_o the_o state_n of_o his_o people_n that_o be_v to_o live_v by_o faith_n to_o be_v continual_o depend_v upon_o heaven_n upon_o himself_o and_o not_o to_o have_v a_o constant_a settle_a way_n in_o the_o creature_n for_o their_o outward_a dependence_n and_o we_o find_v it_o by_o experience_n that_o when_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a live_v in_o the_o great_a dependence_n upon_o god_n and_o have_v no_o settle_a coming-in_n from_o the_o creature_n they_o do_v exercise_v faith_n more_o and_o be_v in_o a_o better_a condition_n for_o their_o soul_n than_o before_o oh_o many_o time_n it_o fall_v out_o that_o the_o worse_a thy_o outward_a estate_n be_v the_o better_a thy_o soul_n be_v and_o the_o better_a thy_o outward_a estate_n be_v the_o worse_a thy_o soul_n be_v we_o read_v come_v to_o build_v a_o wall_n and_o can_v defend_v themselves_o and_o have_v not_o their_o dependence_n upon_o the_o king_n as_o before_o than_o they_o will_v deny_v pay_v toll_n tribute_n and_o custom_n so_o it_o be_v thus_o for_o all_o the_o world_n between_o god_n and_o man_n soul_n when_o a_o soul_n live_v in_o way_n of_o mere_a dependence_n upon_o god_n that_o sensible_o he_o see_v god_n have_v he_o at_o advantage_n every_o moment_n oh_o then_o such_o a_o soul_n will_v pay_v toll_n and_o custom_n that_o soul_n exercise_v faith_n and_o beg_v every_o day_n his_o daily_a bread_n but_o your_o heart_n be_v deject_v immoderate_o and_o you_o be_v in_o a_o discontent_a way_n because_o of_o such_o and_o such_o a_o cross_n certain_o your_o heart_n be_v immoderate_o set_v upon_o the_o
